Solid game. It definitely builds on the MegaMan X formula, but they cranked the difficulty. To the point where it's just unfair, which isn't cool from Capcom. Normally they're really good about being fair with the difficulty. When you get hit, it's your fault. But not in this game. Some of it is just supreme bullshit. The weapons are fun and have some creative uses.
I can't decide if I like the X-hunters being included or not.
It was still fun and full of great gameplay. The music was rocking. But sometimes, the controls felt a little more loose and less precise than the first entry. Then, the final boss was a joke. It was so much easier than the first game. Kinda disappointing. This is definitely the inferior title.Updated 2 Months Ago

A lot more robust than X1, and parts of it feel like a response to that game. More challenging overall, although sometimes it feels a little too punishing if you don’t know what’s coming. Didn’t have a strong desire to play through multiple times like with X1.Updated 2.5 Months Ago

While not as good as Mega Man X, I still liked this game. It's Mega Man X gameplay and it's as fun as always. Now I didn't like some things like the weapon selection this around or a few difficulty spikes. Other than that nothing that bad that comes to mind. Really just a solid Mega Man game but I'm not crazy about it.Updated 4.5 Months Ago

As cool as the first one, but better balanced. My choice if you want to give a try to the X Mega Man side-series.Updated 5 Months Ago

+ Snappy controls and overall speed of the previous game retained- Horrendously over-punishing level design
- Depressingly weak weapon selection
- Obtuse secrets
- X Hunters and Zero parts isolate too far from the main game and get you virtually nothing

X2 takes one step forward and two steps back compared to X1. X2 hides its power ups in places that absolutely require a guide, it has more annoying level design in some areas with multiple insta death spike traps and leaps of faith, and most of the weapons are lame compared to X1.
However, it’s still a good game for anyone looking for more Mega Man X. The final boss is less infuriating than X1’s final boss thankfully, there’re plenty of easy farm spots to fill your sub tanks, and the other bosses are more varied and complicated than X1.

A pretty good followup to the first game in the series, and gives us more of the same. The music is still excellent, controls are still tight, and bosses feel more challenging. Not as re-playable as the first in the series, Mega Man X, it is still an excellent entry, and worth a play-through.Updated 1.5 Years Ago

Like the first game is enjoyable and rewarding and the search for collectables , but is starting tu feel stale ,the level design is a bit to tedious in some levels . The armor is pretty good with neat abilities and utilities , the new threat the x hunters are good fights and is cool to see continuation of the events of the previous game. Pretty good game over all.Updated 2 Years Ago

it was mega man X but with worse level design. There was also a lot more weird nonsense in terms of actually maxxing out your character which was a little weird. Other than that, it still is a mega man X game which means at its core it is still a solid video game. I'd still just reccomend playing the first one over this.Updated 2.5 Years Ago

A good Mega Man X game, but doesn't quite stand up to the first. The expansions feel a bit harder to obtain than the first game, and the enemies are less memorable than X1. In most other ways it feels like a step up in design.
My only real gripe is that the Legacy collection save system just saves a password, which forces you to restart the Sigma Fortress if you turn off the game and Load your save. Kind of half-assed.

I'm just gonna go ahead and say that this game is indeed inferior to the original. The stages and bosses are cool but it all feels so meh when compared to the splendor of the first. The moment this game really dropped the ball for me though was some of the bosses and the third X-hunter base stage. Serges was bar none the worst offender, he seems practically unbeatable if you have no sub tanks to spare. Both of his appearances are annoying and not fun to fight at all. The third sigma stage with that stupid ass time wasting section with the moving platform was where I drew the line. Not a bad game but not even close to as good as the first, tbh I doubt I'll ever play this game again. 8/10Updated 3 Years Ago

Felt like a step up from Mega Man X, I thought the weapons were a bit cooler and the bosses felt a bit more fair overall. Especially Sigma. Wasn't stoked about the return of a boss rush at the end, but since the bosses are very much doable with their weakness and full life I thought it was okay.Updated 4 Years Ago

round(85)It's really hard to pinpoint why X2 just doesn't hold the same magic as the original. The bosses are (mostly) on par with the original 8; the X Hunters are a great addition; the number of awesome collectables and secrets just had me giddy. But also, like, it's just a bit bloated. Some of the levels are more of a drag than iconic. I don't think it's just nostalgia -- something is just slightly off with this sequel.
One thing it does really well -- for the standards of the time and the audience, at least -- is story. It builds a really suggestive, deep mythology with so little, and far beyond anything in the classic Mega Man series. I loved pouring over the robot designs and thinking of all the lost time between Mega Man and X -- and what all eventually transpired between Light and Wily, etc., as a kid. :)

Much weaker than X and weaker than X3. Somehow it felt hard but in a bad way. Annoying enemy placements and boss fights weren't that great. Didn't like the extra bosses in levels.Updated 6 Years Ago

An amazing follow up to the original. The addition of the X-Hunters and fighting them in the middle of the starting levels was a nice touch. While not quite as good as the first, still an excellent game.Updated 8 Years Ago

Although I knew going into the game that nothing would be able to surpass the first Mega Man X, I was actually more disappointed than I expected to be. The plot contains promise, but fails to deliver. I also wasn't fond of the new direction in level design--I could tell they wanted to make the levels less linear, and they achieved that goal, but it resulted in me being unable to construct a cognitive map of the levels which allowed the regions in the first game to become such classics. Not a bad game, just disappointing.Updated 11 Years Ago
