Beautiful platform, captivating visuals and story. It took me a lot to beat for some reasons, even if its a short game. But the difficulty it's what made me grow closer to it, since I spent almost a year casually trying to complete it. I'm glad I finally started playing this series :) And I love Mono <3

Fun, lovely and scary. Had some random bugs which luckily were not gamebreaking, they just required loading checkpoint.

Maybe some improvements on the movement for getting stuck on collisions would be good, but it's not like it is unbearable. I do think that maybe the character design of the first one was a little better...? But that is probably personal preference.

The revamped and absolutely stunning sequel to the frightening original Little Nightmares. Focusing on the light on a new character and acting as a Prequel to the first game, the game revolves around Mono the paper bag boy and his experience through the twisted world outside of the Maw. From disturbingly phantasmagorical landscapes, to the consistently twisted and altered faces and dysphorical bodies of the enemies and the rich and haunting music that follows, the themes of togetherness, survival and a very tiny sliver of hope held in the balance of everything makes for a truly stunning, beautiful and downright terrifying visual that takes everything amazing from the first game and pushes it all up to 110%.

Dunno if it's an issue exclusive to the Switch version, but the controls were absolutely horrendous. An input delay of about half a second undermined all possible goodwill the amazing atmosphere and visual storytelling should've generated.

Mono's sluggish, nightmarish movement might fit the sensation of being caught in a bad dream, but it made the game too frustrating for me. I've played the first game (on PS4) and had none of these issues. The melee combat ruined the mood for me, and from there it rarely recovered. The flashlight controls kept derailing the game. And from there on out it was constant derailment.

The sideways perspective might suit the hide-and-seek sections of the game, but chase sequences, combat and platforming suffer for it. It's impossible to get a good sense of depth from such a low camera angle, and it leads to a thousand frustrating deaths. I love the atmospheric storytelling, creature design, and story twists. Conceptually the game is great. But none of it succeeds in quenching the flames of rage that ruins the dread and sorrow the story attempts to convey.

It's highs don't reach that of the original. The two character mechanic was kind of frustrating du to collision. There were a lot of moments that I feel I unjustly was killed. A thought is maybe scripted events are tied to the fps. (I played in performance mode) The overall experiences I had through the game were worth while. I would say the last two chapters are very weak with the first 3 being fantastic. All of chapter 2 and the first half of chapter 3 were standouts.

Better controls, better puzzles, more reliable checkpoints and no more loading time issues... at first, Little Nightmares 2 is a total improvment of the first game and feels like one of those rare sequels that totally outclasses the original. However, by the beginning of chapter 3, you already know it is not. Not only LN2 falls back into the old (bad) habits of the first game in terms of controls and "depth of focus management", but its level design is much less inspired and its gameplay turns out to be rather repetitive. The saddest part being how monotonous the environments and the challenges are. LN1 had a lot of flaws, but its setting was fascinating and each level found a way to surprise. In comparison, LN2 is rather dull and often unsurprising, lacking both graphic madness and iconic moments until its very end. Not a bad game per se, but a disappointment.

Loved the game and atmosphere. The tight playtime kept my interest and enemy designs were fun. Held back for me by the fact that the perspective at times can interfere with gameplay and my game got soft-locked at one point forcing me to replay about an hour of the game as the checkpoint system didn't reset a lever properly.

Little Nightmares II - An Eerie Sequel That Expands the Nightmare

Introduction:
Little Nightmares II, the sequel to the original title, continues the journey into a surreal and nightmarish world. Developed by Tarsier Studios, this game builds upon the eerie atmosphere and unsettling puzzles of its predecessor while introducing new characters and environments. With its captivating design and eerie storytelling, it manages to provide an engaging and creepy experience.

Gameplay (85/100):
Little Nightmares II retains the core gameplay elements that made the first game a standout experience. Players take control of a new character, Mono, as he embarks on a treacherous journey with Six, the protagonist of the original game. The game combines platforming, puzzle-solving, and stealth elements, offering a series of challenges that require clever thinking and timing.

The addition of new mechanics, such as the use of objects as weapons and the introduction of AI companions, adds depth and variety to the gameplay. The puzzles are well-crafted and often require critical thinking, contributing to the game's sense of immersion. However, some may find the controls a bit finicky, leading to occasional moments of frustration.

Graphics and Sound (90/100):
Little Nightmares II continues to excel in the visual department. The hand-crafted, nightmarish environments are both grotesque and stunning. The meticulous attention to detail in character design and animations creates a haunting and immersive atmosphere. The use of lighting and perspective adds to the overall unease, making the world feel alive and foreboding.

Sound design plays a significant role in the game's atmosphere. The eerie soundtrack and sound effects contribute to the sense of dread and tension. The environmental noises, combined with the unsettling sounds of the game's antagonists, enhance the overall immersion.

Story and Narrative (85/100):
Little Nightmares II expands on the mysterious and disturbing world introduced in the first game. The narrative unfolds through environmental storytelling and minimal dialogue, leaving much open to interpretation. As players progress, they uncover the dark secrets of the world and its sinister inhabitants.

The storytelling succeeds in maintaining a sense of mystery and unease. The game's enigmatic nature invites players to piece together the narrative, adding depth to the overall experience. The connection between Mono and Six, as well as the revelation of the world's horrors, keeps players engaged.

Conclusion:
Little Nightmares II is a worthy sequel that manages to build upon the strengths of the original. It maintains the eerie atmosphere, delivers challenging puzzles, and introduces new gameplay elements to keep things fresh. The visuals and sound design contribute to the game's nightmarish ambiance, and the storytelling is enigmatic and engaging. While the controls can be a bit frustrating at times, the overall experience is captivating and worth the journey for fans of atmospheric, story-driven adventures.

Little Nightmares II is an improvement in every way over the original, in my opinion. The graphics and environmental art are miles ahead of the first game, with so much more detail and depth to them - these environments and locations felt so much more immersive and terrifying than in the first game.

Beyond the step up in graphical quality, the gameplay felt tighter. The controls were less finicky (though not perfect), and the balance between sneaking, puzzle-solving, and high-tension chase scenes felt really good.

The one thing that stuck out to me was the story - while in the first game you could pretty well piece things together into a pretty sensible narrative, in Little Nightmares II, things felt less coherent. There was an overall narrative about the world and the events that had taken place that felt pretty fleshed out, but the stories of the characters themselves felt a little lacking and the ending was vaguer than I would've liked.

In any case - I really enjoyed this game! It was perfectly spooky for this time of year, and I'm looking forward to the third next year!

This game has surprised me in the best way. I went into it expecting a very good game alike the first title but no, I got a game that was even better by a lot! The atmosphere is great, the sound design and art, the music, all of that is complimenting everything else. I liked the mechanics and some things were just so nice to have in another game of Little Nightmares. All around it was such a good and creepy / sometimes scary experience and the story took me by total surprise. And I could be going on and on about the designs and how cool the environments/enemies are but I wouldn't want to spoil! GG!

Overall: 7/10 (average)
Recommended: maybe
Time to complete story + some sides: about 6 hrs
(11/35 achievements, 4/9 hats, 13/18 Glitching Remains)
Genres: 2.5D puzzle platformer, atmospheric, unsettling (but not really horrific), some action sequences

Gameplay: 7.5/10
~ relatively slow, realistic, and clunky platforming
~ pull levers, climb objects, and carry items to solve puzzles or flee creepy caricatures of humans
+ the unsettling environment and action sequences keep this interesting, and seem to be the main draw for players
Story: 6/10
- no goal or story to connect the different levels; gameplay is the primary focus (you're just pushing forward and solving environmental puzzles to get to the next area)
Writing: 6/10
- no dialogue and very little animations to express the characters' emotions or goals
Characters: 6/10
- very little character development
Graphics: 8/10
Audio: 8/10
Settings/UI: good

I've considered trying to 100% this game, but I seem to be running into bugs when trying to unlock some of them, and the clunky gameplay + lack of scare from replaying has deterred me from bothering...

Score comparison:
HLtB: 8.1/10 (585 votes)

SCORE: ★★★★★ (Masterpiece)

This is not a big budget game. It does not tell a big story. Gameplay is quite simple, sometimes clunky. You may beat it in less than 6 hours. Still, I can only think about it as an excellent, memorable experience as very few games acomplish to be.

You play as a little kid, trying to survive in a very creepy, strange world where almost everything will try to kill you. You might do some plataforming, climbing, running, hidding, and puzzle solving in order to advance trought the levels. Thats the gameplay pretty much.

It is the graphical design and the story telling where this game really excels at.

The world around you is so creepy, uncanny and depressing, but also whimsichal, intriguing and out of this world at the same time.
It feels like a creepy children's story book and its just beautiful in a twisted way.

The game is filled with lots of powerful moments, and has the ability to evoke many emotions to the player trought good storytelling, even if there is no dialogs. There is no need for words when you can show, not tell.

Urgency, fear, chill, and sometimes triumph are few of the many things you may feel as you make your way trought the game while escaping and sometimes beating the many dangers you may encounter.

I do think videogames can be art. If I had to prove my statement, this game would be a great example for it.

PD. Play the first one if you havent! It is as good as this one.

If you looking for a scary puzzle game then look no further. While LM1 was already great and is definitely one of my favourite games of the last few years LM2 manage to offer a different flavour yet it doesn't get repetitive. I can highly recommend it. It is a short game though, but beautifully made so perhaps get it on sale (£15 or less).
