Nominating The Stanley Parable again

So after careful consideration I decided to play the DX version on the switch and then maybe, play the remake if it ever goes on sale again. I found the game to be quite charming, with its pleasant music and adorable characters.

My only gripe is being forced to access the menu every five seconds to equip the required items because of the gameboy's limited button configurations. Honestly, I found it more exhausting than the water temple in OOT.

Nevertheless, great game.

While this site acts a great way to track your backlog, I keep feeling the urge to finish games instead of just enjoying them. Is there anything you do or tell yourself to avoid getting into "I just want to beat this game to move on to the next one."?

Yeah that’s happened to me a bunch of times. After getting a decent amount of progress i tend to check this site or watch playthroughs to know how much more hours i’ve got left to make it to the credits. This makes me focus more on beating the game rather than enjoying it.

What I usually do to prevent this is to go into a game blindly without knowing its length. Don’t check the games total playtime unless you really have to(like making sure you’re getting your money’s worth). That way you don’t get caught up in the “just a few more hours till the end” and just let the end come naturally, or making it easier to drop the game if your not having fun.

I mostly mean no sidescrolling. Overhead or Isometric I think are okay though. I have enjoyed games with overhead/vertical perspectives like bullet hell games and arcade styled stuff.

In fact, Action JRPGs could go good. Mana especially is one of the ones I'm looking at and I played some of Tales of Vesperia and enjoyed it. I am legitimately looking forward to Visions of Mana.

I'll have to give Okami another try. I tried it once and the beginning went on forever and ever which was not a great first impression but I will have to give them a try. Thankfully as well I have my Gamecube Copy of Twilight Princess but I don't know when to get to that.

Overall a really good list! I'll certainly have to play Trials of Mana remake.

WOTW took everything great about TBF and cranked it up to 11. Better combat, better platforming, better movement, better boss fights, better levels and better music. Really hoping we get an Ori 3.

Had to retire Mario 64. Don’t get me wrong its a great game for its time and I respect the impact it had for future 3D platformers, but it hasn’t aged all that well unlike its predecessors. I didn’t mind the blocky graphics all that much, but the controls and camera were just painful.

Yep, he was the cause of most, if not all, my spooks. Isn’t it something how this game can be adorably cute one minute and then flip to downright creepy?

Another game that does the breaks is OneShot. I would say that Undertale was more complex, although there seems to be a fan made sequel mod that’s more toward horror.

I completed this some time ago and really enjoyed it, despite how I was not prepared for the bullet hell sections. I already knew enough about it to have some “warning”, but with how famous it is I wonder if anyone plays it blind these days. If anyone is… I wonder how things went for you after defeating the first boss and then restarting.

Fastest reinstall I’ve ever done in my life.

Besides knowing how notorious Sans boss fight is, I went in blind knowing nothing about its story or characters. The plant FREAKED me out.

Loved this game. Never thought I'd get attached to a bunch of pixelated monsters. Which is what I would say was the strongest point of the game for me, its wonderful cast of lovable monsters. Ironically this game made me feel like I was the monster when doing the genocide route right after beating the game on the true pacifist run coz I really wanted to fight Sans.

My only complaint is the requirements to trigger his boss fight felt a bit too tedious.

Also, this game is smart. The 4th wall breaks were very clever and unexpected(reminds me of ddlc). Let me know if yall know any other games with these kinds of wall breaks.
