The fleshed out world is great. Combat is great but I could do without Synergy skills. Music is not as good as the Remake. The ending is terrible. Overall it's good but lost a bit of its magic

This game is one of my favorites of all time, and a huge step up from Remake (which I already thought was a fantastic game). The combat is better, the environments are beautiful, the music is the best in the genre, the openness of the game is refreshing, and the game makes you work for the completion. A lot of people complain about the amount of content and how "bloated" the experience might feel, but the game gives you no pressure to require you to do these missions and side missions.
The story changes compared to the original intensify, and your milage may vary depending on whether you want the remake trilogy to stick to the originals as close as they can, but the changes worked for me, and I cannot wait to see how they stick the landing after this incredible entry in the series. Close favorite to be my favorite Final Fantasy of all time.

A memorable game. It features some of the best moments I've experienced in the series. It improves on its predecessor in every way. The music and characters are among the best you'll encounter. The gameplay has improved significantly, with the addition of synchronized actions being a great success. The new playable characters are a lot of fun. Graphically, it's one of the best on PS5 so far. For me, it's one of the best of the year. Although the open world felt a bit tiring, and I didn't like some of the story decisions, it's undeniable that this game deserves a high rating. It almost reaches perfection. I played it after the original FF VII, and it was a memorable experience. However, I still prefer REMAKE, probably due to its linearity and the element of surprise.

Unbelievable. I can't remember the last time I cared about a game and it's characters so much. I loved every single minute of this game. While others take issue with the open world filler and mini games, to me, this made the game even more special, and is true to the spirit of the original.
Absolutely spectacular.

As a player of the original FFVII, I really enjoyed this Rebirth and I think it's made for people like me. I think they've recreated the world and emotion of FFVII in a way that's hard to beat. I was very excited for 90% of the game and only at the end did I get a little overwhelmed with the amount of quests and side tasks needed to complete the game 100%.

FF7 Rebirth is a great continuation of Remake and is also a great reimagining of the rest of FF7’s Disc 1. There are so many new areas to explore and they all look beautiful. The characters are so talkative and expressive and I really love seeing them as friends. Combat is made even better with new party members and new abilities added to Remakes characters. The story covers basically the same ground as the original with a few added segments and I really enjoyed it. I do think the game has a bit of a pacing problem at points, with some segments dragging on for a bit too long, but at the same time some parts are expanded on in great ways. The biggest issue with the game in my opinion is the open world elements. The objectives are the exact same in each area. Fight a pack of enemies, activate a tower, dig up items with your chocobo, find a lifespring, etc. It was a lot of fun in the first few areas, but as the game went on I got more and more bored of trying to complete it all. If the open world content was just a little more meaningful and impacted gameplay in bigger ways besides just being able to make new materia (a lot of which isnt even worthwhile), It would feel a lot more fun to explore. The Protorelic quests were the only part of the exploration I was truly excited to do after leaving Junon. Rebirth is a really great game, that puts most of its effort into the amazing main content, and usually leaves scraps for the side content.

This game demands a lot of your time. Initially, I focused on doing everything, hoping it would be worth it to spend time on side quests and points of interest on the map. Unfortunately, I started to feel fatigued after a while. There's a large amount of repetitive content, which I felt slowed the pacing too much. I ended up ignoring the side stuff later in the story, but by then, it was almost too late - I was already a bit burnt out.

The combat mechanics are entertaining, and it's a lot of fun to experiment with materia, character builds, and party compositions. They could have added more quality-of-life features, such as materia layouts, to make it easier to switch between different setups.

Some other mechanics left a lot of room for improvement, like riding chocobos, which sometimes feels really awkward. Some of the mini-games are really frustrating, such as a mandatory box-throwing section that feels clunky and goes on for way too long.

I love the music, and it's very nostalgic to hear it again. The graphics are great, and the environments are varied.

The best part of the whole game is Queen's Blood, the card mini-game. It's fun, addicting, and serves well as a nice little break from the regular gameplay.

When I look back, there were plenty of things I didn't like. However, I still believe the game is worth your time, at least for the main story, some of the side quests, and Queen's Blood. Just don't sink too much time into the side stuff if you don't really enjoy that kind of repetitive content.

FF7 Remake was my first FF game, and it was an absolute blast. So FF7 Rebirth became my most anticipated PS5 game. It hurts to admit that it ultimately disappointed.
After a slow start, which seems to embody the worst elements of Remake (overly long cutscenes, QTE events, incomprehensible storytelling), Rebirth feels good. There is good mix of exploration, open-world activities, mini-games and side quests in the first 2 zones. The cadence of "corridor chapter/open-world chapter" also is employed here. The battle system is improved with synergy skills and abilities, perfect blocks, new materia types, new skills, and characters, each feeling distinct. There is much to learn about the world.

However, as it progressed, problems became more difficult to ignore. Two points that bothered me, but which I don't see mentioned in reviews often:
1) unforgivable technical state, for a PS5 exclusive: quality mode feels extermely choppy (like 20something fps) - unlike in Remake. I played most of the game in performance, and at times it looked like PS3 game or worse: characters with bulging eyes, low quality textures, and, my favourite, very angular Tifa's cat's bowl. There is also considerable pop-up.
2) amount of self-references from Remake: the Honeybee Inn scene, although mechanically just another QTE, was mindblowing in execution. In Rebirth, there are 2 sections built mostly on the same principles, and they felt mid. Same applies for other mechanics, plot elements and situations. I don't think it was really necessary to cram 90% of Remake's cast into this game, most of them irrelevant. When you fight the same character for the 3rd time, it's hard to feel the stakes.

Most importantly, though, FF7:Rebirth just does not know when to stop. Like a clingy person, it continues to seek attention long past the point when it was reasonable to say goodbye. Starting from zone 4, I became increasingly tired of a constant stream of new mini-games and their hard modes, new side quests in old areas, new Combat Simulator challenges (there are at least 4 versions of it!), new open-world activities, new battles till the next important story beat, and so on. If only it paid off in the end, but alas... Chapter 13 is a very long dungeon, which took me 3 sittings and about 8 hrs to finish, and still left me exhausted. Chapter 14 is, gameplay wise, half cutscene, half incredibly drawn out boss fights. Story wise, it was supposed to be a bold spin of the classic moments, but to me felt like some anime-level bullsh*t.
News about Rebirth's underperforming sales left me with mixed feelings, and I hope that SE will interpret this signal properly: to make the final part tighter, streamlined, focused experience - akin to Remake. 7/10.

Playthrough statistics: 135hrs on normal difficulty, completed all side quests (except for the last one - UPA), open world activities (except for Gilgamesh island) and minigames, all CS challenges available during the first playthrough (except for a few late-game ones).

Overall , very negative experience with this game, massive downgrade over the original, and even a downgrade from Remake, which was already very flawed.

Negatives:
the floaty and button-mashy combat;
the filler and bloated story points;
the unnecessarily convoluted plot (compared to the original);
Ubisoft-like Open World activities;
Sephiroth as an ultra final boss, again;
lengthy for the sake of it;
CHADLEY.

Positives:
More fleshed out main characters, especially Yuffie (who I personally disliked, but was an improvement over the Original game) and Tifa;
The presentation, overall, is gorgeous. It's a beautiful game, with nice VA, Audio, etc.

I went up and down a lot during the game. Loved it, then hated it, then loved it again. I found the combat a slog and frustrating by the end, I pushed through for the story but that was underwhelming, nothing really happens in the end and just leaves things ambiguous and confusing. But I enjoyed the journey, the world is beautiful and there's so much to explore and find. There's a fine line between a world being fleshed out or just padded, and I guess this one can come down to your personal perspective. I can see it both ways. I'm glad I finished it, I think when the 3rd game comes out I'll probably just stick to easy mode and play for the story

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a good game that suffers from the weight of it's own existence and expectations at times but is a good game at the end of the day. Starting off with the gameplay, it is just a better version of Remake's combat although the new additions range in usefulness, synergy attacks are good but the addition of a skill tree is laughable with it's "increase elemental damage by 3%" type of skills that are way too common. The new characters are a mixed bag: Red XIII is fun with a unique identity identity compared to the rest of the party which can also can be said about Cait Sith, but the difference is that Red XIII's move set is fun where as Cait Sith feels like a chore that can barely contribute to the party overall. Although the game has a lot of flying enemies so Barret and Aerith's usefulness is already far above some other characters which discourages party variety as some characters can only get into the air using ATB abilities which is usually not worth the effort. The term "mixed bag" actually applies to a lot of the new changes made in Rebirth, emotional moments for Barret and Red XIII are a lot better here, but the smaller moments between are better across the entire party and Cloud is a muhc more enjoyable character here than his mopey Remake version. But the game ruins perhaps the the biggest emotional moment of the original game: the final moment of the game is completely ruined with the game being so up its own ass about being an alternative to the original game. Rebirth can't help but complicate one of the most iconic moments in gaming with timeline shit that sucks out all the soul of the moment for the sake of fan service that really should have been saved for the ending of the story. This ties into a major issue of Remake, the issue of the game being too long but it harms this game differently, instead of things simply being drawn out (which some sections still are), the jarring lack of original content is noticeable. Every beat of the original game is very fleshed out which can lead to new content but there is no plot point that is wholly original, which is only really a major problem because of the "changing fate" plot point from Remake as it feels inconsequential. One of the few original aspects of the remake series is Chadley who ties in to all of the open world aspects but he doesn't really feel like he fits in but that can't be said about the gameplay associated with him, although this is still a major improvement from the original game which had very little to fill it's over world. The open world activities are fun if repetitive and a bit bland but you have a 20% chance of getting an activity that is just plainly not fun which can also be said about the side quests. This game ties each side quest into a specific party member which is a great change as they allow for growth that feels more personal, even if the quest reward isn't worth your time, it is worth it for the characters but sometimes they just have bad game play (chicken chasing or the boxing minigame for example). Rebirth brings back the minigames and again they vary in quality but with the exception one specific game, they aren't intrusive to main story progression. They even added some which lets the game really capture the spirit of the original game which the game isn't always able to do, if it even tries to try recapture the product-of-it's-time funk that the original is bursting with. More so the graphics are unable to capture the uniqueness of the original because the soundtrack is phenomenal, it fully retains the original game's vibe and even adds to it with a wide range of music that stands out from other RPG's. The game does have the predictable epic orchestra remix's but it also has some music that is the total opposite of that like the Chocobo or Dog Chasing theme, the variety in this soundtrack is second to none and it contributes a lot to the experience. I know I've spent a lot of this review complaining but at the end of the day this game is still Final Fantasy 7, it's the same story as the original with some changes and the gameplay is still the same as Remake's, this game is good without a doubt but there are a lot of areas where it could have been better. If you are looking to play FF7 for the first time, go with the original, I don't think Remake trilogy will be able to fully deliver on enhancing or even replicating that experience, it simply takes too long and whenever the "changing fate" stuff pops up, it ruins the original story.

Main story is amazing, side content and balancing is a bit off. Just finished will make proper review later.

Rip Aerith?

Proper Review:

FF7 Rebirth plays very similarly to FF7 Remake with some new additions and tweaks that make the combat way better. The biggest new change is the folio system and the introduction of synergy moves. Folios are basically a skill tree with each skill costing a certain SP amount (kind of like the weapon skill tree in remake) and synergies are included in the skill tree. Synergies are moves that will be used around the middle point of the battle or multiple times during a boss similar to a limit break. Synergies are activated when 2 characters have used a minimum amount of ATB bars and each character has to use at least the amount they need to. For example, Firework Blade is a synergy avaliabe to Cloud and Aerith which requires 4 ATB bars to be used by both. Synergies also have temporary effects like unlimited MP or 3 ATB bars. Rebirth also adds a shit ton of side game modes like Queens Blood, 3D Brawler, G-Bike. Loveless play and much more, there are so many that I missed a couple that I didn't realize until after I watched some content on people achieving the platinum trophy.

The story and characters are incredible strong and a high point. Characters like Tifa, Barret and Red XVIII were all way more interesting in this game than in FF7 Remake. Being able to move on from Midgar gives this game a lot more unique locations and new gameplay opportunities that Remake could never do. I don't enjoy the Pseudo open world approach Square Enix took with some of the areas. The various little activities present in every region are all very similar and tedious in many ways like finding towers to unlock sections of a map, finding summoning crystals to reduce summon power, or wrangling chocobos to become mounts in every region. The main story for Rebirth was way more enjoyable than Remake. Remake introduced us to majority of the characters and Rebirth takes the time to expand them by giving the players back stories, motivations, and creating a lot of mysteries that will be answered in the final game of the trilogy (when im 35 , im 20 rn). As said previously characters like Barret and Red XVIII get regions which help explain their back stories (Cosmo Canyon and Corel) while Tifa gets a small section in the Gongaga reactor. The ending of the game is incredible with an amazing multi phase boss fight and a heart breaking death. Aerith was my favourite character and while I was spoiled that she dies in the original game I was very confident that with her rise in popularity Square Enix wouldn't kill her. I was partially correct as she is technically killed but also not. Over all the main story was amazing but I feel like it had quite a lot of negatives. For starters the game's main story feels back loaded, pretty much the game feels fairly random until Cosmo Canyon and the introduction of the black materia. While the game tries to remedy this by having the cast follow the black robes found in Remake it still feels very random and very drawn out. I believe the original FF7 wouldn't have this exact same issue since you wouldn't spend to much time in those parts. I believe I spend about ~20 hours before reaching Cosmo Canyon and having the black Materia introduced (while it would be maybe 5 hours in the original game). The way I would describe the main campaign of Rebirth would be a confusing section as Zack (building mystery which is perfectly fine) -> a strong section in Nibelheim -> bunch of robe following until Cosmo Canyon -> strong sections in the temple and ancient city -> final boss fight -> end of the game.

To conclude a lengthy review. FF7 Rebirth is an amazing game totally worth your time that falls into quite a few pit falls. Majority of these pitfalls come from Square Enix's decision to make the FF7 Remake games into a trilogy rather than a faithful adaptation or one large 100+ hour adventure (to clarify I like the idea of "rebuilding" the FF7 story and to add new meaning similar to what was done with Evangelion). My only negatives of Rebirth are the open world implementation and the fact that it feels like the middle to a story with a interesting start and a suspenseful end.

Episkt!

In every sense, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth feels like a passion project that goes beyond all expectations. The sheer amount of content blew me away, which made the world feel even more rich and full of life! There were so many moments that impressed me throughout the game. I still can’t believe that the developers pulled off so much spectacle in a game that’s already absolutely massive in scope. The parts I love most about FFVII are its world and characters, and they nailed it! Plus, the presentation is the best I’ve even seen in a video game! I also really like how deep the combat gets with the new synergy attacks and abilities! Exploring the massive world of FFVII Rebirth gave a huge sense of wonder and excitement! All the new mini-games and modes of transportation kept the game feeling fresh throughout my 90 hour playthrough. While not all the mini-games hit home, I especially loved playing Queen’s Blood and racing Chocobos.

I’m going to speak broadly about the plot and do my best to avoid spoilers. Even though I absolutely loved individual moments, I felt like the game’s overall pacing was too slow. This is an inherent problem because Rebirth is adapting the build-up from the original game and then translating it to a massive open world. We essentially don’t get much emotional payoff because it’s naturally coming in the third and final installment. While I was optimistic at the end of Remake, I just feel left hanging with a million questions at the end of Rebirth. Ultimately, I do like where things end off at. I’m completely confident that the final installment will blow us away with a decade of build-up. Rebirth went above and beyond my wildest expectations and delivered a truly impactful experience. It may have an overly convoluted plot, but I sincerely adore this ambitious love letter to Final Fantasy VII.

Overall outstanding story, fleshed out characters. ATB system is nothing to write home about still. Not a fan of the repetitive side content that's used to flesh out the games various locations. To me this is low confidence for design in general, plenty of ways to create interest and reward in enticing the player to venture into certain areas.

Pros:
+ Enriching combat experience that was improved since Integrade; synergy abilities, party member changes, skill tree are just to name a few
+ Beautiful landscape and cutscenes, characters feel alive - especially in their movements and facial expressions
+ Counterpoint to the wasted landscape is that the POIs are all marked pretty early. It may be a con for those who don't like that but for this game it works.
+ Various mini-games and many more than Integrade
+ Reputation system with party members to tailor your romantic or bromantic interests
+ Story is flushed out and elaborates much on Integrade's previous problems for me; I had a feeling this game would do that so my full opinion on Integrade was reserved. That being said, holistically, Integrade was an amazing game looking at it from a series standpoint, but because of the confusing story and needed context from this game and presumably the next game, the rating for Integrade still is 95%

Cons:
- Cannot run 4K 60fps; either 4K 30fps or 1080p 60fps
- Landscape is deceptively big, it's mostly barren; it is also hard to navigate in places such as the Gongaga region due to it's landscape having verticality
- Having only the terrain action to maneuver around the open world is very annoying at times
- Photo mode, although easily accessible, doesn't have too many features/customizations compared to other PS5 games
- Some minigames are just way too hard Looking at you Leapfrog and the Chicken Coop Quest in Gongaga reminds me much of the pull-up mini-game from Integrade, it's no skill just BS
- Confusing ending with the multiple words - multiverse shenanigans. I'll let them cook and see if they resolve that during the third game though

Very good graphics and worldbuilding, very likeable characters (besides Cloud), good story.
But:
to many stupid minigames. I hated them mostly and you found them even in the side stories or main story: Here, search for some important item, but in step 2 you have to play a game of towers or something. Hold some ridiculous looking statue in the air, to finde a rock that looks like something. Lure chickens with a stupid can. Walk very slowly behind a group of cloaked men. Worst thing was the Gold Saucer, where you have to take part in a theater play with ridiculous QTE button pressing.

It aggravated me. Glad to have finished.

Final Fantasy 7 rebirth is a masterpiece. There is nothing more to say. If you are a fan of final fantasy 7 or just a final fantasy fan, this is the game for you.
This game gives you the details that were missing in the OG FF7 from the 90s. You get more in-depth understanding of the characters and even some of the side characters. There is more of an emphasis on the villains and understanding their plight. There is no lack of depth in this game. Even side characters have a great amount of details behind them. The game does everything to try to cover every question that could possibly be asked.
However, as much as it covers all these aspects it is also it's greatest weakness. The game is incredibly long. There is a multitude of side quests that you will never run out of things to do. However, with all these side quests it seems like levelling up doesn't come easy. That is still limited to the regular grinding of monsters, which seems to take forever to level up. If you are not doing some of the side missions I would expect the final levels would become very difficult.
If you are a fan of the original FF7 and are disappointed with how the genre has moved more to an action RPG, don't be. The game feels more well polished than the FF7 Remake and the fighting feels a lot more natural. While the game doesn't force you to play as other characters, it is wise to play as the other characters as well and understanding their limits of what they can do in battle.

9/10 - The game story was amazing, there was no short coming on side content that you can choose to do or not do. The game never felt very demanding for time it had great pacing. However, I felt it was just too long. There was too many side quests and sometimes the main story would be shadowed by the side quests. There is great action and an amazing story that truly puts you in the shoes of each character. The story puts a spin on the original that will keep you guessing on how things will play out right until the end. This is a must play if you are a final fantasy fan.

OBS3: Eu nunca joguei o Final Fantasy VII original (apenas o Remake e o Rebirth).

The best feeling when experiencing any sort of media, is when your expectations get completely blown away. This only gets amplified when you set the bar of expectations really high to begin with.

That's how I feel about FF7 Rebirth.

This game was absolutely phenomenal. It's a combination of everything I love about video games, neatly put together into one big package.

Normal difficulty - true ending

Story: As a ff7 fan it was very good. Sure there's the typical Nomura story confusion.
Characters: Zack is the best!
Music: Beautiful.
Gameplay: Still not a huge fan of the fighting system. Overall good, but I didn't like the "open world mechanics". I quit doing sidequests etc mostly after the second level and enjoyed the game so much more.
Graphics: Cutscenes were stunning but ingame graphics could've been better and I was expecting more.

Story 8/10
Characters 10/10
Music 9/10
Gameplay 7/10
Graphics 8/10

The scope of this game is fantastic. I am super impressed by everything about this game. This doesn't feel like "just" a remake. It's so much more than that. It carries the soul and heart of FF VII, but it also transports us to its rich world with different landscapes and very heartfelt emotions and character relationships.

What I liked:
* The main quests are fun. They're all different and distinct from each other, one moment you're walking around with a group of soldiers, the next you're barrelling through crates as Barrett.
* What the team has created based on the original game is so incredibly clever and immersive.
* The cadence of exploring different worlds (100%-ing) them as you go, and main quests is very satisfying.
* Combat is fun. Synergy is a great new addition.
* Levelling up is a bit more easygoing. No need to level up your weapons separately, you only add one to two powers to the weapon you equip rather than a full skill tree.
* Exploring on Chocobo feels really good. You can instantly pick up a group of crafting items rather than independently when you walk.
* Queen's Blood is really fun. The best card game in FF in my opinion. You can't lose any cards when you get beaten, that adds to the charm because you can retry multiple times.
* The characters are so well designed you see even pupils dilating when characters respond to someone else.
* The music. Love it!
* The final battle was quite the rush.

What I didn't like:
* Towards the end of the game I stopped focusing on the side quests (I missed two probably) and mini-games. After 80 hours of playtime I didn't feel like sinking much more time into it, I like that I could if I wanted to though.

You can tell this game was made with the utmost love for the source material which is really refreshing to see when so many returns to older series feel soulless. The core gameplay loop really gets it's hooks in you and the combat is a real refinement compared to remake.

This game is vast. Multiple open world zones have their own exploration, side quests and the amount of mini games you'll discover is genuinely staggering. Some of these extra activities are really fun and others verge on filler, the good thing is that you can engage the minimal amount in those you aren't too fond of and there's enough substance in a lot of these games to get invested if you want to.

As a fan of the original I'm blown away with how much of a joy returning to the world of FF7 was in this game. It's a challenge for sure, I'm not sure if it's just me, but as soon as I felt I had a handle on combat, a boss would completely throw me through a loop. This can be frustrating, and even at the end of the game I don't quite feel that I've got the combat down, but it's still a really rewarding system.

I'll leave discussion of story for this review, but it was definitely a satisfying middle chapter to the trilogy.

Overall I would definitely recommend, it's going to take a lot to top this for game of the year.

One of my favorite games. It is hard to put into words how much I adore this game. I just loved getting lost in this world.

The characters, story, and gameplay are just phenomenal. The side content is also mostly really fun. I did every side quest which were a blast to do and you get to spend more time with the characters. I got a high score in almost every mini game and it is insane how effort went into each one. Some of them could be their own games. The Intel missions were probably the most repetitive thing I did in the game, but they were mostly fine (not including the proto relic quest which was fantastic). I recommend to not force yourself to engage in the side content if you start to get tired of it. It is there for people like me that want to completely immerse themselves in the world. You can ignore the side content and still have a great experience. But I do recommend doing the green side quests at least since they offer great world building and character development.

I will definitely do a hard mode run soonish because I already miss this game. Highly recommend this to any RPG fan!

Fantastic second part in the FF7 Remake trilogy. Takes a few hits for way too minigames, and the platinum for this one to get was miles crazier than the first part (looking at you post game Chadley combat sim challenges). The ending didn't completely stick the landing with me either, but I also said the same thing about the first one too. I've loved these games up until the last 20 minutes or so. Regardless, I can't wait to play part 3 and see how everything will end up concluding. Definitely one of the best games of 2024 so far - there's a lot to really love here, and if you are going for everything, you'll definitely get your money's worth.

Greatest Final Fantasy experience in 20 years. Some dialogue and plot momentum could use some nuance in its delivery, but the moment to moment gameplay and story pay offs are why this franchise was once at the top of the industry. Rebirth should be the groundwork for future titles and will undoubtedly be remembered as a franchise best.

Lovingly crafted, huge in scope and ambitious with its minigames and side activities. It feels like a conflicted experience sometimes, it sometimes sticks too close to the original source, and sometimes when it deviates it doesn't add anything meaningful (lots of padding and filler content). However some of the additions are great, and the extra fidelity that the characters are depicted in is wonderful. The build up to the finale was nerve wracking, and the consequences are confusing. I felt baffled, but I'm hopeful that the ending is leading to a worthwhile payoff. The gameplay was honestly a bit too chaotic, too many systems that were ultimately not that useful. Too many visual effects that made the combat hard to read. Not much strategy required for most battles. Some boss fights were interesting, but most encounters were just button mashing fests. Great soundtrack, good performances by the VOs. Game was too long in my opinion, but it the good parts made it worth it.
