Updated 2 Months Ago

Metal Slug (1996)Pontos positivos:
- Ambientação: Cenário de guerra caótico, inimigos para todo lado e ambientes bem criativos;
- Gráficos: São bonitos com um pouco de efeito parallax do fundo, expressões dos inimigos bem detalhadas e exageradas, além de efeitos de tiros e explosões na medida;
- Missões: Todas são bem divertidas e variadas, com muito tiro, porrada e bomba. As fases são bem bonitas, criativas e possuem um boss ao final de cada uma;
- Combate: É possível pular, atirar e jogar molotovs, simples mas para época ok. Um detalhe bem interessante é que em alguns míssei é possível surfar neles sem levar dano;
- Armas: São bem diversas as armas, tendo shotgun, metralhadora, lança-chamas, lança mísseis e outras.
Pontos negativos:
- Mira do tanque: A mira do tanque se move na direção conforme você anda, o que não é muito legal, pela época não tinham os analógicos como limitação, porém até poderia ter sido colocada nos botões de cima do controle, isso não nas versões de fliperama logicamente;

Gráficos: 7 - Ótimos gráficos;
Jogabilidade: 8 - Uma jogabilidade precisa e rápida;
História: 7,5 - Metal Slug possui um universo rico;
Desempenho: 5 - Falta optimização, muitas quedas de frame no modo multiplayer, o invite a friend não funciona toda jogatina tem que criar uma lobby péssimo port.
Nota Geral: 6.8.

I’ve been wanting to revisit the Metal Slug series for a while now and I chose to do so on the Nintendo Switch just because it’s the most convenient platform for me. Everything I’m into playing at the moment is already there and the portability factor is a big plus, so if something is available on it (and runs well enough) I might as well give it a try, right?As far as I know, these ACA NeoGeo ports by Hamster are all quite decently made. Funnily enough, they even went through the trouble of preserving some of the original lag that the old arcade versions of these games had. I was a bit skeptical of this at first since it just made me think they had done a sloppy job of porting the game, but reading about this strange little quirk online made me come around to this feature and realize how cool it actually is. A bit weird, but I can appreciate the length that they went just for the sake of preservation. There’s also a bunch of customization options in this port that I totally did not bother sifting through because all I really cared about was that good old nostalgic Metal Slug gameplay.
As it turns out, the very first game in this series is surprisingly tame. I don’t exactly remember which game is which, a fact I can attribute to only ever experiencing this series in either janky arcades or anthologies, but I’m sure that this will make replaying through all of them a lot more fun. However, not a whole lot about this first one stuck out to me. Yes, the muscle memory from the enemies and some of the bosses' attack patterns came right back, but that’s to be expected. The only two things I was kinda excited to see again were the Shotgun, one of my favorite weapons from this series, and that weird jacked-up bald dude that serves as a mini-boss in a lot of the snowy mountain stages. The rest was kind of just there.
The levels were fine and honestly quite easy. Yes, I did die quite a bit, but without the added stress of running out of coins and having to pay for more of them, I just allowed myself to play more sloppily. Even though Metal Slug games tend to be on the shorter side, this one is a little too short for my liking. I know that the lore in these games gets really crazy later down the line, so I’m excited to start seeing some aliens, zombies and whatever else they decide to throw my way.
Nonetheless, it’s a pretty solid game. I think it’s far more enjoyable when played with company, though. So if you want something to turn your brain off to with a friend, I highly suggest these!

Pixel art to die for, and die I did. A lot. Quick game, bare bones, controls almost too tight, worth getting good at and a great mindless blast to pop on when needed. Could use greater variety but a fun arcade game. Looking forward to seeing how the series builds on it.Updated 1 Year Ago

fun run and gun game but also kinda made me feel bad for the guys i was murdering en masse, is that just a me thing? Still, you can find either this game or one of its sequels in basically any neo geo cabinet thats still around, and for good reason. This game looks, sounds, and plays great! I think I enjoy metal slugs style of run and gun action more than even contra.Updated 2.5 Years Ago

slowdown was a bit excessive (might just be the version of MAME I was on) but dang the pixel art in this game holds up so well. Minimally frustrating to play as well, because of the slowdown helping & most projectiles being very visible against the more muted character & background art. Idk that I would replay it for 1CCs or anything but it was very fun & breezy to blow through on Co-op with infinite credits.Updated 3 Years Ago

Fun little time side scrolling shooter, with some great quality of life improvements since the original. The game isnt long enough to overstay its welcome, and remains entertaining for the entire game. It definitely has quater-munching design, but those are negated by the modern additions.Updated 3 Years Ago

The first Metal Slug was my introduction to the entire series and although it's far from the perfection of games like Metal Slug X and XX, It is still a wonderful run and gun with a high challenge level and some of the most memorable graphics in all of video games. Metal Slug was the game that made SNK and NEO GEO a household name and there is a good reason. The graphics have so much zest and personality to them that they have continued to use this graphics style for the rest of the series onward. Even though Player 1 and 2 can only play as Marco and Tarma respectively, their designs are classic and Tarma is still my favorite character in the entire series to play as especially in later games. The game introduced classic villains like the MG 42 carrying turret man and the evil General that appears in pretty much every Metal Slug game. The ending also leaves you with a fuzzy and warm feeling of hope that is rare for a game to do nowadays. As I said with the challenge, it's really hard and might be frustrating as a solo playthrough but if you get friends you'll have a blast. The gameplay is satisfying and the originality the game breathes is nice. Metal Slugs are cool to use and control, the guns are nice, the game has solid graphics, lots of personality and is lots of fun to play with another player.Metal Slug started what is now becoming one of my favorite series ever and is starting to be up there with Doom, Serious Sam, Half-Life, Yakuza, Devil May Cry and the Forza series to name a few. It sounds weird when I say this is one of my favorite series considering the games I mentioned are mostly action FPS games, but Metal Slug appeals to me so much due to it not only being a classic shooter game with some of the greatest graphics in gaming history, but it also started my love for Arcade games as an adult such as Shock Troopers, Violent Storm and even fighting games like Darkstalkers and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Without Metal Slug, I would have no interest in expanding my tastes. So I thank SNK for making this brilliant series. Everyone should play these games. If you have another player, play all of them, even the worst games in the series like 2 and 3! You'll understand why Metal Slug and SNK are so loved across the globe.

Metal Slug is arguably the most notable Neo Geo action game ever made. It's an excellent game to play through yourself, and even better when tackled with a friend through its co-op mode. So bite that bullet. Clean out the fridge, drop the cash, and blast some Rebels with your Slug.Updated 16 Years Ago
