Good game. Wish it had a bit more resource scarcity, you could easily use a very limited set of weapons from start to finish.

The first in a series and in my opinion, probably actually the best one. A solid if predictable story. Good gameplay mechanics and level design. It unfortunately suffers from bad bosses and no real incentive to explore the incredible world it's set in.

The game holds up very well, even a decade later.

I've wanted to play Bioshock for a long time. Heard great things about the game, but never got around to it. I just finished the remastered version, and wow, I would still consider it a very unique experience even 11 years later. The environment. The atmosphere. The narrative. It's all phenomenal. The whole underwater city, and the 70's theme fit together perfectly. The way the city was in ruins, and the underlying mystery as to why everything is in ruins, was all very gripping. I couldn't put the controller down. I wanted to know what came next. The dialogue and progression slowly uncovered more and more. And more and more I was drawn in. The plot is filled with twists and turns.
The Little Sisters and Big Daddys concept is very interesting. The ADAM for your power up is right there, but they won't fight you unless you fight them. This element of freedom the game gave was great. I can't really think of any game that does it this way. Where a mini-boss is literally just lurking around the entire level. All the power ups were interesting as well.
Though there are a few problems. Not being able to swap the positions of your power ups and weapons was super annoying. Having remembered what the hotkey for a certain item was for a long duration of the game, it completely threw me off when the positions was switched around, because of an event or I swapped a power up along the way. There is also a mouse sensitivity problem on the remastered version, if you play on PC. This was extremely annoying, and I've read others have experienced it too.

I played the remastered version, which does seem slightly aged, but overall was a pretty good experience! I don't often play these kinds of games, but it is a fun type every once in a while. As I was going through my backlog looking for a new game to start, I decided to just hit the random button and this showed up. Glad I gave it the time!

I feel like I actually payed attention and actually followed the game this time around, which was quite rewarding! I love the details of the world building and the sound design is excellent!

I look forward to smashing through this trilogy again one day on steam and actually having play times to record.

Bioshock is a game I had missed out on years ago and as much as I love the Bioshock games, this one, even remastered doesn't hold well with today's standards. gameplay holds Bioshock back the most. That being said, in terms of story, this is one of the best series out there and if you can get passed the rough gameplay, Bioshock will not fail you.

Overall, I think it's pretty good.
Things I like:
- It's an inherently political game that has something to say about a specific philosophical approach. I grew up in an area known as the libertarian capital of the US, so seeing a piece of art that specifically comments on that sociopolitical belief system, even if what it has to say is anti-libertarian, is pretty neat.
- The combat is fairly varied. Plasmids, lots of guns, and a bit of stealth is possible.
- The story! Without revealing the twist, the ending is particularly cool. You also have some level of agency in the story too! There's a good ending and a bad ending.
Things I didn't like:
- The consequences for the choices aren't all that fleshed out. Neither are the choices themselves. The whole moral system is very small and not the marketing point I think it was made out to be.

A sinister game, your first hours of gameplay you don’t know what’s happening, but it’s awesome shooting and using eve powers. Game art, environment and lighting are awesome, gives you the right feeling on being on a chaotic submarine city full of monsters and bad people. Being on the same page with the story telling is difficult, I played with speakers and subtitles due to preference, and I struggled with the radio listening, and reading subtitles was impossible if any combat was involved, having different story lines is a perfect addition, since you could represent your thinking on the gameplay. The final boss gave me a bad taste of this workpiece, it felt really ‘just shoot and drain eve’, no brain battle, although the little sisters draining him at the end is a great closing.

One of the best FPS out there, i like the setting and the music and the story and the gameplay, its all good really.
My only minor gripe is that towards the ending it goes a bit downhill and the final boss is terrible, also the moral choices are so easy game should've tried to make it more tricky and harder for the player to decide what is right and wrong.
Other than that a masterpiece and a very inspired game. I prefer it over system shock 2 tbh.

Bioshock is an amazing game and one that deserves to be played at least once in your life, if you somehow haven't already! From the opening moments when you discover the city of Rapture underneath the sea, you will be captivated by the art deco environments and the memorable enemies and characters. As you progress through the game, you will learn more about the city and the people who built it by picking up audio logs, some of which are deeply disturbing.

There is a definite horror element to the game, and there will be moments when you're both scared and fighting hard to stay alive. Key to survival is using plasmids, as well as the weapons at your disposal, against your enemies. Plasmids allow you to genetically modify yourself, giving you some very useful powers. Along with the environments, these give you multiple ways to deal with enemies, which makes the gameplay interesting and fun.

Bioshock is not a game that has really stood the test of time, but a lot of the narrative aspects are still thought-provoking after more than 15 years. Starting from the gameplay. Bioshock is not fun to play considering current-day gamer sensibilities. Enemy designs are quite basic and don't feel super varied. The combat boils down to just shooting a bullet sponge that is perfectly accurate and will always hit you back. Anything more strategic requires the use of an ability and gun radial that stops time and gives you time to think. And most of the plasmids are mostly useless in killing the enemies. Bioshock's biggest flaw is undoubtedly its gameplay.
However, the narrative of BioShock has stood the test of time and invokes original ideas even after all the games it inspired. Rapture is a beautiful and brilliant environment; hearing about how it fell through the game's audio diaries is always interesting. The characters have their own ideals that they follow or abandon, which allows the game to handle many ideas from different perspectives. The most prevalent of these characters is Andrew Ryan, who set out to build the perfect libertarian paradise, which eventually crumbles and Ryan's ideology with it. Ryan is a character that demands attention every time he speaks throughout the game and his death scene works as a perfect knot on the character that is Andrew Ryan. There is much commentary on Ryan's ideology in the game, a lot of which is taken from the works of Ayn Rand, all of it interesting, and none of it especially positive towards it.
The twists happening around the midway of the game are well foreshadowed and they feel logical. Sadly, however, Fontaine is not nearly as interesting of a character as Ryan, and while the story doesn't become horrible, it still turns into something less original and interesting.
The environment and narrative of BioShock are still worth experiencing, and Rapture is a beautiful city to explore, however, the gameplay is bad enough that I personally did not find much enjoyment in its boring gunplay and subpar enemy design.

Still holds up fairly well after all those years. Played it on the Steam Deck. The graphics did not feel outdated, probably because of the OLED screen on the Deck. Performance wise it also ran great, most of the times I hit 90 fps.

Gameplay is okay, not a lot of variety in enemies. The overall vibe of the game is really good though. The dark gritty atmosphere Bioshock has sets itself apart from many other linear shooters. Story is okay, wasn’t that invested into the characters but it’s good enough.

There also isn’t a lot of variety in weapons. You get about 5 weapons, but the melee weapon was unusable for me towards the end of the game since it barely does any damage. Because of that I had to use other weapons and ammo is fairly scarce. That adds to the challenge, you have to use the all the tools the game provides.

Overall a great game despite its age. For anyone who owns a Steam Deck and is catching up on his or her backlog, I can recommend picking this game up!

The BioShock games have been sitting in my backlog for the longest time now since Epic gave away the trilogy for free almost 2 years ago now, and I thought, "Hey, what the heck, now's a better time than any to finally break them out." I haven't played any action-horror shooters before, so I didn't go in with high expectations or anything (didn't really go in with any expectations if I'm being honest), but it was a good time nonetheless.

The run-and-gun gameplay is fun and satisfying. You have your basic pistol, Tommy gun, and shotgun along with your more unconventional crossbow, flamethrower, and grenade launcher. I mostly stuck with the former since they were the most effective weapons for the job, at least for me. But those aren't the only tools that you'll be using; you also have plasmids. Plasmids give you abilities like telekinesis, pyrokinesis, static shock, and so on. They're an interesting gameplay mechanic, but I feel like I didn't need to use them as much as I should have. I wish there were more enemies or puzzles even that revolved around using these abilities. Like, it would be cool if there were a fire-type enemy, and the best way to beat it was to use the freeze plasmid, and vice versa if there were an ice-type enemy. So, there was a lot of wasted potential in that area of the gameplay. Another area of gameplay that this game does well in is its survival mechanics. This setting only has a finite amount of resources, so you're always scrounging and trying to conserve ammo and health kits. It's not a big part of the game, but you do have to consistently keep resource management active in the back of your mind. There's more to the gameplay than just those things, but I'll leave it at that.

But the thing that BioShock really excels in is its setting and its world. The moment you step foot in the underwater city of Rapture, you go "...holy hell, what happened here??" There are some gruesome and bloody details, and you'll never know what kind of screwed-up horror will be laying around the corner. It's too bad the gameplay is relatively fast, so you're most likely gonna miss some of the details. You'll find most of the lore of Rapture in the form of these audio logs. Most of the time, the logs aren't hard to miss, but you'll sometimes find them out of order and be confused as to what the speaker is talking about, but not all the time. They did a good job of making sure that you didn't need to find them in a specific order or that when you do need to listen to them in order, they'll line them up for you. You play as... the protagonist? I don't remember if he was named. You play as a guy whose plane crash lands next to a lighthouse. You go into this lighthouse and find an elevator that takes you to Rapture. The first voice you hear over the intercoms is Frank Fontaine's. Frank has a dilemma: his wife and kid are in danger and need to be saved from the evils of this world. At least, that's how it starts out... going beyond that basic premise would be going into spoilers, I think. The narrative is good and has some good twists that I didn't see coming.

Overall, BioShock is a fun horror shooter that left me wanting in some places, particularly with the gameplay, but is generally a satisfying experience and good time all around.

Bioshock's fascinating story is heightened by an equally great soundtrack. Amazing environment and art direction. Gunplay feels good and the interaction between the plasmids and the environment offers a lot of variety. The enemies feel extremely dangerous and unpredictable, which makes the fighting extremely intense. Sometimes close to a horror game, especially in the first third of the game.

Gostei muito do jogo, joguei na dificuldade normal e consegui aproveitar bastante. Os grafícos me agradam e a estética Steampunk deixa tudo melhor.

Bioshock 1 has many great qualities that are lost to time, which ends up not sparking much joy almost 3 decades later.

I bought Bioshock 1 + 2 back in 2016, ended up playing for some time but quit because I wasn't invested, but after so many years I tried playing again, started in 2022, quit again, started in the end of 2023 and quit again, but finally I put it to rest.

The controls and keybindings are horrible, even swapping them won't save you from fumbling everything, the quests are weird, combat is inconsistent and Big Daddies are by far the hardest enemy out there, even outshining any boss by a huge margin, HUD and Quality of Life implementations such as the Map + objectives are really bad too.

But, it's impossible to not admit, the visuals, the soundtrack, the whole world setting and ambience is other worldy, the first time you see a Big Daddy, when you traverse the whole city, it's fascinating, and the story, really well told.

Only takeaway by the story, is that the gameplay is not balanced in a way to justify going the "bad" route, you are barely punished and ends up just being an obvious choice all gameplay.

In all, in it's time I'm sure this was an absolute banger, but I just didn't have fun in the "game" aspect.

A strong 6/10.

A incredibly unique FPS with upgrade systems and fun ways to fight enemies. Pretty interesting characters and amazing story. Gameplay is a little stiff for 2024 but it's easy to get used to. Doesn't get stale until the very end of the game, and I did a lot of extra things. The ending is amazing, I will say nothing else regarding story because I would hate to spoil this gem for anyone. An underwater decrepit city is the location, and there is a lot of crazy things to discover in the location!

I vaguely understood the story, cared about rescuing Little Sisters, or even wondered who my enemy was and what their motives were. It wasn't until my third playthrough, as an adult, that I truly appreciated the depth of the story. I began to piece together diaries and easter eggs while taking the time to pause the game to search for some lore. It greatly increased my appreciation for the developers and their creativity. Now, "Would you kindly" give the game a try?
