Just started Kao the Kangaroo: Round 2. After just retiring the first one, I can say that much improvement was made with the sequel.

In the middle of Island of the Mad by Laurie King. I'm enjoying this book more than I thought I would... despite accidentally starting this series at book 15.

Danganronpa - With the genre I should be all over this game, but I’m just… not. I’ve played the prologue to 3 and looked up other titles and I’m still not moved to delve further.

Castlevania - It’s probably a “get good” thing for all I know but even when playing with save states I keep feeling like I’d have more fun playing something else.

As a bit of a series completionist myself, even I am planning on skipping the first two Zelda games and picking Link to the Past as the oldest game in the series I plan on playing. Zelda 2 has bad reviews and Zelda 1 seems like it would be way too obscure and confusing for me to navigate.

This was actually a surprise for me… while no game has perfect reviews, I didn’t think there was a Zelda entry that many retired.

It's an old game (Quest for Glory) but something about how the combat looks intimidating. Maybe it's because it looks like it's coming right at you. The pixel art for it is very nice though. And somehow, the more I hear about the first Zelda, I feel like things are going to go very wrong if/when I try it. The Lynels do not help.

The True History of the Strange Brigade. I've never played the game since I wasn't interested in a solo run, but it was interesting enough to give the book a try.

Had fun with everything I played. The only minor complaint I have is for Severed as the payoff for true ending wasn't much but it was still a good game.

I’ve been browsing through GBA games and saw that there are other versions of Final Fantasy games, including IV. I have the PS versions but I’m a little curious about the others.

In all seriousness, though, my game:book completion ratio is also roughly 1:1, but I think the fact that I only read physical books (while I don't mind purchasing digital copies of games or emulating older titles) makes it so that my library of unplayed video games FAR outweighs my library of unread books—when it comes to what I already own, at least. I've got less than 10 novels sitting on the shelf waiting for me to crack open at any given time, but I'll sooner die of old age than touch every game I own a digital copy of.

You know, sometimes it feels like my backlog is fueled by buyer's remorse. My wishlists on Goodreads and Steam are getting dusty.

I could say the same thing for some of my physical games and my library “to read” list… which for the latter is probably thematically appropriate.

Currently reading Notes on an Execution by Danya Kukafka. I originally picked it up as one of two "beach reads" alongside the English translation of Las malas by Camila Sosa Villada, but I ended up only having enough vacation downtime for that one.

Since this is my first post in here, I wanted to say that I'm glad to see there's a bigger intersection between readers and gamers than my environment would have me believe. I only have a few gamer friends I feel like I can talk about books with (and vice versa).

Yep, a lot of us read too! Honestly, my book backlog is SO much worse than my game backlog. I have stuff I haven’t even catalogued. I’m trying to stick to the habit of 1 book and then 1 game, but there is bleed over now and then.

It's a really tempting bundle but I think these grapic novels would end up on my book backlog for quite a while and I don't want to buy stuff (neither games nor books) that I'm not going to read/play immediately. I think I'll pass on the bundle.

I'm still trying to understand the basics here. Like I cannot download various manga from amazon to my kindle. They are available on amazon.com but not on amazon.de and I am not able/allowed to buy them there. And on amazon.de some (like berserk) are only available in German and I would prefer to read them in English. Others cost more (!) as a kindle download than in print. Seems like I have to resort to buying the manga in print. I've ordered the first volumes of Blood on the tracks and Goodnight Punpun. I understand that there's a lot of work put into these but the prospect of spending over 130 Euros (!) for the complete Blood on the tracks series is not amazing. I also coudn't find these on Ebay.

Humble Bundle does books too, and it looks like they have something for graphic novels often. The current bundle has some horror stuff.

Looking back on it, I had a love/hate relationship with this game. I would get frustrated when I was having trouble with my pin setup or just by using certain pins. Then I would figure out how the pins worked and how to make a strategy with the setup and I'd be good until I had to re-evaluate my setup. Maybe just when I was getting to like certain characters there would be a setback and I would get upset with them (although this didn't bother me nearly as much as my gameplay troubles). Sometimes I wondered if I would retire it when I couldn't get a certain function to work, but I always wanted to give it just a little more time each time. Soon enough I would figure things out and would be glad that I had patience with it.

I wouldn't say that this was my favorite game, but on reflecting on it after finishing it I did come to appreciate it more. From your review there are some aspects that I could have explored a bit more. At some point I stopped scanning thoughts and I didn't shop too much. I mainly liked how the story developed, although leveling up the pins was a little addicting; finger burn be damned. Neku was very unlikable in the beginning but you did see that he was willing to give people another try (perhaps like I was willing to give the game another try). His character development was enough that it genuinely felt heartbreaking seeing his reaction when I thought he was still stuck in the Underground at the end of the game. And because Neku had decided to give the world around him a second chance, so did Joshua. Perhaps for different reasons, but all the same.

As it's been said that it resonates more strongly with a younger generation, I sort of wonder if would have had a different takeaway if I had played this when it first came out. Maybe yes, maybe no, but I can still admire the positive message it ends with.

It's a bit different with platform games than rpg's.

That said the Egg Console PC88 releases aren't localised either, yet are being sold in the west. They've already released some with lots of text that are untranslated and next week are releasing an untranslated ADV.

I guess if they’ve been releasing them untranslated for a while then people are still playing them… still would have appreciated the translation.

Three Starfy games which used to be Japan exclusive got released on NSO today. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
They don't seem to be translated though.

They do not... as someone who had wanted to play these I was disappointed, and more than a bit puzzled. Why would they make this available for USA when it hasn't been translated? I know you can just screenshot translate but it's not the friendliest solution. A lot were complaining about how USA didn't get Mother 3 too. It does seem like if they brought Starfy over, they would be able to do so with Mother 3, considering that it wasn't translated either?
