It was a decent DLC I suppose. Although I thought we were going to fight Nemesis and not some star gazing self proclaimed genius by the name of Londra, whose only interesting trait is being a diva.I appreciated that this DLC was more succinct in it's story writing without too much additional fluff. There's 3 side quests in the DLC, which are decent, the best one being "A friend in the dark". The waterwing is a cool extra mechanic, although can't see a use for it outside the main mission. The whole DLC is mainly traversed by your Sunwing mount, so the area feels a bit small.
Romancing Seyka was not of any interest to me and I was a bit surprised that Aloy had such feelings for Seyka at the end of the DLC, although I still went for the kiss, because I think that's the canon option. Personally I just thought they were good friends throwing jabs at each other. Didn't bother me too much. Although I remember that Sun King Avad is waiting for us at home, so being promiscuous is a bit questionable here.
The Horus fight was cool, although a bit annoying trying to target his cooling system, since it's high up and he constantly moves. But it felt more epic than any other fight in Forbidden west since it's a bigger set piece. Was decent overall.
Minor annoyance is that some controls share the same keybinds. Like when jumping out of your flying mount, the space key is used for both pullcasting back to your flying mount and deploying your glider. Or if your flying mount is somewhere close by, the R key is used for both mounting your sunwing and reloading some weapons.
Anyways, the DLC was decent, so if you enjoy the main game, you'll most likely enjoy this as well.

Story was kind of meh. Built off of the main game and doesnt resolve anything new. Starts a short plot line that feels pretty inconsequential and finishes it quickly.Updated 1 Month Ago

Word to the wise, if you haven't played Horizon in a while and try to dive right into this DLC, you're gonna have a rude awakening. They don't provide any refreshers for anything, so it's up to you to gain back all the muscle memory or get prepared to get REKT!That being said, it's more of that great Horizon combat accompanied by absolutely amazing visuals. These seriously are some of the best graphics your PS5 can churn out.
The story isn't anything special, but it's all worth it for the final encounter. It is by far the most epic thing in any Horizon game and hopefully a taste of what's to come for the inevitable third chapter.

Nice but easily skippable DLC. I expected a lot more from the PS5-only version. The most obvious comparison is Phantom Liberty for Cyberpunk 2077, which feels like a really new-gen addition to the game.
However, this one is a fine but rather boring addon.

Good dlc but a bit weak. Story was weaker than the main game and the new character was alright. Best part of the dlc was seeing the improvements for the dlc + the final mega boss fight. That was amazing and it makes sense why it was ps5 only. I want to see more games with boss fights that take up the entire screen.Updated 6 Months Ago

Burning shore is a pretty damn good DLC for Forbidden west. It story is short and concise and not filled with filler and allows Alloys growth to stick from the end of the previous game. It has a more involved antagonist with an excellent and unique final boss fight but it lacks a significant amount of new machines which I consider the biggest draw for the franchiseUpdated 8 Months Ago

A solid expansion on the already great gameplay of the main game. Stakes were high, locations were interesting, and the new weapons helped to bring a sense of power to overwhelming encounters.Updated 8 Months Ago

Looks great and it's pretty fun to play but for some reason I feel that it lacks depth and there's just too much stuff to pick up, too many variations of weapons and ways to use them. Would have been a better game if it felt more focused. But again, it looks and sounds great.Updated 8 Months Ago

It's an excellent expansion to the main game. It's an engaging story, with some decent character progression for Aloy. The world exploration felt a bit sparse for the size of the map. Not that they needed to fill it with activities--the side quests and errands felt just right--but for the beautiful vistas and awe-inspiring robots, there was a lack of stumbling upon anything new or wondrous. The game keeps you focused on pushing forward the story or quest/errand, leaving minimal focus on just exploring the open world. The new weapons and abilities are fun to use and would have been welcome early on in the main game. The gameplay itself can be frustrating at times, with certain parts being difficult to ascertain what the game wants you to do in stressful moments, or being obvious but making the next step (especially if parkour is involved) frustratingly easy to fail. It really is quite good, and taken as a whole with the main game makes an excellent overall experience, but it is also quite easy to point out its flaws.Updated 9.5 Months Ago

A really solid continuation in Aloy's quest to preserve the Earth and fight some new, more badass machines. Sam Witwer delivers a great performance as this charismatic baddie and the final boss fight felt so much better than the final fight in the base game. The game still struggles with providing fun and interesting things to do while you're taking a break from the main story, but I suppose the game's real appeal is in the fighting. It doesn't feel quite as deep as Monster Hunter's combat, but it feels as exhilarating.Updated 10 Months Ago

Just more of the same. Same environments we've seen before, same quest design (climb up ruins, run down bunkers, follow tracks) and lazy writing. Where Frozen Wilds added a snow region to the predecessor, Burning Shores really had nothing new to offer. It looks wonderful and at least the final fight was spectacular though.Updated 10 Months Ago

Updated 1 Year Ago

Decent DLC overall, it's more Horizon Forbidden West, and I do think the game is decent but stuff that annoyed me about the base game and the Horizon franchise in general stilll annoys me like the open world, climbing and RPG systems. I wasn't expecting it to reinvent the wheel and I got just that. People who liked the base game probably already bought and played this DLC. I did like the spectacle of the HORUS boss even though the awkward and finicky climbing mechanics ruined it somwhat when it briefly went all Shadow of the Collossus, however it didn't last overly long which is good.
With all that said, I am not sure if this is exclusive to the DLC or just the Horizon franchise in general but I felt attacks were kind of hard to reliably avoid with machine enemies' attacks, I was getting pummled left and right and it never felt like my timing that I did a good job at moving out of the way. A machine would attack, I dodge, get hit, machine would attack, dodge, get hit. This could be due to dodging not having inviniciblity frames and partner that with so many of the machines having area of effect stomp moves, leap attacks and fast moving projecticles and the game can get frustrating. This could also be tied to the fact that I spent so much time zooming in and in slo mo that I screw up the timing to effectively dodge, I lowered the difficulty to story mode, and it's weird is this an issue exclusive to this DLC because I was at least able to beat Forbidden West on easy. This could all be a skill issue and me not playing the base game for so long, it's hard to tell.
Story is decent enough and does an okay job at segwaying into the 3rd Horizon game, the villain Londra was okay and it does do a good job at making me dislike him to see his defeated. I am going to miss Lance Reddick as Sylens since he was my favorite character in Horizon.
Overall, worth checking out, but only if you liked the base game at all.

Fantastic expansion to a already great game.I love Horizon series.
Combat is fun and engaging, world is beautiful and now with the new facial animations, characters feel more alive than ever.
New cloud tech for this expansion was really awesome to see.
Some very cool new additions on mechanics that made the gameplay and exploration even better.
Missions were solid and fun to follow.
Great expansion overall.

A swan song for Forbidden West, cementing it as one of the most technologically & artistically impressive titles of this generation. Narratively builds on Forbidden West's finale, giving a glimpse of what is to come in Horizon 3, while progressing Aloy's character along the natural trajectory set up by the main title. Essentially gives HFW a new ending that works much better as a resting point for the long wait period until the next and final chapter in Aloy's story.Tip: Take the time to explore the map on the ground. There is a lot more weight put towards free exploration in this DLC and the rewards , both in terms of snippets of lore, powerful items, and landmarks & scenery are aplenty.

really, really enjoyed this. an incredible improvement over forbidden west. some fun puzzles (including ones you had to read things for! they weren't complicated but it was still a little interesting!), some fun encounters, fun use of the environment, the additional enemies were fun, the main villain was something a little different from the rest of the series so far, the new area looked good, and i really liked aloy and the story of this one! one important thing that i caught - the collectibles found around the world were NOT map markers you just made your way to. they actually involved just looking around the world and finding interesting spots. i think that going forward, if that's the way they go for this series (along with all of the other improvements, like the writing and characterization), it'll be a drastic improvement. it's hard to say if it's just the length of this that helps it pack a better punch, but i still think that it could be a good blueprint for the series future!!Updated 1 Year Ago

✅ The graphics are absolutely stunning, and the game's performance is very solid. The Burning Shores is a technological masterpiece.✅ Now that she's paired with the moderately interesting Seyka, Aloy doesn't talk to herself nearly as much.
🟡 Walter Londra makes for a better villain than anyone in the base game, but the story itself is both relatively unremarkable and quite short. Side quests are decent but nothing spectacular.
🟡 The Burning Shores are a relatively big area that is filled with a whole lot of nothing. Also, for something titled "Burning Shores," liquid hot magma plays a very, very small role in the game.
📛 The quality of the writing is generally not great. There's supposed to be a relationship blossoming between Aloy and Seyka, but Aloy's wooden personality makes this sudden change a bit unbelievable. A lot of the other characters fare somewhat better, but as a whole, the characters are nothing more than pawns for advancing the plot.
📛 Aloy is still providing unwanted solutions to puzzles way too quickly.

Game is lovely as ever, the fighting mechanics are still fun, the story is decent enough, corny dialogue aside, but man there are some bugs in this DLC, and overall it's nowhere near as strong as Frozen Wilds was. The best part of this DLC was the side quest involving someone from the previous DLC, and the final boss fight is just not satisfying. There's just not enough to do. There aren't even new Strike opponents!Updated 1 Year Ago

Burning Shores is a great bridge between Forbidden West and a third entry that is still to come. Offering true next gen visuals and a side of Aloy that the franchise has not fully dove into yet. It's a must play for fans of the Horizon franchise. Rating: 8/10 "Superb"
Pros:
- Next Gen Visuals / Truly The Best Visuals I Have Seen In A Video Game
- Lock Solid Performance
- Possibly The Best Boss Fight Sequence Of The Franchise
- New Machines
- Relationship Building
- Builds Upon Forbidden West Story
- Seyka Is A Wonderful Addition To The Franchise
Cons:
- New Weapon Was A Bit Underwhelming
- Ran Into Some Bugs And Glitches
- Nothing In The Story That Will Wow You
- New Area Lacked A Lot Of Points Of Interest, Basically Just A Lot Of Machine Spawns
- The Side Quests Are Fine, Does Not Reach The Heights Of The Base Game

This is a great expansion to this excellent game! It has a good story with a great new character. Having the flying mount is great to get around. The combat is still strong & there are challenging machines. The last boss battle is really satisfying. I ended up kissing Seyka but then had to say goodbye. I really wished Aloy would stay there with the tribe or take Seyka with her on her future journey. There is an epilogue that will lead to Horizon 3. Unfortunately Sylens won’t be there as Lance Reddick just died recently. Overall, I highly recommend this expansion. I’d give it a 10/10!Updated 1 Year Ago

Honestly a pretty average dlc. Its not bad exactly, it just leaves me wanting more. The gameplay is just as good as always. The story here is fine. Honestly the main focus is setting up the relationship between aloy and a new character seyka, but since the DLC is so short it doesn't really seem realistic (although I have come to like guys in a shorter amount of time just for giving me attention lol.) Anyways, the main plot here is pretty basic, just stopping another zenith. He does have a pretty cool plan, but I kinda just wish for more. The ending does set up horizon 3 thankfully, although I'm now worried how they'll do it without lance reddick. Not a must play exactly, but still pretty decent, especially if you liked the main game.Updated 1 Year Ago
