I JUST redeemed the 7-day trial for Switch Online from MyNintendo...welp I now know the first thing I'm going to do with it (besides trying out Super Mario Bros. 35).

I didn’t vote since I didn’t want to feel obligated to play anything this month, but this is the next Mario game I was planning on completing so I may end up participating at least a little.
I did play this one a bit a few years ago with my college roommate and I enjoyed it. I wasn’t very good at it (my roommate quickly became better than me at it) but I generally struggle a bit with 2D platformers since I get careless.

So I think I'm going to order an SNES cart, I already beat it on NSO and I feel like playing the original version.

That game had been a day-1 purchase for me at the time, when the SNES came out actually. I've beaten this game so many times. Last time I played was in February last year. Completed with 95/96 exists. I've completed this game at 100% so many times. I still don't know where is this secret exit that I missed that time tho. Of my last run (4h30), I probably wasted at least one full hour trying to find that last exit, otherwise that I would have been a sub-four hours completionist run for sure.

I've completed this one a couple times now. Beat it with a bud earlier this year before the lock down hit. Classic game. Not my favorite 2D Mario of all time, but definitely up there.

I've never played this one before and I have a NSO subscription so... Might as well play it now!

Did a 100% run of this one with a friend over NSO! Probably won't replay again so soon to join the full discussion, but it was as amazing as it always has been. However, playing it with someone that had never played it before was definitely different. I could see how obtuse some of the secret exits that are ingrained in my head or how hard some of the levels can be.
Wonder how this one is received by people going completely blind without any help...Especially if trying to find every exit in the game...

Well, haven't nominated and voted anything to not influence the book club while I basically know that I will fail to complete anything again... In fact I wasn't even aware what was nominated as I tried to avoid that thread.
I still have my NSO subscription so I canplaystart that game, too!

Nice, I can finally put my NSO SNES controller to use. Even though I love platformers, I didn't get around to play Super Mario World yet, so this should be interesting.

What an absolute classic. I remember my parents surprised me with it and a SNES on Christmas morning in 1991. That was an epic day of gaming!

I didn't vote for this cause i thought it was in my backlog but I just found a version of it under a different name (Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World for the GBA) so i'll be joining this months GotM afterall

I aven't played anything in almost 6-7 weeks now. I'm still busy with other projects but I might get back into gaming and re-re-re-re-re-re-replay this again. The last time I playd this was in February 2019 and I was missing only one exit. I used to get all 96 very easily back in the 90s so I'm not sure why I had missed one. If I do play SMW this month, I'll try to fix that and get my ⭐96 score once more...

Is there a particular difference between the SNES and GBA versions? I have access to both so I'll play whichever is considered the 'better' release.

9 Yrs♥$✓#
I usually prefer the original release. I think that he SNES version as a biger field of view. Also, it's easier since when you have some super power (like the fireflower or the cape) and you get hit, you don't revert to small Mario like in the SNES version. You just lose your super power but stay big Mario. Other than that, yuo can check this wiki and see the other differences.

Had my first session of Super Mario World
Got to the third worlds ghost house
I've played this one before but only got to the sixth world. Looking at that data it seems i need to find a hidden exit to get to the boss world of that area but ugh i couldn't find it.
Getting back to this current run i'm finding this much harder then when I as younger. In sense i'm finding Mario rather stiff to use. He moves too slow unless I hold B where i then find it difficult to hit A. It also doesn't help i'm playing on an old DS with a rather small screen so it can be hard to see everything and sometimes I can't see whats coming.
Still while I complain I have to say it more due to the fact I suck at this game (seems a common theme for me and platformers now) and very little to do with the game. The levels are hard but are small and concise and can be done in a few minutes so they don't overstay there welcome. They are also easy to navigate so it's rare to get lost.

How do I embed my game page into a forum post?

Oh

Thanks for sharing that info! Other than the screen size and reverting to super/small Mario on a hit, the differences seem negligible. I'll probably play the first couple of levels on both and see which I prefer.

I played this game here and there at a friends house since I never owned a SNES. Given that, I never actually played it start to finish either. Figured I'll add it to my backlog and get around to it some day.

The best Mario game.
I never got around to a 96 exit playthrough, although I started with the intention of doing so about 20 times.

I got an SNES cart and am on the 2nd world, Doughnut plains. This game reminded me that I am shit at platformers. I'm an hour in and am still not past Morton's castle. Ignore what it says about my play time, that's showing from my NSO playthrough.

Huh, didn't expect this one to actually get voted. I didn't vote for anything this round, but I might pop in and out here. I have finished the game before some years back with my sister (I think she carried me through honestly ha). But I might play it a bit here and there this month, though probably with no intentions of actually beating it this time. It's a game I have a certain soft spot for though! I'm just...also bad at and bad at sticking with Mario

It took Super Mario World to get me out of my two-months gaming slump. I got that game the week it came out and completed that game at 100% many many many time. It's a favorite of mine and I still enjoy it. I played ~40 minutes tonight which was enough to complete the first two worlds at 100%. At this point I have found all 21 exists. The last time I completed that game was in February 2019. I'll try to keep playing without any guide or walkthrough to see if my memory is good... To be continued!
Edit: The time shown in the box below is from my 2019 completion.
