A couple of good, short games for January:

    1/4- Titan Souls (PS4) 3h 6m
    1/10- Stories: The Path of Destinies (PS4) 6h 54m
    1/19- Inside (PS4) 2h 56m
    1/25- Severed (WiiU) 5h 58m

My favorite game of the month was easily Severed. First person dungeon crawling has never been a genre that I've taken to, but Severed managed to keep me engaged all the way through.

This is a great game! I just played it a few months ago and actually got the platinum trophy. This game will always be special to me as it is my first platinum trophy. Fantastic visuals and music, with a good gameplay loop. I love that you can constantly change the difficulty throughout the experience, just like in Bastion. I never really felt 100% comfortable with the gameplay, but as it becomes more comfortable, the game becomes more rewarding. I would highly recommend at least a play for Transistor and the platinum trophy is obtainable if chasing trophies is up your alley.

Knocked out a nice chunk this month:

    11/6- Fire Emblem (WiiU) 28h 29m
11/12- Super Paper Mario (Wii) 15h 56m REPLAY
    11/20- Batman: Arkham Knight (PS4) 43h 48m
    11/25- Limbo (PS4) 2h 34m
11/30- Lost Winds: Winter of the Melodias (Wii) 3h 8m REPLAY

    BEST

Arkham Knight was fantastic, one of the best AAA games of this generation and a fitting cap to the series.

    WORST

While I enjoyed every game I played this month, Fire Emblem was my least favorite. The first localized FE title and the only one I hadn't played to this point, it lacked many of the aspects and systems that newer games have established. Not bad, but just kind of basic and a boring story.

    Another solid month for me:

    10/1- Abzu (PS4) 1h 32m
    10/4- Soma (PS4) 7h 39m
    10/14- Resident Evil REmake HD (PS4) 7h 47m REPLAY
    10/21- Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 (3DS) 8h 32m
    10/23- Shadow Complex Remastered (PS4) 5h 26m

I've loved the RE Remaster for a very long time. It was one of the first survival horror games that really hooked me in and made me such a huge fan of the genre. Replaying it today, I can see all kinds of faults that I never thought about as a scared middle schooler, but it is still an outstanding game. One of the best locations in gaming history and a must play game if you enjoy old school game design.
Soma and Shadow Complex were both great. Both games were exactly what I wanted to play when I finally played them.
Azure Striker 2 was another solid entry in the series and introduced another fun playable character. While I enjoyed playing as both characters, I felt like the overall level design suffered having to appease to two different move sets. All in all I enjoyed the sequel, but am a little worried this series is never going anywhere beyond constant reiterations.
So far one of my biggest disappointments of the year is Abzu. The game felt like a recycled Journey that lacks any of the emotional punch. I can understand why some people would love this game (it is really damn beautiful), but for me it just did not resonate.

Good month, I got through quite a few games:

    8/6- Axiom Verge (WiiU) 14h 28m
8/20- Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii) 55h 58m REPLAY
    8/27- Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor (PS4) 27h 28m
    8/29- Transistor (PS4) 7h 5m

All four of these games were great fun.
    - Favorite has to be the replay of FE:RD. I love Fire Emblem, it is probably one of my top 10 favorite series. Radiant Dawn isn't one of my all time favorite in the series though, because of it's sometimes absurd difficulty. The sheer amount of reinforcements that show up on these maps is astounding, but nevertheless, it is still FE and still has amazing gameplay.
    - I finally got my first Platinum trophy on a PS console in Transistor. It is a fantastic game, but took a little while for me to warm up to it. The presentation is the real showpiece of this game.
    - Axiom Verge was a fantastic modern Metroidvania. There really is only one big issue that bothers me with this game and that is the complete lack of quick travel. I know this game was made entirely by one man and for that I am astounded, but oh how I wish he could have included a quick travel system into the game.
    - Lastly for the month is Middle-Earth. My feelings on this game were all over the place. The first night I played it, I hated it and couldn't put my finger on why that was. I got past my initial trepidation and found an enjoyable, albeit repetitive checkbox game. I feel as if this game has to be a victim of hype for me as well. Too much praise has been heaped on this game that is nothing more than a lesser Arkham clone with one cool new feature.

Only 2, but one was a monumental undertaking:

    8/22- Xenoblade Chronicles X (WiiU) 125h 40m
8/25- Super Castlevania IV (WiiU) 2h 36m REPLAY

No bad games in August. I'd been working on Xenoblade for almost 2 months with no other games being played. It was a fantastic game that perfectly met my expectations for what the game was going to be. There are numerous issues I have with the game, but the pure gameplay loop kept me invested for much longer then I had anticipated.

Super Castlevania IV is a game I never played on SNES. I played this gem for the first time, roughly five years ago and initially was not fond of the stiff controls, but the more I went back to it, the more I started to adjust to it's style of play. This is the third time I've beaten SC4 and love it more every time I finish it. Might even go back and try to speed run it.

    Only a few last month:

    7/4- Zero Time Dilemma (3DS) 23h 57m
    7/8- God of War III (PS3) 9h 55m
    7/10- Gone Home (PS4) 1h 34m

Zero Time Dilemma was easily my favorite game of July. The Zero Escape series has been a favorite of mine since 999 and this was a fitting capper on the trilogy. I will say though that this was my least favorite of the trilogy and seemed to have the worst pacing of the three games.
I'd played GoWIII when it first arrived on PS3 many years ago, but had never gone back to it until now. Originally, I remember thinking it was my least favorite GoW, but upon replays of the first three games it is now my favorite. The boss fights are much more epic and the stakes actually seem high compared to the other games. Also I decided to play in titan mode, so maybe these games are just more fun in an increased difficulty.
Lastly, Gone Home was just a victim of hype for me. It was a fine game, but it had already been spoiled for me.

Somehow beat quite a few and went on vacation:

    6/3- Half Life (PS2) 11h 59m Replay
    6/4- Fire Emblem: Fates - Revelation (3DS) 38h 52m
    6/6- Half Life 2 (PS3) 11h 51m Replay
    6/9- Half Life 2: Episode 1 (PS3) 3h 23m Replay
    6/10- Half Life 2: Episode 2 (PS3) 4h 37m Replay
6/20- Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance (WiiU) 10h 27m
    6/27- God of War II (PS2) 10h 47m Replay

A fairly lengthy list for me. Going back to replays this month felt right to me. The Half Life series is still phenomenal, if not dated.
FE:F-R was just too much Fire Emblem for me. By the time I finally got around to this installment, I was just tired of playing FE. It's still a great game, but it's too much of a good thing. Castlevania: HoD was a surprise for me. It doesn't have very high reviews and I've never heard much mention of it, but I really enjoyed my time with this installment. Plus it just always feels great to jump in to a Metroidvania.
God of War II is fine. I loved it when it came out, but I've grown to realize I'm not a huge fan of the series.

Only a few from me this month:

    5/9- Layers of Fear (PS4) 3h 11m
    5/16- Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (PS4) 17h 4m
    5/17- Super Meat Boy (WiiU) 4h 14m

By far the best game I played in May was Uncharted 4. It is one of the most visual stunning games I have ever played, with some of the greatest presentation quality in gaming to boot. U4 takes the series to new heights and established the 4 games as one of my most beloved series in modern gaming.

Super Meat Boy is a game I played years ago on X360, but never was able to buy. I still love the game, but really just flew through the game as I'd beaten most of it before.

My least favorite game of the year so far goes to Layers of Fear. I wanted to love this game as survival horror has always been one of my favorite genres. The game never worked for me on any level as it felt like a greatest hits of horror tropes. Horror should never bore, which unfortunately is what happened with me while drudging through the final stages of this game.

Quite a few for me in April:

    4/2- Firewatch (PS4) 3h 48m
    4/10- Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS4) 10h 6m
    4/15- Super C (WiiU) 1h 20m
    4/15- 6180 the moon (WiiU) 55m
    4/16- Bastion (PS4) 9h 32m
    4/18- Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (PS4) 8h 9m
    4/19- Unravel (PS4) 5h 36m
    4/30- Star Fox Zero (WiiU) 12h 50m

Didn't play any games of significant length, but did clear a bunch of shorties out of the backlog. Uncharted 2 & 3 are by far my favorite games of the month. Both are amazing games that I can't believe I skipped the first time they came out. Incredibly excited for A Thief's End now.
Now I'm going to say something a little controversial. Star Fox Zero is the second best Star Fox ever made. I really had low expectations going into this one, even though I've always loved SF. All of the preview coverage made me apprehensive about the game and then some scathing reviews further lowered my expectations. Maybe, just maybe, in that mind set I was fully capable of loving this game. The controls made sense to me very quickly and I was able to blast through most of the medals in the game with no problem. Destined to go down as one of my underrated loves.
Bastion was a game I knew nothing about, but had always heard universal praise for the game. I picked it up in a flash sale for $3 and really ended up enjoying it, even thought about trying to Platinum it.
Firewatch is a very difficult game to judge. The story at times was riveting, but the ending left me with a lukewarm feel. Overall I'd say it's a great experience, just sit down and beat it in one sitting and then think about the story the rest of the night.
Super C was fairly unimpressive compared to the other Contra games.
6180 was a nice little game. Very cheap and utilizes the gamepad in a unique way.
Unravel was my disappointment for the month. Really loved the look and style of this game, but the storytelling and game mechanics did nothing for me. I've played a ton of better puzzle platformers, but it's short enough that it doesn't completely overstay it's welcome.

A little late to this, but I actually cleared some fairly hefty games in March:

    3/3- Fire Emblem: Fates - Birthright (3DS) 49h 12m
3/15- The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD (WiiU) 31h 35m
    3/25- Fire Emblem: Fates - Conquest (3DS) 45h 51m
    3/29- Strider (PS4) 7h 17m

Had a really good time with all of these, but have to go with Zelda as my favorite of the month. Twilight Princess was one of my favorite games of all time when it came out and it is still a blast to play through today. The HD polish is nice and hero mode was sorely needed as ease of challenge was my primary gripe with the game in 2006.
Conquest was vastly better then Birthright in my opinion. Although I spent more time on Birthright, it felt like a drag at times because I would be grinding out relationship levels and general levels. Although grinding is obviously optional, I have a weakness to clearing menus of all of the optional side quests. Now Conquest, it never felt like I was wasting time. The levels and story are much more interesting in this version and the lack of grinding makes this chapter much more difficult and strategic.
Strider was fun too, just short and sweet.

Pretty solid month for me, no bad games:

2/6- The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes (3DS)
    2/11- Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS4)
2/16- Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (PS3)
2/17- Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (PS4)

Brothers was my favorite experience from start to finish, although it was in one session. I've also been working on Fire Emblem Fates - Birthright and that has monopolized most of my time this month. Tri Force Heroes would be the bottom for me this month, but I enjoyed it quite a bit after having low expectations going in.

5/5- Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (WiiU)
    5/9- Star Fox: Assault (GCN)
    5/14- Aliens: Infestation (DS)
    5/16- Demon's Souls (PS3)
5/18- Castlevania: Lament of Innocence (PS2)
    5/26- Vanquish (PS3)

Best: Absolutely no-doubter this month. Demon's Souls. What a fine game and my introduction to the Souls universe. I'm gonna say that these games always worried me because of their reputation for brutality, but I find the game to be very fair and perfect difficulty. This game also made me flip flop on my next system I think. Going with PS4 instead of XONE because of how badly I want to play Bloodborne now and honestly not much separates the two systems in my eyes.

Worst: Also easy, Aliens: Infestation. I love the Aliens films and had heard many saying this was a really good game in that universe. It was ok, but very lifeless and I didn't feel it was a memorable or worthwhile experience. Side note. I enjoyed Star Fox: Assault way more then I thought I would, although it is not the Star Fox game I want ever again.

About to start Heavy Rain and an old RPG, not sure which yet. Either Breath of Fire II, Final Fantasy V, Golden Sun, or Secret of Mana. If anyone has played any of those and has a strong recommendation, I'd like to hear the case for said game.

    I had a huge month:

    4/3- Donkey Kong 64 (N64)
    4/7- Elliot Quest (WiiU)
    4/8- Halo 2: Anniversary (XONE)
    4/8- Halo 3 (XONE)
4/15- Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary (XONE)
4/17- Megaman X: Command Mission (GCN)
    4/24- Halo 4 (XONE)
    4/25- Code Name S.T.E.A.M. (3DS)
    4/27- Silent Hill 4: The Room (PS2)

Best: Halo 2: Anniversary. Cooping the game with my buddy was a blast, hadn't played Halo in years and forgot how much I enjoyed it. After playing 2, we decided to play all the Master Chief Collection and shockingly I've decided to buy an XONE. I've never been an Xbox guy, but man do I like some Halo. Also have to give some love to Elliot Quest. It's a very fun and difficult old school game that can be downloaded on WiiU and Steam.

Worst: Megaman X: Command Mission would be the worst I guess. I didn't really play any terrible games this month, but MMX:CM did have me feeling super grindy at times. Battle repetition and insane enemy encounter rates destroy the pace of the game and make it hard to gather the enthusiasm to keep going, but there are some cool things that I wish would have been expanded on in a sequel.

A few excellent games this month and one dud:

    3/5- Pikmin 3 (WiiU)
    3/7- Tengami (WiiU)
    3/8- Master Reboot (WiiU)
3/15- Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition (WiiU)
    3/29- Terranigma (SNES)

Low: easy that's Master Reboot. It had some cool aspects to it, but the developers vision was too grand for their skill level I believe. Major props for the aesthetic, story, and atmosphere though.

High: This is very difficult because of the quality of Pikmin 3, Guacamelee!, and Terranigma. I think I have to go with Terranigma though. The story, gameplay, graphics, and especially music are just top notch...the only disappointment is that I wasn't playing this game 20 years ago because it didn't come out in the US. Big thanks to the dude that made me an NTSC cart of it. Pikmin 3 was also an outstanding game and almost surpasses the original for my favorite.
