I grew up a computer gamer (started on the Commodore 64) but these days I prefer consoles for gaming because of the ease of setup. I only buy small indie games for the PC because these are usually not available on consoles. Still plenty of annoyances. Just last week I couldn't get Dear Esther to display on our projector, at all. After 15 minutes of fiddling with resolution etc. settings I just gave up and played it on my old CRT.
I'm a Linux user, so if I want to geek out with settings etc., I have plenty of opportunity to do that :D, but when I want to sit down and game, I want to sit down and game, right away. Maybe the rumored Steambox will offer that for PC gaming... Steam itself is not there yet, not even on Windows, though it does come in handy.

I've always played console/portable games when growing up... it's only until recently that I've even started playing computer games, thanks to Steam. I still greatly prefer consoles, but I'm not against playing PC games, either.

I'm a huge PC gamer. One of the reasons is because I'm not fond of new-gen games, I prefer to play retro games (and to do that I use the power of emulators!) - but even when I want to play new games I can simply load up Steam and buy them. Sure, some games are exclusive to consoles, but consoles are also too expensive and all that.
Nowadays I have a very short attention span, so I always stop my gaming to check the HLTB forums, my FB profile, watch a movie, watch some YT videos, talk with my friends on Skype/MSN, etc. etc.

Mainly PC. I was a pure console gamer through most of my childhood, an adamant supporter of Sega, up until the Dreamcast and Sega's withdrawl from the hardware race. I've picked up consoles other than Sega systems but since the release of Half Life the PC has become by "platform" of choice.
PC games just became so much cheaper when the XBox and Playstation generations "overshadowed" it, then, with the emergence of Steam, I found myself with a game library larger than all my old consoles combined for a fraction of the price. Exclusives now are the only real draw to any console, some more than others, and I intend to acquire and play them at some point, it's all just a matter of time and money.

i used to be mainly console (ps1 ps2 ps3) but i slowly got into pc gaming starting with unreal tournament '99 back in the day. and ever since then i started to slowly lean towards pc gaming, until just recently i have been going HARD on pc gaming. i only have 2 games for console now.

I use both, but primarily PC. Growing up it was mostly consoles, but now I am usually on the PC anyway and I prefer the convenience. Plus now that I have a wife and two kids always taking up the living room, it is even more of a reason to use PC instead. Plus the PC just has way more games and my favorite exclusives are on PC. Graphics don't mean much to me, but that's a nice bonus too. Oh, and I'm near sighted so playing from the couch isn't really an option for me (I hate glasses), so it is either sitting on the floor in front of the TV (or in a beanbag chair) or leaned back in an expensive desk chair.

I work with pretty high end computer systems, high end video cards, and PC games all day at work. I'm done with most of the tinkering by the time I come home. :P I could go make an Eyefinity 3xRadeon HD 7970 Trifire + Ivy Bridge i7 system right now, so anything I could afford to make at home will really pale in comparison. x_x
So I'm mostly a console gamer, except where it really doesn't make sense like MMO's and RTS's.
The computer I have now I got while I was in college, and around the time I was studying abroad in Germany. So I really wanted the mobility. I still have that laptop and am trying to keep it going as long as I can. Until then it just seems more economical to go with consoles. Not to mention I don't have to worry about trying to back up saves, if it's even possible when the ~once a year format usually rolls around.
I also enjoy consoles because of the ability to preserve games. I'm a collector, and I'd like to always have my games. No online authentication needed, so when the servers inevitably go down one day I'll still be able to go back and play offline.
With PC it seems digital is the way to go, with Steam. I like and use Steam, but I also love physical boxes. Steam has some great sales, but so do console games if you're patient and pay attention.
Simplicity, affordability, and persistence are why I mostly do consoles, basically.
I -really- like handheld systems. The whole package is there, so there's no guesswork about any part of your setup. The developer knows absolutely everything you have to work with. The best example of this is with music games. Getting a music game to work on a modern HD setup can be a pain with all of the processing delays. With a handheld its constant across, and is factored into development.
I love my couch too. :3

I grew up as a console / handheld gamer until late 2003 when I got highspeed internet access and was introduced to F2P MMO's (Gunbound, Ragnarok Online Private Servers, MapleStory, etc...)
2004 I finally got out from behind my restrictive firewall and played mass amounts of HL mods and BF1942, (And the first COD).
I still remained a pretty dedicated console gamer though, until around 2008. I got an Xbox 360 for Christmas (07) and text was unreadable at best, cropped the image at worst and it was pretty much unplayable, so I stuck with my PS2 mostly. Moved shortly after and my PS2 was in a box till last summer and well I got my 360 working but by then I wasn't too interested in it. So I mostly played on the PC / Emulators. After a while with all the connectivity such as Vent, Xfire, Steam Ingame chat and such. I just don't feel right when I'm on a console these days. I personally blame the 360 for killing console gaming for me.
I will say this Console users don't have to put up with all the BS (Okay I can't play my 360 without getting dreams of a redring), but PC games just have a different feel with them. We can mod them, we can tweak them (Yep linux user here), and well they're more portable. This past semester at college I brought my laptop with me and was playing the original DMC on an emulator. I have my PS2 hooked up but I still prefer playing it on my computer.
Anyways to each their own.

I was into consoles till this year and now I am more on the PC using Steam. But I do play classic consoles to new consoles even handhelds. So pretty much everything but I do recommend PC over consoles. By the way can't wait for Crysis 3 and Guild Wars 2.

I prefer consoles even though i started on computers (commodore 64 actually someone else also mentioned this one) both have their upsides and downsides but right now i prefer playing on my 46" tv as opposed to the smaller computer screen, i like to sit away from the TV with surround sound when the kids are not asleep, and do prefer a controller to a keyboard. All can be done on a computer but is easier on console. I definitely agree some games are better on PC than console.

I like both. They have equally good games, but if there was a game on both PC and console and I had to choose between the two, I'd choose console just because I like having a physical controller. When it comes to recording for youtube though, it's a lot easier to record on a computer screen than setting up a dazzle or something like that.

Oh my god, a fairly peaceful pc vs. console thread. I applaud you all.

Just kidding. Anyway, my personal preference is consoles because I do like being able to just get into the game (almost) immediately and also I like that I have hardly ever had problems with the hardware not accommodating any of the software, whereas on PC I have to adjust some settings. That being said, I still love playing games on PC because it has a much wider selection of unique indie games, and to be fair I haven't exactly played enough current-gen games on the PC to properly judge.

Personally, I like PC because the games are often cheaper - the ones that are multi-platform anyway. Retail console games are more likely to be on clearance, but digitally, PC games are cheaper. So I get a lot of multi-platform games that way, and also the really interesting PC exclusives/indie games. That seems to be another plus of PCs. I can mostly get the same games on PC as Xbox so I kind of stopped buying for that, but I still buy PS3 console games. They have exclusives worth buying IMO, and between that and PC, a lot of my grounds are covered.

I think PC games are cheaper more often and more frequently than console games, but console games get cheap quickly if you know where to look. :)

Yeah. Totally true. All about where you look.

PC, hands down.
The games look better, are usually cheaper & give you more control options (mouse/keyboard works great for FPSs & strategy games, gamepad for action/arcade games, flight stick for flight sims).
Plus mods & trainers let me decide how I want to play the game rather than just how the devs intended. I also enjoy the faster load times of PC games.
I do own & enjoy my PS3 quite a bit but if a game is releasing on consoles & PC, I will always get the PC version (even if the PC version is scheduled to come out weeks or even months later).
The one advantage I'll concede to the consoles is the whole plug-and-play aspect (pop the disc in & go). When something goes wrong with a PC game, it can go very wrong (ie crashes to desktop, lost saves, etc), but when everything is working (which is most of the time for me), it is GLORIOUS! :)
