Excelent game! It excels in all the ways, the visuals are stunning, never saw something so beautiful in a game. The gameplay is the old Zelda way, dungeons and upgrading your items. It's a great game, easy in so many ways, but rewarding. Became one of my favorites of all time

Charming atmosphere. Very well done remake.

Good
- Charming visuals, characters and dialogue
- Game progression, gameplay, and level design are all true to the original, with custom dungeon addition. And unfortunately the shop keeper doesn't kill you for stealing.
- Music is of course good as with any Zelda
- Dungeon design is top notch. Makes you think hard sometimes.
- Classic Zelda item progression. Fun to see where to use new items for new pathways.
- The ending is bitter sweet.

Bad
- Some of the trade quests can be very ambiguous as to the whereabouts of the person you need to trade with
- It's short, for a Zelda game. Mainly due to the world map being quite compact.

This game wowed me in the beginning with its artstyle (which I hated in the trailers) and music, however this magic didn't last for too long. Still, the overall experience was quite fun with a unique story IDEA and interesting dungeons. It was especially fun to play it after the original Zelda and seeing all the same enemies and gameplay mechanics. Still, I don't think that there are a lot of special moments or interesting gameplay ideas to remember after the completion. Also, dungeon maker was a poor idea: why would I want to go through the same levels in a new order multiple time?

E esperar pelo lançamento do novo jogo 2D na franquia no Switch, Echoes of the Wisdom. Ansioso!

Hypnagogia is the transitional state from being awake to asleep. It's when our minds are drifting between consciousness and unconsciousness, hallucinating between the logical world and the dream world. And that's exactly how it felt playing Link's Awakening sometimes - Moments of enjoyment while almost falling asleep.

With a very distinct and unique tone that its predecessors in the last decade, Link's Awakening is as experimental today as it was when originally released. While the structure is very familiar to any 2D LoZ game it feels more expansive than its peers. It's expansiveness sometimes lies within intricate interconnecting world design and its unnecessary cryptic padding.

Some parts of the map and dungeon progression felt as dream logic - The exact same cryptic logic you would find in a 90s point and click adventure LucasArt game. Some times there were no indications of how somebody could progress within a dungeon, in one particular case (Eagle Rock) being unnecessarily punishing by forcing major backtracks. This dungeon and other segments in the game drained my patience to the point I was losing interest returning to the game.

I love the style and love the presentation of Link's Awakening as much as I love how experimental it tries to be with some puzzles. However I think some game design philosophies are best left in the past.

Artistically incredible and it surely is a classic remade...
The problem is that they should've remade the gameplay too, it's outdated and really unintuitive and uselessly cryptic
It's made for people that are 50 years old and have nostalgia, otherwise if you have never played it and aren't familiar in any way to how to progress, you'll get stuck and look for something for 3 hours before giving up and putting this on the shelf

I've been gradually making my way through the Legend of Zelda series, and I really enjoyed this one. The setting is quite different to other Zelda games and I felt there was a greater sense of mechanical progression between dungeons than in other Zelda games, where dungeons typically revolve around finding and using a single dungeon items (I mean, these dungeons still do that, but they felt less reliant on the dungeon item to me).

Also - on a technical note I think it's pretty impressive that they managed to get what was basically a full Zelda game on the Gameboy Colour back in the day.

While I really love this game thematically and gameplay wise, there are some aspects that I didn't enjoy that much. It mainly has to do with the "side" quests, the trading sequence, while I do appreciate and understand that those parts of the game encourage you to explore and talk and really get to know the island, I just wasn't feeling it. It felt a little bit tedious to me. I love what the game does in terms of atmosphere, but it wasn't enough for me to completely enjoy this game.
Again, in the gameplay front this game is really fun, the dungeons and puzzles are really entertaining, as most Zelda games do.

Anyway, cool game, not cool enough for me.

The last time I played this game was in 2019, before my frontal lobe developed. Back then, it was too difficult for me because I was too impatient with things and not willing to explore or experiment with the game like it wants you too. As a result, my first experience with Link's Awakening was just following a walkthrough, which ultimately isn't that fun.

Playing this again five years later was so different because I was engaging with the game at all times. I let my curiosity lead me around Koholint, trying to leave no stone unturned. And the game rewards you for doing that- I found it very rewarding to treat this game like a Metroidvania, coming back to areas when I realized the equipment I was collecting could be used in other parts of the island. Link's Awakening, compared to something like A Link to the Past, seems more invested in making sure you have the tools to reach the finish line. From the map stickers to the ability to reread suggestions from the Wind Fish to Ulrira's phone calls, getting lost was never frustrating because I had several ways to find my way. And with powerful combat and an overworld soundtrack that pushes you onward, the world is just a joy to explore.

Now, it's not perfect, sadly. For its cute toybox art style, there were some dips in framerate, like in the swamps, which try to pull off gaseous particle effects, shimmering water, and numerous enemies on the screen. I also felt like Link was constantly falling off cliffs and down holes, like he was slipping too far back as soon as an enemy touched him. But while these are minor gripes, some questlines are just not clear. I skipped getting the ocarina on accident, for example, and none of the hints led me to the proper place to fix this. I ended up looking at a walkthrough only twice, as here I realized I skipped an entire dungeon. Furthermore, arguably the most consequential questline in the game, finding the magnifying glass, is not intuitive to solve, and requires such a long sequence of events that are difficult to track and require you to have spoken to nearly everyone in the game. While it's quick by the time you have all your equipment, it felt like I was being punished for not putting two and two together when I didn't know I had to. Overall, this experience was a joy, but its these moments in classic Legend of Zelda games that I don't miss.

i like that game.

i already played the game boy colour remake links awekining DX as a kid and is the first zelda game that i finished.
the new artstyle looks first a little strange and childish but it grows at me at the time and i would wish that they use it too if they reamke minish cap, the chibi style just have his style.

in the DX version they had a camara mechanic where a photograph came and took photos while the adventure but they took it away for some reason whats sad because i thought it would be nice to see in the anime artstyle that they used for the ending and the intro of the game that they techincally never used.
they replaced the place where you could see the photos with a dangeon maker, what is better but it doesnt feel completed.
i do understand why because a dangeon maker game would be a full game wroth so it just feeled like a mini version of it but i would like it better if you could costumize the rooms a little more and not only use already exits rooms from the dangeons.
maybe someday they will do a full dangeon maker game or include it in a minish cap remake.
the dangeon of links aweking are all a little smaller than other zelda games but éxactly that gives they charm.
but the 7th dangeon is exactly that annoyning like i remebered to be, i think i beaten it as a child even faster as a adult....

the game is a little too overpriced too, i had it in my eyes for years but its just not 60$ wroth, even if its a game that i liked as a kid and have a lot of nostalgic for that its still really short for 60$
i only bhought it for a 3 for 2 sale in a shop.
in my opinon the game is wroth at the highest for 40$
but nintendo game prices are always shitty if the game are shorter.

i dont think nintendo will ever do a game like links awekening again becasue it have so many reference of other games mostly mario ones that its almost feels like a fan game, they even removed the more pervertly jokes of the game what was excepted and nintendo will proably do not many 2D zeldas too whats is a shame because 2D zeldas just feels diffrent than the 3D ones but well assuming form the director of the franchise we need more to worry if we ever even getting a 3D zelda again.

Pros

- There were some puzzles and dungeon progression moments that were very creative, like being able to get on top of the switch driven blocks if you fall from them from the top, or falling from a top floor to a convenient area on the floor below. They really showcased how they made the most of their limitations in dungeon size, and compensated with unique mechanics and variety.
- Even though exploration is mostly linear, traversal was fast given the actually small size of the whole map, making reaching new areas a quick thing. Not to mention that some traversal pre requirements, such as traveling with a chain chomp or a chicken as a new method of traversal and secret discovery. These are things you really don’t ever see on the later zelda entries, which heavily rely on interactions with your items. The chain chomp especially was neat because it not only aided you on traversal, but also with fighting for you, or even sniffing out secrets. I can see this type of companion restricted discoveries being a drag if they were the only way to unlock or find things, but since that wasn’t the case, it was quite pleasant as a buff of sorts.
- Everything from start to finish felt quite well paced so as to not make it feel like a drag, or too repetitive. Exploration was varied, and dungeon progression was fast and without much backtrack heavy segments.
- The game was pretty, in a timeless artstyle on top of it. Probably of the best treatments a remake for a super small in pixel art entry. The addition of the modern style of things such as goombas, bloopers and cheep cheeps, only adding to the overall charm of this big toy box.
- It offered a lot of options to be able to both complete the game, and fully 100% it that didn’t require an online guide. These being with things such as the shell radar, the telephone booth, and the somewhat natural feeling dialogues of some characters that told you clues for a next step.

Neutral

- Had I played this game with the technological limitations of the original’s era (no internet), I feel I would’ve gotten stumped in a couple instances. And knowing my previous experience with that situation with minish cap, I would’ve not known how to progress for a while. This last bit isn’t necessarily a demerit since I wouldn’t have had any other game to play so, I would’ve gone through every nook and cranny eventually. On this same note, in some cases by luck, or in others by zelda cultivated intuition, I was able to go through most of the not so intuitive bits quite easily (without using the phone thing that is).
- The game mode where hearts don’t fall is a bit more tedious than it is fun or truly challenging, lots of back and forth to restock on fairies and healing. Though frankly not as bad as it could’ve been.
- The ending is… well it’s there, not like I go to a zelda game for a great narrative, but it was weird how they went with something so cliché even for the era.

Cons

- Boss battles are honestly very lackluster. In part I understand that could’ve been due to the limitations of the original’s hardware, but they didn’t go beyond “now guess which weapon can deal damage to the enemy in this case” at most encounters. The one exception that fell into “actually quite dreadful” being this one slug thing you can only circle around to hit from behind, but had to do so while on a lava pit with gaps, quite unfun that one.
- This could also fall as a neutral under different wording, but I don’t think keeping a death counter on the save file is that nice, since it incentivizes to just reload for bragging rights over a truly “100%” save file.

There's absolutely no interest in adding imperfection to a somewhat perfect game, but to be fairly honest, Link's Awakening is a very good remake, which manages quite well to transcribe the magic of the original game. Of course it's not as good, of course it's easier, of course there's no surprise, of course I'm old and my opinion is uninteresting.

Gameplay 3/3 the removal of having to go into the menu constantly is a great improvement it does make the game a bit easier its also a bit easier due to the amount of extra hearts and the new bottles. But ultimately these additions are really great offering more to puzzles and minigames to experience. It makes this an outstanding version, the gbc version is still available if wanting to see how the bosses might be a bit harder but this is mostly the definitive version.
Story 3/3 really great
Visuals 2/2 really great new art style
Audio 2/2 outstanding music great sound effects

Highly recommend 100% completion for the gameplay. Can skip chamber dungeons especially on replay.

Incredible remake. Really fun game. The dungeon solving is awesome. So much polish on this remake. It's so good, I can't imagine going back to the original after playing this. The music is great too! My only complaints are minor frame rate drops and the dungeon building for Dampé. That dungeon building is so tedious and feels so gimmicky. If it was optional, fine. But it's not! You have to build at least one, and do even more if you want to 100% it. Those are the only things that hurt this otherwise perfect game.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX but better. Really liked how they remake the soundtrack (you just have to listen to Level 6 - Face Shrine, it fits so well with the context of Link getting hints that the island is just a dream and waking up the Wind Fish will make everyting vanish from bosses and the Wind Fish mural) and the animations we get to see during the beginning and the end of the game. Personally, this game needed a remake. I cannot stress enough how important was the fact that you could use two items with X and Y instead of going to the menu all the time. I also appreciate that the music when getting a corn is lower than in the original. Tho, such a pity the Switch lags quite a bit (even in the map, I am not joking).

As for the extra content, it is nice to see more seashells and health pieces, there's also statues to get from the crane game. Which btw, it was a nightmare to get some items from those moving platforms with the crane.

Now what it is supposed to be the especial added content of the remake is the Chamber Dungeons, and it is disappointing for me that when creating a dungeon, you must use recycled rooms from the main game dungeons. I touched it like twice and never used it again.

I feel so empty rn after ending this masterpiece, what a deep story for a Zelda game, it really stands out. Watching all the island with the characters disappear broke my heart, even after playing this game 1 year after the original. For those that come from BOTW or TOTK, I highly recommend you playing this classic, it is one of those games that you want to forget only to experience it like if it was the first time. Overall, one of the best Zelda games ever, 10/10.

As a one-to-one perfect remake of one of my favorite Zelda games it serves very well. Not much outside of graphics and redone score has changed at all from the gameboy color version. On the 3ds this virtual console release solidified my love and respect for older RPGs and 2d zelda, so the nostalgia is very strong. I would recommend playing this instead or before DX, as the extra buttons save a lot of menu time and its more accessible.

I never played the original back in the day, so I was glad to be able to experience it through the remake. Compared to the Zelda games that have come out in recent years, this doesn't have as much depth as those games, but it is still a great game on its own. It has a great soundtrack, with Ballad of the Wind Fish now being one of my favorite Zelda songs, and the story is a very unique one. The dungeon building addition was a really good idea, but the execution was a bit lacking, which made me a bit disappointed in that part overall. This is probably in my top three favorite 2D Zelda games, and any Zelda fan should definitely add it to their library.

A very faithful remake of the classic Game Boy game, sometimes to a fault. It was always my favorite game on that system, and it was cool to see it get this HD remake treatment. The environments look good and the gameplay is classic Zelda. That said, some of the combat mechanics frustrated me, particularly in some of the boss fights. It can be very frustrating when no action you take seems to damage a boss. Also, I was unimpressed by the framerate stutter that happens often in the overworld. Really Nintendo, you couldn't make this remake of a Game Boy game a solid 60 FPS?? Criticisms aside, it's worth playing, especially if you're a fan of the series.

Still remains the grandaddy of the "2D Zelda Like". Perfect gameplay, exploration, secrets, progression... All while oozing charm and coziness. Island feels nicely self contained - 10/10 setting. The only thing keeping it from 100% is simply the design limitations of it being a gameboy game... by modern standards some of the stuff is simple (but still justifies itself anyway.)

Overall pretty enjoyable. Takes a few leaps in logic, akin to knowing where the Hookshot is in Ocarina of Time, to figure out some things. ie. at one point you can long jump over a gap, but the game won't let you because "you have Hookshot now, so we won't let you do that physical ability here in this specific instance" - it's small, but annoying. You also start off physically very weak, and I didn't realize that meant that I could still move one certain kind of block anyway. The logic is somewhat frustrating, and the final boss's weaknesses are very specific and limited based on how many weapons you have at that point.

A very good game marred by its peculiar logic.

Link’s Awakening is a remake of a Gameboy game released more than thirty years ago. I never played the original. Being a remake of a Gameboy game, I assumed it was going to be a short and simple game. I still have my original Gameboy and I don’t recall any of the games I owned being especially complex. I did play one of the oracle of Season games on the Gameboy Color, which was very good, but I somehow suspected Link’s Awakening to not be on that level.

It turns out that Gameboy games can be complex and large games indeed. Without being huge, the map is well designed. The way you move through it is never straightforward, which creates an increased feeling of size. The abilities you acquire are first rate and were surprising in how they changed the game. The addition of the jump was a marvel. It surely needs to be part of all Zelda games.

The story was also oddly interesting. There was something about it being so self contained that somehow created an atmosphere of unity. It’s as though Link, the other characters, the enemies, and wildlife, were all in the same boat rather than being at odds against each other. That was all accomplished with the usual paucity of story beats.

I didn’t care much for the character design. Despite this, the graphics are vibrant and complement the game well. There were odd performance dips in places without marring the experience. The music was good enough without being outstanding.

The only issue I have with the game is the logic it employs. Progress requires paying attention to random comments from characters and having an encyclopedic knowledge of the map. When the original was released, there weren’t that many games around. If you owned Link’s Awakening for the original Gameboy in the 90s, you would need the game to keep you entertained for a while. As such, roaming around the map to haphazardly try and find the right thing that will allow you to possess was a more acceptable undertaking. In the modern age, we recognise that entertainment time could easily be divided amongst a myriad of other options. Maybe that has caused me to be less tolerant of frustrating situations. Either way, Link’s Awakening feels very old school in its approach. I needed to consult a guide multiple times in my play-through and that had a negative impact on my experience. I don’t mind consulting a guide every now and again for a game. With Link’s Awakening, it felt like it was a necessity rather than something to consult to find hidden secrets. I’m sure many people, even most people, are more attuned to the game’s logic than I was. Still, I found myself being continually frustrated when consulting a guide to learn something I wouldn’t have guessed in a million years.

I liked the game and for those who enjoy exploration or are happy to consult guides, it is easily recommended.
