It is embarrassing how much this game has completely taken over my brain space the past 2 months for a ~4 hour playthrough (only Episode 1+2 are available as of this review). The writing in the meme game wasn't supposed to be good goddamnit! Excellent psychological horror following the extreme toxic codependency of two siblings trapped in an apartment starving to death, and the spiraling sequence of events that follow as just about everything in their dysfunctional dynamic explodes at once. It touches upon many taboo and uncomfortable topics, so be prepared for that (murder, cannibalism, decapitation, toxic codependency, incest, abuse, manipulation, neglect, parentification, child death, involuntary manslaughter, demon sacrifice, organ harvesting; is NOT a comprehensive list). The character analysis utterly fascinates me and I haven't written this many essays from debilitating brain worms for years. Andrew ("Andy") and Ashley ("Leyley") are an unfathomably fucked up duo that foil each other extremely well, and it's interesting to take on their perspectives to find yourself horrified if you ever come to understand their reasoning and motivations that stem from their debilitating insecurities, maladaptive copes, neglectful upbringing, and being just awful lol.
I love music boxes so the soundtrack is cozy, and conveys the vibe needed. The art style was why I initially picked up the game, you can tell where it wasn't quite finalized yet in Episode 1, but like with Hello Charlotte, I could stare for hours. Puzzles are very light, the game's about one step removed from being a pure visual novel. Whenever it looks like there's a branching choice, I'd recommend creating a new save below so you can revisit optional scenes or minor route variations you may have missed later. Episode 2 has a major route split near the end.
Kudos to Nemlei for leaving me this utterly conflicted and being unable to talk to anyone about it. It was an achievement after everything, to find myself hoping there'll be at least one ending these two idiots are ok <(;-;<). Looking forward to both Episode 3's!

It's well made, really well mad. I like the story, it's human, in truth I only watched a 2 hour recap of the story, so I haven't actually played the game, but it was a very proper and comprehensive recap. And the story, is good. Really. So much so I'm giving it a 90%. I just really enjoyed it, the banter between characters, the canibalism and especially the cute incest. Andrew is cool and Ashley is cool and hot. What could be improved? More story should be given to me, I don't like it when games aren't completed on release, and especially if I have to wait months for another chapter. Anyway I really really really hope they get a happy ending in which they fuck and the author isn't swayed by public opinion.Updated 3 Weeks Ago

Very well written characters are rare, even rarer are those that make you question whether or not you're rooting for them or not. The whole thing is extremely aware and sincere about what it is without getting edgy, and somehow, the game worms its way under your skin... but you're completely okay with it.Rare indeed.

(Preliminary review based on episodes 1 and 2)The Coffin of Andy and Leyley is a unique and twistedly-interesting adventure game. Although the actual game graphics are simple, they have a lot of charm, and they are more than made up for with the fantastic character art that appears during cutscenes. The adventure elements can be a bit simple, but the focus is a lot more on the story. The story is very dark, in a way where you can't really look away. Based on the first two episodes, I'm certainly excited to see where the game goes.
Overall Score: 8/10

I wanted to play this game for the laughs as it sells itself as a dark humor macabre experience with themes around cannibalism, occultism and incest but he game is actually well written. The main two characters are deranged and broken from a psychological standpoint, but they also feel real in their reasoning and you can half empathize with them before they go crazy with their YOLO anthics. The music is simple but sets the mood properly, the jokes are funny, the art is cute although a bit simple while you play, having a style similar to RPGmaker games which I love the vibe off. The sad part is that at the time of this review, half of the game is missing, as it is being released chapter by chapter, but the team behind the game are giving monthly updates and so far it seems that chapter 3 will not only involve branching paths but also be twice the size of other chaptersUpdated 2 Months Ago

Honestly, Coffin of Andy and Leyley is one of the most insane, borderline psychopathic and dark games I've ever played. The protagonists are quarantined due to some bullshit parasite infection and left to starve until death so to survive they adopt cannibalism and murderous activities. The gameplay is boring but the story makes up for it. The game has been attracting a lot of heat on Twitter and other social media due to one of the story paths being related to incest. People with the mental capacity of a Single cell organism believe that incest is worse than sacrificing their parents' souls to demons and eating their corpses. The way the game handles dialogue pushes player decisions towards the incest ending as the only logical conclusion to the story.
Art style and music are nice as well but the experience would probably be enhanced by having voice actors speak as the protagonists.
I give this highly disturbing and controversial game a generous 7/10.

It's a game that I love to hate and hate to love.I hate it due to the gameplay and just, overall the fucking incest like, it wasn't necessary, why the fuck is it in.
The gameplay is just a damned fetch quest, at this point it would have fitted better if the game was turned into a visual novel.
But on the good side that made me rate it this high, why do I think it's 90%. Visuals, Story, Characters and Songs, they're all just, flat out great and perfected. Story might be the tengent but if you stop and just, mess around with everything around, you can understand real fast how dark and fucked the story is.

Like many, I started hearing about the game only after the "controversy", which only proves that any publicity is good publicity. And it's a decent game honestly, I love the art of it, and I never felt bored playing through it. You can probably "beat" it in a couple hours, but with these types of rpgmaker games, I like inspecting every single item (you should too, some have hilarious prompts and descriptions) and going for every single ending. It's of course popular now because of the gruesome and taboo topics it depicts, but it uses them to explore themes that are in themselves not often comfortable to talk about. The most glaring theme is the codependency of Andrew and Ashley, but there are also glimpses of themes like childhood neglect (the mother often feels indifferent to her kids, and she apologises to Andrew for making him raise Ashley in her stead) and idealisation (Ashley can't move on from "Andy" as much as Andrew keeps telling her to move on). And it's not like Andrew himself "matures" healthily during the course of the game, more so becomes just indifferent to the horrific acts that Ashley puts him through. All these issues weave into each other to create a toxic relationship between the siblings.Overall good experience, I'm knocking the score down a bit though as in its current state, there is still a lot of unexplained elements in the story, and sometimes the juvenile writing style put me off more than helped me enjoy the story, but I'm excited to see what Episode 3 has in store now.

Story 7/10What this story lacks is introducing players to the setting. We get background of the characters but I still don't understand why are they are in the situation they are. Why are they locked in their apartment? What happend to the outside world? Other than that the plot is compeling, it's easy to follow and makes sense. I like the unsettling feel of how they don't seem to think much about eating another human being and settle on it rather quickly. The background snips on them we get do a good job at establishing why they act they way they do. Probably the best part about the plot is explaining their past.
Art 9/10
Great. I love styliziation it has, the dark colors, they backgrounds aren't generic, the characters even if they don't have the most original designs are still distinguishible because of the artystyle.
Characters 7/10
They are very predictible and none of their traits surprised me really they are likable. Though I don't like Leyley so maybe they're not likable. I still enjoyed them and their relationship with each other. Especially in the past flashbacks we got.
Enjoyement 9/10
The plot might've not been the greatest, and I didn't love the characters but overall atmosphere of the game and the setting made it really enjoyable. The game is also short so if you're into horror rpgs I think it's worth picking up.

I'm glad *The Coffin of Andy and Leyley* achieved notoriety for its incestuous undertones (or *overtones,* rather), because it wouldn't have come to my attention otherwise. These depraved siblings are a delight to spend time with. But it would take more than a hot murderer/cannibal/sister/lover/judge/jury/executioner to get me to play this game. What really caught my eye was the striking art style of the character portraits - it was love at first sight. Every time there's an event image, it's an absolute joy to see - the character designs are just that gorgeous.
I adore how this game looks, and I also love how it talks. *Coffin* is dark, irreverent, funny and refreshing. It carries a wit sharper than a meat cleaver, yet it also has a dark and painful underbelly that evokes pathos.
Look, hear me out. I know this game has attracted a lot of flak simply for its twisted themes. It's linear, has little to no loss conditions, and some might say it's not much of a game. But it's an absolute delight to play through because it tells a good story. It made me feel the same way as I feel when I'm reading a book I can't put down - at the end, my only problem was that I couldn't play the rest of it immediately. I eagerly await the next two chapters of this psychotic Bonnie and Clyde story.
