Really cool and unique game with a wonderful soundtrack and storytelling. At times the puzzles were a little hard to understand without guidance, also the environment navigation was sometimes a struggle. Still, a great gaming experience overall!

Look it's a cute game and all, and the meta stuff it does for problem-solving is very creative, but... the game's just too simple. Way, way too simple and boring. No puzzles, just basic adventure game stuff. Only it's split across many different screens WITH NO MAP. It has a fast-travel option, but all the environments blend together, I honestly couldn't tell what locations were what and I was still lost.

I also feel it's a bit manipulative. I know exactly where the story is headed for the ending and I'm not a fan of the last-minute multiple choice system anyway. Just give me a bloody ending. One that is NOT sold as DLC might I add (that's some Asura's Wrath level shit).

Look I respect the game and everything, but I was always convinced I wouldn't be playing it ever again. It's certainly an experience, but I've seen it and been through it many other times in other games that I'm kinda just sick of it tbh. Having no strong gameplay hook certainly doesn't help things either. At least Undertale has a very unique gameplay system that corroborates its themes and messaging.

I should preface this by saying that at the time of this review I haven't done the NG+ playthrough, which apparently gives way more context to the game's world and story. For the game's initial playthrough, though, this was a nice experience. The world is immersive, the major characters are few but memorable, the soundtrack adds to the atmosphere, and the ending really makes you consider the choice you're making. Where the game makes its money though is undoubtedly the fourth wall breaking aspects which add a whole new level of creativity and entertainment to the game and its story. The game is worth the purchase for that alone, but there is a lot more to OneShot that justifies its price tag.

neat game. Plays kinda like a bad point and click adventure but your progress is barred more by exploration instead of difficult puzzles. unfortunate the exploration and talking to NPC's is mostly boring. The game is hard carried by its charm and 4th wall breaking elements. Its has a "no good options ending" which I'm never a huge fan of. but when it comes down to it, its short and sweet and the gimmicks are cool.

PROS
Great overall storyline
Beautiful illustrations
Great character design
Non-repetitive gameplay
Great design of achivements

CONS
Character development felt rushed
Not really a strong antagonist
Limited decisions I as a player can make (especially since, most of the time, none of the options provided represent what I was thinking while playing the game)

I don't really know what to say, great game honestly. One of the most unique games i have ever played. Probably made me have to make one of the hardest choices i have ever had to make in video games. Before Solstice i would have rated this game an 85, maybe a 90, but it brung it up to a 100. If you haven't already, go play it. Also remember, the end isn't the end.

Mid spoilers.

A arte do jogo é bastante bonita e expressiva.

Ok, yes, the story is great, Niko is one of the most lovable protagonists in a game, and I got hit emotionally in a way that, after finishing the Solstice route, I immediately uninstalled the game not out of negativity, but out of respect. There's such an uncommon feeling of finality in it that I couldn't help but let Niko be free from the confines of the game.
... Even if future playthrough would be emulated, in lore.

You only have one shot, after all.

There is one notable aspect of the game I think is often overlooked, and that is the puzzles. Fourth wall breaks aren't unheard of in indie games, but little do they ever implement as being necessary for gameplay progression. Requiring basic knowledge of your computer's file structure and usage of your OS is such a unique gimmick. Embarrassingly, the puzzle that stumped me was when it changes your desktop wallpaper. Simply because I had the clue it'd be on my desktop, and I had my file explorer fullscreened on my second monitor, so I went to where I figured the solution would be; the desktop folder. So the entire time, the ACTUAL desktop was completely obscured. Pure stupidity on my part, but I commend the game for it.

This game is actually amazing, I don't know how many walls past the fourth wall they break in this game buts it's actually sick, the game actually had me getting sad for the NPC's and the World Machine. I love the characters, music and storyline. In the original game I killed the world but kept Niko alive but im glad the Solstice route exists because that was a bit unsatisfying. Thank you devs!!!!!!

Pros: Oneshot has a very compelling story with a mysterious quest to save a decaying world. It sprinkles in very meta elements such as messing with the game window and looking for folders on your computer to keep you interested. The game's atmosphere is one of its greatest strengths. Each main area has a distinct color and the OST gives off a very melancholic/ somber feeling. The puzzles are intuitive and never too difficult. The few times I got stuck were because I missed an area or didn't pay enough attention to a line of dialogue.

The true ending explains all of the mysteries in the game and shows just how meta and unique OneShot is. It built a stronger connection to all of the characters however I still think that 8 hours isn't enough to build a solid emotional connection.

Cons:
The true ending really lets the game shine, but the steps to get it should've been laid out clearer as I gave up on my first time and only found out the solution after my brother's insistence.

Wow, the storytelling is brilliant. The whole concept is something new for me, really emotional game. Gameplay is not the best but the music and characters do their job. Reminds me of Cave Story in terms of graphics and talk boxes. The potential in the players computer is also not used to the full. But I give this game 9/10.

Charming characters, melancholic atmosphere. The childlike innocence and curiosity of Niko was very endearing, and reminded me of being a kid again. Clever 4th wall breaking mechanics. Simple but intriuging lore. Excellent soundtrack and visuals, nostalgic, sad and somewhat hopeful. Echoes of Nier: Automata. Pretty light on gameplay, but the puzzles were decent. Bulk of the content was exploration and dialogue, and the dialogue was well-written. I really love the relationship building between Niko and the player.

OneShot is a melancholy and beautiful RPG-maker game about the end of the world. Featuring a simple yet lovable cast of characters, occasionally frustrating puzzles and a surprisingly deceptive and meta storyline.
It's a really clever video game, but this is a weakness almost as much as a strength. As it tricked many first time players (me included) into thinking they experienced the whole game, when actually the other half is hidden behind secret endings and puzzles buried on your real life desktop. A case, where developers have tested players with smart puzzles but in the proces gatekept some people from a large amount of content they paid for.

A solid entry in the "small child scary world" genre. The narrative hook is that you the player are a distinct entity in the world of the game, separate from the character you're controlling. It's a pretty clever gimmick that's used to contextualize some other gameplay gimmicks that, uh, are reminiscent of the stuff Kojima does. The gameplay is simple, it's mostly an adventure game, a few puzzles here and there. The story is the big draw, which is pretty interesting at times but I wasn't crazy about how it ended.

The presentation is solid, the music in particular is great at setting a tone. The sprite work is simple but pretty effective. There is a weird technical issue where in fullscreen it uses some ugly bilinear scaling. It only looks sharp if you play it in windowed mode. But strangely, certain actions in the game turn off the scaling in fullscreen and use some sort of integer scaling (or maybe it renders the sprites at a high res?). So reading a book in the library fixes the blurry scaling in fullscreen, bizarre.

As far as story, the writing is that straight forward and simple style a lot of indie games fall into. Nothing wrong with that, but it definitely has that problem where characters don't have distinct voices, and are written in such a way that just sounds like the writer's natural style. That's fine, but it's hurt by the fact that the story never gets too *deep*, and it probably could have. Like Undertale, there's a lot going on under the surface, and multiple playthrough are required. But unlike Undertale, the different endings aren't there to make a larger point about interactivity in video games. They just arose naturally from the plot, interesting, but not deep.

The *true* ending in One-shot doesn't feel earned to me, everything just sort of resolves itself without a lot of input from the player. When more lore was being unearthed in the second playthrough while the world fell apart around me, I was invested. When the game turned on a dime and resurrected a bunch of characters to lead the charge towards a happy ending, It lost me.

Overall still a pretty positive experience. It doesn't boast the massive impeccable soundtrack that other games of it's type do, or the deep gameplay or nuanced story. But what's here is pretty good, there's plenty of unique ideas and some good atmosphere.
