Pony Island walked so that Inscryption could run, the first Daniel Mullin game is indeed worth your play.

It isn't even close to being hidden that this game is meta, even if you know NOTHING about it just mere seconds after you start playing, it shifts quickly, and that is the worst part, there isn't any narrative build-up, as much as this theme is cliché, it still is better to be led on than to just enter the game and start uncovering deep secrets that mean nothing to you.

Although the game works with what is presented really well, interacting with the player in smart ways, and keeping fresh all throughout, even having a reason for you to 100% it.

But still, I feel like the weakest points are the story telling (Inscryption spoilers ahead). Which is completely different from Inscryption, simply playing an INCREDIBLE game and finding out midway of its MASTERPIECE narrative, that is what leaves you shaken to the core and immersed.

In all a great game, worth playing, no matter how much you already know of it!

En líneas generales, se trata de un juego poco intuitivo en determinados aspectos, hasta el punto de perderme, no saber qué hacer y recurrir a una guía un par de veces, para comprobar que la solución, como presentía, resultaba poco obvia. Sin embargo, me consiguió sorprender por su originalidad en otros momentos, como al enfrentarme a algunos rivales, ya que me piló desprevenido con algunos eficaces elementos de ruptura de la cuarta pared. Por otro lado, los puzles sobre programación me parecieron inteligentes y nunca había visto algo parecido. Aun así, la historia y su final son raros y absurdos, incluso diría que bastante aburridos.

Es decir, con todo esto, le noto mucho mimo al desarrollo del juego, y ansias de crear algo diferente; pero, ante todo, no sé si la hora y media que se ofrece realmente vale el precio pedido. Este título lo percibo más como un proyecto inicial de un desarrollador independiente, destinado a hacer ruido y ser retransmitido por internet, con tal de generar reacciones graciosas en streamers.

I'd almost guarantee that I if I had played Pony Island closer to when it came out, I'd have a fonder perspective on it. Instead, I just think about all of the somewhat neat 4th wall breaks, including one that is genuinely terrific, (you know which one), is other games that have done them better. Still, even if the puzzles are easy and the main gameplay is pretty lame, intentionally and unintentionally, I think it's presentation and short length prevents it from being a 'bad' game.

I retired this game ages ago because the controls kept tabbing me out of the game (multiple monitor problems?) and it was frustrating to get through the pony levels without wildly flinging my mouse around. But then I calmed down when I came back to this and finished it. Not sure about the story but it was a fun game overall. Ready for PI2!

Review:
Pony Island is an interesting take on breaking the meta narrative of a game and it works extremely well when doing this throwing up different ways to break the meta in the game. It’s wrapped in a series of interesting and fun puzzles especially around the completion of games and run of game loops and it is thankfully short as there is possibility this game overstaying it’s welcome. Unfortunately the in game narrative I felt was rather meh compared to it’s meta narrative tricks and the platform section ultimately got tedious

This was a fun little game with devious mechanics. I fell for it a couple of times. I would've rated it lower if the platforming sections would've been more frustrating but luckily I found them to be manageable even if you have to coordinate your clicking really well.

What I liked:
* There are different elements to the game which are fun to explore
* The puzzles made me feel really smart.
* The style and atmosphere of the game fits within the horror genre without being scary.
* It surprised me multiple times.

What I didn't like:
* The music or sometimes lack thereof but the presence of an insistent sound is a bit annoying at times.
* The platforming parts weren't my favourite.

I'm curious about this developer's other games as I haven't played Inscryption yet. I'm looking forward to Pony Island 2 as well now.

Hilarious puzzle game from the developer of The Hex and Inscryption. Some of the mini games are a bit repetitive, but the way the developer is trolling you is incredible. Definitely recommend!

Прошел все три игры автора (эта + The Hex + Inscryption). Все нормас. Только надо было проходить по хронологии их выпуска: от простой к более сложной. А у меня получилось раком. Энивей - было прикольно. И довольно быстро.
Сложность: низкая (ну чуть-чуть пришлось иногда напрячь башку, а также экшен уровни не сразу проходились некоторые, но в целом - easy walk)
Геймплей: 2 из 5 (решаем головоломки, прыгаем 2Д-пони через преграды и стреляем, управляя только мышью; играбельный примитив)
Красота: 2 из 5 (пиксельный арт, со своим очарованием на любителя)
Музыка: 2 из 5 (простенькая)
Сюжет: 3 из 5 (вполне себе такой затейливый)
Концовка: 3 из 5 (ничего особенного, но финальный штрих с просьбой виртуального бадди - классный)
Финальные титры: 1 из 5 (простенько, но после них финальный штрих, см. предыдущий пункт)

This game had a few fun moments, especially one near the end that was meta, and the butterfly puzzles were great. However, the side-scrolling sections felt like Google Chrome's dinosaur game, and it felt annoying and repetitive to play. I didn't go for 100% completion, so there might have been a few more "secrets" I missed, but it doesn't seem like fun to go back and replay this.

It's a point and click puzzle game with runner sections.
The difficulty is very accesible, and the controls are quite easy to grapes.
There are some good ideas, some puzzles are very entertaining and the fact that you virtually mess around with the game's code is cool.

But the game is not very fun overall.. I found the game a bit boring at times, even though I finished it in less than 3hrs.

The game is not at the good resolution so you have to change it and some sound effects hurt my ears.

But the end was cool enough !
Time to uninstall the game ;)

Pony Island is an intriguing and creative experience, a top-notch indie effort. The game oozes style and offers some excellent breakage of the fourth wall, although perhaps not so masterfully as other games in the "meta-narrative" genre such as Undertale or The Stanley Parable. After completing the main story line of Pony Island, I was left feeling just a little unsatisfied: there is more story that could be told about the backstory behind the protagonist's ally, the creation and history of the Pony Island video games, the rivalry of the antagonists, etc., all of which is alluded to, but only enough to leave the player curious for more details.
