Puzzles were decently challenging, but not impossible to figure out. Story was good. Tournament is co-op.

Fun and streamlined logic puzzles that take the experience of an escape room and make it pretty accessible through a video game. If real escape rooms frustrate you, this is bound to be much more approachable with how the game highlights objects you can interact with. Part of the difficulty of escape rooms is how the sheer amount of stuff in them is designed to overwhelm you into choice overload, but what Escape Academy does well is distill the entire experience so that most people can enjoy it.Of course, not every puzzle is designed well, but there were enough "a-ha!" moments that I felt like it was being fair enough to keep me motivated to continue. Something that could be improved is the hint system- I often was at the precipice of a breakthrough, and when I used a hint it didn't offer any valuable information. This part of escape rooms was bound to be difficult to translate into a video game, but more often than not I felt more frustrated by this feature if anything.
I also respect the writing for having fun with itself- it's a corny game with corny dialog and it knows that. Now, it's not good, but I enjoyed how it knew not to take itself too seriously.

I bought this game on accident, and it was an amazing find. I was to thirsty for another great escape room that allowed co-op, and even single as well with some story and ACTUAL good puzzles.Updated 2 Months Ago

This is a fun little escape room game with a narrative of trianing within a school of escapists. there are twists and turns through it but was kinda predictiable in placesArt - 3/5 - there was a strange blocky quality to everything that for some reason really reminds me on runescape. it does follow this kind of old school game vibe and is a little jaunty in places but still looks okay. there are some aspects of the character portraits that for me were a little unsettling but the designs are cool and well thought out
Gameplay - 4/5 - this is your standard escape the room wander round and collect clues. there was a variation in diffiiculty which was and allowed for different styles of play. it also pulled in all differnt types of puzzles without really much repeat as well. there is a multiplayer element to this as well that I did not try but certainly has me curious
Music - 3/5 - I wont talk too much on this as the music in the game was not nessicarily bad but also wasnt that memorable. the sound scape was okay though the completion sound were a little on the loud side with the standar settings
Story - 3/5 - The story follows the main character gainin entry into a prestegious escape school and working through classes as a mystery unfolds. There wasnt that much story focus the biggest part was the puzzles so the story was quite basic and has some twists in it but they were ever so slightly predictable. its quite a short game so the story in it works and is susinct enough to work as a whole
Enjoyment - 3/5 - now I feel the 3 is harsh because this is a fairly decent game and is a good one if you like your escape rooms and odd puzzle games. I just felt that it didnt really try to do anything fully out the box or new so it just felt like a decent game and that was it.

fun escape room type puzzles, the story is interesting enough even if it doesn't really mean anything. There are 2 paid-DLCs out right now and a free-DLC. The versus mode, called "tournament of puzzles," is very good, and fun to do. I've only done it against a friend, but I imagine the experience is not much different with an online opponent, though maybe without the banter. Knowing the puzzle rules is a pretty big advantage, so if you care about having an advantage, or at least not having a disadvantage, you should play it solo or have a practice round or something.Updated 3.5 Months Ago

Good fun! But I feel that the real entertainment from this game comes from having a friend playing alongside you. The escape rooms here are fantastically varied and the puzzle design is strong throughout, there is a real sense of accomplishment in solving them. They can get pretty tricky, so the hint system is welcome. One or two of the puzzles were a bit perplexing in that it was difficult to understand exactly how they worked, but it's a balancing act because a more thorough explanation would probably have made them too simple. We figured things out as we went.Outside of the puzzles there isn't much here. The story moments feel like something of an afterthought, and the characters don't exactly jump off the screen. But the game is focused on its main feature which is the escape rooms, and they work well. Playing solo probably isn't as fun, but be aware that having a co-op buddy will likely result in some arguments!

Escape Academy presents a simple framing plot as an excuse to give you a nice selection of smoothly-operating escape room style puzzles. The puzzles themselves are not too complex and are clearly marked so you rarely need to second-guess your solution. These are not devilish puzzles you have to chew on, for experienced escape-room-goers they exist to amuse and provide some mental exercise. I enjoyed trying to speedrun them where possible.Updated 4.5 Months Ago

You get what was promised. Besides some hiccups with the puzzles here and there, even needing to look up a guide twice, this was an absolute blast. I need more escape room games now.Played the whole game in split screen co-op, and we ran out of time at least three times so I hope they do modify the timer for single and co-op games, because I'd say two would solve faster than a single person right?
Anyways, as much as the gameplay shines the story is certainly lacking, though serviceable.
Played through Xbox Game Pass.

The puzzles were pretty intuitive, but also petty at times. And the playtime is very short with little or no replay value. It was a fun run on Game Pass, but it'd be not a good value as a standalone version.

Escape rooms are a unique type of puzzle, solving stray visual clues sequentially under the pressure of the clock. Finding ways to make these rooms interesting can be a challenge amidst the plethora of lazy attempts and under-budget production design, but developer Coin Crew has a history of developing escape rooms, so it only made sense to make a video game centered around the 21st century phenomenon. Escape Academy is a university-themed escape room game, where you are onboarded as a student into a secret school that teaches the art of escapism. You'll be put in several intense situations, and be tasked with getting out of them as fast as you can. The premise and story are silly, but carried enough weight to keep myself and my partner playing along. The dialogue is nothing special, but I was happy to see an effort rather than a string of loosely themed puzzles.
The rooms themselves are the star here, and I really appreciated the variety not only in the puzzles, but in objectives. You don't just escape rooms, you also break into them, defuse bombs, and race to the end of a mind-focused obstacle course. It's inventive and it funnels into the ways the developers have said they wanted to make escape rooms they couldn't make in real life. The solutions to the puzzles within these rooms are usually very fair, and the game provides an excellent set of tools to make nothing too obtuse, from being able to pin certain items in your inventory, to a hint system that vaguely points you in the direction of the answer. Over the dozen or so rooms for the main game, my partner and I really only got stuck on one solve path right at the end of the game. Relatively, the game is on the easier side as long as you pay attention to the items you have and check out each area thoroughly.
Escape Academy is presented in first person as you solve, but characters are portrayed in cutscenes in 2D art. The art style in general is nice, but nothing too unique, and the character designs looked great in their sprites but got a little strange and contorted when converting to 3D in the rooms themselves. The music is also pretty one-note, and only exists to set the mood and let you think. While playing on a base PS4 with two players, the game ran well most of the time, but did frequently hit below 30fps with some slowdown. It wasn't a huge issue, and wasn't very noticeable, but if you want a smoother experience, you may want to try a better platform for multiplayer. Single player, as far as I played solo, had no issues.
Escape Academy is basically made for puzzle junkies like me who are eager to devour any new challenges some brilliant minds have to offer. It's not the hardest set of hurdles, but it's a great time, especially if you play it with a friend (both locally or online!). There is DLC coming over the next year to essentially double the size of the game, so I can't wait to see the even more ways to solve very soon.

Short and breezy handful of escape rooms. A Saturday afternoon well spent. Puzzles are well designed and fair.Caters to a younger crowd with puzzle difficulty to match. Art style is bright and colorful and inviting, but underdeveloped. Whenever a character moves their back is conveniently turned away so the artists don't have to do facial animations.
Most underwhelming aspect is the story. Shortly after starting the game you join the "Escape Academy" where you do puzzles that get marginally harder until you graduate. Forgettable one dimensional characters. A dopey PG mystery straight out of a bad Scooby Doo episode. This ain't Crime & Punishment folks.

A fun dark horse of an experience. The escape rooms themselves plus the additional not-too-heavy story framing is refreshing & the puzzles were a ton of fun to work through, especially alongside a co-op partner.
