This game was kind of confusing for me. The debates seemed like a step back from the last. The minigames felt like a regression from the last game, and the new minigames also felt completely pointless. This game is different from the previous two in that it somewhat abandons that overarching hope v despair battle against Junko for some meta commentary. I believe the message was something about moving on and pursuing the truth regardless of the nature of such a truth. Pretty interesting stuff. Like in the last two games, the story has as bittersweet ending. A lot of the players have died, but the people left alive are leaving in a hopeful note. The most memorable part of this game was the twist and the shift in focus on the last act which caught me by surprise. I did not expect the shift to meta commentary, but I guess the hope v despair theme really played its course by the end of the second game (and anime), so I did not mind this twist.

It’s the weakest game of the 3 until the very end, when it become wonderful and the 40 hours feels worth the whole journey not just for the game but the whole series. I won’t spoil it for people but if you enjoy the first 2 games then you should enjoy this one, otherwise it’s more of the same but this series is unique and no other series really does it the same. Happy killing game!

Killing games usually don't have particularly good characters. The interesting ones die and you're left disappointed. V3 changes all that. The previous games had several situations where the camaraderie between the students barely exists, and in my opinion, often had no reason to work with each other or care about the deaths they saw. V3 changes all that. Two specific cases broke me and became the first of stories of this sort that actually make me cry and care about the characters to the degree I would with a character drama anime series.

One last thing I want to address is the controversial ending. I don't want to spoil anything here, but I will say is that, in my opinion, while this ending can be a slap in the face, it's important to consider the meaning of this within the story itself, as well as the message they want to convey. Beyond the meta message, it tells us that fiction can change the world and that it has meaning, and that truth can be found within lies (and this is used quite well in the gameplay). Not only are these important messages that I believe are told super well, but is the ending the characters deserve.

The end of the Danganronpa series had a very controversial finale for some, but I loved it. What an insane ending it was. Regardless of what you feel about that, the rest of the game is still as good, if not better than the other 2 games. The visuals look super clean, music is great as always, and has some of the strongest trial cases in the series.

A fitting end for an absurd series. You had a good run, Danganronpa. I'll miss this series.

While the story feels quite different than the other two brilliant games, it's still great and the plot twist is again amazing. Kind of different than expected, but absolutely amazing.
It lacks a bit the amazing cast of part 2 though, which made the second game stand out even when compared to the perfect first title, but overall, still a great game and a must-play for every Danganronpa fan.

Holy shit....The conclusion to the danganronpa series and what a game it was. After a full year and 3 months of dangan, I finally beat them all (while my friends backseat gamed the whole thing).
Really good cast of characters and witnessing the ending myself....It was so existentially terrifying that I actually lost some sleep. I won't spoil the ending because it's something you have to see to believe....just holy shit. I do at least like that they left some genuine ambiguity to the end though.
The cases this time around were awesome though I feel they still aren't as good as DR2. Solved all the cases before hand but that in itself is the fun of this game. Executions were tremendously brutal this time around, not a single character got something that could be considered slightly merciful. As per usual there are the tremendously painful moments DR is known 4. Trial 4 was genuinely difficult to finish due to how badly it broke my heart. Ending was amazing in my eyes, I feel that if you hated the ending you kinda missed the point of the whole damn trail. Besides, the game ended with some ambiguity due to the masterminds final words.
All in all, amazing ending to the Dangan series. While it does hurt a bit that there almost certainly won't be a Danganronpa 4, It certainly was a wild ride that you'll never forget 8.5/10.

The first case is the worst in the series on storytelling--it completely betrays your trust. The main character literally hides things from you; The second case is the worst in murder method logic (if you get to the window to tie the rope, why even need the rope to glide there?) You might say that she was unable to climb the ladder while carrying the body, but I'm pretty sure that, if they can throw him with perfect precision, then they can climb a ladder with him as well. The motive was great though; The third one, in the first half specifically, is the worst one in terms of minigames (every single one I knew what to say, but not how, since multiple bullets correspond. Spot selection was also buggy) They could've had the culprit not kill Angie and force the others to live with him, which would've been great (The students have lived with serial killers before, but never someone who killed their friend.) Otherwise, it's one of my favorites; Case 4 is great all-around and probably my second favourite after 1-2; 5 is another one of my favourites. That, or I just like Kokichi and anything he's in. The 100-page Script was really dumb though.

One of my favorite games of all time! Everything improved in Danganronpa V3, strong story with a memorable cast and the ending, although hated by some fans, was one of the most unique ways to conclude a story. The post game is solid as well including a gacha card game for all the characters in mainline games and a dungeon RPG as well. All in all, 10/10!

This is a bit of a letdown of the series. For a Visual Novel there are an amazing amount of weak moments, idiot ball, plot holes, and time wasting annoying parts.

Die hard fans of the series will love it, and some of the chapters are at least a little challenging; but there isn't much here.

Pros: This is the best game in the Danganronpa series, period. The twists in the story are mindblowing and heartbreaking when you don't get spoiled beforehand. This game also has the best cast of characters, with about half being amazing. The game only has one truly abysmal character and two bad ones. The connection with the other characters felt much more real because there were personal interactions outside of the FTE's.

Like in the other games, the music is amazing, especially Scrum Debate. At first, I didn't like Climax Reasoning V3, but I've grown to enjoy it more than the original, as it fits the game's atmosphere really well.

They even improved the mode where you can get all of the bonds, by removing the minigame and solely focusing on the bonds.

Neutral: Ultimate Talent Development plan is a little fun, but a bit repetitive. The highlight of the mode is the conversations between characters. They can even involve characters from other games or the bad ones from the anime. However, the purpose of this mode is to train characters for Monokuma's Test, which is a bit confusing in the beginning but quite repetitive.

Cons: Monokuma's Test is the RPG dungeon crawler, side mode. You can only gain new gear, not level up your characters. If you get stuck you either have to develop characters specifically to deal with that threat, the RNG in the development mode makes this more challenging and it takes some time. The other option is to get higher-ranked cards, which gain more stats in the development mode, but they have an incredibly low chance of dropping, so you're forced to use option 1 until you have beat enough bosses to have a decent chance of getting them. I didn't finish it because the thought of developing better characters, with a chance of them getting worse, and relying on luck to get higher-ranked cards didn't seem that appealing to me.

This is the first game I have ever played where I skipped through all of the text for the final 4 hours of the game because the writing was repetitive and full of holes. What starts as a stylish and interesting twist on the formula from the first two titles ends up crashing and burning into a mess that I couldn't wait to just be done with. Fans of the game may claim that this feeling is intentional and that it contributes to its themes. To quote Shuichi, "That's bullshit."

This game is like a roller-coaster: hard to process all the twists and turns and at the end you are fairly shaken, but it was still fun. Has a controversial ending, but I thought the mini games were improved enormously, the story was interesting enough (although trial 3 was lacking in potential), and the group dynamic was alright. Will see how I feel about it later it for now I would say it may surpass Dr2 in terms of how much I liked it.

V3 attempts to make the characters have even more complicated emotions and reactions than those from the previous games. It's a little much, since the number of characters didn't go down, so the game loses its memorability. But the project floats since it feels like it develops the personas of the previous games.

Danganronpa V3 is basically the best game in the series mechanically but then the story comes along and makes it EASILY the worst in the whole series. Unfortunately the ending, while surprising and different, I think hurts the world of Danganronpa overall and weakens the series. Danganronpa was one of my favorite series but is now basically one of my least favorite.

My reasoning for thinking the story is the worst below, beware spoilers for DV3

SPOILERS:

While the whole "Danganronpa is 'real fiction' in that it's live actors, who agree to be brainwashed and actually murder each other" is definitely an interesting twist, it's also personally a cheap throwaway twist. It invalidates the entirety of Danganronpa 1 and 2 and just devalues the whole series. The series had built up a solid foundation to build interesting stories, and this basically throws all that away.

There is a way out of this but it'd be tough, they did leave a way out in the scene at the end where they say that Tsumugi "copied" the killing game formula. They could use that to canonically confirm that DR1 and DR2 actually happened, re-validating that the first 2 stories were not fiction, and the tragedy did happen, and Junko did exist etc. but that DRV3 is happening many years later, some time in the future after future foundation finally defeated the remnants of despair or something. Which would allow DR1, DR2 and DRV3 to be all canonically in the same universe.

Will they? probably not but it's one way out of this mess, and if they do that for a DR4 or something, I will update this review, fixing this would make this game an easy 70% or even an 80%

It is another Danganronpa

The characters are not as likable. Some qualities make them better made and not in others. Most of them will use their skills, more useful during the evidence phase, most of them either slowly developed or had a two-face. They are still roughly expys of other characters. Their motives were kind of mixed. There are at least two super obnoxious characters.

There are a few really good scenarios, mostly because they made them more heartfelt than any other. The majority seemed like missed opportunities or bland. They are also dragged out longer making this the longest of the three games.

The overarching story was the worst. Especially with how it is explained at the end. The build-up to the last trial is better than two's but the trial itself and the ending are worse than two's. I still think one had the best overall ending. They leave several points unexplained.

The setting places itself as a mix between 1 and 2, both a school setting and specialized locations.

The mini-games were better than the other two games. The only problem I had was with playing on the keyboard kept the controller icons up, which makes some minigames harder than they needed to be. I also have no idea why they changed keyboard controls on the is game.

I still would recommend going through the games in their intended order. It is not a big deal-breaker for this one though from how it sets its-self apart.

The first game was very clever and the mysteries actually gave some payoff. In two though it dragged quite a bit, the twists were great which kept me going. In this game, every time a major twist was revealed my eyes rolled back to the back of my head. This game feels like fan fiction. I appreciate that they were trying to change things up but it just didn't work. Everything revealed in this game basically ruin the old ones characters and stories. Of course the mastermind had to be one of the most boring characters in the whole franchise with a stupid gimmick for their talent. Most these characters are given a trope and they repeat them until they die in the killing game or until the very end. Their is nothing here. Kokichi who is suppose to be a wild card is basically a great value Nagito. However I will give credit to Himiko, Keebo, and Maki who were given character development. They happened to be the only characters I liked as well. It did have the same issue of DR2 which the trials dragged for way too long. Too much time is spent going over common knowledge. I did really enjoy the sequences before trial 6 with Keebo and the school.

The best of the three, mechanically, story-wise, character-wise, and philosophically. Has good trial minigames that help along the fantastic Trials themselves. Debate Scrum and the Mass Panic Debate are some of the best new additions.

Trial 1 has one of the best twists I've seen. Beautifully executed, and a great introduction to the game. (10/10)
Trial 2 is classic Dangan convoluted, but has one of the goriest executions. (8/10)
Trial 3 sucks as usual. However, funny meme. (5/10)
Trial 4 is fucking crazy. Some of the best voice acting, a crazy mid+trial cliffhanger, and a gutwrenching solution. (10/10)
Trial 5 babyy. This shit rocks. (10/10)
Trial 6 leads into my favorite video game ending of all time. Perfectly encapsulating the spirit of the franchise in a very philosophical way but told through the most mindfucky of methods. (11/10)
