OH MY GOD!! The taiko no tatsujin drum controller <333. I've been meaning on getting myself one of those. Tapping the button on the controller is fun and all but nothing can compare to slamming the sticks on the drums!

I'd like to chip in on adding an even BIGGER controversy but...
I prefer J-stars over Jump Force any day of the year.
Jump Force can be fun at times and it's definitely more polished than J-stars, but I always felt like JF tried too hard to mimic the fighting style of the Naruto Storm games and falling to do so. In my eyes, it's basically a lesser version of those games. J-stars on the other hand tried to do something more unique. It's janky as all hell and most attacks don't even land the opponent half the time, but I just like the idea that you could be fighting an opponent in this one spot of the map while having another set of characters duking it out across the opposite side of the map, while completely obliterating the surrounding area.
Both games are bad... but they're the kind of bad where you still enjoy them regardless of their flaws. Especially if you have a friend or two to share the experience with you.

I honestly miss manuals, I used to love reading them when I would get a game, and this manual did NOT disappoint.
Same right here. It's always a nice surprise when you're greeted with a manual. Especially the ones that have the sweetest amount of detail. The last game to do something like this, that I remember, is the Switch physical copy of Cave Story.

Gameplay is so good. If the game was under a different title I guarantee that people wouldn't be bashing it as hard as they do. Reboot Dante on the other hand... I still can't forgive them with how badly they handle him... Although he does have his moments.

-Helltaker 1.36h/1.36h, PC
July 15 2020, Wednesday-
When this game was at its peak, I remember vividly seeing both my Twitter and Instagram feed constantly flooded with fanart of the Helltaker girls. At first I tried to ignore it since I don't like engaging with hype culture, but that quickly became a challenge of its own. Day by day, week by week. More and more artwork kept being produced and the weight of it all was starting to crush me. Eventually, it came a time where I couldn't look away from the hellish flames, and I caved in..... AND OH BOY! Do I feel like a fool.
Jumping into this, I was expecting a mediocre game that got blown up in popularity just because of some cute anime girls,
After completing the game, I easily dropped the $10 for the optional content, even though I have zero interest in it and could of had easily acquire it with a quick Google search. I did so because you can feel the love and passion behind the project. The unnecessary polish that can be seen throughout the game, like how objects and characters are constantly swaying to the beat, or how the number count bounces each time you do an action, to even the small sound effects that can be heard within transitions between levels. It's the attention to the smallest of details that sells the game for me. On top of all that, the fact that this game was developed about a year by mostly one person is unavailable. Excluding the sound design and composing the music, everything else is done by vanripperart himself. To coding, drawing, animating, writing and the even the puzzles. Speaking of, the puzzles themselves are actually quite challenging. Nothing too crazy but enough to test your puzzle solving skills to some degree.
All and all, this was pleasure to play and I recommend it to anyone who has an hour to kill. Just keep in mind that you should probably press the 'L' key within every level to get some fun character interactions. I initially thought this feature was the kind that gave you a hint on how to solve the puzzle, and seeing just how stubborn I am to get any kind of help. I ended up not knowing this until I reached the final puzzle based level where I truly got stuck for a bit. Needless to say, I had to go back to each level just to experience these unique dialogues.
Also Justice is best grill and I relate to her in a spiritual level. Change my mind.

8/10, GLORIOUS SUCCESS

Nah, I feel ya. I think for me it's how they're reminiscing of old shitty Newground flash games. I remember as a kid just constantly consuming one garbage game after another until I finally ended up striking gold a few times. Fancy Pants specifically is one I hold close and dear to my heart.
Makes me sad how flash games in general will cease to exist at the end of the year.

Tell me about it...
I try to stray away from gachas just because I know myself all too well. Temptation would definitely get the better of me to drop some cash just for some jpeg of an anime waifu 😅. Which really sucks because games like Fire Emblem Heroes and Fate Grand Order look super interesting.

"if it makes you happy, it can't be that bad. If it makes you happy, then why the hell are you so sad?"
I don't want to delve too deeply into to it but... I believe this kind of mentality doesn't apply to all pleasures and can honestly be quite dangerous. I have a relative who was extremely addicted to drug usage and his main purpose of consuming such thing was because it made him feel temporarily "happy".
On a more light hearted topic. I like what I'm seeing from Rhythm Thief. The art style almost reminds me of Elite Beat Agent. Unfortunately, my 3DS broke down recently and I don't see myself buying a new one anytime soon. I'll definitely keep this game in mind whenever I come around to buying a new one, thanks!

I'm not into Tetris myself just because of how bad I truly am at them... However, last year I tried out a game called Tetris Effect. It was advertised as a rhythm based Tetris game, and while I did get that zen like feeling I do with traditional rhythm games, I didn't end up playing it all that much due to how hard the later levels ended being. Which is a shame because that first level was an amazing experience. To this day I still listen to the soundtrack whenever I'm in a bad mood. Highly recommend it if you haven't tried it out yet!

I love video games. I love listen to music. Put 'em together and what do you get? Rhythm games, baby!
There's something hypnotic about rhythm games that always makes me want to come back to them. It's by far my go to stress reliever. Zoning out and letting my fingers tap away to the rhythm is oddly soothing to me, and the thrill of getting a perfect score is such a wonderful feeling especially to a song that you always end up missing a note or two. However, as much as I love this genre, I can't help but feel just a bit guilty after a session. Thoughts like "I could be doing something more productive" or "This time could had been spent towards finishing my backlog" tend to surface into my head. Heh, so much for a stress reliever, huh?
But anyways, what about you guys? Got anything that makes you feel the same? Or even something you can't be seen playing in public. Let me know, I'm curious.

I was thinking the entire time why would anyone buy a Wii U in 2020
The WiiU excels where the Switch lacks the most and that's having dozens of retro titles under its belt. My WiiU has literally been my go to console for classic Nintendo games since I own the crappiest PC in existence that's incapable of running emulators, so this is a nice workaround.
Also the gamepad for Wind Waker HD is so damn handy. I don't think I can't go back to playing the game without having the map in the palm of my hands at all times.

I do remember initially not liking Yukari in the first few in-game months, but after a some recent development, I came to appreciate the character for what she's suppose to represent. A broken, bitter person who had the misfortune to lose her only guidance in life and left with a mother that made her environment a hostile one. Her bitchy attitude, I believe, is a habit she picked up from the constant arguing and belittling from her mother. However, I feel like a lot of her mean spirited attitude evolved more into simple fun teasing between a bunch of good friends. Even when the line get crossed, she's usually the one to be the bigger person and admit to her mistakes. And I think that's the reason I like her so much. She's aware of her flaws and the aggressive mentally that's engraved into her psychology due to her upbringing. And can you really blame her? Especially after learning the truth behind her father's death and the fact the she's forced into a situation like having to fend off the dark hour against her own will. I think it's understandable for someone in her place to be a little bitchy.
Of course, I've yet to finish the game and my opinions can easily turn into a 180.
And I think we can all agree the Koromaru is the greatest doggo boi in the series <3

I don't know what it is with Persona games and the romance mechanics. It seems like they're always missing the mark by just a few inches. Honestly, at this point I'd be happy if they just gave us the option to romance the dudes. Like bro, I'm straight and even I want a piece of Akihiko.
And what's wrong with Yukari? I think she has to be my second favorite female character (4th out the entirety of S.E.E.S.) while Fuuka being my least favorite overall. Incidentally, she's the second character I ended up pissing off by accident, so I'm not all that mad how things turned out. 😅

Initially I wanted to call this entry "Coffee Break" but went against it for a more straightforward title. It takes me about 10-30 minutes to finish a cup of coffee and that's the same amount of time I tend to stick with the smaller games designed to entertain you for a short duration, or a game I'm trying out just for the hell of it with no plans to return to (cheap silverware titles). So, in this category I want to write about games I have something to say but not enough to focus an entire entry around it. From mobile games to one off titles and everything in between. Also, let me know how the banner looks, it's my first time using a smoke brush so I'm worried it'll look faded and hard to read on other devices.
-------------------------------

I usually like drinking my coffee in a safe, warm, comfortable place, maybe with some chill music playing on the side. However, for whatever reason, I decided to drink it while playing a horror game of all things. I'm surprised I didn't end up pouring my cup all over my crotch by accident with all the jumping and shaking the game got me doing. My heart was honestly racing when I was done with this one and I guarantee you that it wasn't due to the caffeine.
The best way I can describe this game is as if the original Slender was more fleshed out and the enemy was actually scary. It has some of the most nerve wrecking sound I've ever heard in gaming and whenever the nun spots you, you can't help but go in a state of panic. Then again, I'm pretty sensitive when it comes to anything related to horror... As far as I can tell, there's no real jump scares that happen while playing. You're given items that'll help you avoid the nun in any way possible. If you're looking for some quick thrilling horror then this game is just right for that.
!!!WARNING LOUD SOUND!!!
-------------------------------

ClusterTruck is a game where you parkour from truck to truck while avoiding obstacles and falling off from said trucks. It easily gets chaotic as all hell in the later levels but thankfully you're able to purchase abilities to help you out throughout the game. It also rewards you for completing levels as fast as possible. If you're into speedrunning or simply like completing levels quickly then this will easily fulfill that itch of yours.
In all honestly, this is the kind of game I needed to play right now. As much as I love my games to have an enriching story with deep battle mechanics, I sometimes just need a wacky game where trucks are just going ham on one another. This is what games are all about and I'm all for it <3

Hyrule Warrios
A musou style game focused entirely on the Zelda franchise. Can easily spend 100s of hours going through all the optional content. Just be warned that the Switch has the definite version and if you want to get the most out of this game, you're gonna have to drop some extra cash for the DLC.
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Great MH game but the water levels can be a bit annoying at times. Don't recommend this game if this is your first experience with the series.
Nintendo Land
A lot of the solo minigames are fun, such as the Pikmin and Metroid ones, but the game truly shines when you have other people to play with. My personal favorite is the Luigi's Mansion one where the person with the pad plays as the ghost that are invincible to the players playing on the screen.
Splatoon
I'm not entirely sure if the online is still active for this one, but the solo campaign is still worth the game. Has some of the coolest ost in gaming and the final boss is a blast to fight against.
Super Mario 3D World
It's Mario. It has multiplayer. You can't go wrong with this one.
ZombiU
I didn't play this one all too much since I'm sensitive to horror. I do remember being different from anything I've played in the console. Wear headphones while playing this one for full immersion.

Being able to buy digitally is my bane... Temptations immediately sated
I know right?!
I was pro physical only and that all changed soon after purchasing my Switch. It's just more convenient to switch (heh) between games almost instantly. Plus, it's such a hassle having to carry the cartridges around whenever I do end up taking it outside. It doesn't help that games are always going on sale and you can easily bump up the discount by using up your gold coins. At that point, temptation just takes over any rational thinking...
On the topic of games that have no "ending". I usually consider a game like that beaten after I've put in dozen of hours and feel satisfied enough to move on from it. Got 200+ out of New Horizons, and while I definitely didn't do everything the game has to offer, I still feel confident enough to drop it into the completed list.

Also wanted to talk about my first time going to a gaming café! I went out of town for a few days with some friends and family, and the town we went to had a gaming café. Sadly, my hometown doesn’t have one so I never had the chance to try one out until a few weeks ago. The place had PCs, Xbox Ones, PS4s, Switches, and VR.
Oh boy do I envy you!
There's a few gaming cafes near where I live, but from what I can tell, they mostly have PC as their main consoles and nothing but FPS games, which I'm not too fond of either (since my hands get cramped playing with the keyboard and I suck at shooters, lol). I'm glad to hear that that's not the case for all gaming cafes and my faith on them has been restored 😁

Been watching old classics recently since nothing this season is really catching my attention (except for Re:Zero season 2).
March Comes in Like a Lion is usually refereed as an anime about Shogi. It does revolve around the game but it's more than just a bunch of characters competing against one another for the sake of winning. It focuses a lot on the physiologically of the main character and what this game means to him on a personal level. The reasons might not be as typical as winning for money, fame or ego but instead due to his shortcomings in life and how the pieces simply fell into place for him to pursue Shogi professionally. Even though he's considered a child prodigy, he learns that winning all the time doesn't always feel as good, as he feels like he robbed his opponents' chances at happiness especially when there's too much at stake.
While the story does focus a lot on Shogi itself, I never find myself getting confused or lost because the anime does a great job at guiding the audience through visual clues, even though I have no idea how the game itself works.
This has easily become one of my all time favorite anime just because how realistically it depicts its themes of depression and finding value in one's self, I highly recommend this to anyone who struggles with these kinds of mental illnesses as it can teach you a thing or two on how to coop with it.

Bokurano is an anime I got recommended while discussion about Neon Genesis Evangelion and how mixed I felt after finishing it. I came into this show expecting an Eva clone, and while they do share a lot of similarities, I feel like Bokurano delves on topics that Eva just barely scratched on. Especially since the characters die automatically soon after riding the mecha and the struggles that naturally come when facing your own mortality. It's raw, uncomfortable, extremely depressing and holds back absolutely zero punches. It's not as action heavy as Eva but it does a wonderful job at delving into the backstories of each of the 14 kids who are forced into riding the mech. If you enjoy NGE then I highly recommend to give this one a shot.
