This game is alright, but it's not Dead Space. The combat is much worse than the previous games due to the 2-weapon restriction and the overabundance of ammo leading to each shot feel less important. I don't like crafting being the replacement for the shop since it, once again, causes resources to be way too abundant. This is also just straight-up not a horror game, it's a slightly above-average sci-fi shooter. I also didn't care for the side-characters, Nolan and Carver especially. I don't know why they decided to cuck Isaac, but at least we get to shoot him later on. Carver just didn't have a personality, he's the kind of guy who dies first in a horror movie. The only reason he was here was to be a 2nd-player character. I'm also not a fan of the re-designs either. The necromorphs feel less like they're re-animated corpses, twisted by the marker, and more like generic aliens. Also the game's audio just completely cut-out during the final cutscene so that was neat.Updated 1 Week Ago

Dead Space 3 is a third person shooter developed by Visceral Games and published by Electronic Arts. It's the third instalment in the Dead Space series. You can expect the same survival horror elements featured in the previous games. Except Dead Space 3 incorporates a bit more to the story and characters. Driven by the will to save one of the only people left he cared for, Isaac Clarke sets out on a mission to find Ellie. The team then decides to end the Marker, and the necromorph madness for good, as they head for Tau Volantis. Throughout your progress, the game will shed light on the unanswered questions about the origin of the marker. The story isn't too spectacular or gripping in any way, but for the most part, it makes sense. For a deeper insight into the story, you may want to collect as much audio and text logs as you can. There are a handful of characters that are introduced, and quite a few cutscenes for a Dead Space game. But you know what's lacking? what? Character personalities. I felt the developers could have given more...variety, to make things less stale. The game takes you to many locales which include space ships, an icy planet, the interior of a huge necromorph, laboratories, and more. The environment in each of these places look amazing. There's a huge concentration to detail...from the debris within a planet's rings, to the lighting effects inside of an abandoned space ship. Paired with suspenseful music and sound effects, Dead Space 3 will give you an amazing survival horror experience just like it's predecessors. As for the voice acting, overall, it was well done.
Now lets talk about the gameplay. So...does Dead Space 3 live up to the immersive experience the previous titles give? Well, I felt the bar was already raised really high after Dead Space 1, and even higher after Dead Space 2...So Dead Space 3 definitely had a lot to live up to. The developers had to be careful what to change or add, and what to keep. For starters, you have a locator that will point you to various points of interest. Isaac's RIG menu is live as usual, to give the player an urgency while managing items. As for the controls, you have your basic line gun that's given to you from the beginning. And you're able to rotate it to maximize precision when shooting off necromorph limbs. On top of the basic line gun, you'll get a chance to construct a load of different weapons at any bench you find. The new crafting system is deep, and allows for more creativity. You can either use a blue prints to construct weapons or create your own custom weapon from scratch. Each weapon can be upgraded using components you find throughout the game. You can even send out a scavenging bots to help you find items. Not only can these components be used to upgrade your weapons, they can also be used to upgrade your RIG and buy consumable items. The game gives you the trade-off decision as to how you spend your components. For example, you can either spend it all on health packs or you could spend it upgrading your suit for increased armor.
Isaac has new evasive abilities which include a barrel roll...ok, no..DO A BARREL ROLL..NO..DO A BARREL ROLL...(quick look to the side) Phew, actually, Isaac does a dive roll. But..while on topic, try typing in "Do a barrel roll" in google search and see what happens. Anyways getting back on track... Dead Space 3 also has a ducking system. The ducking behind cover system isn't automatic. For example, in Gears of War, your character will automatically be in a very protected spot behind the wall, the moment you press the cover button. In Dead Space 3, your level of protection will depend on the location and position you duck in. This does give the cover system an organic feel, but not a very effective one. I'd say the dive roll is a lot more useful, since you're constantly moving, plus you get some invincibility frames.
Throughout the game you'll encounter a few mini-games here and there. They're fairly straight forward and don't take much brain power at all. For most of them, you have to use Isaac's kinesis to move objects into the right places. Some other puzzles involves matching and aligning things. One neat aspect about the kinesis module, is that you can use it on all kinds of objects in the game, from necromorph arms to explosives, which is useful if ammo ever runs low. The stasis module also makes a return, and it works exactly the same as the previous Dead Space games. From time to time, Isaac will be thrown into a quick-time event. These mostly involves mashing a single button, nothing complicated.
The game features some returning enemies and new enemies such as the nexus and unitologist soldiers. A: The creepy thing about Dead Space that separates it from other survival horror games is that the enemies are not only hideous looking, but they're also unpredictable.

Unless you have someone to co-op this game with I would not recommend it all. This is not a game I'd have liked to play solo. There are a lot of questionable game design choices and enemy placement that gets frustrating fast. A lot of weapons you won't be able to unlock even after beating the game unless you spend real money on DLC. The game drip feeds you items and upgrades, the way to gather materials using the a little robot and a tracker is awful as the tracker will usually leads to walls or dead ends. Side quests are generally difficult and feel unfair, with lackluster rewards. Towards the end, enemies become bullet sponges, and the constant attacks feel more annoying than engaging, often interrupting mini-games to open doors or unlock new areas.Updated 1.5 Months Ago

The fall of Dead Space right here, can basically see the key heads were gone. When a game diverts from its original design into something that's basically unrecognisable, Dead Space 3 is what you get. Set pieces were terrible, going from tense elements of horror to 3rd person cover shooter is not welcome here at all. The story was however good, adds to the lore of its universe but ultimately is let down by asking more questions towards the ending rather than answering them.Updated 2 Months Ago

Isaac can you please just stop trying to bang your ex for a sec.The gameplay was more enjoyable than I thought it'd be. It's not nuanced like the previous entries, but it's still fun as a generic zombie shooter. It's cluttered with microtransaction bullshit, but you don't need to pay anything as you can already gather enough components to make everything you want in-game.
But I just can't stand with this bro-ey tone of the game. They wanted to make it appeal to everyone, but they ended up making a game that appealed to the mainstream audience of 2007. Generic Hollywood soundtrack. Shitty love triangle. Men have no complicated feelings; they only do things they need to do like a soldier. Women cannot take care of themselves; they only need to be protected. If someone dies, you shrug it off like nothing happened. And you'll always get a hot gf as a reward of your noble sacrifice. It feels so outdated and cringey even in 2013 standards.
7 if they removed Ellie and her boyfriend, but 6 with them.

Dead Space 3 is an amazing game. It has an interesting plot, great graphics, cool memorable locations, tense shootouts and, of course, oppressive atmosphere. Definitely the best game in the series, but at the same time it deserves attention not only of fans of the previous parts, but also of those who didn't like the first two Dead Space games for one reason or another - the third part is quite different within the series, and it is these differences that, in my opinion, elevate this game over the previous onesUpdated 5 Months Ago

Honestly I can see and completely understand all the gripes people have with this game. Firstly CO-OP still works why complain. I feel bad because I was like "lemme see if quickplay works" clicked play, got a game then just ditched the geezer. But yeah she works.Anyway, the main gripes I see people complain about are the story, the lack of some Casper the ghost type BOO! scary factor and just disconnect from the styles of the older games. Honestly after playing it I can see why people that are like proper fans would be hoes mad about it, like the ending is kind of unfulfilling but it is just a cliff hanger for another game, but these questions are answered in a DLC that has an actual proper bombshell cliff hanger for the next game (I didn't buy it I just read about it) so it makes sense why that's an issue but I was decently contempt with the ending albeit feeling like the DLC should've been in the main game.
Now the horror scare factor is an interesting one because I don't really recall ever being like truely scared. Now I ain't saying I'm just a big tough guy because I'm not, I've never and cannot actually fully finish a horror movie I'm a baby boy. But the original games had some good jump scares. Jump scares, if done correctly is great, but a jump scare which is just, loud violin, dude comes out of vent (which this game is) is cheesy. Dead Space 3 has this, what it's missing to be scary is scary environments and the uncomfortable factor. Like the reason I actually felt "a rush" in the first games was a combination of the claustrophobic FOV, narrow halls and dark atmospheres with sections of pitch black darkness where you are being hit from multiple angles. That I would class as survival-horror, whereas Dead Space 3 is more survival-action, and I'm not mad about it. There are many cool set pieces and sequences that I thoroughly enjoyed, but they created what the next issue people have about the game is which is the disconnect.
Basically when you see the word, "bread" you are expecting a loaf. Say you get addicted to bread and become a big fan. One day, you go buy your same bread, but the bread in your shopping trolley is actually a donut but still labeled bread. That's how I see it, the product is still good, it's just different and it's a non issue for me. Yeah I'd be mad if I was a die hard bread fan, but personally I really enjoyed the game. From the gun crafting system which lead me to some pretty interesting and unique builds, the pacing, the opening was hectic, environments, lens flares and graphics in some sections are like gawd damn. Basically the fundamental mechanics of gameplay and graphics are all amazing and Dead Space. The soundtrack was sweet although sometimes I thought "I heard this song a couple times now". Basically I can't really complain although I do have some minor gripes.
The game wasn't hard, granted I didn't choose to play impossible difficulty because I've learnt to never first time a game on hardest setting so I just played hard, but like it wasn't really hard. I had an extreme over supply of everything. Resources, meds, ammo and upgrades. The addition of the scavenger drone is sweet but should've been toned down a little. The suits didn't really show the upgrades maybe I'm blind but there was a clear like, hell yeah factor after an upgrade in the previous games. The "optional" side missions were most certainly optional. Did the first 3, served no purpose asides from deep lore, got a little extra loot and then you go back to main quest. Maybe if I didn't already have the safe full of stuff I would've kept doing them but I skipped the rest of them. Last gripe has to do with story/ending.
Firstly the amount of times they could've just shot Danik is crazy, I've never "just shoot him'd" at a screen before but this game had me saying it. Next, like yes they set out to destroy the moon to save humanity, they did it, but can I atleast see that we did actually stop all markers, or that humanity was saved, or that she actually made it back home or just something more. Saying the signal disappeared, then credits is pretty like hell yeah he did it, and then post credits you hear he's still alive which is like yay, cliff hanger what's the next game, but to get the "real ending" and actual cliffhanger you have to buy the awakening DLC and you find out that earth is under attack
Overall, I quite enjoyed DS3, just not as much as it's predecessors. I guess they realised the magic of "scary space dismemberment game" was going to wear off by the third game so knew they had to do something different to avoid "DS2.5" criticism. And I'm of the opinion another Dead Space game that was the exact same survival horror wouldn't have been as refreshing unless there was some big innovations, so instead of innovating they made it a cool action game but that steered away from it's roots and origin making people mad. Definitely worth playing to finish the series.

Some people criticised Dead Space 2 for being too action-focused and straying too far away from the survival horror roots of the original game. This was never really an issue for me. Yes Dead Space 2 is not as scary as the original, but I feel the overall experience was only heightened through the more action-packed set pieces and fast-paced combat. Isaac may have been flying all over the place like an action hero, but the necromorphs moved just as fast. Despite the surplus of ammo and health, I was still fearful of what was around every corner, I may have had the means to take on these creatures but there was still a palpable feeling of dread when waiting for them to jump out and attack. Despite all the set pieces, ammo and spectacle Dead Space 2 never strayed to far into action territory for the experience to cease being a horror game. I’m afraid the same cannot be said for Dead Space 3. With this entry the series pretty much abandoned much of the horror tone that had made the original special. Yeah it still has necromorphs, and jump scares and a little bit of body horror, but the more unique elements have been sanded down until all we’re really left with is a standard cover-based shooter with some grotesque enemies, and you can already go to Gears of War for a superior version of that.Dead Space 3 isn’t necessarily bad, but it is extremely disappointing, especially considering the great balance Dead Space 2 managed to achieve between action and horror. Dead Space 3 puts action at the centre stage adding in a combat roll, adding in somehow even more ammo and generally making Isaac more fluid and easy to control. Although these may be improvements, each of them takes away from the horror tone that made the series great. Isaac is no longer a vulnerable engineer desperately searching for ammo and health, but now a soldier who kills just as many marines wielding assault rifles as he does necromorphs. This shift towards action is apparent from early on. The first time we see Isaac he isn’t actually fighting necromorphs but shooting other marines on a human colony. There’s almost no horror in this type of encounter, one human shoots at other humans with laser guns, doesn’t exactly sound like a particularly tense scenario. It became particularly laughable later on, when even some of the necromorph enemies began to possess bodies and wield firearms themselves. People like to complain about how the Resident Evil series went far too action focused in its 5th and 6th entries, but Dead Space 3 has them beat in that regard – it only took about 3 entries before Isaac was your fun of the mill action hero killing hordes of humans as well as monsters.
Another major detractor from the horror factor is that Dead Space 3 can be played entirely co-op. Much like many of the other new additions this change was likely forced into the game to make it more appealing to widespread audiences. Accompanying Isaac for this story is John Carver, a bland and uninteresting soldier who is more of an angry stereotype than a character. A second player can play as Carver and accompany Isaac for the whole of his journey. I think this is a major misstep; it’s difficult enough to create a tense, horror environment when the player is by themselves, let alone when there is another character to banter with and provide supporting fire. Any dread which could have been achieved in the game’s more isolated locations is completely removed by the addition of a second character to the mix. This co-op focus can also be quite immersion breaking when attempting to play through single player. There are areas of the map which are reserved only for Co-op which the game will remind you of in large, unsubtle text if you attempt to enter into them. Carver also appears and disappears from the game world at will. Because he has to be present for the co-op players Carver will be present in nearly every cutscene, but on a single player run Carver will appear at the start of the cutscene and then disappear at the end, leaving Isaac all on his lonesome again. Not only does this break immersion in the moment but it made me frustrated with the story itself – don’t make Carver such a key part of the story if he’s going to have such a diminished presence in a single player run. The co-op sections should be additional parts added onto the main campaign, but here the main story itself bends over backwards to force in Carver, taking away the sense of loneliness and isolation from the previous games and literally breaking the 4th wall as Carver pops in and out of existence.
The setting of Dead Space 3 also doesn’t help in establishing a horror tone......

*Warning: spoilers* All right follow-up of the previous games.
Dead Space 3 is an example of a game where the concept gets a little old. While still a good game, the main idea of Dead Space is not really present anymore and it feels more like a standalone game, with tight bonds to the original. Don’t get me wrong, I can absolutely understand that three games on the USG Ishmura, with the same plot and environment will get old even faster, but in my opinion, Dead Space 3 was not necessary.
Still, after what I just said, the story of this game is fairly decent. After discovering the fate of the USG Ishimura in the first game, getting to know the Marker and its capabilities in the second game, you now search for the origins of the Marker on the frozen planet Tau Volantis in search of answers in Dead Space 3.
While searching for those answers, you must fight your way trough many Necromorphs but also, humans…. This was very disappointing for me. Like I said, I can understand that you don’t make the same game thrice and need some new ideas, but the introduction of regular human enemies in great numbers, kills of all the ties with Dead Space for me. And although I can still enjoy the game, I sometimes forgot that I was playing the horror survival game Dead Space instead of Call of Duty. I would have preferred some new, wicked and lost Necromorphs instead. We got some of those, yes, but the focus on the human enemies shifted a bit too much in my opinion.
Dead Space 3 offers some new game modes like Survival and Permadeath to add some challenge to the game. This is a nice addition.
I really like the graphics in Dead Space 3. The character and suit models are nicely polished and the Necromorphs look great. Because this game is set on a frozen planet, the snow, snowstorm and cold effects are really well done.
The sound design is a little less impressive than the other games and ambient music is now playing when walking towards your next goal.
In this game, you can also craft items from parts and scrap that you find lying around. I must say that this feature is nicely done and adds some more “survival” to the game.
The added DLC, Awakened, added a decent extra piece of content and story to the game. It goes back to the roots of Dead Space, with more focus on horror. This was a pleasant surprise for me.
The goal here is simple. Get to a ship to leave the planet Tau Volantis. You firstly escape to CMS Terra Nova, and need to find some missing parts to fix the ship so you can travel further to earth (and hopefully, to safety).
On your journey you constantly get confronted will all the horror and insanity that the Marker causes and what it does to the people, still living on the planet. There are some sick plot twists in this DLC that fixed most of the complains I had with the original Dead Space 3 in terms of enjoyability and story.
In the end, I had fun with Dead Space 3, although, it did not feel that special or glorious anymore. It was just all right and it added a nice piece of the story to the series.

8 / 10Since first minutes of game play, you realize this is more of a shooter game, the general story is nice, you got rescued by Ellie’s crew to save the world from Unitology’s plans to trigger the Convergence. At first, I hated the new weapon system, but it turned out to be great, nothing fantastic. You can read out there a lot of reasons why EA killed this game and saga, they wanted a micro-purchases system, obligated Visceral to make it multiplayer. How the game was supposed to be done is the DLC Awakened, much more of Horror and Isaac’s mental illness. Dead rag-doll physics improved a bit, but there are still spinning corpses, the new problem I had was disappearing corpses, making me unable to loot them. Ending was grim since I was hoping for an ending, or something close to that, but all we got was “beating” Unitology. I wish for a fourth and final delivery of this incredible saga, hoping they don’t squeeze the IP with a fifth game.

High highs and low lows. This project was extremely mismanaged, and there's a bunch of resources that explain why this game turned out the way that it did. HOWEVER, it had a lot of interesting ideas (many of which were even fun), and it was surprisingly compelling towards the end, compared to its abysmal storytelling throughout most of it. A half-decent romp if you have a friend and a high horseshit tolerance, but not a great video game at the end of the day.Updated 8 Months Ago

The quintessential of what the second game did badly. Very open, less scary, and clearly action-based, the sole thing that helps the game is the story.Pretty much hated it, although the coop addition was intesreting, that's probably why we never got a dead space 4 since how the game has been poorly received.

Dead Space 3 disappointingly veers away from the elements that made its predecessors iconic within the horror genre. The shift toward action, the inclusion of microtransactions, the diluted narrative, and the forced co-op element collectively create a game that feels disconnected from its roots. Low grade for a low quality game. The game just branches too far from the original game. Dead Space 3 is a good game that made some well-intentioned decisions that unfortunately derail the entire game. It has some insanely cool levels, the combat is fun as always, and it offers a satisfying ending to Isaac’s quest. Unfortunately, many of its elements just don’t land or don’t work when combined with other elements. At the surface level, the focus on co-op and Michael Bay storytelling were obviously the wrong direction to go in. The intro city level and love triangle feel like EA cranked the stupid-dial up to 11. The addition of human enemies, standard zombies, and cover-shooting similarly land with a thud. This stuff isn't well-implemented, they were clearly chasing industry trends, it clearly detracts from the horror, and it’s a mystery that they learned nothing from RE5 and RE6, which made the exact same mistakes.
Next up, Dead Space 3 seems to be more concerned with quantity over quality. This game is significantly longer than 1 & 2 and is loaded with sidequests, each of which offer a ~20 minute standalone level. I actually love the addition of sidequests but there’s just too many levels here. There aren’t enough enemy types to support a game this long and the level designers were clearly struggling to make this many areas. Levels can get pretty bland and repetitive at times, sidequest or not. By the end, it’s also throwing an absurd amount of fast enemies at you to keep the challenge up but it quickly becomes more frustrating than scary.
The biggest problem with this game is the gun-builder system. The gun-builder system is just not well-implemented. It’s very flexible in what you can build but leaves very little room for improvement. You can have a fully decked out gun by the time you’re a third of the way through the game. The chips are the only way to incrementally improve a gun after that but the benefits are negligible and barely scale over the game. These are not a suitable replacement for the node grids and they rob the game of much of its RPG progression.
My go-to is always to combine a rifle with the force gun. This combo is basically unbeatable and I’m sure there are other broken combos, all of which rob the game of its scare-factor. The other problem here is that you combine the broken guns with universal ammo and you literally never have to switch guns. Even this isn’t necessarily an awful thing but remember that this is the longest Dead Space game that’s copy-pasting enemies and levels as much as possible.
Herein lies the real problem: Dead Space 3 is the longest game in the series by far but it’s also the most repetitive and has the weakest RPG progression. If this game were shorter or it didn’t have the gun-building, I don’t think either of these changes would have been so damning, but combined, they make this game a slog. You fight the same enemies over and over with the same gun you fully upgraded 5 hours ago and it just gets old. After you get your gun squared away, the improvements you can make are negligible at best, so there’s little incentive to explore, tinker with your gun, or do the game’s sidequests. Yet again, if this game didn’t have sidequests or the gun-building had better upgrade progression, these problems wouldn’t be so pronounced but combined, they amplify each other.
DS3 is nowhere near as bad as many will tell you. I’ve replayed it a few times and it’s still always a fun ride. There are some amazing moments here too. The open-ended space area at the start is fantastic, IMHO this is what they should do for Dead Space 4 just fully open-world. The snow section where you have to run from flame to flame to avoid freezing is probably my favorite part in the trilogy, and the mountain climb is epic. Unfortunately, between these epic moments is hours of repetitive combat where you fight the same enemies with the same gun in bland, linear, environments over and over. The ending areas of this game are really cool HR Geiger/Alien/Prometheus type stuff that unfortunately never lands with me because of how tired of the combat I am at that point. I’d equate this ending bit with RE4's island where it deviates too much from being a horror game and over-extends the runtime by a few hours. Everyone you talk to will give you one of the reasons I’ve laid out as to why they don’t like DS3 but IMHO, it’s the compounding nature of its problems that makes DS3 a B-tier sequel.
7.5/10 but rounding down due to glaring flaws.

This game honestly isnt as bad as I was expecting, however it is not nearly as good as the other 2 games. The story in this game isn't too terrible, especially for the DLC (which overall was actually quite good), but the main problems with this game are the gameplay. This game completely ruins the dead space gameplay formula. Instead of slowly giving you more powerful weapons as the game goes on, this game has one of the worst crafting systems I have ever seen, with a huge list of guns, non of which I knew what they did. Also you can only hold two weapons at once, which meant I pretty much just used the plasma cutter the whole game. The problem with this is that I didn't feel like I was getting better, and I just had to shoot things until they were dead, instead of using the right gun for the right enemy. This feeling is compounded by the fact that all guns use the same (very abundant I might add) ammo type. Another problem is that the upgrade system has become a lot worse as well. I honestly had no idea how to craft guns or use the upgrades at all so I just largely didn't interact with it. The biggest problem however is that the game isn't scary at all. Overall, this isn't that bad of a game (especially for an action game) but since it connects to the last two games, this is nowhere near as good as those ones.Updated 1.5 Years Ago

Super mediocre. There were some fun parts and there were some really dumb parts. It went away from horror and moved more towards action and coop. As someone who played and loved the first 2 games, I feel that this was a big step back. There were some cool coop missions though. Overall, it was fine and decently fun to play through, just did not give off the same feeling as playing the first 2 games.Updated 2 Years Ago

Some good ideas for co-op, but on the whole? Such a step down. The entire gun economy is completely broken, as most of the guns are useless. The copy-paste nature of all the side missions really drags the game on and on and on. The entire middle section of the campaign is so boring and drawn out, and it's most of the game. Luckily, the ending missions are great (even if the non-DLC ending falls a bit flat), and it is, despite all the bugs and weird difficulty spikes, a fun co-op game. Not the ideal version of this game at all.Updated 2 Years Ago

Yes, this game is that bad. I didn't like a single moment of this. Characters are unlikeable. Norton is annoying. The Rivers Cuomo villain sucks and his voice actor made it worse. Shots don't seem to hit the enemy or there's no indication that it did. there's a ton of backtracking. Kinesis is useless and stasis holds the enemy for about 2 seconds (even after fully leveling it up). Rappeling is tedious and buggy. All the enemies are just bullet sponges, while shooting the limbs don't seem to do a whole lot of damage. Rolling is pointless. Crafting was not necessary. The audio design is terrible, especially in the bench. Shared ammo is a bad idea. The graphics are good but there are so many bad animations, especially facial animations and just all around tons of bugs. I also almost gave up on this game on the last level, when I kept being insta-killed by who knows what.
The only things I liked were some fun sections. The pad things you stand on that super-power your kinesis is fun. There are some good ideas in it. I love the idea of the entire moon being an enemy. And Carver's a bro. But that's it.

Owen and I played through it and it was a mess. Stretchy necromorphs, universal ammo, microtransactions, c'mon. This isn't Dead Space. It was still a good time though, just not a Dead Space time.Updated 2.5 Years Ago
