The concept is neat, but the gameplay is pretty bare-bones and the animations could have used some more work. Still, I love timeloop games and I liked this one too.Updated 4 Weeks Ago

I completed all 4 endings by going 2-3-1-4. It's a very nice game, it's extra enjoyable to have a game like this when it's going to be the mode of skyrim, another game I love very much.Updated 1 Month Ago

I was expecting to have to solve things myself but instead this game is more just replaying the day to see different things happen and then investigate those storylines. Once I realized this I was able to enjoy it for what it was but still felt like doing some more detective work would have been fun.Updated 1.5 Months Ago

The publishers basically beg folks not to spoil anything at the title screen, so I won't, but: what a deeply, deeply weird game. I have squabbles about the load times and control scheme, but I am absolutely for weird games that don't seem to understand how deeply weird they are (as opposed to intentionally weird games, which tend to be memey and boring).Updated 2 Months Ago

Updated 4 Months Ago

An interesting puzzle/discovery game. The characters are varied, the mysteries are intriguing, and gameplay is mostly smooth. I was not really enamored of the ending, but there are moments that stick with me and solving the puzzles was fun.Updated 4.5 Months Ago

Truly a fantastic, one of a kind, game.Every character and concept felt fleshed out perfectly enough to keep me hooked and then satisfied to see everything resolved.
Even running and jumping around the city felt nice, between finding new little secrets or just listening to the lovely music.

This game´s biggest asset is it´s story. Well thought out, with interesting characters and setting. Gameplay consists of just talking to them and figuring out the central mystery. That said, this isn´t some kind of puzzle. It is unveiled gradually but this isn´t very challenging game. It has some nice twists though.Updated 6.5 Months Ago

Updated 6.5 Months Ago

Interesting game with time loop and trying to solve mysteries. Game explores a lot of interesting idea, but gameplay feels too straight forward and feels like there is only one way to solve mysteries. Without map you are sometimes lost and need to run around a lot. Sometimes you are forced to reset the loop just because you didn't do one thing before that.Graphics and the sound design of the game are nice. Game was laggy with low graphics (on Linux Mint)

For a game mostly about dialogue the writing isn't the best, from the Karen jokes at the start (which doesn't make the best first impression) to one character using "perhaps" in almost every sentence. The story also takes a bit of a dive in the second half of the game. Some of the hints in the quest-log are misleading, such as finding a "creative" way to enter somewhere, while I just simply didn't have the required items yet. I was trying to push the big boulder or find some sort of side-entrance. No hint would have been beeter.
But overall it was quite an enjoyable experience, it plays like a good example of a Fallout New Vegas quest, perhaps a bit more substantial.

A surprisingly good story-driven first-person quest.High points for setting and plot, voice acting, characters, writing (at times), some interesting gameplay mechanics, alternative ways to move the story forward. Bonus points for straightforwardness - normally, I have to refer to to walkthroughs at some point for this kind of games, but it was not necessary here; and a relatively short duration.
Some valid criticisms can be made about characters, game design, technical issues. About mid-game, it becomes quite linear. However, for a small indie project, an outstanding achievement, and a decent break from same-y AAA titles. Solid 8/10.
Playthrough statistics: 9hrs, 3 / 4 endings done (including the best one), 26/41 trophies.

The Forgotten City is simply a masterpiece for it's kind.A few suggestions to really enjoy this wonderful game:
- Give it time to get into the story during the first hours (patience)
- Pay attention to the dialogs and don't skip them (thoroughness)

Bom jogo! Interessante desde o primeiro minuto. Muito legal que uma experiência como essa tenha se originado em um mod. Tudo é simples e isso é bom. O loop temporal não cansa nas 7/8h de jogo. A narrativa funciona e não dá vontade de parar.Updated 1 Year Ago

+ Multiple endings, all of them enjoyable;
+ Great voice-acting, sound design and soundtrack.
- Awkward animations;

Tightly executed little time loop walking simulator. These types of things rely on a powerful plot and this one DELIVERS. It's an unusually well-written referendum on ethics with all sorts of intrigue and conflicts. Yum. Play this.Unlike a lot of time loopy games, the developers devised clever gameplay shortcuts to avoid repetition, and so I never felt bored. The storytelling is remarkably clear despite sloshing around in a hot tub full of philosophy and time paradoxes. **Less effective loop games like 12 Minutes should be taking notes.**
Forgotten City originated as a Skyrim mod -- a mod I'd never played or even heard of -- and it *feels* like a mod. Animations and controls seem like a low budget carbon copy of Skyrim. Like pretty much all time loopers, there's no replay value once you've seen the endings. Still waiting for one that's deep enough to address that!
85/100. Stellar.

Engaging narrative excellently woven through conversations, with multiple twists and revelations. Sparse action sequences were average, and the game is mostly conversation based. A few times my objectives were only clear via the quest log instead of coming up organically, which cheapened the experience, in my opinion.Updated 1.5 Years Ago

I loved this game! If you have even a slight interest in history, philosophy or the Roman and Greek culture, you will enjoy this a lot. The game is quite intelligent, very well written and highly instructive, with frequent references to Greek philosophical thought and Roman literature. At the same time, it's a lot of fun to figure out the different endings.Updated 1.5 Years Ago

Amazing narrative experience in one of my favourite historical eras - ancient Rome. Had a lot of fun investigating the city and attempting to uncover the mystery of this ancient forgotten city lost to time.I feared that it may become a bit too repetitive but the developer managed to implement ideas to avoid this happening. Those golden statues remined me of the time I visited the preserved ancient Roman city of Pompeii.

Updated 1.5 Years Ago

Very fun game that uses time-travel to create entertaining puzzles and allows the player to find unique and interesting ways to progress in the game. Story is very interesting at first though I personally found the latter parts a little jumbled and disappointing. All in all a great game and a must play for any time-travel lovers; the way the game plays with time-travel mechanics will make any other time-travel game feel hollow.Updated 1.5 Years Ago

Huge Skyrim fan here. I'm also in love for Roman and Greek mythology. This game was simply what I've been looking for YEARS. Story is fun and really catchy and the writing is absolutely great. Music is cool and it references Skyrim's soundtrack every here and then, loved that. Gameplay is okay and it fits the overall experience although it's really simple. There are a lot of dialogue options and MANY Ancient Rome and Greek references. It's outstanding how this whole game have been made by just three people. That's unbelievable. It has it flaws, some bug here and there in particular but it's totally reasonable. I devoured it. I absolutely want more games like this, with such a similar setting!Updated 1.5 Years Ago

A kind of mystery adventure with time loop mechanics. Takes place in a city in the ancient Roman Empire. As soon as you or others break the so-called Golden Rule (stealing/killing, etc.), the golden statues located there start shooting at us and want to kill us. This was a bit irritating, especially at first, because you basically only have two options: let yourself be killed or run back to a portal. If you reach this portal without being killed, you keep all the items (that you stole beforehand, for example) in the new time loop that follows. In the course of the game, you'll remember the way back to said portal better, which makes it a little easier. Nevertheless, at some point the constant process became a little too uniform for me.As for the quite interesting characters, there is quite extensive and in-depth talks with good English voice acting. But you lose a bit of the overview because numerous quests pop up through conversations and you can be overwhelmed by information. It's hard to remember every detail. You don't get to some of the necessary puzzles right away, sometimes only various option dialogs trigger new processes, etc. Often you then run around in the city and hope to get new information through various conversations. In addition, recurring same/similar processes through the time loop mechanics.
Positive: In addition to the adventure mechanics, there are also some more action-packed sections. At a certain point in the game, however, I felt compelled to use a walkthrough. There are 4 endings, with endings 2 and 3 basically being identical in ending sequence. Ending 1 is more of a joke by the developers. The best ending is logically Ending 4, the final section in particular was done very charmingly (you see almost all the characters from the game again, just a little differently... no spoilers).
Scoring is extremely difficult in the game. It was sometimes too confusing for me as far as all the puzzles are concerned and it also took a while until I understood the basic principle of the game. Without a walkthrough at a certain point I wouldn't have gotten all the endings though. The action sections loosen up well, there are interesting characters, and the atmosphere is also right. Loading times on the Xbox One unfortunately long, graphically nice (Skyrim Mod). Overall quite an interesting game, but I'm not sure if it really deserves the very high ratings (Metacritic in the 88 range, IGN 9/10, etc.). I don't see it that high.
- Time loop mechanics
- repetitive days/time loops sometimes a bit confusing: some tasks don't have to be repeated again/others do
- sometimes you are almost forced to run back to the portal, but you don't always know when it is necessary and when not (in the sense of: was that a mistake to trigger the Golden Rule or not)
- unbearably long loading times on One S, even while running between areas (probably due to changing light/shading etc.)
- a lot is repeated
- Ending 2 and 3 is almost exactly identical
- covers civilisation, ethical and philosophical topics
- interesting and very different characters
- good action variety
