I have a... pretty impressive capacity to spoil myself stuff without meaning to do it. It applies to everything, movies, anime, but mostly games.
So, since I refuse to believe I'm the only idiot who does this to himself, I was wondering what games did you guys accidentally ruin for yourselves.

My list would be:
- Persona 4: while reading the comments of a video showcasing the game's anti-piracy measures I found out who the murderer is (and with me currently being only 5 hours in it's a pretty major thing to spoil)
- Borderlands 2: Angel and Roland's deaths while reading the "Reception" section of the game's Wikipedia article
- Bioshock Infinite: a minor case since I had read about Elizabeth being Booker's daughter and drowning him a long while before playing the game and it didn't take anything away from that mindfuck of an ending
- Bioshock Infinite - Burial at Sea Episode 2: Elizabeth dying at the end of Episode 1 from reading the TvTropes page for the game
- Bioshock: Episode 2 pretty much spoiled all the main plot twists of the first game, like Atlas being Fontaine and "would you kindly"
- Doki Doki Literature Club: while watching a Pewdiepie video a meme about Sayori's death appeared, but it didn't really have an effect on the impact it had on me while playing the game
- Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: I don't actually own any of the original 3 games yet but I plan to buy them, though having seen some videos on Youtube I already know how some cases end
There are probably more but these are the ones that come to mind right now.

Assassin's Creed Unity: I was looking for the secret ending to Far Cry 4 and a video about the ending of Unity appeared in my recommended videos afterwards.
I didn´t click on the video itself, but the thumbnail and title were pretty big spoilers. I´m not sure if I would have disliked the game less without this experience, but it certainly didn´t help.

L.A. Noire: Again because of Youtube.

I know how Red Dead Redemption 2 is going to end, but I figured as much and the only thing I really got spoilt on was how it would happen.

I´m usually pretty good at avoiding spoilers. I don´t use social media and I tend to be pretty forgetful about stuff like this.

I used to watch Watchmojo top 10 videos all the time, and this I heard a bunch of spoilers for games I didn’t think I’d ever end up playing. Well end ups I did get around to a lot of those 😅. Here are some of the notable ones I knew ahead of time (mostly thanks to Watchmojo):

Final Fantasy 6
Final Fantasy 7
Chrono Trigger
Earthbound
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Super Metroid
Shadow of the Colossus
Pokémon Black/White

Here are some I haven’t played yet but know some major spoilers...

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Fallout

There are instances where I do know a spoiler, but completely forget I actually know it until it happens.

The Steam achievements for Higurashi spoil major plot twists. I don't understand why they didn't hide their descriptions. It's best not to look at them at all beforehand. I ruined one plot twist for myself because I just wanted to know how many people (percentage) finish that particular chapter of the game.

God of War (2018) while listening to a podcast, before even starting the game. They didn't warn about spoiling the ending, but since I'm not that sensitive to spoilers it was OK.

That's actually really helpful to know, since I was considering picking those games up soon.

Xenoblade Chronicles: A few of the recent Smash Bros games spoiled some major plot points of the first Xenoblade game. It's things that could have easily been left out of Smash Bros too.

Smash has a history of spoiling 😂. I honestly don’t know what the Xenoblade spoilers are, but now that I think about it it definitely spoiled The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Fire Emblem Awakening for me a bit.

Trails in the Sky SC - A certain character's identity. Still a little annoyed at myself for that one
Trails of Cold Steel III - A certain character's new situation and role.
Dragon Quest III - A few things like going down into Alefgard

Tales of Zestiria. There's a major spoiler in the intro itself, and I don't get why they put it there.

For some reason JRPGs seem to love spoiling mid-game stuff in their intros, the Zestiria one just happens to be a bit more obvious than most about what it spoiled.

I´m racking my brain who exactly you´re talking about. Is it Olivert?
I only encountered some minor spoiler when I was researching which game in the Trails series I should start with like how some characters show up in future games, but thankfully nothing major. I hope Olivert has an appearance in Cold Steel, but I don´t want to know for sure until I make it there myself.

You just made me want to jump straight into Trails from Zero after having just wrapped up Trails in the Sky 3rd.

Yeah it was Olivert. The scene is great regardless but I wouldn't have guessed it. It's obvious he's not who he seems. I just hadn't guessed that. Even though the jerk at one point even cracks a joke about being a wandering prince.

Zero and Azure are great! And Geofront did an excellent job localizing Zero. I'm really looking forward to playing their work on Azure and not having to play with a jumble of patches that still result in a sub-par experience ^^;

I was spoiled for Ace Attorney 1 and FFV, but those were deliberate since I was still on and off about getting them. Accidentals were Devil May Cry 5 and Persona 5 while I was just looking up info about them. Devil May Cry doesn’t bother me much but I do wish I had avoided that P5 spoiler. Spent the rest of the game disliking someone because of it. 😅 And really, it would have been such a big reveal if I’d found out naturally.

Gears 5 kinda, basically I attended a webinar that had Mike Stagpole , Marcin Blaca, and finally Bonnie Jean Mah who was a writer for Gears 5. Basically I thought she was just gonna talk about Gears of War 4 since she also did that but nope! I kinda walked into that one but luckily she didn't spoil much.

ugh.

It´s a lot worse if you don´t get spoilt, trust me. It saves you from playing a terrible game.
I had been told before that this game had one of the worst endings in video game history and thought that had to be an exaggeration.
It wasn´t. They were completely right.

Yeah I got spoiled on P4 too, because I was reading the wikipedia article wondering what the changes to P4G were and the major spoil was literally like the first sentence. Annoying, but thankfully I loved it enough to not care.

I mean, it definitely makes the game more awkward for me now since I'm barely 5 hours in and literally managed to die twice at the Yukiko boss.

Just keep on trucking, dw. If you love the social aspect of P4 it's more than worth it to experience all the side quests and stories. Also if you're struggling dont be afraid to give yourself more XP and money in the options, that's what I did lmao.

I finished Zestiria recently, what was the spoiler? Half of the games twists can be seen a mile away.

Wait you can do that? Wow that's... very nice actually, might look into that if I absolutely can't make progress on my own. And yeah, it did take a while for me to start getting invested in the game but I've been enjoying it so far, if anything because the soundtrack is great. Not VA-11 Hall-A or Transistor levels of great but still very good.
Also Marie is precious and I feel like it's my duty to protect her.

The ending was incredibly stupid. I was seriously liking the game, up until then. Thought it might have been up to par with Until Dawn.

I still gave it a 7/10. The rest of the game, other than the last 30 minutes, was really pretty good, in my opinion.

Two that come to mind are Gyakuten Kenji 2 (Ace Attorney Investigations 2) and Persona 5 Royal. P5R wasn't all that bad because I only found out Akechi was the true culprit, and to be fair there are much larger twists beyond that, but it was kind of annoying that it only happened because Twitter decided to show me a "You might enjoy this" fancomic despite the fact that I actively avoided Persona tags so I wouldn't be spoiled.

The GK2 spoiler is one that actually bothers me to this day, because Ace Attorney is one of my favorite franchises and I'm positive that the twist would have blown my mind if I experienced it organically. The context behind the spoiler is also obnoxiously stupid. Basically, I was looking at a Reddit discussion thread about people's favorite characters and someone mentioned (without a spoiler tag) Simon Keyes, followed by a long wall of blocked-off spoiler text. To put this in the least spoilery way possible so that people can still understand why I consider this a spoiler, the character they named is a very surprising choice for "favorite character" in a series that includes fan favorites like Miles Edgeworth and Godot... unless you've already reached the end of GK2. So it's like an indirect spoiler, because it's not hard to put two and two together just from the name when you realize what GK2 is building up to.
