Only mark against this game is that some of the side bosses lacked variety. There were a few repeats where other games manage to make each boss different. However, the major bosses in Elden Ring are on another level to anything else I've experienced. Combine that with the lore, world and focus on exploration and it makes for one heck of an experience. Credit to FromSoftware too for being able to balance the game in a way that satisfies souls veterans but also makes it more accessible to newbies like myself.
A modern masterpiece.

I am someone that enjoys a story that is more present throughout the gameplay. Exploring the world was rather uninteresting outside of the areas close to unique out of the way bosses (ex. melania: 10/10 boss fight). Leyndell felt extremely underwhelming. The characters of the world are pretty much non-existent, the vast majority are pretty forgettable (Ranni, Melina, wolf guy, and Alexander are the only characters I found myself caring for as they are also the only characters that are pretty consistently seen throughout the entire game).Updated 1 Day Ago

This was my very first souls-like game, and it got extremely frustrating, but the combat and the number of possibilities with it make it incredibly enjoyable to play. The world is gorgeous, and if you're into it the lore and story are very interesting. Not only that but the number of possible builds you could go for, and the few endings the game has make it extremely re-playable. Gaming never gets better than taking over 300 attempts to beat Malenia. Unfortunately I'm not a huge fan of a lot of the boss move sets, there's just a lot of annoying combo spams (not for all of them though).Updated 2 Days Ago

Excellent game, absolutely recommend. I have played Elden ring more than many other games in my library and am confident in saying that it is one of my top 3 favorite games. From the enemy and boss design to the world building itself, all of them are top-notch, the gameplay is immaculate and my first playthrough will always remain in my memories. In particular, I found the first big castle jaw-dropping in scale and detail and loved to just roam around and enjoy the views and architecture of the world. Boss-battles are mostly unique with some repeating bosses that have a twist each time you encounter them to avoid repetitiveness. The major bosses are well fleshed out with some being truly challenging. At the start of the game I had some difficulties with some regular bosses being too tough for my character level (me being one-shotted or only dealing 1/100'th of their HP with a single attack), this is quickly overcome however, with the game being a lot more lenient to any playstyle after the first area is completed.Updated 2.5 Days Ago

Elden Ring is the perfectly imperfect game... Incredible game all around but in dire need of polishing.I will start by clearing it up. No, it wasn't skill issue, base game is not hard at all. The problem is that I honestly expected one of the best games ever, but the gameplay is on par with a decent Combat RPG on steam.
Camera issues:
The camera is absolutely HORRENDOUS, I've never felt more frustrated in my life in some fights, be it birds, dragons, enemies that move quickly or even just a huge boss, it is an absolute nightmare to try and hit a sword attack on something you can barely see. This made me learn how to manually control the camera, ended up beating many bosses without target lock.
Input Delay:
The input delay is unexplainable, in a game so precise and so punishing for missed inputs, I cannot comprehend how a button queue can get SO DELAYED and so unresponsive, MANY times I thought I was going crazy that inputs weren't triggering, to the point I installed a button recorder and saw that it wasn't me or the controller.
This is even worse on the horse, holy fucking shit that is bad, at some point I started considering that the input delay while mounted was on purpose, because there is no way they could've shipped the game in this state.
Bad Optimization:
Furthermore optimization is bad, firstly we have the 60 fps cap, I have a really good PC, would've been able to run the game on full ultra + RTX above that framerate, but in early areas frames were dropping in such random moments, but not frustrating, but the game is just so ugly... the textures look like PS3 games even on MAX, it felt so fucking weird.
So I decided to play on low and prioritize smooth gameplay, just to find out the game barely performs better and still drops frames.
(I questioned my Elden Ring fanatic friends and they all said it is indeed like this).
Imperfect Open World:
Lastly, I do not think the open world was perfectly executed, I despise Ubisoft-like games that hold your hand, but this game leaves you too much freedom. When I couldn't enter Raya Lucaria Academy the open world became a huge problem, there was simply a huge vast lake with NOTHING on it, and then I found myself lost, and that's when I started asking for help from my friends "What am I supposed to do here" and the game became playable again.
There is simply too much of a huge map with no necessity, too many NPC's that have no purpose, and "Random" ones that are REALLY important, the game indulges you to explore but instead of rewarding you with true progress, you mostly just find useless items and boring dungeons.
The game is so vague that a new player will be mostly guided by the messages, which are an absolute masterpiece, the game feels so much fun reading messages, but they come from a need that shouldn't be there. There were many moments that if a message didn't tell me X information, I simply would NEVER have guessed it, and I am the type of player that always gets nuances and nudges and progresses alone in games.
Still a Good Game:
Yet, I still gave an 8/10... why? Because such a great game deserves way more criticism than your average game, Elden Ring has incomparable potential, if the game had an extra year of polishing, had a little bit more of love and care, maybe I would also be in love.
I had A LOT OF FUN, the challenge of playing is fun, the bosses are (Mostly) incredibly designed and the lore while excessively obscure, is still really interesting.
But I just cannot ignore all the problems, I do not say them from the mouth out, all of the problems listed were a REAL bother in my gameplay, directly impacted in my enjoyment while playing.
In all, a great game that suffers from bad polishing.
Light 8/10.

While impressive at first glance, Elden Ring does not hold up at all against the other entries of Fromsoftware. The open world is beautiful, but very empty, the bosses poorly balanced with most of them feeling very cheap in comparison with other souls games, even if there are a few exceptions.Updated 4.5 Days Ago

FromSoft's most impressive work with incredible gameplay, worldbuilding, and characters although still not my favorite FromSoft game personally. This is due to a lot of the optional content being tedious and the horse not being very fun to use despite being necessary to traverse the world at a reasonable pace. Still a 10 out of 10 compared to every other game like it.Updated 5 Days Ago

Decade defining game. So far the game that will define the 2020s. Some flaws with duo bosses like twin gargoyles but is overwhelmingly overshadowed by how good the game is.Top 5 Bosses:
- Malenia, Blade of Miquella
- Starscourge Radahn
- Maliketh, the Black Blade
- Godfrey, First Elden Lord
- God-devouring Serpent / Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy

So, I've given Elden Ring a solid 15 hours of my time, and I really wanted to like it. I mean, everyone’s been raving about it, right? But honestly, I just can’t get into it.It's not the difficulty that’s the issue—I was ready for the challenge. But every time I start it up, I end up quitting not long after. I’ve relaunched it more times than I can count, hoping that maybe this time it’ll grab me. Spoiler alert: it never does.
There’s something about it that just doesn’t click with me. Maybe it’s the atmosphere, maybe it’s the pacing, or maybe it’s just that I’m not vibing with the world. Whatever it is, the game just isn’t fun for me, and I can’t figure out why.
I know a lot of people love it, and I’m happy for them, but for me, Elden Ring just isn’t it. And that’s okay. Not every game is for everyone, I guess.

Not much needs to be said. I was almost converted, even thought about going back to the Dark Souls games. But once I got to the mountain area and encountered the MUCH tankier enemies and there was no option to level up elsewhere (except that bird cliff cheese method), I fell off. It's silly that because I'm supposed to 'git gud,' but up to that point, the game had allowed me to overlevel and waltz through most of the content without too much difficulty. Then it decided I had to work for it after 75+ hours and I didn't have it in me. I got to explore most of the world, get sucked into the weird lore and fall in love with the harsh but fair combat system. As far as I'm concerned, I got my money's worth and I'll have great memories of my time with it.Updated 1.5 Weeks Ago

Imagine a Dark Souls game plus The Witcher 3, what do you get? This masterpiece. Miyazaki has proven once again that he can make a GOTY-worthy title. This is by far From Software's biggest and most ambitious game as of today. They have expanded their previous game mechanics into an open world with vast exploration and endless discovery that will have you losing track of time. Not only that, but it is also comparably easier than their previous titles, making it much more approachable for new players of this genre. Character designs, stories, world building, soundtracks, etc. are all great. There is only one problem that I've experienced while enjoying this masterpiece. It is the frame rate that stutters on specific areas or boss battles, but nonetheless, I've still completed the game and enjoyed it to the fullest. Definitely one of the best action RPGs and experiences I've ever had. Did the game make me rage? No... (f*ck you, Malenia)Updated 1.5 Weeks Ago

Definitely FromSoftware's magnum opus so far. Infinitely interesting worldbuilding creates the best open world I've ever seen in a game. The combat is, just like FromSoftware's other entries, tight and challenging. Even if the games stays challenging troughout the whole experience, leveling up and fine tuning your build stills makes you feel like you're really getting stronger.Updated 1.5 Weeks Ago

A very good game overall but not my favorite Soulsborne at all due to the bullshit it likes to throw at you (Lack of in-game ways of following nor even remembering engaged quests IN AN OPENWORLD, most frustrating Boss Design of the studio this far AFAIK : Lots of unpredictable or uncannily delayed moves including True Combo Multi-Hits and hard-hitting AoE, along with some F'up Boss Gimmicks), I just feel like past games were fairer in that regard respecting the player while still providing a feeling of "wall to overcome" pretty much gone here.Still the world is a real joy to explore (until you reach the mountaintops at least where it kind of start to feel like "Too Much" after going through Leyndell IMO) and Maliketh just looks too cool

Great game, really fun to challenge all the bosses and finding new items that are well hidden. Combat is very in depth and every combat sequence is different. I have played Dark Souls before but those weren't really for me as the difficulty of those games gave me no enjoyment at all. For some reason Elden Ring is different. Stuck at a boss? doesn't matter, go someplace else! Grind a few levels... get new armor... and try again!
The only thing that I don't understand is the quests... Dark Souls is a linear game so doing a quest there with little to no information to guide you makes sense. In Elden Ring they do this the same way which in my opinion doesn't really work. You talk to an NPC which gives you some information and you are supposed to remember that AND know where to go precisely. Sometimes to progress you need to talk to the same NPC 3 times in a row before he hands you an item. I see what they are trying to do and some people might say it's "charm of the game" but in my opinion it just sucks. If they gave you a little quest log with the latest text they gave you and maybe a miniscule hint that would be miles better. I just did everything with guides, maybe that made my experience a little worse but I don't really care.
Elden Ring is fantastic. I have already started my second playthrough with a friend in the Coop mode and I will be playing the DLC soon too. Hoping the next Fromsoftware game is as great as Elden Ring is!

I'm bad at the game, and I'm probably spending far too much time in the beginner's area of Limgrave, but I'm learning more about how to play/vibe with this game purely from learning how 2D fighting games work. I'm probably never going to be super good at the game, and I'm likely overleveled for getting the full experience of the game, but I'm enjoying the learning process nonetheless.Updated 3.5 Weeks Ago

Best action rpg ive ever played. This was my first souls game (yes I know its not technically a dark souls game stfu) and I am not disappointed at all. The difficulty that people talk about with souls games is greatly overexaggerated. Yes the game is still a big challenge but its not like having your balls dragged through a field of rusty nails challenging like people say it is. It's not unfairly difficult, all deaths are a fault of your own. The fun of it comes from learning from each encounter and getting better at fighting the boss until you finally beat them. The satisfaction from this is unrivalled. There are almost endless playstyles with how many different weapons, armor, spells, and talismans there are; this rivals Terraria in terms of item diversity. The world is very gameplay dense and really fun to explore. Worth every single penny I paid, will definitely play the dlc when that comes out.Updated 3.5 Weeks Ago
