Hello! I am TaiyoHikari and since I like video games, but haven't been tracking games for a LONG time so of course, my list is terribly incomplete haha. Either way I suppose I will add games as I keep playing. Some of them might be replays but I probably won't register them as replays. Either way, I saw a lot of blogs and I enjoyed reading them so I decided to make one of my own :)
So here's the list of my games and this post will be edited and stuff. I emulate every console game btw because it's very hard to find cartridges here. Not to mention the price of the older consoles lol. I'm not sure if I want to track all of them as emulated or not. Probably not tbh because I might not remember the platform of the games. I know I can look it up but I am kinda lazy haha. Oh, right. The list.
Currently Playing

Completed
1. (Don't) Open Your Eyes (2019, Horror, 0.5h, 9)
2. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (2010, Puzzle, 8h, 10)
So, yeah. There are some franchises I want to start for the first time so here they are too!
Final Fantasy:
Dragon Quest:
Silent Hill:
A whole bunch more I want to get into/start that I can't remember currently. These games will probably suffice for a LONG time however. Off the top of my head, there's Shin Megami Tensei, Persona, God of War, Devil May Cry, Trails, Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, etc. So yeah a lot of games haha.
As of the games I'm currently playing (technically singular game), I am not sure if I will start something alongside it. I'm also not sure of when to update this blog. Maybe something like weekly and whenever I beat and/or start games, I guess? I'll figure something out hopefully.
So yeah that's it for this first post, I guess!
PS. It may be surprising considering my profile picture is Makoto Yuki from Persona 3 but I haven't actually completed the game yet. I've played for around 8-9 hours a few years back and watched the first 2 movies. Maybe I will get to complete it someday on this blog.

Welcome! And hell yeah Ghost Trick. One of my favorite games. You're in for quite a continued ride :D.
There are some real monster length games in some of those lists, especially the later mainline Dragon Quests. Also some fantastic games in there. I wish you luck!

Thank you! It's very good so far and I am quite excited to play the remaining chapters.
Also yeah haha VERY long games there. I just hope I won't quit them halfway through. In my experiences I am VERY bad at playing JRPGs unless it's Pokemon. I tend to just stop playing and then just... don't start playing again. Apparently, I am not alone in that. Quite a troublesome issue. Hopefully having this blog will help with that.

Alright first actual post! I didn't think I would be making a post today but I ended up starting Silent Hill for the Playstation 1. It is actually my first proper horror game, I think. Got to play around an hour and I like it so far.
Positives:
+ The atmosphere is VERY well done.
+ The ringing that plays when you get near an enemy makes it even more intense
+ That scene at the cafe when you try to leave
Negatives:
- The movement is kinda clunky but I am getting used to it slowly
Yeah, only 1 negative point lol. This game is very well done. Especially the atmosphere. Arguably one of the most important factors, if not the most important, in a horror game. I am currently very beaten up and at the cafe. About to head into the School which is where I think majority of the exploration will take place? Because I cannot get any doors open in the town other than the cafe.
PS. This is a completely blind playthrough too. By completely blind, I mean I've never played a Silent Hill game before, didn't read any reviews nor did I watch a video on Youtube. So yeah wish me luck.
TL;DR: I like this game. Also blind playthrough.

I can’t decide if “the door is jammed” should be a meme for this game or a running gag. 🤔 But glad you’re enjoying the game!

Wait, do they tell us "the door is jammed" or something? Because I've not been getting this lol. Or maybe the doors I've tried are parts of the background. I don't know tbh lol.
On other news, I started and completed a very short itch.io game, "(Don't) Open Your Eyes"! It's a very short (about 30 minutes) game which is free so I got that and I found it pretty cool. It's about helping this creature with how it looks. If you've got 30 minutes or so, I highly recommend you play through this. I give it a 9/10. It's also fully voiced so that's a plus point. Not really any negatives since it's so short. Maybe the fact that there is only one ending where you die at the end.

Oooh Silent Hill, I just played it for the first time a few months ago and I absolutely loved it. GL with the game and I'm interested in seeing where this blog goes.

Enjoy Silent Hill! I actually just finished this for the first time a few days ago. I'm very bad with horror and it took me a long time to get through it, because I ended up quitting the game a few times because it honestly made me feel stressed. But I'm glad I made through it, I can definitely see why it's considered a cult classic.
Also, I'm very happy to see you intend to play Dragon Quest, as it's my all-time favorite RPG series. It's gonna be a long project to get through them, but most of the games are very good. Personal favorite of the series to me is DQ5, that's what made me truly fall in love with the series.

When my sister played this she did run into that a lot. By the time she was through her map had many crossed out doors. She’s not sure if it’s different for you since you’re emulating it, but one of the things she will always remember is how the lock was jammed. 😂 You’re just starting so it’s possible that you just haven’t encountered this yet.
Personally I haven’t played this yet, but what I remember is the scream you hear if you lose at one of the boss battles. I don’t want to hear that again and I hope I’m not going to. 😶

Thank you! I am not quite sure what I will do with the blog just yet. Probably post weekly updates like a lot of others. For now I am just going to try and "borrow" some ideas from other blogs and see where it goes from there :)

I'm not quite sure how good I am with horror games myself yet haha. The game is pretty creepy but it will probably get creepier. Yeah, Dragon Quest is a series I want to get into someday along with Final Fantasy! I have heard good things about DQ5 too so maybe I will start from there? I'm not very sure if I should start from the first one or play the fifth one first. As far as I know, the stories aren't really connected so it probably doesn't matter anyway. But I am definitely not playing any right now lol.

Ah okay. I have getting those crosses whenever I encounter a dead end haha. I think I have 4 crosses in my map already. Also the scream if you lose at the boss battles is creeping me out a bit. Haven't heard it yet but I will try my best to not lose any of them haha.

Weekly Update 12th September, 2022 - 18th September, 2022
I know this blog isn't a week old yet but might as well do a weekly update for this week.
Games Started:
1. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (DS)
2. Silent Hill (PS1)
3. (Don't) Open Your Eyes (PC)
Games Unfinished:
None that isn't already mentioned in started. This will usually contain games overflowing from past week. Not games that I started in a week.
Games Completed:
1. (Don't) Open Your Eyes (PC)
Progress Value:
Games Completed - (Games Started + Games Unfinished) = Progress Value
The more it is, the more progress made on my backlog. For this week, it is...
Games Completed - (Games Started + Games Unfinished) = 1 - (3 + 0) = -2
Status Updates:
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
This game is very interesting! I played it a lot today and, as of writing this, I am on Chapter 17, the penultimate chapter. So, basically, I will be done with this game by tomorrow. Definitely a solid 10/10 for me! I rate based on enjoyment if you couldn't already tell.
Silent Hill
I've found 2 of the 3 "Keys for Eclipse". So far, the game has been pretty scary but we will see if it can become scarier. I quite enjoy horror movies even though I get a bit scared of them. But what is life without a few thrills, am I right?
That's about it for this weekly update! Gonna have a post tomorrow for when I complete Ghost Trick, and I'm thinking of either starting Metal Slug Anthology next or Persona 3 Portable. Probably MSA but we will see. I don't think it's that long actually.

It's up to you where you start of course, but keep in mind that Dragon Quest 1 is where it all started (obviously) and it's very constricted compared to the later games. The basic building blocks are in place, but every other game expanded the formula and world so much, that DQ1 ends up being very different and quite difficult too. The remakes try to alleviate this with various means, but they can't hide or fix the fact that every battle in DQ1 is 1v1, which makes battles a damage race more than anything else. By the way, this is not to say I don't like DQ1, because I really do. Just a friendly bit of advice, I suppose.
Even Dragon Quest 2 expanded and improved everything so much that I'd say that's where the "true" Dragon Quest games begun. But that's also a very tough as nails game and I wouldn't recommend playing it in its original form.
I'd say the best games to hop into the world of DQ would be either DQ4, DQ5 (my favorite, as I mentioned) or DQ8. DQ8 was actually the very first Dragon Quest I ever played, but I admit that back then I didn't like it (I do now). But even still, I think that it's a good place to start. Second Dragon Quest for me was DQ6, which I also didn't like and it's still one of the only games in the series I don't like and can't recommend. But as they say, third time's the charm and that third time was DQ5, which was simply amazing. My favorite version is the Super Famicom one, although the PS2 remake is great too. Haven't played it on DS or on mobile.

Weeeellll I was probably only 8 or 9 at the time when I heard it so memory is possibly amping up my spook factor. Let’s just say if you keep adequate distance and get past the school you’ll be fine. I’m rooting for you!

The first boss battle death scene is when you hear one out of two screams from Harry. This was my first horror game years ago and I’ll never forget that scream. Now when I fight this same boss battle I’m like guess what b**** you’re going down. This is my favorite horror series, but the latest wasn’t as scary as the first. Good plot though. Also if you haven’t encounter the fridge puzzle yet make sure you have the ring, unless you’re curious to see what happens. Make sure you save before you do. I had the ring at that point, but I was too curious for my own good. Scream number 2.

Okay so change of plans! I am just going to make one weekly update post only instead of making separate posts so look forward to those! I did complete Ghost Trick today like I planned and that review will be out on Sunday with the weekly update. Btw, thank you for all the replies to this thread! Even if I don't reply to them I do read them and I will keep everything in mind :)
