I gave this game a look for about and hour and was confused as hell.
I will definitely go back to it though as a few of the podcasts I listen to are raving about it :)

OK, I had this game on my list but I removed it because I heard about how punishing the combat is.
After GamerAim's comment that you can actually turn on God mode if it gets to frustrating I will actually check it out, especially now that it's game of the month. That having been said... I want to finish Elden Ring first so it'll be a bit later in the month that I will start this.

The combat in this game is tough… I enabled the God mode within 2 hours of play, after getting frustrated with one nasty pole-jabber guarding a key.
The game has been compared to Zelda, and that’s definitely a huge influence, but to me the combat and level structure makes it feel like a FromSoftware title, albeit with cute low poly graphics… Baby’s First Soulslike, anyone?
Anyway, it’s quite an intriguing little game. I like the way the in-game manual unlocks with the lore, without giving too much away.

I write this down so that I might not forget. After waking and grabbing my stick, I ventured into the Eastern Forest and defeated the Guard Captain with my new sword, allowing me to ring the East Bell. After that, I explored more of the Overworld, gathered the key to the Old House which led me to Below the Well from which I obtained a lantern for navigating the Dark Tomb. From there, I moved to the Western Garden, slew the garden knight and rang the West Bell, opening the Sacred Temple. From here, I had a few hints in the manual which indicated I should proceed to the Forest Fortress and the Eastern Vault. I think I also need 3 keys (red, blue, green) for the Sacred Temple but have found none of them.
However, after getting stuck at the entrance of the Forest Fortress, I'm not sure where to go. I have two entrances to the Quarry, but that region seems incredibly dangerous and probably late-game. I also found a graveyard area southeast of the Overworld and the Ruined Atoll to the southwest.
Since the Ruined Atoll is a region I have a map for, that is where I make my journey in the hopes that I am not stuck.
If any fellow travelers should have some advice on where to go after ringing both bells, do let me know.

So I finished Tunic yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed the ending I got, which I later discovered to be the "bad" ending, but after seeing what would constitute the "good" ending, I'm glad i ended up where i did.
Overall I really enjoyed the game and loved everything about the world-building and unravelling the mystery in one way or another. The combat isn't the best I've ever encountered, but it's a decent enough set of moves, even if a bit boring and unimaginative. However, I thought the whole game was very well put together and you can see that there is a lot of attention to detail in the animations and overall design.
Although, there were a couple of big flaws that I didn't enjoy, and brought everything down to a sort of "okay" level for me.... I'll hide spoilers, so enter at ye own riske...
- The difficulty ends up being either play on hard, or enable the "accessibility" godmode and never die. I would have liked to see some kind of middle ground where I could lower the difficulty to my own level and still have the danger of dying. I know maybe it's not "intended" that way, but if you really want to make a game accessible, you provide these options.
- The "instruction booklet" - on one hand I found it charming and fun that you have to find and unlock each page, and that those pages only tell you half the story so you need to figure out some basics for yourself. On the other hand, it's not gauranteed that you will have found the page you need for a certain section, which creates needless backtracking and wasting time on areas you shouldn't be in yet. What's more, I didn't figure out that you can actually upgrade your stats (like HP, Stamina, etc) until about half way through the game. The page "describing" that in the manual didn't make sense to me, so I only ended up discovering it by accident and through frustration when I was trying everything in my inventory to see what they did. The fact that such a central gameplay system was obfuscated and a "puzzle" to work out, only annoys me and took away a lot of the fun.
- Similarly, the map is a little obtuse, and while that's also kind of fun in its own way, it ended up frustrating me more than helping me. It was only after some hints from @Alex5101 that I even realised I had missed major parts of certain locations. I walked right past the boss fight at the library, and spent ages roaming around and looking for the green key, only to discover a ladder I hadn't taken the first time around and had easily missed. This lack of direction might be fun and encourage exploration to an extent, but for me it was downright annoying and I felt like my time was being wasted.
Those are the big gripes for me, but overall I fell on the side of enjoying the game and being glad that I played it. Some of it might not have been to my taste and I did feel like it was quite obtuse in parts, so much that it reminded me of the first time I played Fez, but this was much more annoying. Still a good game though, and I'm glad there was more to it than what I had originally played in the demo... it's just not the second-coming that some reviewers told me it would be.

All I'll say without spoiling anything is to explore - if you have access to a location and don't die real quick, then you probably can find what you're looking for in there - even the places you've already been. If you want more specific help - hit me up ;)

The game looks gorgeous and I'm enjoying it well enough except for the fact that I have no idea what to do most of the time. After wandering around for about an hour making no progress, I gave up and looked up a guide. If I don't end up just giving up I'm probably gonna finish this one with a guide.

Having a lot of fun exploring. I just noticed if you unlock a map page your character appears on the map. It's fun looking at the guide and trying to figure things out. It seems implied by the changing audio and CRT screen that you are playing as a gamer who is reading a physical instruction manual that they are updating over time.
I am playing with no death and unlimited stamina. I turned them off for a bit, and then just with unlimited stamina and it was still too hard for me. I could do without the unlimited stamina but if I can't die, I figure why not just be allowed to roll around all I want. I wish there was something in between that and the hard mode. I think an easy mode with more health and stamina, and health restoring after battle would be fun for me.
I think I am exactly where GamerAim was two days ago. I somehow ended up back at the beginning of the map and still found chests to open and pages to unlock.

I have started this game because my From Software binge has reached a bit of roadblock with the difficulty of the Bloodborne DLC. A perfect time to pick up a new difficult game.
I've hardly played anything yet, but I've found some items and I'm progressing in the eastern forest. I like the combat in this game a bit less than in Death's Door. It feels a bit more clumsy, but maybe I have to get used to it. I might switch it to invincibility mode to get a relaxing playthrough while collecting everything rather than a tense one. I've not had the urge to change the difficulty this first half hour of play time though.

I voted for this game, but after seeing comments about the difficulty I think I am going to pass on this one as I find difficult games frustrate the heck out of me. And I am aware of the Godmode setting but beating it like that would be a total buzz kill for me.

Although I am enjoying the game more than most (I'm still bad at combat even with god mode, so difficulty isn't an issue for me), I may end up retiring it just because I'm kinda stuck. I hate to retire another game (my 3rd this year) but with so little time to play and such...ugh, it's hard.
Anyway, where I'm at is that I got the hookshot but the green key is already stolen. So I have no keys and no idea where to go. I've gone back and (re)explored the graveyard (but get stuck at a gate not far in), the western gardens (found nothing new), the Overworld (didn't notice any hookshot hooks leading to anywhere noteworthy), the Forest Fortress (still stuck at the gate), the mountain above the sacred temple to the north (nothing new). I went back to the quarry as well but I get the impression it's a late-game area based on how it saps my health to the point I'd be dead if I didn't have god mode on.
I don't want to use a guide but I'm open to hints from my fellow gamers if they have any.

Which part are you referring to as the Forest Fortress gate? And have you figured out the Ruined Atoll statue puzzle?

9 Yrs♥✓#
I was referring to the first part of the fortress (where you get the red key) with the dead checkpoint and that block you need to pray away but Alex5101 helped me figure out the Atoll puzzle yesterday! I just wasn't comprehending the hint in the manual but once I did it the first time it opened up so much and I've gone back to the fortress where I am now and enjoying the game again.
Hoping to soon encounter what abatage called a big boss :D

Oh yeah and one thing, i see a lot of people retiring this game bec stuck? It feels odd to me, but maybe it's because this is such a unique game,it might be easier to get a bit lost trying to understand what's trying to do.
I'll say one thing tho, check the manual, seriously just go back to every page and take a good look at them, there is so much info in some of them and a lot seem obscure too, but it literally tells you what to do, so check it, often, you don't need to understand the fake language to understand it so decipher that mfer.
I loved every second of it, and only looked at a guide at the very end bec i was too lazy to finish that final door puzzle. Really good and unique game and i will be hyped for a sequel.

I wasn't feeling this game, so I decided to retire it. I really wanted to love it but after playing Death's Door recently this one just felt a bit worse in my opinion in terms of handling and controls. It also felt a lot like Hyper Light Drifter where you have to touch all the walls to make sure there is no secret passage (don't get me wrong I loved that in HLD, but not so much here).
I did enjoy the guide and the exploration, but that wasn't enough to get me hooked.

I'm playing this right now but thought I would give my thoughts about it anyways.
I'm in the final hours of the game now (I think) and I would say that, to me, this is a perfect 7.5 game. I enjoyed exploring the map, that is the core of the game in my opinion. But the combat easily gets frustrating for the wrong reasons, feeling unfair or unresponsive at times. And the boss battles are insane. Your range is to bad, you are a bit sluggish, and lock-on-target can shift or not get stuck in, so you don't land your hits. Your not fast enough to handle some of the enemy combos. I can say that I wouldn't have been able to continue playing without occassionally turning on god-mode. Had it on for everey boss after the one in West Gardens and all the way through the Quarry because of that stupid health thing and not being able to see properly because all the pinkish light. All that being said, I really enjoyed the puzzles and exploration, and exploring an area for the first time felt exciting almost every time. Impressive indie-title, but it lacks some things to make it less frustrating.
