Great add on experience to the Ragnarock entry. The gameplay is tight and responsive, the chests to change each run felt well done, I didn’t like the locked areas, felt a bit grindy. But the overall game was fun and even better than it was freeUpdated 2.5 Weeks Ago

Spectacular for a free DLC. A lot of content for a free DLC. I spent a lot of time on it and had a ton of fun while playing. Progressing myself was very rewarding as I slowly became strong enough to make the game a lot easier. Although it is made to be repetitive, it does a really good job at not being repetitive. With the many different good builds you can make and relying on luck to get good ones, it made every run unique and fresh. I loved all the fan service in this and all the character development for Kratos. I think that alone makes it essential for players to experience. So much quality narrative content in this one and it was worthy of being DLC for Ragnarok.Updated 1 Month Ago

Awesome game mode to an already brilliant game. I rated this very highly because of several factors:
- different gameplay structure (rogue-like) compared to base game
- retains gameplay components (combat) which we like
- supportive story which ties the greek saga
- perfect length
- perfect difficulty
- free
I put this off for so long but this dlc is a must play for GoW franchise fans.

The Valhalla DLC for God of War Ragnarök is a delightful addition to the game, offering just the right amount of content to enhance the experience. The gameplay remains as engaging, varied, and deep as ever, with a satisfying focus on high-level combat challenges. This allows players to fully immerse themselves in the fighting mechanics. Additionally, the DLC provides intriguing insights into Kratos' story, adding depth and enriching the overall narrative.Updated 3 Months Ago

God of War Ragnarok – Vahalla is an excellent new free DLC for the main game and uses it to give Kratos a chance to introspect on his previous actions and both condemns and justifies them allow Kratos to accept his past. This is done via a rogue lite style gameplay with multiple runs rewarding more story and abilities to level up Kratos. It however is fairly limited in terms of a roguelite being a simple DLC and unfortunately that hurts it’s longevity. It is not helped that is easily to get fully upgraded way before the epilogue and you end up spinning your wheels just to reach it.Updated 3.5 Months Ago

Valhalla is one of the best examples of a rougelike mode and a free DLC. Weaving in much more story than I anticipated, this experience harkened back to the original God of War’s in a special way feeling like we’re reflecting with Kratos. The gameplay is as good as ever and the incentive to change up your play style and try new things is rewarding. This feels like a fitting place to end Kratos’ story.Updated 4 Months Ago

Nice additional content, does what GoW does well, good storytelling and combat.I was not a big fan of the sanctuary rooms as I wanted to run around making sure I found all pots and didn't miss any chests.
Also were a bit too large for a transition room in my opinion, would've preferred a smaller room like the ones you go through at the start of the runs.
But overall, it was a cool bit of extra story, hopefully they will expand more on this world

This is an excellent DLC for being free. I felt it adds a fun twist on the gameplay and progression, and serves as a completion to Kratos’ character arc in a touching and satisfying way.The idea to tie in the Norse games with the Greek ones is great, and I certainly enjoyed seeing some references and throwbacks to Kratos’ past. The RNG elements are fun to me and I liked the idea of getting more powerful in each run. I will say it started to get a bit repetitive towards the end of the story, but it ends before it overstays its welcome.
I do wish that we got more on the Greek side of things. It would have been cool to revisit more characters and locations from Greece, but I understand there’s only so much you can do with a free DLC.
Overall though, this is a fantastic DLC and the fact that it is free shows that Santa Monica Studio is one of the best developers out there right now. I’d recommend anyone play Valhalla if they finished the main game, as it’s the perfect cherry on top to an outstanding game. 9/10 (Amazing)

My fault for not understanding what this was, but this is essentially an arcade game with a story. Think Muspelheim trials with cut scenes. It is free so there's that.Updated 6 Months Ago

Solid here from Santa Monica. Definitely a DLC, and it is very obvious, as the gameplay loop really is mediocre at best, but the story is pretty great, and I love the nostalgia aspect of it. I do think the inclusion of Tyr being the final fight was lame but the final scene with Kratos finding himself was incredible, and I really cannot wait to see where the franchise goes.Updated 6.5 Months Ago

As a gamplay experience, it is superior to the main game. The RPG elements fit this format way more and thankfully, no mandatory puzzle solving. The RPG aspect really allows you to experiment with all the weapons, and tools/items in a way that wasn't possible in the story. It is surprising how many new enemies and bosses you'll encounter. However, it's not all that replayable. Something you'd expect from a roguelite is longevity.Though coming back to this, it reminds me how much better it could be if they just pulled back the FOV. Having red arrows denoting when an offscreen attack is coming is not good. For being a combat centric mode, I could have done without the exploration aspect. It adds nothing.
As for the story, I wasn't a fan of how sappy Ragnarok was and as expected, it leans into that in this DLC. Cool ending though.

Good DLC, I have to say, i wasn't expecting a rogue-like. That's good but i've more enjoyed the loop in games like Hades.GoW is, for me, a story game, I would have enjoy more a short 10hours story rather than just spamming some casual mobs.
But overall, good, nice ending

I was completely surprised by how good this was. Ragnarök has an excellent core gameplay loop and it fits perfectly into the rogue-lite formula, obviously inspired by Hades and other similar games. This DLC is a real love letter to fans of the original God of War trilogy, and delivers a deep exploration into the Kratos from those games (as well as references to even the PSP titles and Ascension which was a lovely surprise). It's amazing how Santa Monica have changed Kratos from so two-dimensional in the earlier games, to truly one of the most interesting and compelling characters in recent triple AAA gaming. Get's me very excited for where Kratos may go in the future, and if this epilogue does serve as the end of his journey for good then it also works as a perfect introspective farewell.Updated 7.5 Months Ago

I loved jumping back into this game. The combat felt good, and the God of War combat systems work great in a rogue-like setting. The story was great, and I was always excited to see what story beat came next. The only reason the score isn't as high, is I hated the upper level of Valhalla, and it got a little too repetitive after a while.Updated 8 Months Ago

This was a very nice surprise from the Game Awards show. I yearned for more GoWR combat, but could not bear to slog through the main game once more. Valhalla provides a nice opportunity to experience the combat again, and adds a surprising amount of story elements. My main points of criticism are:
1) no companions - even more disappointing as in the main game you can try fighting aside different characters in Niffleheim testing grounds;
2) new enemies are nice, but after initial excitement, you can easily see that they are mostly retextured GOWR enemies, with some abilities mixed;
3) some sanctuary areas are too big, and while in initial runs this is justified dialogues playing out while you traverse, later on they feel like a waste of time;
4) overall I am not a fan of roguelites, so having to do the same sections over and over again was annoying at times. Most disappointingly, a very good run was ruined when the final boss refused to transition to phase 2 and stood outside of the arena, invulnerable to damage, and nothing could be done about it.
Overall, felt good to revisit Ragnarok. 8/10.
Playthrough statistics: 10hrs on 2nd/3rd difficulty to finish the main story and get all achivements.

God of War: Ragnarök - Valhalla story truly served as an Epilogue for the Norse Saga & honestly speaking serves also as a conclusion to Kratos story story for now. Helios, Blade of Olympus & Classic Kratos skin returning we're some of the best surprises. But none more fitting and emotional than Greek saga Kratos setting on his throne in the final moments.This DLC had exceed my expectations and for us classic fans who grew up playing the Greek Saga this felt like a love letter to us with some of the best call backs to the older games. and possible hint at remakes of the Greek Saga? only time will tell.

A surprisingly engaging utilization of God War’s deeply satisfying combat and storytelling married with the strategy of the roguelite genre. The downside is that there isn’t as much variety as experience roguelite players are accustomed to, so seeing all the story content possible can drag somewhat.But therapy has never been more fun and addictive, and all for the incredible price of free!

I was watching the game awards live when this was revealed, and I remember thinking that I was gonna skip this dlc. I usually don't play dlc that just adds an "extra mode" to the game, because if theres no worthwhile story, then why should I put effort into playing it? However, upon release I had heard that this was a fantastic dlc, and that ironically this free dlc was longer (and better) than the most recent cod campaign, which cost 70 dollars, which is even more of a slap in the face after christopher judge's joke at the game awards. So, I decided to give it a try, and i'm glad that I did so. This isn't the best dlc this year, but I do think its worthwhile for the story of this game.I saw someone compare this dlc to a "therapy session for kratos" and I couldn't agree more. Over the course of this campaign he finally seems to deal with his past, and finally seems to accept and forgive himself for the horrible things he did in the past. This story really is a love letter to the original 6 games, by not only referencing older events and characters, but also bringing some old characters/enemies back. This truley does feel like an epilogue to the events of all 8 games. I was skeptical about how relevant this dlc would be, however I think that this game perfectly wraps up kratos's arc over the past 2 games, and needs to be played to be fully satisfied.
The gameplay side of this dlc however is where I have a few problems. At first its fun getting back into the god of war combat, and this dlc really made me appreciate how great the combat in that game was, however as the game continues, you're really just doing the same thing over and over with little change. I know thats the whole point of the dlc, but mindlessly fighting enemies for 4 hours gets a little stale. I mean, you even fight the same boss 4 times! I don't think its bad combat, and they do really try to add things to the loop that changes it up, but I still do think it does get a little old.
What I love most about this dlc is how it uses the concept of valhalla and a rougelite game and uses it to tell a compelling story about forgiveness and accepting the past. This dlc feels just up to par with the original game, and if you loved that game, then I know youll love this. This was a fantastic dlc, and the fact that their giving this out for free is even better. I highly recommend that you play this game.

Valhalla is a free DLC that adds a rogue lite mode to the game. You can explore Valhalla and fight different enemies with various power-ups. It is fun, addictive, and challenging. It also continues the story of Kratos, expands the story and gives a shot of the facing of Kratos' background. The graphics, sound, and voice acting are amazing. Valhalla is a must-play for any fan of God of War.
