Ok as we all know the Steam Summer Sale 2013 is going to be up soon so this will be the thread for it. Now for me this year I don't think I'll be purchasing any games at least I'll try not to. If I do then I'll share what I have purchased.

Nice! I've been waiting for the sale to start. GOG started their sale so I've already spent some there but I've got a few games that I've been eyeing on Steam so I'm hoping the prices are low enough for me to afford.

Last year's sale started around July 3...I'm thinking the same will happen this year.

Probably another week or 2....my primary goal this year is to stick to my wish list and not just buy things that look interesting because they are cheap.

There have been rumors that whatever they do this year will have some event tied in to do with the trading cards, especially since the trading card stuff is leaving its beta state on June 26th.
On the topic of trading cards, there could probably be a thread on here if anyone was interested in trading etc.

That wouldn't surprise me if it happens at the same time as the trading cards.
I have been having that steam summer sale is about to launch feeling.

I'll try to stick to games on my wishlist and potential interesting games below $10. I already have too many games to play =(

I have a pretty solid feeling this sale will be stating tomorrow with half-life being on sale this week. If only it would happen in August when I get 3 paychecks lol

Nice! I hope it starts soon. I'm right there with everyone else, I only want to get a few games but their sales are so awesome I usually end up spending too much money and adding a lot to my backlog haha.

I'm looking to get Civilization V during the sale, hopefully it goes on sale. Civilization has gone on sale like eight times in the past three months.

There's rumors that it may start tomorrow. Not 100% but it's a good chance it's true. If not, well, gotta keep on waiting.

This would be a perfect time for me too. I just finished a big piece of work and have some time to sit around and monitor flash sales for the next week. 26 games on my wishlist over there, hope to knock at least half off.

It started.

If you don't have Hotline Miami yet, now is the time.

I won't lie, I was expecting something a bit more grandiose with the trading cards. Otherwise the sale seems decent enough.

Ok so for now I just grabbed Borderlands 2 since I didn't have it yet with some DLC.

Well everybody, I'm $70 poorer and 20 games richer.
Good news is, this is probably the only "bulk buy" I'm going to do during the sale, and most of it was just indies that I've missed over the years that I've been meaning to get my hands on--which means this may actually save me money in future sales. Now I'm just going to stick to my wishlist (and anything REALLY incredible that pops up along the way).
Although I am pretty peeved at one thing... I had Recettear in my cart, went out for lunch, and when I came back the price had doubled! It's still not bad, but it was much more attractive at $5...

The first rule of Steam sales is to never buy anything that isn't featured on the front page until the last day in case it pops up in a daily deal/flash sale/other arbitrary temporary discount. I will be very surprised if Recettear is not $5 again before then, for example, because it has a strange habit of being one of the featured games fairly often.

I picked up dragon age ultimate on its flash sale (just to get the DLC, since I didn't have all of the DLC) and dungeons of dreadmoore (I know its not on a flash sale, but it won't drop any lower than the 1.24 I paid. The rest of my wish list is just on the standard sale, so waiting for the daily/flash on those.
I am somewhat dissapointed so far as in years past there were 8 flash sale titles instead of 4 and they had all kinds of great packs to sell too but don't have that this year.
I did buy the newest humble bundle though

The complete lack of an indie spotlight sub-page is also sort of disappointing. On one hand it's good that fully half of the featured deals on the first day were prominent indie titles, right there with the AAA ones, but on the other hand it removes a bit of support for some of the less well-known ones. It's a lot harder to browse through a couple thousand games and stumble across something rather than click on the link on the front page to the sort of "mini-sale" they used to have within the main one, see something you remember hearing someone talk about before, and impulse buy it because it's $3.
In other news, the trading card thing is the single lamest sale event/promotion/gimmick they've ever done, and I've participated in all of them for some inexplicable reason. It makes the holiday one with coal look fun by comparison, and that one was so aggravating that it pretty much turned me off trading entirely ever since, despite how profitable it was for me. This is fairly blatantly just "spend money to get cards to maybe get a shiny badge for your profile". I'm not sure what's fun or rewarding about that. Or what it has to do with games, for that matter, other than pay-to-win free-to-play ones, only minus the game part. Heh.

ya, the trading card thing in general is pretty lame, I am not by any means trying to get them, but if I get them, I get them.

Day 1 loot: 2 Defense Grid DLCs, Hotline Miami, Antichamber, Pixeljunk Eden
Also, for people interested in the trading cards, you don't have to actually play the games to get them. As long as you're in the game according to Steam (i.e., in the menus), you will accumulate cards for that game. I was annoyed that I would have to replay games I've already played if I wanted cards, but that isn't the case! So just open the game, leave it running a while, and voila.

Most of the games I got yesterday were around $1-4. Only ones that weren't were part of the flash deals and daily deal. If any more savings are applied to the $1-4 games, it'll probably just be taking off cents. I appreciate the concern, but I know what I'm doing :)

11 Yrs♥✓#
I wasn't aware that you could sit in the menus for the cards, not sure it is still worth the effort unless the cards to start to earn me actual items of some sort on steam.

11 Yrs♥$✓#
Yeah, as long as Steam considers you to be in-game (for some games, the game itself doesn't even have to be running, just the launcher), that's good enough. If your name shows up in green in the client/friends list, your (non-) play time is counting towards getting cards. You still won't get anything useful out of them just by doing that though. You need to complete a full set to get a badge, which gives you the chance to get useless emoticons or a maybe useful coupon or something, and to do that you need to trade for the ones you don't have (or buy them). Possibly more usefully, you can sell them in the marketplace if you don't care about that stuff at all. Whenever you're at your computer doing stuff other than gaming, leave a game running in the background that you haven't used up all your drops for yet, acquire cards, and then sell them for a few bucks (total, not each). Then get bored of the tedium of installing lots of games and idling in them one after another and give up on it eventually like I did. Heh.
