I really enjoyed this game and the world build up. Sure, Assassin's Creed: Origins has better characters, but it doesn't mean that Odyssey is a bad game. I do not understand the hate people are giving next-gen Assassin's Creed games.Updated 4 Days Ago

Years ago, I finished Assassin's Creed Origins, enjoyed my time with it, but also thought I would not really want to play a similar type of game again. A serious discount made me reconsider, and I'm glad, because while everything - setting, far less naval travelling, world size - pointed towards Origins being the most suitable of the Assassin's Creed action RPG games for me, I genuinely found Odyssey the more enjoyable experience overall.A lot of the heavy lifting there is done by the exploration aspect of the game. I genuinely enjoyed walking around the ancient Greek world that Ubisoft had created, to the point that I eventually only used fast travel to avoid travelling by sea. Visual design does quite a bit to make travelling these islands so enjoyable, but the very fact that Greece consists of so many islands makes traversal so much easier than it was in Origins. If you enjoy leisurely exploring the world as much I do, it is very unlikely that you hit a level-gating wall like so many people would in Origins. It's technically still possible, since the hard numbers exist, and taking on enemies more than two or three levels higher than you is still a suicide mission, but if you let your curiosity guide you through everything there is on the islands, you are almost guaranteed to never be underlevelled.
Combat has also been improved, to the point where it actually feels like you have a degree of control over what your character is doing. There are still some design choices I disagree with in principle - most prominently, I think stealth assassinations should be immediate kills no matter what - but the attack, block, dodge and parry mechanics have been incorporated well enough for a mildly "Dark Souls, but not as hard" experience. Where combat is often a chore in Assassin's Creed games, it actually felt like a natural part of the game this time around. Which does go at the expense of the stealth mechanics, but that isn't as much of an issue as expected.
The latter can also be said, to a lesser degree, about the naval combat. While I'm still not a fan of sea travel in video games, and it still feels kind of slow and clunky, it is at least far better developed than it was in Origins, where it really felt shoehorned in and it was a very unwelcome distraction. Also, Barnabas' enthusiasm and tall tales are a surprisingly effective means against the relative boredom of sailing the Aegean Sea. Naval combat feels a bit underwhelming until you can actually commence boarding, but not annoyingly so.
One thing that I think would have made the game better is all the islands being an integral part of the story. Some of the islands you visit (such as Mykonos, Naxos, Keos, and Pephka) actually have quite elaborate backstories or are woven into the main plot, but some of the other islands are basically just there. Of course, stories take up disk space, but it's not like the main story is so great that the developers couldn't have sacrificed a few chapters of it.
Speaking of which, I have never been a fan of strict dialogue options that greatly impact the development of a story further down the line. I realize that this is an unavoidable aspect of Assassin's Creed Odyssey being an action RPG first and foremost, and I generally don't care that much about stories in games in general, but there was a character that I would have loved to have saved, except to do so, I had to have picked one different dialogue option literally dozens of hours ago when I didn't have enough information to know what would happen tens of hours later. This might not be an issue for everyone, but to me, it was another thing that annoyed me about the writing, on top of the fact that most of the side stories in the game are far more entertaining than the main story.
Fans of the series might also be annoyed that the story is enough of a prequel to not actually be an Assassin's Creed game. However, as a more casual player, I found it fairly easy to let that go and basically just accept it as a one-off game that happens to have a lot in common with the gameplay and design of Assassin's Creed Origins. In a way, the game is better at the deviations from the norm than it is at the traditional elements of the franchise. As always, I genuinely think the game would have been better off without the modern-day plot, and with the main story being so far removed from the rest of the series, it might as well just not have been there.
Overall though, I really enjoyed most of the 140-plus hours I spent with Assassin's Creed Odyssey. The moment-to-moment gameplay packs a quicker pace than most games in the series, the controls are generally smooth and pleasant, and some of the characters - though not necessarily the overall story - are well-written enough to keep me interested in the next chapters. By no means a perfect game, but definitely one of the better games I played in the series.

PROS: Beautiful scenery and pretty good gameplay.CONS: Way too long. Irrelevant and pointless ending with a 15-minute cut scene you can't skip through. Progression is HIDDEN behind side quests... making them NOT optional, making them NOT side quests. And you don't know WHICH side quests will lead to progression so you're basically forced to non-essential side quests. TERRIBLE game design. No connection to the wide cast of characters, some of whom have 20, 40, or 60 hours of content between meeting them. Engraving and weapon upgrade system feels pointless.

Good game, but doesn't feel like Assassin's creed anymoreGood
- large detailed open world
- beautiful environment
- A lot of missions
- most missions are pretty interesting
- pretty good scripting for characters
- can be stealth, or aggro
Bad
- lost touch with classic assassin's creed
- little relation between present day and the past
- no emphasis between templar and assassin fight
- too many side missions
- leveling is too slow
- you actually have to grind a lot

This game is good for storytelling game for who want learn/know about Greek, like Greek Gods&Myth, explore world and see many Greek Monument/Temple. But this game bad for Assassin's Game🙃I know this game is RPG but I don't see any vibe of Assassin Creed game in this series even my gears all in in Assassin Damage. Main Story is acutally short but soo complicated and not perfect at all. Gameplay overall enyojed and the combat, cutscene, expression & animation is cluncky. score for me 7,1/10Updated 3 Weeks Ago

The game feels very grindy (which I can understand is the point of an open world RPG). I like the time period and what they did with the game but I felt like I was running around a lot and that side quests and going for everything was such an ordeal. The side quests can get repetitive and long as they take you all around the map. Overall though, I am enjoying playing it while my partner plays Hogwarts LegacyUpdated 3.5 Weeks Ago

Pretty good, waaay bette than the slog that was "Origins", Kassandra is a charismatic main character, the gameplay loop was kinda fun and the boss battles against mithological creatures was great. The map is huuuge, almost too huge, there is always something to see and when there isn't, the ambiance is awesome for itself.
Overall a solid entry after a lot of mid in the series.

This game has a serious dropoff issue. I remember getting through a lot of the game really easily and in a fun way back in 2019 (yes, I played this game at launch and still haven't finished). Going from land to land, quest to quest and having a genuinely fun time. I actually don't mind that this isn't really an assassin Assassin's Creed game because I was having a blast roleplaying as Kassandra. Actually, there's a lot of areas (like in forts and leader's houses) where you can actually sneak around more than be a brute. The issue is, once you get to the Sparta quests and meet your family, the game gets so slow. You can tell you're at the end of the main story but the quests suddenly get much harder in level and more tedious with many subquests to pad out the end. Additionally, more the DLC's quests start too so you get pulled into new stories while trying to finish this one. I dropped the game soon after and tried again and again to get back in to just finish the game once and for all. It's been years and I still haven't. I think seeing how much longer this game takes to beat vs the traditional AC games from 1 to Syndicate, this game pads out so much more due to how large the world is, how many quests are in each area, and how many subquests or quest chains there are. On one hand, it's an amazing time to learn the stories of the people and explore Greece as a strong and fun hero that joins the ranks of Ezio and Arno, but on the other hand this game is near impossible to 100% and still difficult to simply complete. I have yet to play Origins and Valhalla but I fear that these three new games are simply bloated. Mirage may actually be a return to form in more ways than one.Updated 2.5 Months Ago

The combat is good and favourable. The humor is good mostly. Some missions are really good but most of them have preconditions and preconditions are boring. I am standing there to kill the minatour but a little kid tells me to find and speak to 3 40+ yo boring men. Bugs and glitches are there if you look for them but in the 60 hours i have played i didn't see a fatal bug. Shortly a good combat game with sometimes good sometimes filler quests. You can get 2 hours of fun or 2 hours of boredom in every game session. Even so it is addictive.Updated 3 Months Ago

I love Kassandra. Her mocap was done really well, and I enjoyed her performance in every piece of dialogue.- Story: 9/10 (main quest is about 8/10 but side quest content is 10/10 - Witcher 3 quality)
- Gameplay: 10/10
- Combat: 9/10 - very forgiving in parrying. But very, very satisfying.
- Cast: 10/10. So many interesting characters with their own dilemmas. Hippokrates, Sokrates, Alkibiades, Phoibe, etc.
The game is very immersive and appreciates Greek civilization and mythology. It should be GOTY 2018 instead of GOW, which I don't like for its clunky narrative. I had fun in AC Odyssey (sad, laugh, exciting moments), but I did not have fun with GOW.

To me, the best Assassin's Creed. I know that there is a lot saying that the RPG trilogy is not AC, but I enjoyed (a lot) this game. First time I played was in december 2018 (xbox one). This year (2024), I started playing on PC, with all the DLCs this time, and the game is marvelous. Between Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla (I played all three), Odyssey is the best in gameplay/story/world. Is not a perfect game, it is a Ubisoft game, so has some bugs and a LOT of missions that are the same. But Greece, Athena v Sparta, how not to love it? 100% on Steam. Main Story is good, not fantastic, but enjoyable. The conquest battles and hunt all the cult members are great. The Legacy of the First Blade DLC its okay, at best. It introduces a new skill and another cult to hunt and that's it. Now, the Fate of Atlantis is a beauty. Introducing new maps, improvement of skills, heroes/mithologycal creatures to fight. I give a 9/10 to the game, is not perfect, it is a tiring game sometimes, but to me is one of the best games that I played just because of the scenario. Note: If you never played the AC RPG trilogy, I recommend you start with Origins. I started with Odyssey and I didn't enjoyed Origins/Valhalla that much because of the features that Odyssey has.Updated 4 Months Ago

This is my first AC game so I don't have anything to compare it to. The graphics and the general world are absolutely beautiful, this game looks incredibly good. If the rest of the game were as good as it looks I think this game could be a 10/10, but obviously there are some issues. The length of the game is quite long, and it seems like this was done somewhat artificially, meaning there is a good amount of bloat. I enjoyed the story a fair bit, it was decent, however there are other parts of the story that are just generally uninteresting, and you are forced to go through somewhat boring and uninteresting content to progress through the main story. Many times throughout my playthrough I would just start skipping the dialogue because of how boring it was, at times the dialogue was really nice and I enjoyed it, but other times I just wanted it to be over. The world is massive, and while that contributes to the beauty of it, also contributes heavily to my lack of enjoyment. My least favorite thing in open world games is traveling long distances to get from quest to quest and this game has a lot of it. Listen, I am an ADHD gamer, if a game has stuff like this I WILL put up a video on my other monitor to keep me entertained, and that significantly lessens my immersion in the game.
The combat is okay, but over such a long period of time it becomes kind of bad. I found it to become extremely repetitive and uninteresting especially given the fact that you can only use 4 abilities at a time, many of them being situationally dependent so you only actually have 2 or 3 skills that you are going to use while fighting.
The story is simply put decent, and I think the ending was very lackluster although I still got my enjoyment out of it. For the amount of content that this game provides, it's certainly worth it. At first I wanted to continue playing and make it through the Atlantis questline, but having to do all of this micro-quests to progress really turned me off and that seems quite unlikely now.
All in all, the game is good with a decent amount of grind. You will probably have to do side quests to get to a high enough level to continue the main quests which isn't too big of an issue considering the side quests are actually pretty good. I really wished the story would have strung everything together a little bit more because it feels like some characters are just extremely irrelevant and disregarded while others just simply end up becoming irrelevant through death.

Same situation as origins, with compelling environments and world, with decent enough story but too much bloat/repetitiveness.Controls still feel lacking like in origins, although slightly smoother.
Combat improved from origins (though still mediocre), but locations are less thematically unique than ancient Egypt.
I cannot believe the core assassination gameplay did not improve, and still remains worse than older games...

Where do I even start with Assassin's Creed Odyssey? This game, folks, has been an absolute whirlwind of an adventure, and I'm here to tell you all about it, from the sprawling landscapes of ancient Greece to the compelling journey of arguably the series' most charismatic protagonist yet, Kassandra. Yes, Alexios is cool and all, but Kassandra steals the show with her strength, wit, and sheer magnetism. And with that, I'm dropping a solid 90% score for this epic saga.First off, the world Ubisoft has crafted here is nothing short of breathtaking. The attention to detail in recreating ancient Greece is staggering. From the azure waters of the Aegean Sea to the majestic peaks of Mount Olympus, every inch of the game's world is a feast for the eyes. It's not just a backdrop for the story; it's a character in its own right, rich with history and mystery, inviting you to explore every hidden corner and secret it holds.
And let's talk about the gameplay because Odyssey has refined and expanded the Assassin's Creed formula to new heights. The RPG elements introduced here allow for a level of customization and personalization that feels genuinely impactful. Every choice you make, from the dialogue options to the combat skills you prioritize, shapes your journey and your version of Kassandra. Speaking of combat, it's as fluid and engaging as ever, with a variety of weapons and abilities that keep encounters fresh and exciting.
Now, about Kassandra. What a protagonist! Her journey from a disgraced Spartan outcast to a legendary hero is not only epic in scope but also deeply personal. Her charisma, courage, and complexity make her a character you can't help but root for. The voice acting is top-notch, bringing her personality and emotions to life in a way that's both compelling and relatable.
Of course, no game is without its flaws. Some of the side quests can feel a bit repetitive, and there are moments when the sheer scale of the game can be overwhelming. But these are minor gripes in an otherwise stellar experience. Assassin's Creed Odyssey is a bold, beautiful, and ambitious game that delivers an unforgettable journey through one of history's most fascinating eras.
In summary, Assassin's Creed Odyssey is a must-play for fans of the series and newcomers alike. It's a game that combines breathtaking visuals, deep and engaging gameplay, and a story that's both epic and intimate. Kassandra, with her charm and strength, stands out as a protagonist who will be remembered for years to come. So, grab your spear and your shield; the world of ancient Greece awaits, and it's an adventure worth taking.

I understand that some people might be tired of the formula cause this game was really similar to Origins, to the point that it could have been a DLC, and that some other people felt betrayed cause this isnt what Assassins Creed was and its more like "The Witcher" instead. But honestly, this was my first game of the saga and i also love Greece, so if we analyze the game as a standalone product, there arent many real cons, aside from the classic ubisoft problems that persist in every single piece of media they make.

Not sure why I spend so much time on this game. I loved the atmosphere and the Greek stuff in game.
story was fairly engaging, but incoherent with choices i made for example i didn't kill my father but the other characters talk like i did
But after 20 hour mark the combat became quite boring. The missions had massive recommended levels, which made the game grindy. Kept on fighting npc after npcs, merchants after merchants.
The final straw was when they dropped me in the modern world which broke the entire atmosphere. I walked around aimlessly only to realize I just needed to interact with a machine to go back. Why put me there if there isn't anything to do in the first place?

AC Odyssey is a fun, action-packed AC game based in Ancient Greece. Kassandra is a compelling character and I enjoyed my journey through ancient Greece with her (sailing was especially fun). The map is gorgeous and there's plenty of side-activities to do, lots of cool armour and weaponry to collect. That being said, I found the story and dialogue to be lacklustre at time, romances were quite shallow, the prolonged story made me lose track of the characters.
