Just wondering what your thoughts are? It is one feature I often look for in games. Although I like classic Party style, turn-based, dungeon crawling RPGs I don't know really of any where you can create and design your character. Solo one party Action/Adventure RPGs seem to have it more frequently since Oblivion and Skyrim, and Sports games seem to have it standard, with the exception of the unrealistic super hero style fighters, while the wrestling, boxing, UFC, MMA all seem to have it standard.

So far I think the best ones are in Tiger Woods '09, Skyrim, and Fight Night Round 3. I have not played any newer PGA tour games, or Fight Night games to compare them too.

I have seen what Dragon's Dogma can do and it looks very good, but have not played with it.

And the worst I would say go to anything I have played to date sports wise from 2K games.

Legend of Grimrock is a party of up to 4 and you create them (even pick what race each party member is), though it is real time and not turn based, it is entirely set in a dungeon.

Dragon Age Origins you can create your main character and pick his backstory, which changes how the game starts. For instance you are a human noble that has to escape an attack on your tower or you are an elf that has to avoid persecution or a mage... or a dwarf... ect. It is party based and you can pause at any time in combat. You can only create your main character though, the party members can not be altered outside of equipment or choosing their powers (which actually lets you customize a lot). Mass Effect is sci-fi but you can customize your character and choose which team members you want on your squad and you can pause combat at any time. X-com is also sci-fi and party based and turn-based, and you pick powers and cosmetics for the whole squad.

Older games like Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate, Planescape Torment, Fallout Tactics, Fallout 1-2 (not party-based, but you can recruit a party if you wish) allow you to create a main character and customize them deeply (Icewind Dale you create your entire party this way).

There are a few upcoming games that were successfully funded on kickstarter that fit this description: Wasteland 2, Shadowrun: Returns, Project Eternity (working title), and Torment: Tides of Numenera.
