This isn't a bad game but I wasn't too impressed by the combat and the pacing of the story. The main story was interesting but they padded it out with a bunch of tedious side content that you could not skip. On top of that this content mostly contained tailing missions that have always been a huge hit with players. I got to a point where I was getting burned out by this and found out I was barely halfway done so I just decided to put it down. I liked the characters and the story but you should never force content on players especially if it gets in the way of the main game.

My favorite game. Not a thing is lacking.

The cast is great, I loved them. Memories of Yagami and Kaito's partnership will stay with me for many years to come. The plot was so enticing, exciting, and unpredictable. I am head over heels for the detective/lawyer story. It's beyond phenomenal, it's actually perfect in my eyes. The gameplay is no slouch either and feels distinctly different from Kiryu in the Yakzua mainlines. Music is a banger too. This game is seriously amazing.

火:剧情好,比我玩过的0极1极277外维新都更像是个合格的日剧。主线一开就停不下来;
是真帅。当然大概也是太帅了,支线普遍很拘束,没如龙那么欢乐;
和极2一样,路人npc里非常多各种发色的短发妹子,我很喜欢😂。

冰:看到的几个攻略里都说这作最重要的技能是那个无限吃,简直胡说八道。要我说最重要的就是小地图看哪里有怪。这作的战斗系统不好玩,那个从游戏开始的教程就在说的蹬墙跳技能,我直到通关就用过一次😂。加上小怪打人还疼,玩到后面我都是看到前方有怪直接就无人机刷新了;
京滨同盟这个大支线烂到爆。中前期就开始,每章都能触发个两三次,一触发出门走两步就是打架,费劲打掉几个中boss又没啥好掉落。窝在房间里耗时间等结束吧,npc还要发消息过来道德绑架你。说真的,我觉着制作组把这个任务的关联npc安排成一个韩国人是故意的😂。当然了,最经典的还在后面,最后一步千辛万苦终于打败了这几个boss完成了大支线,庆功party都开了,觉着终于可以放心逛街的时候,人还没走出金老板的饭馆呢,金老板的短信来了“他们入侵啦,救救我们”😂;
无人机大赛第二烂,不说了;
vr双6刷钱小游戏也挺绝,折腾一个多小时甚至可能空手出来,直接关闭游戏一天都不想玩了。所以游戏里的众筹项目和一些重要技能我都没开完,真不如直接开修改器;

Good and refreshing story compare to other games in the series.
Yagami as a character is very cool, has a great depth and interesting style of combat. His style is more about control the flow of battle and counter attack (same as Tanimura from Yakuza 4), very different from the well-known rush in combat style of Kiryu.
The supporting cast is very good as well, especially Kaito and Sugiura. The female prosecutor friend is a bit lacking in story development.
Overall a good and solid experience.

Most woes are with gameplay stuff that add up over time. Big thing is the fatal hit system. Fatal hits take an absurd amount of money to heal, and there generally isn't that much money to go around unless you grind, as healing and small kits cost at least ¥100k. I also thought there might have been too many chase sections (although it is way better and more justified than in the PS3 games). Lastly, I found the following while justified in plot to be boring at best and painful at worst. There are plenty of times where you need to run to catchup to the enemy, they notice you, there's basically no cover, etc. There's also situations where you have keep distance so they just disappear, causing the timer to go off and possibly completely lose track of them. I don't mind supposedly "boring" detective sequences. I'm a Ace Attorney and Danganronpa fan. I want things like that. But I don't think chases sequences really work on either side of the gameplay spectrum, Yakuza or detective. It's just a way to drag out the game with a system that's a little to punishing in my opinion.

Judgement really doesn't do much for the Yakuza series or create for itself. It takes the same format and gives a different POV through Yagami. Some good aspects, like Combat is awesome and Yagami's move-set is really fluid, however the detective parts are really slow and mundane. It's an enjoyable game, just lacks the substance and bravado that Yakuza has.

This game has quickly entered my all time favorites list. This was my first Yakuza series game I've played. I loved every aspect of the game except for the tailing missions. They just felt like filler content. The main story was thrilling and I loved feeling like I was figuring out the mystery before our cast could piece things together. The combat was fun but I do wish the crane style had more moves you could unlock like the tiger style had because I mostly used the tiger style for most of the game (Still a really enjoyable combat system). My favorite character was Saori with Yagami being a close second (Kinda funny since they were the only two "playable characters". Also thought it was a cool touch that we could see Saori's thoughts one time after playing as her). I had been eyeing Lost Judgment for over a year and finally decided to buy it in the Steam summer sale but before i did, I noticed it had a predecessor that I wasn't aware which caused me to play this game and man am I glad I did. Highly recommend to anybody.

I really liked the story a lot! It was quite moving to be honest, I thought it got a lot better once everything linked up too. The combat was fun, but I did find a lot of the gameplay a little bit dull, especially the detective gameplay features. The general running around the city was just the yakuza series through and through so I can't complain there. On the whole, yeah I enjoyed it and would recommend for fans of the franchise.

8th "Yakuza" game finished... and i'm conflicted.
On one hand they did great.
You can feel that you are still in the same universe despite Judgment clearly being an standalone product.

New protagonist and main story are GREAT! Overall all of "Main" content is great. Fighting might be even "fighting" for the best one in the whole Yakuza series so far.

Ofc. some things wasn't that great, for example: tailing people, opening locks and yagamis alzheimer with keys got annoying/boring hella quick but it's their first "Detective game" so mistakes are inevitable.

Problem starts with the side content - it might be the worst one only beaten by Yakuza 3.

First off we don't get any big "Side story". What is sad, but it is - how it is.
The real problem is the content that was made.

Instead of typical "Substories" we get "Friends" and "Side Cases" 50 of each what sound new but in reality - both friends and side cases are substories just with split into 2 folders and the quality of most of them ain't great. ofc. there is like 20? 25? That is great, there is like 20? 25? that is ok but 40-50 out of 100 being intresting/fun isn't an good ratio.
Honestly as sad as it sound i would literally cut about 50 of them and that would in my opinion make game better.

Minigames side of thing is a step backward too, most of them is copy-paste from Y6 often even in downgraded version.
Ofc. there is nothing bad in doing an copy-paste of for example baseball, like why wouldn't they do it? But from perspective of someone who finished all previous yakuza games there just isn't much intersting stuff to do. Drone racing? 2D Codes? Kamurocho of the dead? a bit of new shogi content? Yeah... that's kinda it. What is really sad.

and there is an...
Paradise VR! Yeah... more like Nightmare VR. it's an best source of yen income in the whole game but it's not great designed.
On paper it sound amazing - you just get an table-top dungeon with rewards and intresting fights.
In reality tho - it's fun for first few runds and after them it's getting boring and repetetive fast, but if you wanna get everything important from it and enough money to finish everything (for me that mean all of the "content") you will need to play it for quite a few hours what that game clearly isn't desgined for.

All of the bad stuff aside - it's an great game, i clearly can recommend finishing the main story to almost anyone.

Overall from perspective of someone who is going from Y:0 to Y:IW - i was hoping that Judgment gonna be better BUT the game did what it suppose to do - make me wanna play next Yakuza game even more than before.

I didn't expect to delete this, but I guess it simply didn't give me what I was getting from the Yakuza series - and that's what I wanted. I don't think the MC has the same charisma, and I don't think the game (or engine, even), suits this kind of game. Everything feels sloppy movement and combat wise because of it.

Solid RGG game, good story and characters. Nice to see Kamurocho from a different perspective. Even the combat system is mostly okayish.

Some things can be quite annoying, though. The first tailing mission is interesting, the second less so, the twentieth... well. Also, whoever came up with "unrecoverable health"... why?
And then the regular Keihin attacks...

The friend system at least is much more impactful than whatever Y8 tried to do.

Judgment is another excellent RGG game. It's pretty similar to the Yakuza/Like A Dragon series, taking place in the same universe and the area of Kamurocho, but it manages to carve out its own niche. The ex-lawyer detective angle is interesting, and Yagami is a very different sort of character compared to Kiryu.

A lot of the familiar stuff from the Yakuza games is still here, with many of the same stores and mini-games and such, and although the combat system is quite different in its particulars, it is still the same kind of thing. So if you're familiar with those games, you'll feel comfortable but also enjoy something new.

The story, however, is one of the best I've experienced from the RGG studio. In some ways it feels more intimate, with lower level yakuza being a greater threat as opposed to the Yakuza games where you butt heads with the leaders of huge yakuza clans and crush most of them with ease. Yagami is tough, but he's not some superhuman. That plus Yagami being a non-yakuza gives the game a different flavour, and with the detective stuff and a huge conspiracy that unfolds, it's quite interesting. The story goes to some very interesting places, and I thought the last few chapters especially were really engaging. That's not to speak of the characters, some of whom are very likeable, hateable, or otherwise interesting.

Judgment has its issues of course, with some of the side content being hit and miss and a heavy animation focus making parts of combat feel sluggish or unresponsive, but overall it's a great time. The side content is fun and amusing and usual, and I enjoyed the majority of my time with the game.

It's not quite a Yakuza game, but it's not super un-Yakuza either. But if you like those games, or if you like mystery or detective stories, it's easy to recommend.

Judgment - an interesting yakuza spinoff with its own independent story that is full of plot twists. I played it immediately after yakuza kiwami and it feels like the new engine improves a lot of things, most notably running around town (ticking on the minimap, no cutscenes between fights on the street). Being able to choose the type of answer in dialogue is a variety, but unfortunately it ultimately doesn't affect the direction of the dialogue. Yagami as a main character I feel is more interesting than the kiryu at the beginning of the story in yakuza. I like the legal-detective story based on logic and drawing conclusions. Gathering evidence by taking pictures and analysing, cross-country chases, using a drone (the drone races are cosseting) are all very atmospheric, while the slow tracking missions are extremely boring (tailing), and each of the side activities eventually become very repetitive with the result that I didn't do too many of them (which is a shame, because the yakuza series stands up with side missions). The music is very well suited to the situation, but also often repetitive. The yakuza atmosphere can be felt at every turn, which also has its drawbacks as it is not a series for everyone - the game still seems quite clumsy despite the new engine (cutscenes are similarly directed as in other parts), there is still a lack of voice acting for each dialogue - I would prefer fewer side quests but well acted than dry dialogues - this is probably my main complaint with this type of game series in general. Also, unfortunately you often return to the same locations and even buildings - more variety is needed in my opinion, rather than another similar trip to kamurocho - this has been best presented by yakuza 0 so far. In judgmencie I still lacked additional weapons to use apart from fists and legs and what enemies have dropped, while extracts of various kinds from dlc add a lot of variety to the combat (despite being op). The action from chapter 10 onwards is very fast-paced and brutal with a good ending.

There are a lot of Yakuza games at this point and RGG shows no signs of slowing down. With Like a Dragon 8 quickly approaching, I wanted to try and catch up on this spinoff series at long last. I knew the fanbase rated this game highly but I honestly didn't know how I would feel. After 50 hours of Judgment I can see why it is loved.

Judgment takes the beat 'em up action gameplay, quirky humor, and engaging drama of the main series and injects some Ace Attorney adventure-style to change things up just enough to make the proceedings feel fresh. Yagami is a strong protagonist who distinguishes himself from Kiryu in many ways. This guy is dedicated to the truth, not a yakuza clan and his arc in this game is a strong one. So strong, in fact, that I would have been fine if this was a one off. The supporting cast is excellent and shows just how good Nagoshi and his team are at developing characters and worldbuilding. By the end, I was completely invested in Kaito, Sugiura, Higashi, Saori, and the rest. The entire narrative is at the upper end of RGG's canon and gives even Yakuza 0 a run for its money. The mystery is engaging and the reveals almost always land.

One of the few flaws here is, as is the case with this studio, the pacing. There is a lot to do in these games but even if you stick to the main story, you will find yourself forced into diversions and meandering despite the stakes of the story. I am pretty used to this by now but it would be nice to have an RGG game that tightened things up for once. On top of that, the side content varies in quality here. I played the PS5 version which I know switches out a few activities but Yagami refusing to go to a karaoke bar in both versions is crazy. Karaoke is a mainstay of the series for a reason and the main minigames (drone racing and an in-world VR game) are nowhere near as engaging as real estate, baseball, or hostess club management from some of the series other best games.

That isn't to say that the side content is bad. The 100 friends and side cases you will encounter fit the well-established mold of the main series and do their part to give more fun moments with Yagami and some of the other characters. Only a few of them are especially memorable but they are always fun to pursue aside from a few with intense requirements. I, for one, am still not ready to actually learn how to play mahjong so I guess Tachibana and I will never complete our friendship.

Having access to only one city may detract from the experience for some but I think keeping things in Kamurocho was smart for a first game. You may get bored being in one location for the entire game, especially in the slower chapters, but I much prefer this to an overabundance of bland locations like in Yakuza 5.

Overall, Judgment is an easy recommend to most gamers. If you've been intimidated by the main series or want to try something similar with less of a time investment, definitely pick up Judgment.

And, seriously guys, tailing people isn't THAT bad. I could use a little less of it in the sequel though.

Let's lay out the facts. A long-running franchise about the gangster-run district of Kamurocho turns its attention to another hero in its alleyways, Takayuki Yagami, a disgraced lawyer turned private detective. Three years into his career change, he is tasked with solving a series of murders of yakuza members found with their eyes gouged out. Amongst the threats of harm and hostility, Yagami and his cohorts must excavate the truth from wherever they can find it. Judgement takes its time doling out its story across the 40+ hour adventure, but lands on a satisfying and complex detective mystery, even if the ride isn't always the smoothest.

If you are familiar with the Yakuza games, Judgement will feel in line with its predecessors. Primarily, you are dropped in the urban nightlife-centric Kamurocho, running through crowds of pedestrians and fighting groups of disgruntled foes, from thugs to yakuza to serial perverts. Combat is mostly a button masher, with some combos and special moves to switch up your flow. Yagami is able to freely swap between the group-focused Crane Style and the 1v1 Tiger Style at will to dispatch any foe that stands in his way. You can also pick up any stray item, from bikes to traffic cones, to beat the living daylights out of attackers, which is always over the top and satisfying. A new mechanic is introduced with more difficult foes, who may deal Mortal Wounds, which reduce your maximum health with simple recovery items not able to fully heal. It's a nice addition that adds more risk and danger to the otherwise simple fighting.

The main draw of Judgement is running around and exploring some of the many activities you can do, like hitting the arcade, racing drones, and eating at one of the many restaurants. Through your adventure, you may meet potential friends. If you help the friend out, your city reputation increases, and some friends may even help you in battle. You may also stumble upon a host of side cases for Yagami's detective skills, which tasks you with solving a bunch of citizen's issues. Both cases and friends are gradually introduced throughout the story via the map or interactions to find in a few key locations, always prompting you to spin the block and find new stories. The interactions in both are usually more lighthearted and provide not only a great balance with the heavy main story, but flesh out Yagami as a character and prove his skills as a fledgling detective.

Your detective skills are put to the test in a few ways throughout the game. A frequent occurance is tailing a target, which just requires staying out of sight and hiding when prompted. These segments are always a little too long and become a little annoying due to their frequency. Other minigames like spotting a suspect with your camera, lockpicking, and foot chases are much more fun and provide a light tension through the generally massive amount of dialogue. Thankfully, Judgement has a fully voiced English translation, and that went a long way into my being interested and engaged enough to finish the game. The music also wedges its way into your brain and Judgement became a vibe that I was thinking about a lot when I had to take time away. The game breaks up into several TV episode-like chapters, and that became a great structure for the story and tackling the game over the last month or so.

Like with many open-world, long titles, Judgement suffers from just too much sometimes. Tailing sequences, as mentioned before, are too often and too long and many story beats require you to run back and forth through the city with no real efficient way other than running, which puts you at risk for the random encounter combat. In trying to see through all side cases, the game also gates the final few missions behind an extensive collectible hunt, an exhaustive set of minigame challenges, and forces you to win at mahjong several times (which I still have not been able to do). I wish the game kept some of the more optional activities out of the completion progress of the game, and I felt cheated after spending an extra dozen hours trying to solve all the cases and get all the friends, just to be stopped by a game of mahjong :(.

In the end, Judgement impressed me. Despite trying other games in the franchise, Judgement is the first one I saw to the end thanks to its likeable cast, interesting mystery, and fun gameplay loops. While it always ran well, the game's pacing and some narrative beats have issues, leading to a more frustrating back half than I would have liked. I don't know if I'll ever have time to play all of these games, but I'm excited to play Lost Judgement and see what's next for Yagami and the crew.

Great overarching story and cast of characters that carry this game
Combat seems outdated
Chase and follow sequences are tedious
Some side missions are hilariously fun, others not so

Beautiful game with plot twists in story. A refreshing story taken place in Yakuza universe, protagonist kind of reminded me of Goro Majima in yakuza 0, and his Sidekick Kaito was reminded me of goofy version of Kiryu. :)) Definitely recoomend if you're into Yakuza games. I love you Ryū Ga Gotoku Studios!

Great game, has some annoying mechanics aka the second pick locking mini-game, the one where you gotta use the sticks. That annoyed me, especially when doing it on Dice n Cube, but overall I still really liked this game.

The tailing segments were tiresome after a while but, it's part of the game so makes sense (LJ only has one I believe), the chase segments weren't that bad, LJ definitely improved on those. Combat is pretty good, the styles are pretty good as well.

[side note: for this and LJ I will add the times I beat the game. For my casual normal time I made different saves and for LJ so I'll be able to get a somewhat accurate time but for Legend on LJ, not as much but eh.]

A worthy spin-off of the Yakuza series. You play as a detective in this game in search of the truth about the string of grisly murders in Kamurocho. The game offers many hours of fun side content as well as a captivating story to immerse oneself in. The combat is very engaging, and the characters are well developed. The graphics are also improved from the previous Yakuza titles. Overall, this is a great game to try if you like the Yakuza series.

This is my first foray into the world of the Yakuza games, and I know it's a spin off but I'll definitly play more games in the series now. I'm really happily surprised by the storytelling, world building and characters.

What I liked:
* Yagami
* Yagami's group of friends (I won't name names but there's one with glasses who has a special place in my heart you big grump you).
* The music is great, especially the theme
* The side cases are really funny.
* Running around the city eating everywhere and talking to the inhabitants never got boring.
* The main story line is very interesting. It's not just about the Yakuza of Kamurocho.
* The detective elements (sneaking behind someone, running after them, and answering questions) brings some nice light moments in between the tricky fights.

What I didn't like:
* The moment the threat level rose my desire to play stopped. It's annoying to get attacked every second
* Second looks fantastic but feels... messy. Even towards the end I didn't have satisfying fights because the controls are a bit hit and miss.

I loved this game and I can't wait what the developers have in store for Yagami next in Lost Judgment.

I liked this way more than i thought i would. Has all of that Yakuza penache but really squared in on the story, these characters were a lot of fun too. It's got that sense of controlled madness that the Yakuza series lacked at times.
