Zero playthrough. This was really fun, the only downside being the final boss requiring you to fight the two previous bosses, both of which become glorified time wasters when you figure them out. Oh and that stupid fight with the general as Zero. I honestly think I just got lucky with that one because he just spammed an attack that left him vulnerable to wall clinging and attackingUpdated 3.5 Months Ago

Never making it past the 8 main bosses as a kid is, apparently, a major part of why I've thought this game was so good for so long. The last 4 bosses are all truly awful.Updated 3.5 Months Ago

Played on Legacy Collection on PS2Well that was a cakewalk compared to the goliath Mega Man 9 I did previously. This is probably the easiest Mega Man game I played, all of which are X5, X, and 9. This isn't really a bad thing, if anything it makes it a good game for newer players of the series. Mechanic wise, it's identical to X, but with new levels and abilities. This game I believe is also the first time you get to Play as Zero, however unlike X5 you can't switch back and forth, you go through the whole game on separate save files. Zero has his own abilities and a completely different move set, which I'll definitely try out when I decide to beat this game again.
Well, since this game is basically just new content compared to X, I'll state some notable parts. This game actually has no missables, which is always a bonus. The stages were overall good, with my personal favorite being Bio Laboratory and the worst being Marine Base. Marine Base sucks as it's a gimmick level where you ride a bike instead, and has pretty much nothing to do with the base game. The bosses are all pretty much standard Mega Man stuff, but on the easy side. Magma Dragoon is entirely a Street Fighter easter egg, all of his attacks are ripped straight from Street Fighter and even the haduken voice clip! Split Mushroom was pretty funny, since he's a mushroom, apparently his moves are illusions, aparently making him a magic mushroom. On a random note, in the Cyber Space stage getting the S ranks was fun, I even did it without any upgrades as I didn't have any at the time, and apparently got the super overpowered helmet upgrade at the beginning of the whole game haha! Also, I should mention the upgrades in here are POWERFUL. The helmet gives you infinite weapon energy on normal shots, the boots let you hover, you can save 4 charged shots at once, fun stuff. A very important thing to note about this is it is FAR more lenient on checkpoints than older games, as it only sends you halfway back through the level if you run out of lives instead of the entire thing. Hell, it even gives you a checkpoint before the final boss after re-fighting all 8 bosses which is a life saver, especially compared to 9. The weapons aren't really anything to write home about this time.
Overall, this game was great and I would recommend it to anyone, especially those wanted to get into Mega Man due to it's lower difficulty. I'll probably update this review when I play it again as Zero one day. While not part of the actual game itself, the Legacy Collection on PS2 did something I really like: You can use a PS1 controller. While you can use PS1 controllers on PS1 games on the PS2, I've never seen a PS2 game allow a PS1, even if the analog sticks aren't used. This was an absolute pleasure, as due to the weird way I hold the controller when I play Mega Man the right joystick was in the way of my hand, so I used a PS1 controller instead.
X Rating: 0/5 - No, not X the character, how sexualized the game is, and it has NOTHING.

I think, I prefer X4 over X1. Although it's pretty close.X4 feels so incredibly smooth to play. Charge shots from your buster has never felt better and it just feels fun to jump around and shoot. Collectables feel easier to find then X1 but like X1 at some point you just have to pull up a guide and finish off and check off the rest of the collectables. Every X game really needs some sort of indication to show that all items have been found in a stage would make things a lot less repetitive without a guide. Good music, exciting levels, tight bosses, the usual Mega Man staples.
Then there's the annoying and disappointing stuff, the selection of weapons this time around suck. Very few of them feel good to use because of how weak they are compared to the mega buster. They feel a bit too situational and not powerful enough on common enemies. I really like the fire attack though.
The bike stage sucks and there's not enough screen space to react to things and you can easily jump into pits and die.
Also once again the final boss is a massive difficulty spike compared to the rest of them. Where if you want to stand a chance you better have the two sub-tanks plus grind for energy to fill them up.
Despite these shortcomings X4 is still a fast and exciting platformer.

Holy fucking shit. After the massive disappointment I faced with X2 and especially X3, my motivation to continue the X series dwindled. But then, from the darkness, X4 came, grabbed me by the hand and took me to an island inhabited with beautiful naked ladies for me to breed. What I'm trying to say is holy sweet black baby Jesus, this is a superb fucking game. With X2 being a little bland and X3 being tedious as fuck, X4 took all the flaws the last two games had, strapped it to a nuclear warhead and detonated it in space. X4 is nothing but fast paced, no bullshit difficulty, beautiful graphics that hold up superbly, extravaganza of pure side scrolly shooty action. The only thing and I mean the ONLY thing that I can really critique is that if you use all your sub tanks in the sigma fight and lose, you'll have to face the 8 mavericks again.Speaking of bosses, there isn't a single boss that I found to be bullshit. All of them were not only fight to fun but also reasonably fair. Sigma this time around was also very fair I found. Yes he has 3 forms but the first form is easy as fuck, second is also pretty easy so long as you make his scythe hit the wall instead of the floor and even his final form I found to be pretty easy. This game's legendarily atrocious voice acting is amazingly bad to the point that it's hilarious. Yeah Zero's girlfriend dies in his arm but Zero screaming "WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOR" in the worst voice possible will always be funny.
All in all this is truly a ridiculously good game that saved me from wanting to quit the X series. I'll most definitely be playing this again soon as I only did Zero's route. 10/10, the only mega man game that I've given a perfect score. Maybe on my next playthrough I'll find something that'll piss me off.

Que jogo gostoso de jogar! Alguns bons desafios, level design bom e simples, fases rápidas e legais de bater, chefes bacanas. Me diverti d mais. Fazia tempo que não jogava um Megaman.Updated 1 Year Ago

Very standard fare gameplay-wise for the series. Fully playable Zero is the standout, but his mechanics are half-baked. Voice acting is infamously bad. Graphically, the leap from SNES to PSX was handled amazingly and the game is one of the best looking 2D games on the platform.Updated 1 Year Ago

Another Mega Man X game, this time though it was a lot easier than any previous game and the music for the most part was all very forgettable. I liked how the story improved in how detailed it was but other than that nothing really stood out in this game.Updated 1 Year Ago

Mega Man X4 is an amazing 2D platformer that has it all. Fantastic level design, gameplay, graphics, and music. The level design is perfect with few instant death traps and plenty of fun sections. Additionally, every level rewards exploration with hidden paths that contain goodies and upgrades.
The gameplay for both X and Zero feels fantastic. Wall jumping and dashing are fun no matter what game you play. Just make sure to change the control set up so you can charge, dash, and jump at the same time.
My only gripe with this game is its final boss, Sigma. His first and second phases are fun, but then the third phase starts. He has waaay too much health and his moveset is just really annoying to play against even after you’ve learned it.

X4 is a massive step up from the previous 2 Mega Man X games. They brought back the A team for this one. The graphics are smooth and the gameplay feels good. The devs spent a lot of time developing interesting levels and mavericks. The story, along with the video, feel like a lot more time was spent on it.The last time I played this was on the anniversary Gamecube collection, and I found that I had strong memories of several levels, which I didnt experience with X2 or X3.
The game didnt over do it with the difficulty, instead being very approachable and not particularly annoying, unlike the latter parts of X2/X3.
Overall, great entry. The only real downside is the lack of captions on the cutscenes.

I'm loyal to the 16 bit graphic on MMX 1-3 so 4's style has always been slightly undesirable to me. However, the sprite work is still exceptional and really it comes down to personal preference and has no barring on the gameplay itself, which delivers. X4 is top notch X series platforming with fantastic music and takes advantage of the newer console hardware to deliver better worldbuilding. It is sandwiched between the lackluster middle child of X3 and the superior (to me) X5, so its easy to miss the real delight this title can bring. Unbalanced boss difficulty (some are far too easy while Sigma kicks my ass) and poor voice acting weight the game down a bit but it is still a classic Mega Man title.Updated 3.5 Years Ago

Probably my favorite Mega Man game so far. The jump to the PS1 really worked in the game's favor because it looks really great. Some dislike that the game is easier than previous games, but I personally didn't mind. The mid-stage checkpoints just helped to prevent tedium while obtaining power-ups and the bosses weren't that much easier or harder than in previous installments.Especially the final three-phased fight against Sigma and also against the colonel were pretty tough. I actually think the final Sigma fight was the best one so far, really challenging but also fair if you learn the patterns.

round(85)Wow, this is a nostalgic trip back to the '90s for me. I didn't know so much of this game would have stuck with me compared to the first, but I must have played the heck out of it. The animation -- !! I forgot just how much this wow'd me despite not jumping onto the 3D bandwagon. X4's a bit of a return to form, somewhere between X and X2 in quality. Most of the collectable insanity is simplified and less reliant on backtracking.
The level design is more consistently superb a la the original, tho there are still a couple weird hiccups (Jet Stingray, Cyber Peacock). The bosses are -- except for Split Mushroom, who I just loathe for whatever reason -- among the best in the series...even if a little easy.
And holy beans, X4 is a walk in the park after the first 3 increasingly-difficult games. Boss patterns are a breeze -- even Sigma's.
I'll have to replay again as Zero soon. I played as X for this replay. 8)~
So far, all good:
X > X4 >= X2 > X3

A fun addition to the X series. Being able to play through the whole game as Zero added a brand new element to the game and provides a different type of strategy. I wasn't too keen on the story, but it was impressive (with the cutscenes) during its time. My only issue with the game are the controls. It's not as refined/tight as the previous X games on the SNES. I had issues with wall jumping and the timing of those jumps. Other than that, it is still a fun game to play.Updated 6.5 Years Ago

A good followup to the SNES classics, but not quite as tight gameplay. This is the best of the PS era X games, but is far too easy and the powerups are essentially in plain sight. Still a very fun game that will become a favorite with some X fans.Updated 11 Years Ago

Up to this game, it is the best story telling of all MMX games and it includes animated cutscenes and good voice-acting. Two playable characters? YAY! Not as much stuff to collect as its predecessor (MMX3), but still a good amount of it (and very cleverly hidden!). Play it!Updated 12 Years Ago
