Kamifuda is a indie half card game, half visual novel, and is one of my favourite games in the card game genre, as someone that was a fan of single player Yu-Gi-Oh! games, it scratched much of my itch for these more traditional card games (as opposed to those more inspired by Slay the Spire).

What I like the most are the cards theming and the setting, while both the story and characters are still enjoyable. The card game itself is very good, the different archtypes are varied enough, and you are very much encouraged to mix and the match cards of different playstyles. However it's a very hard game, so instead of making a deck in the archtype that you like, you are supposed to make a complete counter-deck to your opponent by the late-stages of the game, which can be either a strenght or a weakness of the game depending on taste.

In the end It also made me much more willing to look out for more indie card games.

First three months list

- Remaster/Remake of Yakuza 2.

18-2. A visual novel or text-based game: Planetarian: Chiisana Hoshi no Yume
- Really cute and short visual novel.

24. An arcade-style high score game: Summer Carnival '92: Recca
- The fastest shoot em up in the nes, as others of its time it has a high score system.

37. A game that heavily features money, gold, or economics: New Super Mario Bros. 2
- 2D Mario game all about collecting coins.

40. A post-apocalyptic game: Shin Megami Tensei IV
- As in other SMT games you play in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo overrun by demons.

41. A game with a short title (4 letters or less): EDGE
- Puzzle game where you play as a cube, 4 letters.

47. A game that had its HLTB times on a purple/red/gray background at the time you started playing it (color indicates the amount of submitted playtimes, red = low amount, gray = zero): Pazuru
- very simple and short, yet interesting puzzle game, besides me, there is only one other time uploaded.

It's very likely that I won't have time to complete this challenge, mainly because long JRPGs are some of my favourite games, but I will try as mean to play more shorter games that I might have not played otherwise.

10. Fate/stay night: Visual Novel with fairly high highs and very low lows, still I was fairly engaged with the story throughout the game.

9. Liberation Maiden: Very impressive shooter, but it is too short and even then still fairly repetitive.

8. Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology: Kinda mixed on this JRPG, loved the combat in the beginning when was more about manipulating position of the enemies, but by the end was more about spamming strong spells, the story was fairly good, still I would like it much more if I liked the main cast more.

7. Inazuma Eleven 3: Team Ogre Attacks!: As its predecessors it's a very good football RPG game, the only thing that tarnishes it a little for me is the gacha-like recruitment system.

6. Elite Beat Agents: Very simple rhythm game, simple fun in its purest form, with the exception of the mission "A Christmas Gift", that mission hits really hard and is one of peak gaming moments for me.

5. Tokyo Xanadu eX+: Really good mix of social sim and dungeon crawler, dungeon, characters, story and world are nothing exceptional, but all aspects come together to make something greater than the sum of its parts.

4. Sakura Taisen 3: Pari wa Moeteiru ka: Not too much to say, as well as other Sakura Wars games is a good vibes dating sim/RPG, I really liked the main cast in this entry.

3. Fire Emblem: Awakening: Good gameplay, story and characters, but the amount of customization of the units makes this entry of fire emblem for me, some side missions are stupidly hard, but making broken child units is fun, so I guess it evens out in the end.

2. Kamifuda: This indie card game/Visual novel mix caught me off quite of guard, it's simple but it manages to be interesting and presents you with new strategies throughout the whole game. The story is just interesting enough to make you keep going, and the characters do a lot of the heavy lifting in this part; they are all quite interesting. Finally, the setting is the best part for me, especially because it manages to have a cool synergy with the card game itself.

1. 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors: Best Visual Novel that I ever played, the only negatives are that some puzzles aren't that interesting and I think the game holds too much of its punch to the true ending, aside from that everything is just excellent, characters, story, setting, etc. The ending is another peak gaming moment for me, specially because I played it on 3ds.

Quoted Post No Longer Exists
Like most Brazilians, I first became interested in Pokémon through the anime and the movies. Therefore I still wanted to try another game even after not liking FireRed that much.

Emerald is my favourite because of being the most consistent in most aspects imo.
- It has a lot of my favourite pokémon (Ralts line, Scepitle, Absol, Rayquaza, Kyogre, Altaria, Manectric, Sableye, Deoxys, Cacturne, Armaldo, Latios/Latias, etc)
- It has the second-best villain team in team aqua/magma, I really like the theming of land vs. sea, and to this day, Archie and Maxie are the main villains with the most personalitty imo.
- Some of my favourite gym leaders in Wattson, Flannery and Winoona.
- It's the region I liked exploring the most, like finding a nice place for your secret base, to explore the abandoned ship, to go through the saga to catch regis, to scour the region to catch groudon and kyogre.
- It has some of the best post-game content, I find that the battle frontier already gets enough praise, but I am also a big fan of the pokémon contests.
- It has one of my favourite pokémon soundtracks and to this day I find the cutscene of Raquaza stopping the fight between Groudon and Kyogre the coolest cutscene in the franchise.

All these aspects combined made the Hoenn region games the only ones where I actually put in the effort to complete the Pokédex. I already completed the Dex once in Emerald, though unfortunately, I lost that save, so I will probably do it again sometime. I am now in the process of completing Alpha Sapphire's Dex.

My ideal team consists of some of my favorite Pokémon that I could reasonably use in one playthrough. This excludes legendaries and it tries to have at least some semblance of type synergy.

Pokémon Infinite Fusion seems interesting, I will probably play it sometime, though as for Pokémon hacks/fan games Pokémon uranium is higher in my backlog.

Pokémon is comfortably one of my favorite gaming franchises. My first game was Fire Red, and I thought it was fine, but it didn't do much for me. In general, I find the Kanto region quite basic and just fine. However, then I played Emerald next, and it all clicked for me. To this day, Emerald is one of the top three best games I've ever played.

Not much later, I got to play competitive Pokémon through Pokémon Showdown on Smogon and some Brazilian Pokémon forums. I played a lot during generations 6, 7, and a bit of 8. Nowadays, I still play every now and then, but nothing compares to gen 7, where I actually put in a decent amount of time.

After Emerald, I played Heart Gold, Platinum, and White. As for Johto, I'm not much of a fan; it just feels like Kanto 2.0. But Kanto, at least, is so basic that it kinda has a charm of mindlessly playing it as comfort food. I really liked both Platinum and White, platinum has cynthia, by far the best champion, the only fight in a pokémon game that was hard not because I was underleveled, but because she had a actually half decent team, White as well as its sucessor has the best story, it really shows that if game freak was interested in flesh out more of the story of the pokémon universe they could pull it off.

Then I got a bit sick of the franchise for a while until I played a hack rom called Pokémon Fire Red: Rocket Edition. I really loved it, highlight goes to the mechanic of stealing Pokémon, and then I went back to play more games. I loved playing White 2, seeing Team Plasma split after the events of the first game was really cool, fighting past pokémon characters in the post game was also fun. Thought Pokémon Y was just okay, Team Flare is by far the most underwhelming team in all of pokémon. Also loved playing Alpha Sapphire, Delta Episode was very interesting, it's a shame that they don't much else new, still, is a solid remake of one of my favourite games of all time so not too much to complain. Now, I've just begun playing Ultra Moon, so I don't have a opinion on it.

I will probably play the Switch games eventually, but to be honest, neither Galar nor Paldea seem to be that interesting to me. The only game I look forward to playing eventually is Legends Arceus.

As for mechanics, the only one I really liked is Mega Evolution, primarily because it gave us cool new Pokémon designs. Additionally, at least in singles, it's the easiest gimmick to balance. If a Mega Pokémon is too good, you can just ban it, whereas a mechanic like Dynamax, which is completely unbalanced for the singles format, can't be restricted. Therefore, your only option is to ban the whole mechanic, which takes away some of the fun of the generation.

My ideal 6 would be something like:

Sceptile
Gallade
Absol
Greninja
Altaria
Armaldo

Other pokémon games I played:
Pokémon Ruby
Pokémon Sapphire
Pokémon Resolute Version
Pokémon Light Platinum

08/07 - Kamifuda 9/10

Excellent blend of a card game and a visual novel, good characters and atmosphere that fits very well with the theming of the cards. Sometimes is a bit too hard and the deck building menu could have a bit more functions, still it is was perfect to scrath my itch for more single player card games.

14/07 - Inazuma Eleven 3: Team Ogre Attacks! 7/10

Still a good blend of football with RPG mechanics, It has mechanics that are a meaningfull upgrade to its predecessors, however the story is a bit lackluster compared to the second game, and a new "gacha" system that takes out some of your ability to customize the team to your liking without some grinding kinda soured my experience a little.

Yakuza 0 : If you only play the main story you can finish it more quickly, but come on, this is an Yakuza game, The main story is superb, but with the amount of minigames, special moves, substories and challenges it's almost criminal to just be stuck with the main story. I finish it in 63h09m but I still can see myself going back to it every now and then.

Pokémon Y: Maybe one the first games I watched a full playthrough on youtube when I still was a child, It is one of the more mediocre Pokémon games for me, but I still had a weird/good feeling by finally playing it by myself.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona(PSP): Maybe in this case I'm cheating a little, because the biggest center of controversial isn't just this version of the game, but also its original version for the PS1 in the US.
Basically the controversy revolves around the PS1 game localization, where the localization team tried to "westernize" the game, the most infamous example of this being how they changed all of the main characters races. But even the PSP remaster that is absent of these localization issues have their shares of problems, most noticible the completelly different soundtrack that most fans consider inferior to the original one.
Because of all of this mess there isn't a "denifitive version" of Persona 1, some people will say it's best to play the japanese PS1 version with a translation patch, others will say it's best to play the PSP version with a soundtrack patch.

User Image

Top Gear: The only dialogue boxes are for some onamatopeias when you crash your car.

Klonoa: Door to Phantomille: I know this game have a lot of dedicated fans, but I think it's fair to say that is not very successfull commercially speaking, I hope the remaster that is coming changes that.

22. A game with 6+ endings - Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time
This game has about 40 endings, some are just ending scenes with different characters, others branch significantly the story.

34. A post-apocalyptic game - Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2
I can basically throw any SMT game in this category.

Total 3/53

Very busy January combined with playing mostly jrpgs resulted in a slow start, I will try to catch up eventually though.

I would rather not, but depending on the game I end up using them.
There are games that have a lot of missables, like Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time, firstly the game has a mechanic where some characters can die and you are supposed to "change their fate", most of the time you have to do very specific things like show an item to a specific character. Furthermore the game has about 40 endings, what just make very daunting trying to tackle this game without a guide.
Talking about endings I would like to mention the first Persona, where you have to give specific answers throughout the game to achieve the good ending, so basically you can literally lock yourself out of the good ending in the first hours.
Outside of those cases I use guides if I am lost (especially for older games) or for some tedious sidequests, like having to find an specific item.

Very good niche jrpg, the game has so many missables that I can't see someone playing this without checking a guide every now and then, it also has a lot of minor flaws, but overall I still had a really good time with it.

Normally I'd be against Microsoft buying third parties, but Activision's case is an exception, not only Activision is basically killing all franchises they own in favor to just make more COD, but now we have the whole toxic and misogynistic workplace environment being uncovered, so I can't really be mad at this acquisition. I really think Microsoft will give more autonomy to all studios as well as to expel Bobby kotick and fix the workplace culture as soon as possible
Though I'm kinda concerned this won't stop only on Bethesda and Activision, Microsoft is clearly aiming to add
more value to Game Pass before other companies do their own subscription services, so they rely a little less on third party stuff as well as to build a lead before competition catch
up on the whole subscription service trend.

Oct 06 - Horizon Chase Turbo 20h45m (8/10)
Oct 07 - Portal 4h (7/10)
Oct 11 - Lego Star Wars: The Video Game 10h24m (7/10)
Oct 16 - The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (7/10)
Oct 19 - Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Tag Force 4 (5/10)
Oct 20 - Pokémon Black and White 2 52h57m (9/10)

This was sure a busy month, best was Black and white, I still prefer emerald but I can see clearly why it is the favorite pokemon game of many people, Horizon Chase is a love letter for those who grew up with arcade racing games, Portal was short and fun even if I'm not a huge fan of puzzle games(though also it was the first time I felt some kind of motion sickness playing games in my life), Tag force 4 was the biggest disappointment, it's too repetitive, wish this was more like the first tag force, Lego star wars is the definition of what I expect of multiplayer games, had a great time playing this game with my sister, Minish cap I liked just enough to spark my curiosity to play others zelda games in the future.

1. What Difficulty do you usually play games on now?
I almost always play on normal, sometimes I switch to hard on second playthroughs and maybe I play on easy just if I get too overwhelmed with the quantity of game mechanics.
2. Do you like to take your time or go fast when playing something?
It depends, usually if a game has a more or less repetitive gameplay loop I usually skip some extra content and rush a bit more, however if not I definitely take my time.
3. Are you more critical of how you rate/review/critique games than you were before?
Maybe? I would rather say I got better at identifying what I like/dislike and expressing it, sure I had a lot of experiences that I couldn't imagine back when I started playing games, but ultimately I still enjoy most of the games I liked in my childhood in a similar way, not changing much no matter how many games I play.
