NOTA 8.0/10Updated 1 Week Ago

I got kinda bored after a while. Some of the fights were really cheap and frustrating. Overall a decent game though. *Edit* I talked to a friend of mine who finished the game and it turns out you can get extra stims! somehow I missed all of them and played through the whole game with only 2 stims. Maybe some of the fights would not seem as cheap if I wasn't playing on super hard mode LOL.

Really fun game. Story is kinda a collection of star wars tropes and seems to borrow a lot from the last jedi surprisingly, which is fine by me more or less. I wish it was more original though. I remember seeing in an interview that rebels and rogue one were inspirations, but that may be more from an art design perspective rather than actual story. Aside from a shoehorned darth vader sequence at the end.Gameplay is kinda like easy Sekiro. Which is cool, but playing these games after Sekiro makes it a lot less interesting to play. The game has its place, and my playthrough was great. But I've kinda outgrown star wars, and the sequel to this game hasn't really grabbed me as much

Fallen Order is a really engaging game with great combat and exploration. The game fits perfectly into the Star Wars universe, and the planets are all pretty great. The characters are too. The main group is all brought together by different motivations and that makes it interesting when they dont see eye to eye on every problem. If you’re a Star Wars fan i highly recommend the game!Updated 3 Weeks Ago

It is a Metroidvania game with mostly linear progress, classic 3rd person sword fighting action, and a slight hint of Sekiro flavor. Definitely not a souls-like though. Completionist run is not rewarding much, especially the collectibles. Backtracking is a chore in linear maps, even though there are shortcuts at certain points. I was bored at first, since I was trying to do a completionist run, but then I let it go and had more fun in the rest of the game. The story is good as far as Star Wars style goes, biomes are memorable and rich, and boss encounters are not many but, again, memorable. Visuals are just enough quality and are very optimized performance-wise. The sound is great. It has no replay value, there is no "specific build" system as you get most of the powers before finishing the game. It is one of the games that does not overstay its welcome. It may not deserve a 9 per se, still, it is a worthy effort.Updated 1 Month Ago

I thought that this game was a lot of fun but found it really repetitive in some aspects, like go to a planet fight some people get some help or info then go to the next. The best thing for me about this game had to be the story line and the voice actors behind it. The games cast and VA are great,
The surprises that came from this game were fantastic especially at the end.

"Oh wow, he's giving another great game a super low score? Yep that seems like him, classic Nintendo bias showing again..." Ok so I feel like I've gotta remind everyone here that a six is a positive score. A six means I at the *VERY LEAST* liked the game. And I liked a whole lot about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. There was a lot in this title that really was compelling. Here's the problem, if this game had absolutely zero problems, the best version of itself is like an 8 out of 10. It's a very bog standard story told fine enough but it breaks no new ground. The level design is the definition of just good enough. Sometimes the player can get lost and often times the metroidvania aspects and exploration are almost discouraged for the sake of preogression, but again, there's no glaring issues with any of the main mechanics here. The problem with Fallen Order is that once you pass the 6 hour mark, the entire game loses any sense of polish that it ever had. Settings don't apply correctly, backgrounds and animations don't load properly, enemies will have wildly inconsistent behavior patterns with what's worse, changing hitboxes for their attacks, and general immersion is constantly broken by an onslaught of random bugs and glitches. For the last 5 hours of gamelay, every cutscene's audio syncing became shifted, causing moments to not land and create a really awkward scene to watch while playing. Controls can often times be slippery and unresponsive. The worst part about all of this is that I'm playing the PS5 upgrade version, which is advertised to be this huge jump from the original and was advertised to be the definitive way to play. If this is the definitive patch, I am *TERRIFIED* to see what the original looked like. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is the peak definition of death by a thousand cuts. A perfectly good game, maybe even great game, brought down so significantly by all of the non major flaws that constantly haunt the moment to moment experience of getting through the game.Updated 1 Month Ago

This game's story experience is like living through its narrative. The combat is also well crafted and friendly for someone who doesn't play souls-like games. The 100% grind was fun and not tedious at all. Exploration and traversal is great, but revisiting sections for collectibles can be a hassle (esp on the Origin Tree). The PC port has disappointing performance issues however. Regardless, its a really incredible game that deserves its reputation of being "one of the best Star Wars games ever".Updated 1.5 Months Ago

Really great game. Felt like a combination of Sekiro meets Metroid Prime meets Darksiders, but very much with a Star Wars vibe. Respawn did a fantastic job here making you feel like you're playing a Jedi Knight, but in a Soulslike format without the grueling, punishing difficulty. Highly recommended if you're a fan of Star Wars, Soulslikes, and just good game design in general. Can't wait to play Jedi Survivor soon as well!Updated 2 Months Ago

Clunky physics makes the platform segments a boredom. The map is terrible and almost useless to use. The lack of some sort of teleporting doesn't help at all and backtracking everything on foot is a waste of time. The items scattered around the map are also pretty useless and almost never worth getting out of the way to get them. It's not all terrible though... Combat is quite nice, animations are good, graphics are also nice. But these aspects weren't great enough to keep me engaged.

I`m a huge SW fan, I`ve watched all the movies, seen clone wars and rebels, watched 2 seasons of Mandalorian. And Fallen Order is one of my favorite SW projects. I beat this game once when it first came out and I was amazed with everything. So, when I decided to venture forth in this trophy hunting journey - of course this game was on the list (12 games in 12 months). As a casual fan, this game is amazing - the story is great with compelling characters, great narrative, lore and amazing moments [when Vader appeared at the end gave me goosebumps]. The collectible grind isn`t that bad, any trophy hunter will be fine with the collectibles; the combat (I played it on normal and hard) can sometimes be a pain (*COUGH* DATHOMIR), but I managed to get through it. Where the grind really makes it difficult is with the exploration. There isn`t an open world but you have many different planets and places to visit, explore and discover. To get the platinum (a.k.a all the achievements) you have to 100% explore the game - thing is the map is one of the most confusing things ever known to mankind. Most of the time you have no idea where you are on the map and how to get to where you need to go. Join that with the lack of fast travel and you get one of the worst exploration experiences. In case I haven`t made myself clear – I really hated the map and the exploration, and I complained a lot to my friends who are following my trophy journey. The collectibles weren`t hard or grindy, and since I left to get most of them after completing the story, it was fine, wouldn`t call it bad. It was mostly ok. Most of the collectables where info-logs – so basically information about the world and its history. But a lot of the collectables were for customization. Customizing Cal, BD, the Mantis or the lightsaber. For me the best customization was the lightsabers - I would change the colors of the blade and the overall device every time I got the chance. For the Mantis, BD and Cal I used the same 2 or 3 color pallets for the entire game and didn`t change much. Exploration and collectibles: 5/10.
The story is a solid 7/10 – I enjoyed the story; it was great but I wouldn’t call it amazing. The narrative had its ups and downs, there definitely where moments where I was more invested and more excited, and a couple of moments where I just wasn’t all that interested. I’d say the characters are a 7/10 as well. Cal is amazing, his arch trying to regain his force powers as he remembers what it is and means to be a jedi. His relationship with BD-1 is great. I love that droid. The inquisitors are good villains, but nothing I would call remarkable. Cere and Greez are a good band of side characters, both have distinct personalities, likes and dislikes. Greez was a personal favorite of mine, more than the other crew members (apart from Cal and BD), I feel he had a great personality and I actually liked to hear his comments about the ship and plants and how he’s scared. The in-universe lore that the game used and introduced, I didn’t care for all that much but it was nice and I enjoyed discovering and reading a couple of entries to the codex.
Combat is 7,5/10. I really enjoyed just swinging the lightsaber around and killing storm troopers. By the end of the game, I felt I had really gotten a hang of the combat and the controls. The upgrades are ok, nothing special, nothing out of the ordinary. A couple were useless, another handful I only used trying to get some miscellaneous trophies. And some abilities were really useful but overall, a solid skill tree. None of the miscellaneous trophies gave me a lot of trouble, most I was able to do during the story or early into the collectible /exploration grind.
With all that said Fallen order as a casual game: 7,5/10. As a platinum experience, the exploration and the poorly designed map really held me back – I’d give the platinum journey a 6,5/10. The games highlights are it`s story, for all those who love SW, I cannot recommend this game enough, it is my favorite SW game for good reason. That reason is the compelling story with a great combat, a great cast of characters and … who doesn`t love playing with the lightsaber as you slice troopers while passing through long lost temples, forests, cold mountains trying to fully reconnect with the force.

Surprisingly good game. The story could have been better though and felt a bit Disney-like, especially the villains. Also the platforming is not great, but serviceable. In short, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a soulslike that respects its players' time, a bit rough around the edges but genuinely a good experience.

Summary----------
An upper tier entry into the expanding Star Wars universe and an adequate entry into the adventure game genre. Plot novelty and story development are not Mandalorian levels of awesome, but a solid step behind. Gameplay is good but very twitchy. Even the most experienced players will find themselves flying in the wrong direction in the middle of a jump puzzle. Force powers are pretty meh, but lightsaber combat makes up for it.
----------
Fallen Order is a great example of what we should want, no demand, from the Star Wars universe now that games are free of the control of LucasArts. Not everything should be about Palpatine, Skywalker, the Death Star, and/or the Millenium Falcon. While not quite on par with The Mandilorian, Fallen Order presents an original story with all new characters that draws lovingly from the rich lore available throughout the official Star Wars cannon and extended universe.
The story follows Cal Kestis, a Jedi Padawan who managed to survive Order 66 and is in hiding as a scrapper. How did Cal survive? What happened to his master? Who are his new companions that help save him from the Empire? These questions are all answered through a solid coming of age story that doesn’t feel so tired, worn out, and cliché. The plot presents Cal with a unique Hero’s Journey with challenges and moral dilemmas that are simultaneously unique to Cal’s story and so very Star Wars. This leads Cal (and the rest of the story) to face interesting decisions that will probably have you both asking “Why?!” and saying “I see your point.”
Perhaps the best part about Fallen Order is the pacing. Ever get so deep into the zone of exploring for hidden do-dads or new cloak colors (that you will never use) to be rudely interrupted with a cut-scene…and you realize you don’t remember the cut-scene that led you to this point. You, my friend, (like me) have been playing too much Assassin’s Creed. I had forgotten how much more fun it is to have a story that drives the game, while still having a good amount of stuff to explore and hidden non-sense to find (and I do loves me my hidden non-sense).
Graphics, motion capture, and animations are well done for the most part. Cal takes on many of the classic Jedi poses through his actions and lightsaber combat, while managing to put a bit of his own style on display. A couple of the character design/animation choices feel a bit wanting. Cal is pretty wooden a lot of the time…eventually I realized that was a deliberate actor choice as the character accepts his Jedi training. I now fully believe Cal could be arm-wrestling a screaming Rancor and simultaneously look unimpressed and non-plussed, but even then it feels like the animators should have made his face a little more alive.
Gameplay itself felt intuitive for a typical pseudo-3D adventure game. Reaction timing and combat is pretty generous. I fired it up on Jedi Master (Hard) and didn’t have too many issues. I would occasionally die if I got lazy or wasn’t paying attention. I beat about half the bosses on my first try, and the worst two bosses only took 1-2 hours.
Some people have said Fallen Order is Dark Souls-like…which makes me question the last time they played Dark Souls. Souls makes several gameplay and character system choices that develop a specific feel…and then there are the design choices to make the levels and bosses very challenging yet fun. Fallen Order doesn’t do any of that. Which, I am sad to report, also means that their boss-fights tend to be more old-school hard, brutal, and controller throwing…and less fun.
My first major complaint about the gameplay is how it is simultaneously very picky and very twitchy. Your character will respond in odd ways if you don’t hit the controller direction exactly right…and at the same time grabbing onto that very thin zipline can feel like trying to land a butcher knife onto a flea. I got over most of this, but would still sigh in exasperation when it took 5 tries to grab the zipline in a non-combat situation.
My other major complaint is how force powers feel too cumbersome to be used in combat. Other than direct lightsaber powers, force powers feel like they leave you open to the bad guys too much and you get punished for using them. Meanwhile, using them doesn’t feel any more impactful than just charging in with your lightsaber. At least lightsaber combat was fun so…it still felt very Star Wars.
Overall, a high-quality entry if you’re a Star Wars fan. An adequate entry if you are an adventure game fan and find all that space saga stuff to be humdrum.
