This game is a spinoff of RE, taking a more action-oriented route as opposed to slow horror and ridiculous bosses. This is a serviceable third-person shooter, but if you wanted another traditional RE game, look elsewhere.Updated 9 Months Ago

Surprisingly serviceable. I can tell what they wanted to do but were unfortunately pushed to make it more action oriented. It's a fun game and especially cool as this is the first time seeing Raccoon city in full 3DUpdated 1 Year Ago

I'll be honest, this game is kinda terrible and probably deserves a much lower score than the one I gave it. However, it's a blast if you play it in co-op with a full squad. 2/10 if you play it solo, 5.5/10 if you play it in co-op.Don't play the expansions. They are borderline unplayable.

Much of me somewhat likes this game, as it certainly has some high points. The concept is an interesting one (an alternate universe where Umbrella wins the Raccoon City fiasco by deleting all evidence and eliminating all main players of the games), and the game is, at times, genuinely very fun to play. When you're equipped with a Shotgun and a powerful Handgun (which needs to be 'bought', annoyingly enough), hordes of zombies are an absolute blast to go against, weaving your way through them, blasting them away one-by-one..it's almost like that hallway scene from RE: Vendetta (the CG movie), it's that awesome. There are moments of tension during the quiet moments, with some well done background audio such as gunshots and screams, some of the boss fights are engaging, the FMV sequences use some excellent CGI and some (but not all) of the music is quite good, even great. However, the game has a lot of problems as well, including many fundamental elements. For one thing, you spend half the game fighting against other humans, and they are armored in ways that are resistent to the type of weapons that are best against zombies and other monsters like Lickers or Hunters; this might not be a problem, but you can only have one pistol and one primary gun, so you need to swap out with a random gun lying around and HOPE that your primary weapon is where you left it when you go back for it. The game also looks really bad at times, sometimes due to really bad animations, sometimes due to really low-resolution texturing, and I honestly don't think the game has ANY Motion Blur whatsoever, making all of the uglier assets crystal-clear. The gunplay is made worse by the fact that some enemies will go into 'cover' with most of their bodies sticking out but if you shoot their exposed portions, they aren't hit.. This wouldn't be so annoying except for the fact that you are not afforded the same. Sometimes you can shoot someone in between wooden boards of a wall, other times you can't even shoot them through an open space over a short wall, as your bullets will instead just impact the wall, or rather, impact about 3 feet ABOVE the wall, in a random aerial bullet explosion. Honestly, the gunplay aspect is simply not good at all, but it takes up almost half of the game, and this is where the game goes wrong. This is made worse by the fact that the game is 7 missions long, the first 6 being a good hour long on first play, so there are almost no missions that are “more fun to replay” than others, as they're all hampered with the same strengths and weaknesses. And lastly, there's bits where you need to stand and fight against a boss, and other times where you need to run, and sometimes it switches between these without notifying you. Worse, these bosses sometimes implement really sloppy joystick-style QTEs, with the first boss, William Birkin, being easily the worst offender – honestly his battle is just awful, no matter how you prepare yourself. He will sometimes throw you down and hit you while you're on the ground subtracting half your health before the battle even starts, and sometimes, if he knocks you down via a charge, he will hit you like another 3-4 times before you get back up, and one of these times he killed me during this after knocking me down at full health. Mind you, I was wearing upgraded armor at the time as well.. But, luckily, the rest of the bosses are generally more entertaining, and when the game isn't running into these lifeless and frustrating or dull moments, it's actually quite a lot of fun. If you've ever wanted to have a T-Virus Outbreak simulation, where you go from location to location and they're full of plenty of zombies, this game will certainly give you some satisfaction, if you're able to look past the problems.Updated 3 Years Ago

First of all this game can be played in 2021 - just search on Youtube how to get it running it is quire simple. There are also guides in the Steam Community that are straight forward.OVERALL 2 out of 5 START:
- 4/5 ONLY BECAUSE OF NEMESIS
- 1/5 Stars for the Gameplay IF YOU PLAY ALONE it sucks
If you have at least 2 Friends to play this game it is quite OK.
THIS GAME IS NON CANON
If you buy it alos get the ECHO SIX Pack 1 and 2 - it doubles the playtime and it's worth the money.

This game is really really bad. It barely works due to games for windows live, although it is still playable as of April 18th, 2021. Since you can't play the main campaign with anyone else you have to play it solo with your AI teammates. They are dumb as a rock and pretty much useless. This game can be very challenging even on the easiest difficulty. The story is pretty bland with nothing really happening, the cover system is horrible, and the shooting could be better. The DLC missions are 100x better than the main game, however, that's still not enough to justify playing this horrible game. I would recommend skipping this one because I don't think it's canon anyway.Updated 3 Years Ago

Just a very mediocre game overall. It has some neat fanservice for RE fans and I can imagine coop multiplayer session can be fun, but looking at it objectively, it's janky, very short, has a lame story and isn't all that interesting. It doesn't really bring anything new to the table (aside from four player coop I guess) and exclusively re-using monsters from previous games isn't exactly exciting.I can only recommend this if you desperately want a coop shooter and really like the RE universe. In solo it's barely worth playing in my opinion, though I wasn't having a straight up terrible time.

A third person shooter that promised a new experience from the perspective of Umbrella, everything went wrong. Although the control is functional, the title doesn't offer anything new; the action is repetitive and tiresome, the story didn't bring what it promised and badly changed things in the original story that don't work, everything is derived in walking and shooting if nothing else in between.Updated 5 Years Ago

Given the huge amount of potential the developers of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City had to work with, it's disappointing how little of it was actually realized. On several occasions I was legitimately surprised by the mention of the name William Birkin or the familiar sound of picking up an herb, having long forgotten that this was supposed to be a Resident Evil game. The terrible AI, the lackluster locations and the complete lack of atmosphere or memorable characters destroy what could have been a brilliant offshoot. In the end, Operation Raccoon City is little more than a poor man's SOCOM, and a destitute man's Resident Evil.Updated 12 Years Ago
