Okami tells the story of a mythical sun god who sets out to restore a dismal world, decimating the forces of evil who stand in the way by commanding the elements and mythical abilities the deity possesses. Mixing Japanese folklore and a stunning traditional Japanese art style, players must utilize an inventive control scheme to overcome the challenges and evil that await.

Definitely going to try to play this one this month.
Played it on the Wii many years ago when borrowing it from a friend, but I guess I didn't get too far, have it from the playstation store now on my PS3, so will be playing it on that.

I didn't even follow the voting for this month nth because I was determined to finish Digimon Story and figured I wouldn't play anything else, but wow, Okami. Freaking loved that game. Arguably out-Zelda'd all of the Zeldas. Enjoy, y'all!

Interesting. I have a save with X hours in, can't even remember. Don't know why I haven't played it, perhaps because it's on my Wii which I rarely use nowadays. Might give this a try again though.

Ahhh I already played this game twice from start to finish on the Wii, so I won't be playing it again, but I LOVE this game, so I recommend it to anyone who hasn't played it yet. Great story, fun combat, and the soundtrack is amazing and gives me chills. It's available on PS2, PS3 (HD version) and Wii, but I can't imagine it being easy without a Wii controller to draw the shapes... The game requires you to be very meticulous sometimes xD

it's one of the best action-adventure games ever made

I really like a lot of things about this game, but the pacing is super wonky which stopped me from ever finishing it. I kept feeling like I'd get to a point that was the end of the game, and then the game would keep going. It started to get frustrating that that happened more than once (whereas in most games they do a much better job of telling or suggesting that it's just leading into the end of one arc or splitting things into completely separate stories), and some stuff later into the game also started feeling repetitive/tedious on top of that. I still think it's great aside from that, but I just couldn't bring myself to finish it and don't see even having it as the game of the month getting me to pick up my old save and try pushing through one more time.

The weather has been pretty great here the past week or so, so haven't had a great deal of time to play.... along with that my PS3 randomly shut off whilst playing losing me about half an hour of play time. (considering I'm only about 3-4 hours in, it's quite a bit to lose!).
I've only just got the ability to have two weapons equipped so can't really say what are my favourites yet.
My main annoyance with the game at the moment is the "talking", I kinda wish you could turn it off, as it is very repetitive, and a faster message speed as well would be great!

Yo, so what are people doing with this game?

I got the HD version on PS3 but my friend who I'm moving in with next month wanted to play it with me, so I'm postponing until then. Still excited to return to it, I had some annoyances the first time I played it, but I've mostly gotten over them over time.

Last I played (almost a week ago I guess), was just after the Festival. Finding it hard to find the time to play the game, which is a shame.
I see nalgas' point as the bit before the festival felt like an end game period (even though it's only about 12hrs in!).

I loved this game and the art style is truly timeless. The scene near the end where Issun is rallying the people to help Ami fight the final boss brought a single manly tear to my eye.
My only gripe is that it's way too long, especially if you want to complete all the side stuff.

Still chipping away at the game.. about 26hours in now, and got to the snowy area... somewhere I suspect nalgas was talking about, as I had just done a section that felt like it was at the end of the game. (My wife kept on saying to me - this seems to be the end of the game, are you sure it isn't?). I knew due to the comments in this thread that there was still more to go.
Hopefully will be able to put it in next month's completion list.

Just finished this game and I have to say this was a rather gorgeous game and it's graphics have held up quite well for a PS2 game although there are definitely some models which are obviously 2D and not fully 3D but you can easily ignore that problem and just enjoy the visuals and world built around it.
The game played very much like a Zelda game and it makes use of this set up well especially with how it handles it's power ups. Outside of the dungeons as well is a large and varied world with some great little side quests to do with it.
My biggest problem with the game is surprisingly the size of it. I felt the game was too long and would've been better suited with really only either 1 or 2 of the island instead of all three. It didn't help that I felt the overarching story didn't really connect the islands together that well (although the stories for each island separately were all good self contained stories in one self or the other). My problem with the size could be just the fact that I've recently been playing some larger length games though and perhaps I wouldn't felt like this if I had played this game at another point.
Never the less I would recommend anyone to pick this game up. It is very much an overlooked classic which is well worth a try.

Played Okami when I was 12, taught myself the hiragana and katakana when I was 19, studied abroad in Japan when I was 20. I really fell in love with Japan after playing this game. Greek mythology has always been interesting but it's so common in Western societies. The Shinto folklore I found completely fascinating.
