A pretty unique game.Good
- controls are really unique and challenging on the DS
- combat is pretty cool. Fast pace and has a lot of variety of techniques.
- music is cool
- comic book style cutscene are cool
- the story is pretty decent. The protagonist is very relatable, at least for me.
Bad
- Switch motion controls are a bit weird. Can't always do the moves you want, and the constant cursor re-adjustment ruins the experience a bit.
- clothing status menu in shop could've added the option to compare current equipment so I didn't have to switch back and forth to check.

I am very interested in the "noise" concept; it seems to have some similarities with our social problems.Thoughts AFTER finishing THE GAME.
The truth is, I enjoyed the game a lot, even if I have been playing on Switch TV. If my hands hurt, it's because the switch controller is awful, not just the controls of the port.
I can't say The World Ends with You will become one of the best games I have played in 2024, but it is certainly one of the best RPGs on NDS. I feel a bit guilty about not having discovered it during the NDS period. I think I was too young and too affected by Pokemon games. In addition, I think it wasn't released in Spain.
I think The World Ends with You is a look at the future of indie games in many aspects (narrative and exploring new ways of jugability). The game tries to implement new ways to understand RPGs, and it does certainly well!!!.
Even if we talk about its narrative, it is quite deep. It's a missed opportunity to not make the game more dynamic by creating new scenarios for each part of the game. It is quite claustrophobic to walk through the same scenarios repeatedly. I don't understand the purpose of using the music in that chaotic way. It's also bad management for an incredible OST.
It has lots of end-game content that improves the depth of the narrative and makes farming more interesting if you are in the mood to do it.
--------------------------

+Unique and fun way to play the game+Characters go through definite positive character growth
+Large area of enemies and excellent boss design
-Poorly teaches you how to play the game
-Lack of information given in combat
-Play control would be better separate from the touch screen
Review:
The World Ends with you is an excellent and unique RPG which gives and interesting take on the JRPG style game with it’s full touch screen controls and surrounds itself with some great character development and excellent array of enemies and bosses to fight. It unfortunately stumbles by poorly explaining the difference in swipes for each badge and there is a lack of information handled within combat with only information passed outside of combat. The screen can get hectic and trying to control your character the same way as you attack has issues and should been separate. Overall an interesting and unique game which needed a few tweaks to make it excellent

Super creative. Catchy music and beautiful art style. Frustrating controls - forced to use touch when stylus broke. Characters are melodramatic teens, but at times funny (Joshua in New Day offering to read us poetry). Horrible tutorial, didn't even know you could equip/feed your partners till near end. Useless map. Gameplay got pretty compelling near end game when I finally started to 'get' game and consistently get star rating.Updated 2.5 Months Ago

I really wanted to like this, but after playing it, I can clearly see that playability of Switch version was given very little attention. Put simply, the controls are absolutely horrendous. The game is just barely playable in its current state on the easy difficulty, although this is heavily dependent on the ludicrous control scheme actually responding to inputs. I could just about do what it wanted on easy mode, but I reached a point where you basically become brick walled unless you play on a harder setting to get a very specific set of random item drops in order to continue on. I found myself getting more frustrated at wrestling with the game just to let me actually play it than I was having fun.I really liked the vibe, music, and even visuals to an extent, but the gameplay is so unwieldy that I just can't recommend this to anyone.

One of the very few games that can be completed in a full touch mode. And one of the only two games that can be played in handheld mode without joy-cons attached & any controller connected. The iconic art style makes it stand out but constant glitches during battle makes me annoyed and drops the game.Updated 1 Year Ago

The story is passable and the art is great but the gameplay is so repetitive and the controls are so janky that I had no desire to continue after two in-game weeks. I just read the plot summary and moved on. Hope NEO is better cause I already bought it 🤡Updated 2 Years Ago

Super fun action RPG. Controls are a little jarring at first and never seem to work like they should but the game is forgiving enough to where once you get them down you should be fine. Story was good despite being short (maybe there's more in the dlc i haven't checked). There are so many cool ideas in here that I feel like i didn't fully delve into. There's a lot more fun to be had, look forward to the sequelUpdated 2.5 Years Ago

great game with an even greater soundtrack, literally the only problem for me is the motion controls, really irresponsive when you need them the most, i didn't play the extra chapter though, the free trial on Nintendo switch doesn't give you that much time to complete it.solid game, totally recommended.

Overall it’s a decent game. Played this during the game trials period and it was fun. Some things to note: personally I don’t recommend playing in docked mode as it hurt my wrist after about an hour of playing. It felt like I was controlling a WII remote. The touch screen is much better for controlling your character. In terms of the art-style and music it was very good. The music was half the reason I kept playing through the wrist cramps being in the style of hip hop. They had animated cutscenes using the character models from the game it seems which ranged from decent to wonky looking (which sometimes made me unable to take these things seriously). The story was also pretty good (another reason I stuck around) I didn’t really have any unanswered questions about the story by the end. Dialogue is pretty good (there was one guy who kept making math references and started listing out the digits of pi at one point). Gameplay felt good and well balanced till you start getting to the end where the bosses end up being impossible compared to the enemies you faced moments prior. With them teleporting around faster then you can attack them, thankfully when you die you can retry on easy mode which is nice. Sometimes you’d walk into the next area you’d see your character for a brief moment and then it cuts to dialogue, this got annoying especially towards the end of the game where it’s ramped up the number of these. Theres a mechanic where you can lower your level to increase the drop rates of items which is used a few times in the game quests but I never found any other use. Some of the twists in the game were obvious others were more well done. Overall pretty decent game, could see it being good for long car rides, people who enjoy games with lots a dialogue and lore to think about will probably have a good time.Updated 2.5 Years Ago

Great game! But kinda feels like a port of an ipad game than a port of the DS game. When in handheld mode, you can only use the touch screen (why can't I move my character with the analogue!?). The game should use a hybrid control method, but it doesn't. When docked you have to use wonky pointer controls. Overall it's a great story and still very fun. Just be aware that your touchscreen is gonna get messy.Updated 2.5 Years Ago

Good game with likable characters and an engaging storyline. However, the battle system is really clunky with the touchscreen and by the end I was switching it to easy just to get through the grinding fast. There's really no option to play in Japanese which is not great. Not fun to play by the end.Updated 3.5 Years Ago

I've (re)played this game on DS a couple times, but when they announced NEO:TWEWY for Switch, I decided to finally buy the console and replay this game for the first time in years. As far as I can tell, there's not much new in this "final remix" - I was hoping for an extra day or maybe even a week... (one can hope). Regardless, it's a good port. The updated graphics look very nice, and I didn't really miss the second screen from the DS version; I never really understood how the dual fight system with your partner worked anyway - I prefer the new system, where your partner basically functions as another pin.
I was a little disappointed by the ending, it felt... a little sudden? There was someone I really wanted to fight, that I never got the chance to. I did enjoy the credits and the little after credits scene. There's something very charming about this game, and this world. I look forward to my next visit.
(Even though yes, it's not the most accessible game in existence, long play sessions with this game give me RSI. One hour at a time is probably the optimal length for a play session, unless you wanna break your wrist. Or maybe I'm just using the wrong pins, idk.)

One of the best games you can get for the console at the moment. Buy it, it's good. Its story holds many deep personal messages and it will definitely connect with anybody looking for an action game/Action RPG on the Switch. The controls take a little getting used to since they're pretty unique, but the oddball style fits with the game's themes so it balances out.Updated 4 Years Ago

The controls are really the only point of contention for me. On the one hand, the game being built for touch screens makes creating controls hard. On the other hand, some of the pins do not control well at all. Other than that, the story was fun, with good character progression.Updated 4 Years Ago

This game will tell you your playtime but only in hours and minutes. To do so, go into your menu and tap the "Deeds" icon and then press Shiki on that screen. Your "Play Time" will appear above her.Final Deck: Blizzard Cool, Velocity Tackle, Ice Risers, Blue Blood Burns Blue, Splish Splash Barrier, Speed Factor
I never played the DS version and was introduced to these characters via Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance. This game is meant to be played in Handheld Mode which I used after learning very quickly that the TV Mode controls were garbage. Even without the "puck" or whatever the DS version had that this game removed, it still proved a nice challenge in terms of gameplay. One of the few issues i ended up having with this game is that there were plenty of items I was supposed to get during specific points in the game to make the it easier on me. Yet the game lets you do most of the combat whenever you feel like. So by the time you get to a boss, even if you're set to Easy difficulty, you could have a bad time if you skip too many battles or just not realize when to get certain things.
Besides all of that, the story was fantastic. It gets a little confusing even with some answers coming from post-game stuff but overall I had a great time with it and I recommend it especially to people that like using touch controls for everything.

Nomura and his team have tried to modernize turn-based combat mechanics across many of their games. This game is an interesting case study in how they try to do that, combining some real-time combat mechanics with strategy. That said, I'm not sure how much this game has to offer for those who aren't already fans of Nomura's work. The story is enjoyable but the pacing drags for the first half of the game and there are a LOT of cutscenes, so it could easily be tiresome if you aren't super invested in the narrative. The gameplay is decent enough but at the end of the day I didn't love it and the best thing I can say about it was it was non-intrusive. Some of the features related to leveling up and progression seemed built for a game that was many times longer or at least more open-world. I hardly bought any food or equipment and didn't see any reason to go into random encounters.Updated 4.5 Years Ago

Extremely enjoyable game. I've beat the main game, and have completed some of the optional side-quests. I've unlocked some of the reports, and I might go sometime and get them all to unlock the secret day. I highly recommend TWETH:FR if you want a story-driven game to be sucked into. It's fairly in-expensive compared to other switch titles, so pick it up if you ever see it for cheap.Updated 5 Years Ago

The original TWEWY is still in a three-way tie for my favourite game of all time. While the battle system in Final Remix is severely gimped with only one screen, everything else is a huge improvement from the DS version. Full music tracks, beautiful sprite work, new post-game content and no more Mingle XP. Still by and large the same unique and enjoyable JRPG cult hit that captivated so many people a decade ago.Updated 5.5 Years Ago

Never played the original so this was the first experience I had with the game.I have to say that I really wanted to like the game and I do find the soundtrack to be phenomenal. Aside from that however I couldn't bring myself to like anything else. None of the characters were likable to me, especially the main character who is just frustratingly written. Combat is repetitive with seemingly little variance to it. Worst of all though is the controls, being forced into using the joy cons and motion controls for the game is terrible. Everything else I could overlook but it's such a chore attempting to play the game with the finicky controls that work sometimes when they feel like it. Playing this on the DS probably would've been a much more enjoyable experience but the Switch version is just unplayable.

Official IGN Review

Because of the Switch’s two modes, The World Ends With You: Final Remix is simultaneously a good port and a bad one. Using handheld mode and touchscreen controls, Final Remix holds up as a great JRPG with tons of depth. It packs all the flair and charm seen in the DS original, along with some new incentives to keep playing after the story wraps. But the moment you dock the Switch and try to use motion controls TWEWY becomes a pain to play, which eliminates the fun of the new cooperative mode. The rearranged and remixed soundtrack is great and the story delights, but if you’ve played before you may want to think twice before double (or triple) dipping.Updated 5.5 Years Ago
