If it wasn't for the controls [I think we could or should copy and paste the sentence for each Wii game review], The Shake Dimension would be the best Wario Land game and probably one of the best platformers of its time. It's absolutely gorgeous and today's games still have a lot to learn about it, both in artstyle and game design areas. To be honest, motion control stuff are limited to the bare minimum here [I think this sentence would also work with a lot of Wii reviews, if we were a little more objective. I'm not.], but these gimmicks are tedious enough to damage the whole experience, since The Shake Dimension is far from an easy game. It's okay-ish for the main story, but if you're willing to go for a 100% run, you will have to master the 'tilt' to a near perfect level and that's gonna be a whole different adventure. Because, guess what? It's very hard to master something as floaty and imprecise.

That being said, on a pure mechanic/level design side, the game's almost flawless. It's a great synthesis of everything the Wario Land series was capable of (user-friendly backtracking, brutal platforming, puzzling fever... etc.) I thought this game was the one that killed the franchise in Nintendo's eyes : I obviously was wrong, or if I was right, I have no idea why. The Shake Dimension clearly influenced both NSMB and DKC revivals (not to mention Rayman who definitely borrowed a few ideas over here). So, to this day, I still don't known why Wario Land faded away, but what I know for sure is that this game needs a Switch remaster to let us fully enjoy its awesome ideas. I mean, come on, Nintendo : you did it for an obscure and forgettable Kirby. I know Wario's not as cute, but he's still in the waiting room and clearly needs you.

It is amazing to me how much they put into the animation despite the game not really playing the best. In terms of the core Wario Land aspects it works perfectly fine it’s just the added stereotypical Wii gimmicks, like the tilting to through which never seemed to really work as you’d want it to. Also pretty much every boss is the low point of the area, worst of all being the fish or the final boss which got a bit irritating due to already mentioned faulty throwing mechanics.

Beautiful art-style and animations, levels are decently fun and have a few puzzles strewn in for variety. Tons of replay value as missions often have bonus objectives to complete (Finish the level without taking damage, finish the level without defeating enemies etc.)

Easy for the most part but some of the bosses can pose quite the challenge, I spent an inordinate amount of time on the final boss and was only able to defeat it with max health upgrades and health potions.

A classic "Wario Land" feel, amazing soundtrack and art and some nice levels. Besides some few minor problems like the tedious water levels this is an absolute gem. I enjoyed this a lot and can highly recommend it especially if you liked Wario Land 4

A super charming soundtrack and art style but just didn't catch me with the gameplay loop.

Fun and challenging platforming, beautiful art style, but sometimes unfair difficulty and hit-and-miss bosses

It's... good. But not much more than that in my opinion. The artstyle is great, and wario controls very well. My main issue is with the level design and structure of the game. I would recommend you play wario land 4 instead.

Where do I begin?! WarioLand Shake It is one of those games that I as a lifelong gamer will never forget; hand drawn sprites, phenomenal music even including remixed scores from previous Wario titles and memorable boss battles that had me coming for more. This is just one of those games that deserves way more attention than it gets and to be quite honest it's my favorite game on the Wii.

Great platformer hampered by motion controls

This game has an absolutely PHENOMENAL aesthetic. This is one of the most gorgeous hand-drawn art styles this side of Rayman Origins, and the funk style music is very refreshing to the platformer genre.

I also applaud the physics in the game. No faux-realistic slides and stops (except on ice); the game accepts its cartoony quality and builds the game on an engine based on what works rather than what "makes sense."

Unfortunately, it doesn't all control perfectly. As much of a proponent as I am for the Wii's motion controls, they simply don't work well here. They're accurate, sure... just not fun. Shaking is unreliable, and tilt controls--especially in the wretched submarine levels--are just abysmal.

The level design is also pretty bad. Levels get better as they go on, but in the first few worlds there is almost no variety. It's all the same backgrounds, same obstacles. There is about one new idea or vehicle introduced per world, but generally they're only used in one level and they're never seen again. The whole game is generally not fulfilling.

Bosses also suck. There's just no way around it. Bloomsday Blowout and Large Fry have terrible patterns, and the final boss has random electrical shots that don't disappear by the time you need to do a combo on the boss.

I commend the developers for trying to mix up the typical 2D platforming design philosophy, but going all the way back through the level after you've essentially completed it is just a chore.

So it's a very pretty game, and fun in between the lines. But it's very boring at the beginning, bland in the middle, and shrug-worthy by the end.

Easily the worst Wario game that I have played. What ruined it for me was having to farm coins between worlds due to being required to buy the expensive world maps just to continue the game. The levels were not very interesting, especially compared to the sprawling levels of Wario Land 4. The music was good, and there are some challenging boss battles, but this is not one of the better platformers on the Wii.

Absolutely gorgeous platformer with disturbingly good level design. If you play it without trying to finish any missions, you won't think anything of the game. If you do go for 100%, get ready to be amazed by how such a simplistic game gets so complicated by the addition of minor tweaks. Game designers interested in making a platformer: do not miss out on this one!

Wario Land: Shake It! is a great new platformer with
truly old-school
ideals. So if you grew up playing and loving the
classics, rest assured
that you will love this game, too. It's got its share
of modest
shortcomings. It's not very innovative -- you've seen
all this before in
other platformers. The lack of a proper widescreen
mode is downright
annoying. And the core game is over a little too
quickly for my liking.
But, you know, it's still a really fun experience
thanks to excellent
control and fantastic level designs, not to mention a
beautiful visual
presentation. And even if you can reach the end
without much
resistance, completing all of the numerous secondary
goals per level is
an altogether different story, a truth that will
definitely keep you
coming back for more. If you are at all a fan of
platformers, do yourself
a favor and add this one to your collection. You'll be
happy you did.
