This game was a nice change of pace from the other AC games since you spend a big portion of the gameplay in the sea, being totally different from previous entries. While some people consider this to be one of the best in the series I don't share the same opinion, however it's still a pretty good game.First off the combat doesn't feel as smooth as some other entries, making me want to mostly play stealthy. In my opinion, a good AC game should have both types of gameplay well designed so you can change at your own liking. stealth was improved so I don´t have any complains on that, and the addition of the blowpipe makes you feel like you truly have control as an assassin.
Storywise was alright, the characters weren't as interesting imo, except from Edward and some other side characters like Blackbeard. The naval parts of the game, which I´d say is were you sink the most time into are good but get repetitive sometimes. After a while it gets really grindy if you want to unlock the best equipment for your ship. Exploration is cool whenever you find a new island, but some other times you just navigate the ship whitout nothing interesting really happening.
All in all, a good game but not the best of the franchise, 8/10

Really fun gameplay, nice story that is quite fun and superb naval combat and traverse. Really enjoyable game which i can recommend.Just one of the better Assassins Creed games of the "old" era, it goes by quickly, does not drag unnecessarily, nothing to really complain about, some bugs (mainly visual) occured, the modern stuff is just boring but i understand the inclusion. Tail missions are overused, you tail everything and everyone, but the game makes it up by being just plain fun.
Overall I´m not surprised people returned to this after Skull and Bones floped.

I picked this up on summer break and had a blast. Played on last-gen hardware (Xbox 360), but TBH I barely noticed the difference once I replayed on next-gen hardware years later. This was a really good port. Game-play and story wise... need I explain? Everyone knows Black Flag is a banger. I desperately need more pirate games, such as this, in my life. Edward Kenway is such a great protagonist, and his story is super fun to relive. One complaint I'd say is it's not much of an Assassins Creed story, so if that's what you're looking for (but still want ship combat), looks towards AC3 or AC Origins. Another complaint is the slow, boring start, similar to AC3 but with a less better story intro. It's still good, though.

Replayed 10 years later.Got annoyed by UI and decided to play without it for "immersion". If you familiar with AC gameplay you can go pretty well, unless the game asks you to do something at the other side of the map and the only indication of it is a map marker. I actually liked it more when I had to actually engage with the world and look around for collectibles, instead of just following the markers on the mini map. I heard that AC1 was designed around this playstyle, so I'll definitely replay it this way.
Parkour is kinda clunky, since it wasn't meant to work with so many objects.Second half of the game is a fever dream and is why I forgot it completely. The sea gameplay is fine, but I didn't want to engage with it. I thought it had more depth, but there is probably no need.
Ubisoft also killed the very convinient mobile companion app around 2 years after release, which makes Kenway's Fleet is a huge chore, because now you need to go to captain's cabin every X minutes instead of tapping a few times on a phone/tablet. Oh, and Kenway's Fleet doesn't work on PC without a fan patch. It's also server based, so once they are down you won't be able to get 100% without cheats. It seems that Switch version made it local?

Same old Assassin's Creed with a lot of sailing and ship battles.- Gameplay -
Combat is more or less the same as Assassin's Creed 3, except this time there's A LOT of sailing and battles out in the ocean. If you like shooting cannons and mortors while steering a ship, then you'll love it. At first, I found the sea battles to be tedious, but realized my ship was under leveled. Once I upgraded the necessary parts, the battles went much more smoothly. I personally don't enjoy steering a large ship, as I find it clunky in general, but with a story about Pirates, it can't be helped.
The parkouring the series is known for is good, but there were some parts where I would jump to my death even though my camera was pointed towards a climbable ledge. These were far and few inbetween, so it wasn't too bad. Smoke bombs and darts can allow you to go about an area in many different ways. Though I did feel it was too easy to level pouch upgrades to the max, which in turn allowed you to cruise through pretty much any situation. You need animal skin to craft things, but all of it can be suprisingly bought in shops at an average price. This took away the need to hunt, which is a negative.
- Narrative -
The story and characters are probably my favorite part about Black Flag. Assassin's Creed stories have never disappointed me, and this one upped the bar. Edward was a very interesting character. He starts off as this greedy and selfish pirate, but slowly matures into a much more noble character through failures and loss. I love seeing characters grow through hardships. The comrades Edward meets were also very likable. They had their own interesting back story and personalities.
Of course, there's the main story of Assassin's Creed, Abstergo. I thought Abstergo Entertainment was a cool way to continue the story of the modern day Assassins and Templars. The building is full of bonus content that unravels more mysteries about the story. It was mysterious and interesting.
- Visuals & Sounds -
The game overall looks good, though some climbing animations could be better. I'm taking experience from Uncharted, so I'm a bit spoiled. You'll hear your crew singing as you're sailing the ship, there's mysterious music playing while you're uncovering secrets in Abstergo Entertainment, so the music is overall good.
- Replay value -
There's paid DLC. Aside from that, you can only go back to complete side missions, and collectables.

StoryI liked the almost stumbling into becoming a Templar in the beginning. Thinking i will get to interrogate the Sage and then being slammed back and discovered. The antagonist/antagonists imo was a bit underwhelming and didn't feel very gripping beyond that they are Templars.
Edward as a character i LOVED, definitely better than Connor from AC3, but still not quite as good as Altair and Ezio.
The side characters is what really elevates the story experience to me. Having Blackbeard be there but not overdoing the addition of him was perfect.
The story of trying to find the observatory for personal gain throughout and then coming to realize the weight that mindset took on those around Edward were truly well done. The final song with Edward looking on to all his friends who had since died was emotional and they used the proper amount of build up to pay that off properly.
Additions - Sailing Mechanics - Bush hiding
Gameplay
Movement feels the same as AC3 and is weighty which is good
The sailing and ship mechanics and gameplay was very satisfying but still very trivial as i never felt in danger, especially when my ship was upgraded.
The spotting system seemed much better and more consistent.
I actually enjoyed the tailing missions, it made me feel like a real assassin stalking my prey.
Setting
I don't have such an affinity for Pirates and for that life. The game still does a great job engaging me with the pirate life throughout the game and was able to hook me with the depth it had to be a pirate.
Combat
I really enjoyed everything about this combat.
Overall: 8.6/10
The story was very engaging even though I do not care for Pirates. The naval combat was fun and Edward is a great protagonist. Did great to expand the lore of Abstergo and the modern day after AC3 killed Desmond.

This game was a treat. Now, this is my first assassins creed game and I could see how the series gets stale yet wow, what a game. The characters, gameplay, missions, graphics and story were all amazing. I can’t believe this game came out in 2013. I took the liberty of fully exploring the world, getting all viewpoints and assassin contracts, yet didn’t get any of the collectathon type things like animus fragments, chests and most of the shanties. I really liked the story in this game too, the character received a lot of characteristics I development throughout and they actually felt like a real person. The combat was smooth while a little button marshy And the first bit of the story was a bit boring while it set everything up, but when it got goin it really got goin. Edward Kenway was a great character and had a lot of development with real emotions, like when he spirals down to depression and drinking. Spoilers ahead, the twists in the story were great. Like the sage turning on you and then turning up at the end of the game in the modern world. I have heard many people complain about the over abundance of trailing missions yet I did not find this much of an issue in the game since I am new to the series, yet I could see how it bogs down the experience in subsequent play throughs. Overall, this game was great and I am ever so excited to play the other games in the series.

Assassin's creed black flag is considered to be the best AC game due to the beloved main character and for the pirate ship gameplay. Lets get the downsides out of the way: the game is made by Ubisoft so you know it has its share of janky enemies and movement, bodies ragdolling into the sky and dogshit story (im not even gonna comment on the one hour unskippable opening sequence of black flag). Specifically for black flag, the game has too many goddamn tailing missions, too much grinding for upgrades, too many unskippable cutscenes, legendary ships are too difficult so to be able to beat them you need an already maxed out Jackdaw, meaning the 20k coins they drop are useless.The upside of the game is that the combat is somewhat satisfying, the main character is likeable and his voice actor is good. This game has perhaps the greatest pirate ship gameplay out of all the games, with pretty realistic cannonfire and ship boarding. The main story characters weren't that bad, i almost felt something like sadness or regret every time one of them was fucking killed. The thing i hated about the story was the existence of an "ancient civilization that had advanced technology but is now destroyed" trope that plagues the gaming industry. For a pirate theme, it would fit much better to have a sense of magic or sorceries or something, like in the pirates of the caribbean (for example existence of mermaids, an island where water flow upward, davy jones, et cetera).
The game has it's good parts and its several bad parts. If the core pirate idea was better fleshed out and if they cut the modern day part of the story and made it need less grinding, it would be a respectable game. However reality is often disappointing so i express my own disappointment with a damn 6/10. That's the highest i can give a assassins creed game.

First AC game I've played in a while. Gotta say, after the disappointment that was AC:R and AC3 (imo), this game reminded me on how much I missed the franchise. We got an amazing protagonist with an amazing character arc, cool gameplay (pirate gameplay could've been hit-or-miss but it worked well), great story, and great ensemble from both the Assassins and Templars. Overall, there were a lot of great (and emotional) moments that I shall remember. However, I did not give this a higher rating because many times I felt this game grindy. There's so many collectibles and oh gosh was grinding to upgrade the Jackdaw miserable at first. Thankfully I got strong enough to easily annihilate any Man O' War, but it was not a pleasant experience earlier.

The game left mixed emotions. As always in the series there is a perfectly recreated historical era, good graphics, a huge number of activities and quite a good story - unlike AC3 the puzzle is assembled. The problem is that unlike the Ezio trilogy the puzzle is not so smooth and beautiful, almost all additional activities are just filler and do not cause any interest at all. Nevertheless, the option to "play almost only the story" is still available and allows you to enjoy the game without turning everything into a "speedrun collecting a million collectibles" experienceUpdated 5.5 Months Ago

One of the better Assassin's Creed games I have played, but it faults just like all it's predecessors in being to large and monotonous. The ship sailing and battles are the most fun part, but having to board every ship to get the full amount of resources and get repairs just felt like a chore half way through. The game just started to feel like a grind and missions were constantly just tailing people and then assassinating them after eavesdropping. Some things were better than others, but it still definitely had some jank to the combat that could be frustrating during certain moments.Updated 5.5 Months Ago

The love I have for this game is out of this world. This was my first Assassin's Creed game and one of my first Xbox 360/console games. My first console was an Xbox 360 E that I received for Christmas in 2013. Along with the Xbox, I also received this game & Minecraft. So this was part of my introduction to open world games & games in general other than Nintendo DS games. I vividly remember seeing one of the trailers with Edward running across the Havana rooftops and instantly thinking "Wow, that game looks so cool". Little did I know that I'd fall in love with the Assassin's Creed series and continue to play the games to this day. Super glad my introduction to the series was the one game in the series that officially introduced naval combat as a game mechanic. I still find myself playing this now and then, so much so that I had to purchase the game again & platinum the game on Playstation 4 solely because I missed the game so much since the Xbox 360 days. That being said, the platinum for this game was a massive pain in the ass because of those damned multiplayer trophies. I will forever hold an extreme dislike for whoever decided having a trophy where you are required to reach level 55 in multiplayer was a good idea. And doing so in 2023 was no easy task, let me tell you. Regardless, I found myself in a wholesome experience when I was forced to gather some people through psnprofiles.com who were, like myself at the time, going for the platinum and only needed the multiplayer trophies for said platinum. I got to meet some new people and talk to them about the series as a whole while we grinded for said trophies. It was such a chill experience, and the whole meeting new people just to get all the trophies for everyone in the group situation added even more value to this beauty of a game that I did not expect to find. As the day went on and we all progressed through the trophies, I couldn't help but feel a sense of community of people who still adore the "old" Assassin's Creed games for what they are as we all reflected on our favorite Assassin's Creed game of all time, and things like that. Even if the trophy hunting group was merely a handful of people playing together and helping each other out. It was still nice to chat it up with people I didn't know before and suffer through the pain that is acquiring the platinum, together :)
Hands down the best Assassin's Creed game in my humble opinion. This is one of those games that you can come back to years down the road upon completing it, and still be able to fully replay it if you so desire. Alternatively, you could also simply hop back on this game after a while and sail the West Indies while listening to some sea shanties your crew sings with a passion as a form of meditation. I do not listen to guided meditations anymore, I simply listen to the sounds of the sea as I sail through the ocean as Edward Kenway. The story, the gameplay, and the emotions that the story made me feel as a kid, and still to this very day, are something I will never forget.
Shoutout Blackbeard/Thatch >:)

Assassin's Creed IV: Black FlagPontos positivos:
- Ambientação: Sensacional se passando nas ilhas que ficam situadas no Caribe, são muito bem representadas com praias, florestas e mares;
- Gráficos: É excelente e muito bonito, o mapa em sí é incrível, o mar um dos melhores já feitos e você consegue ter a sensação de litoral com suas praias e mares com uma ótima fotografia que te remete a isso;
- História: Boa, começar por esse jogo a probabilidade de ficar perdido no começo da história é grande, mas com o desenrolar do jogo você vai se situando;
- Mundo aberto: Tem bastante liberdade para poder subir em edifícios, casas, navios, descobrir ilhas, navegar pelo mar, caçar animais, explorar tesouros em ilhas e até debaixo do mar;
- Missões: São boas e tem a possibilidade de fazer novamente caso não tenha completado um objetivo secundário;
- Caça de animais: Seja em terra ou no mar tem bastante tipos de animais que você pode caçar para confeccionar equipamentos e roupas;
- Modo furtivo: Muito bom, bem desafiador planejar como vai fazer tal missão sem ser detectado;
- Protagonista: Carismático, você acaba tendo uma simpatia pelo jeito dele;
- Combate em terra: Funciona bem e é mais divertido que os anteriores ao AC III, podendo se usar espada, armas de fogo, bombas de fumaça e tantos outros equipamentos;
- Combate marítimo: Batalhas entre navios que é sem dúvida a coisa mais divertida do jogo, com desafios de navios lendários que em que cada um tem o seu ponto forte e fraco;
- Customização e equipamentos: É possível equipar seu navio deixando cada vez melhor, além obter espadas e armas melhores conforme a progressão do game e também obter novas roupas para o protagonista conforme a coletagem de itens.
Pontos negativos:
- Missões de seguir: Essas missões de seguir o inimigo sem ser visto é muito demorada e um erro tem que começar tudo de novo;
- Missões fora do animus: São chatas e dão uma quebrada no ritmo do game.

A peculiar twist on the AC saga, it could easily be the end of the license of how dangerous and expensive this opus was, but it is a danger that nowadays industries don't do enough.Pirates, boats, and fishing are the key content here, without stealing the "stealth" and the "agency" (I don't know how to say it otherwise) that the games give you. You can assault a boat with your crew or go alone, but when your crew comes you have to pay attention to your leaders and cabin boys, at the end of a base assault or boat raid you can decide to add the crew to yours, the ship to your company.
Also a little "macro" mini-game where with your newly acquired boats you can seek out items, loots, and new things to add to your everyday gameplay.
An awesome twist, had plenty of new content, and met their expectations. Can't wait for a remake, or, even, a new Opus? Who knows.

After playing Liberation, this game was a god-send. Edward is just as awesome as Ezio, believe it or not. The story told is fantastic, being a pirate is as awesome as it should be, and the world is simply amazing. All the islands are full of life, especially the ones with named cities. Those are a lot of fun to discover and explore. The ship component of the game was masterfully done. From the combat to the upgrading and the sea shanties. Such a fun game. Plus, I can swim now!Freedom Cry - 7/10
