I never could have anticipated such an extraordinary game. Valhalla is an absolute gem in the Assassin's Creed series—gorgeous, captivating, and truly one-of-a-kind. It's the freshest title the series has seen, delivering an experience unlike any of its predecessors. Valhalla retains everything that was done right in Origins and Odyssey, while completely overhauling the elements that didn't work, replacing them with so much more. The combat is brutally intense and deeply engaging, the world is vast, and the story is simply breathtaking. It looks stunning, though it’s unfortunate that frequent graphical and game-breaking bugs mar the experience. Without them, this game could easily reach near-perfection. The characters, voice acting, music, and gameplay loop are all leagues above previous entries in the series. With just a bit of fine-tuning on the pacing and game length, it would be perfect. After 100+ hours of play, I can confidently say that Valhalla is an unforgettable experience. Take your time and let yourself get completely lost in this masterfully crafted world.

Finally completed this massive game. Completed the main story with all the sides. Wrath of The Druids main story and every side and Siege of Paris main story and every side, (apart from level 4 infamy, snooze fest with the rebel missions). I do have The Dawn of Ragnarök DLC but I think I've pretty much seen all this game has to offer for my enjoyment. As many people say and i agree with this, this is a good game, not a good 'AC' game. If you play this as a AC game you will not have fun but as a regular RPG it holds up. Typical Ubisoft stuff to do with a collection grind only the brave take on.

Good
- QTE assassination is a great addition. Allows players with good mechanical skills to stealth kill without having to grind levels.
- the mythical arc setting is beautiful.
- the combat felt good for the most part. Parry, perfect dodge, and attack is what i like.
- stealth gameplay was good for the most part. It is harder than usual though.
- the abilities were interesting
- the sigurd/evior story arc was great. Completely wasn't what I expected.
- the dialogue choices were well implemented. There were actually consequences to your choices, some small some big.

Bad
- very anti-climatic ending. Pacifying all of England should lead to a grand ending cutscene. At least ending credits.
- half the story arcs feel like fillers. They hardly tie in with the main plot, and half the characters you meet there are forgettable. The pacing of the main story was terrible.
- too many collectables. The map looks like a rav party cause of all the markers.
- the missions are very repetitive. Go to an area, meet some people, overthrow some people, and report to randvi. Carry a person here, rescue some prisoners here, burn some houses here, clear out soldiers here. Presentation is also very repetitive.
- traveling becomes tedious. The quick travel points are rarely close to the places you need to go, thus you must summon your horse, which you can't always do, as there are rivers and lack of roads on the way.
- distrust areas are annoying, it becomes tedious to get around town when you have to climb roof tops and lure drunks so often. Or get detected and make a detour.
- stunning enemies is inconsistent.
- much of the map looks too much the same. The snow areas and mythical areas were the only one's different, everything else is just autumn parries, and hay villages.
- sometimes it can be hard to see the haystack when trying to leap of faith from a sync point.
- the little puzzles get repetitive, like barred doors, and blocked doors. The solution is almost always the same or very similar.
- the game is quite buggy. It froze on me at least 5-10 times. And other times, music loop bug, visual, or dialogue bug had forced me to reload.
- the character animations and facial expressions looks very awkward sometimes. Not counting the glitches, it's literally just poor design, which kills the immersion.
- to understand the ending, the player needed to finish the mythical arcs. But the mythical arcs aren't mandatory. I missed out on the 2nd mythical art and was a bit confused in the ending. If a quest was important to the ending, the devs should have made it mandatory. It could have replaced almost any of the pointless alliance arcs.

The more time gets wasted in the game and exporing its filling, that is, repetative objectives, uninteresting quests and so on, the more tedious the game itself is felt. Something heartwarming or memorable is rare. All at once, I'd reached my limit of bearing it and dropped the one. No person is recommended to play this neverending, boring piece of 'greatness'. It's really bad.

I have always wanted an AC game in England and it was an absolute pleasure. It took me 203 hours to compete the main campaign and all possible collectibles and locations, and activities. The graphics and world design are the best yet, though not as exotic as ancient Greece or Egypt, I was stuck by how massive the game is and how good it looks on the series x. I do think that the combat was slightly better in Odyssey, and the story of Eivor and the Norse gods was great, and I loved to see the mythology brought into the AC universe, I wanted more fantasy per-cursor stuff and abstergo modern stuff.

Overall, AC Valhalla was a good game, but not an excellent one.

Graphics and visual aspects: 9/10

Graphics were great and visually the game was fantastic.

Story and quests 7/10

Story was far fragmented and hardly followed the themes of Assassins' Creed franchise. In general the quests were somewhat creative, especially the side quests, but the narrative did not require such many quests. The amount of main storyline quests could have been reduced a lot and the focus should have been on the Assassins' Creed's storyline.

Character gear and levelling: 7/10

I actually liked the way you conduct the levelling and that you don't have too much different gear. However, a lot of the gear was behind paywall which is a practice I consider something that should not exist in gaming when the gear is clearly applicable to the story. Some out of the context skins etc. are fine to be excluded from the game in my opinion.

Characters 6/10

Some of the characters were funny and interesting but overall I found the characters to be hard to relate to and sometimes even meaningless. The character you play with was bland and lacked any aspect that would link it to the Assassins' Creed story. The Viking theme was nice but could have been given much more nuanced approach.

Fun for a while until it gets super repetitive with perhaps the weirdest, most confusing storyline I've had to play through. I still don't know what the goal is. The alliances seem completely pointless. Eivor is honestly a pretty boring character, especially for a protagonist. The combat is fun and there are many different ways to play. The open world is very nice. The collector in me enjoys the fact that there are so many different things to collect in the world. The repetitive nature of it did get old, however. I lost pretty much any motivation to keep playing with there being no end in sight to an insanely boring story.

This review contains spoilers

Ubisoft has in the past years been going down a slope of mediocre games that it seems to never get out of. It's not that I don't like some of the RPG elements. I still think origins is a good game. What makes Valhalla a disappointment is that it has gone too far from being Assassin's Creed that I don't recognize it anymore. Never once did I think I played an Assassin's creed game. It's sad because I think the historical setting is interesting and being from Sweden makes a viking main character very fun. In theory! What i got was the same mission over and over with a new coat over it. Go there and take it over, now go to this place and take it over in the same way.

Now that the bad things have been dealt with, let's go to the good things. i really enjoyed the some of the locations, it makes me wish for a game set in the roman empire, and Basim. Basim has been the most enjoyable villain for me since Haytham and having a whole game with him explaining everything makes Basim even better. That they actually took time to make a villain that is not just evil because they are a templar and is more complex than that. He isn't just evil. He is a good person with morals, and what he does is what he thinks is right or rather what Loki thinks is right, and when he knows he made a mistake he owns up to it. Making him the new modern world main character was a good choice because Layla was the most boring piece of a character ever. The graphics are good. Nothing to write home about but not bad either.

To summarize I think this game is a show of what Ubisoft is now. Trying the bare minimum to sell a game for 70 dollars and have it on a sale for half off in a few months. It's sad because I like Assassin's Creed, I want to like it, but I can't pretend that this isn't a waste of great potential because it is. I wish they would sit down and take their time with it and really listen to their fans and make a great game again. Because I know they can.

Me desquicia.

Assassins Creed Valhalla! Wow what a game and what a journey. This one felt like it took me forever. Life has picked up and work, but overall I still tried to devote time to moving forward because this can easily turn into a very long game. I was lucky to get through it with relative ease. I did have some pain points I wanted to bring forth and there were some huge bonuses in it as well toward the end.

But before I jump into the good and the bad I want to preface this with the fact that I have played the other two AC RPGs. Odyssey and Origins. I thought Origins was fine, it was good pace, and the overall was not a bad game. I had an awful time with Odyssey please see my review for my major pain points but the largest one was pacing and bloat.

Starting out the pain I had with Odyssey of the pacing and the bloat was kind of here but made better. The game is separated into Arcs. Where you don't feel like you are going from one mission to the other now it feels like we are going from Arc to another. It is a much better way to digest the game which is one of the reasons I felt so good actually playing the game for such a long time. There was bloat as you can see from the 100% time of this game but it is almost all optional, they don't force you to play a certain way until the very end of the game which I will get into.

I do want to point out that the writing in this game was overall fine but really took a huge pick up toward the end of the game and special shout out to King Aelfred for being such a badass and cool written character. In the end, the pacing was a huge improvement, the game didn't not feel bloated even if there was plenty of it, the gameplay overall got to be a little annoying and tedious but it worked out.

Now I do have two huge things I want to talk about, the first one being the final Arc in order to go to that location you need to be level 340~ I had to do it at ~270 because I had no other quest I wanted to do, this was an issue with odyssey as well, where they force you to level up, luckily I could still do the location after a little grinding but it is so frustrating to be forced to do tasks and missions you don't want to just to level.

That was my only big criticism, was kind of a lack of direction. I got to a point in the game where you are supposed to assassinate two targets but I never did. So I finished out all the quests I had and realized I had nothing left to do?! Finally went on to assassinate those targets and low and behold there is the next arc. That is what I mean by pacing was better but just not there, they almost give you too much restricted freedom? Like with an open world game you can go anywhere and do anything and at the end of the day you have a goal, but with this game you are not 100% sure where or what you should be doing unless you are in an arc.

At the end of the day This game was close to being perfect and both did great and fell off at the end of it. I understand why so many people don't finish the game now because it gets better and worse at the end. Giving a final review of 6/10, if you enjoyed the other AC:RPGs this is a must play but otherwise maybe do some homework to see if you might like it.

Beautiful game with combat now being significantly improved over origins & odyssey (skill system).

It feels less & less like an AC game, becoming just another open-world action rpg.

That said, the smoother combat helps AC Valhalla find a stronger identity, as compared to origins/odyssey which fails in fleshing out both open-world action combat & assassin gameplay.

Valhalla is a thrilling 100-hour long Viking adventure filled with raiding, conquering, and carving a life out of the treacherous, feral countryside of middle England that is absolutely jam packed into a glistening 200-hour long AAA blockbuster. What’s there is good…it’s just twice as big as it needs to be and has 50% more mini-content than it should. If you can activate your cognitive dissonance and tell yourself “This is NOT Assassin’s Creed,” it is a pretty decent game.
--------------------

Valhalla is easily the most ambitious and expansive entry into the Assassin’s Creed franchise. This is both a strength and a weakness. Valhalla is HUGE with tons of side quests, mini-objectives, and countless nooks and crannies to explore. The problem is the “real” content for Valhalla is actually less than Odyssey. No matter how big the bowl is, a cup of soup is still only a cup. Putting a cup of soup into a fish tank doesn’t do anyone any good. Plus, it’s really hard to eat…you have to really reach in…and scrape and scrape to get enough good stuff to be worth a bite.

While a bit of an exaggeration, the point is valid. There is too much space…too many mini-objectives…you can literally lose where you are in the game. I finished the game in a little over 200 h, and I swear there was at least one point where I went 40 h without a single dialog in the main story (a “week of work” on the game without hitting the story…really?). I was probably 60 h in before I realized that the Assassin in my town and Basim were 2 different people.

Ok, so it’s big and there are a lot of fiddly things to do (destroy corrupt alters, hidden chests, get high on mushrooms, etc.). I’ll admit, I like exploring and finding all the things. Cleaning out the map of mini-objectives and side quests is pretty Zen for me, it’s my Marie Kondo. This kept me going for quite a while on Valhalla but even I got really, really tired of all the side objectives.

The side content isn’t bad…it’s just kinda mediocre. Plus, it lacks the romance of the Peloponnesian War (Odyssey) or the mystique of ancient Egypt (Origins). Valhalla tries to spice up the blandness of Dark Ages England with Vikings!…but there is only so much pepper you can add to a cup of soup…served in a fish tank.

The main story was really good. It is well written with engaging characters, and it isn’t immediately obvious where the story is going. Once I started the ball rolling on the story, it really reinvigorated my gameplay. Gameplay is mostly intuitive and pretty fun. The parkour mechanics are a little clunkier than recent AC games…but that really isn’t the point here so I was able to forgive Valhalla on that front.

As an Assassin’s Creed game, Valhalla is downright terrible. The atmosphere is totally wrong. Eivor is an estranged warrior carving out a frontier life for themself and their people (literally and figuratively)…not a secret agent wresting justice from the jaws of the powerful and corrupt. Then the game ham-fistedly introduces the Order of Ancients and rams it down your throat screaming “THIS…IS…ASSASSIN’S CREED!!!”. Half way through the kill list and I still didn’t know why I should really hate these guys enough to go out of my way and risk myself to murder them.

I know I sound pretty down on Valhalla but that’s because it’s hard to pump up a majority of the game because it is pretty mid-grade. Good gameplay, really good story, medium-grade filler…just cut the map in half and remove about a third of the mini-objectives and you have a pretty decent 100-120 hour game.

Soulless, uninspired story.
Characters are cardboard cut-outs.
Main Character is a charisma vacuum.
Character progression ? Bloated nightmare.
Gameplay... They managed to mess up the gameplay. It's the first game, in my memory, where the developers all but force you to use the "Auto-travel" button due to the enormous lengths you have to travel to complete quests. Why not add an auto-play button and let the game play itself then ?
