A really clever and fun game... I'm surprised the concept wasn't done before 2007 because it's such a cool idea to make into a video game. The puzzles are tough sometimes, but in a good way... it makes you stare at it for seconds or minutes until that "ah-ha" moment kicks into your brain. They give you enough balance between the gameplay so that it doesn't get tedious or tiresome. Really good game, I'm excited to eventually play the sequel.

Within the context of its release back in 2007, this is an amazing game and the start of a beloved IP. Like any Valve game, it has aged really well due to its art direction, and although gameplay-wise it's a bit barebones/basic, the novel portal mechanic more than makes up for it.

Portal - Video Game review

Portal is effectively a first-person puzzle game and it is not only fun and original with it's concepts and story but this is I believe one of the first full 3D first-person puzzle games, Valve has influenced a lot of gaming companies and this is just another case of it. Now we have games like Tacoma, The Talos Principle, The Witness, Q.U.B.E, Superliminal, but Portal is one of the oldest of it's kind.

The aim of the game is to get through a series of test chambers guided by an AI, you get a Portal gun that can shoot a blue and orange portal and whatever goes through one will come out of the other side. It's a fun gameplay mechanic and it's super fluid, the game never stops or gives you puzzles that would be extra hard but rather the whole game plays like an extended tutorial, always showing you new ways in which portals can be used.

I truly loved the puzzles in this game,they were designed so cleverly that whenever you felt like you had outsmarted the game and thought ingeniously, it's actually because the game guides you towards thinking like that which is a masterful accomplishment. Puzzles are designed in a way that they get harder and more complex in the later parts of the game but they also start opening up more, whenever you finish one part of the puzzle, the game let's you see the next part in a natural way as if guiding you gently which is what makes it more fun to play as the whole approach becomes engaging and never dull.

There is a story in Portal but no cinematics, rather, most of the story is conveyed through writing. Because the game only has one speakable character and that is the AI, it's on this suspicious female sounding super computer to tell us that's going on and make it interesting and boy, GlaDOS has so much life. She's one of the most fun video game villains I have ever seen or interacted with because she's just so funny!
The only disappointing thing about Portal is that it ends quick, like I'm not the smartest guy around but even I took only 4.4 hours to finish the campaign, but I would say it's worth it for the genuine fun and unique experience you get out of it. Of course the game doesn't end there, you can unlock other achievement's, go through the entire game again but this time through developer commentary or play the advance levels, with Steam controller API, you can practically use anything to play this game.

Overall: 9/10 one of the most original and fun if a little short experiences in gaming, reminds me that 2007 was really something else.

Portal is an innovative puzzle game. Well, it was innovative when it came out. It was a big deal. It's not overly complex in mechanics or story, though there is lore you can discover. Its simplicity is a strength. It's a very solid experience that most modern gamers should go through at least once.

Portal is one of my favourite games of all time. Learning to use the Portal Gun is a real pleasure as you solve the initial puzzles with ease. Then it starts to get harder, and you have to really think about where you need those portals to be so that you can get through the test chamber. There's a huge sense of satisfaction as you figure it out and proceed onward.

I've played through the game multiple times (received it with the Orange Box back in the day, so not all my playtime is recorded), and have thoroughly enjoyed it every time. There's a lot of humour throughout the game and it always makes me smile. One of the best games of all time, in my opinion.

I was thinking of giving it a 90% right after I finished it, but then "Still Alive" came on in the credits...

Needless to say this game is amazing and a classic, but I feel like it is showing it's age, and there really isn't a whole lot to this first game, but basically all of that changes with the sequel, and I can't wait to play that one again.

Me parece de los juegos mas únicos de puzzles, para la época se mantiene bastante bien y no se pone exageradamente criptico (unicamente me trabe en un nivel). Es un juego bastante sencillo, pero muy divertido de jugar, incluso hasta te encariñas con su antagonista principal y tiene mucho encanto. Se lo recomendaría a cualquier persona, es una experiencia única (y corta) que vale la pena pasarse aunque sea una vez. Incluso tiene sus pequeños retos para los más tryhards, un juegazo en toda regla.
