This is a hard one to score. Is the story interesting? Yes. Does it feature a character that's very poorly implemented? Yes. Does it run like hot trash even after patches? Oh , oh irremediably so.The 8/10 is because despite it's many many issues I did enjoy my time with Deadly Premonition 2, but playing it with friends DEFINITELY helped.Updated 2.5 Months Ago

The game started slow with a interview section en didn't pick up the phase for me after that. yes, York is still funny and charming and yes, the conversations with Zach are still funny. But it misses the overal charm and quirky characters of the first game. I could see though the frame rate (Switch version) and the bugs but the quests were to boring and the characters to bland. I loved Deadly Premonition 1, but saddly I'm retiring this one. Unfortunately I cannot give this one any higher than a 5/10 either. Watched the cutscenes on youtube to close the story for myself.Updated 8 Months Ago

DP2 delivers as a worthy follow-up to the original. Combat and map travel is vastly improved and more often then not, the game drops any sense of "so bad its good factor" and simply starts being good. It can get tedious at points and the side quests are not very inviting, but it makes up for its faults with an entertaining story, unique dialogue, and boatloads of charm. The original is still the more fascinating beast of the two overall with a superior mystery and characters, but DP2's improved gameplay and slightly more polished presentation make it a very close call.Updated 3.5 Years Ago

7.5 rounded.Bottom line is...Deadly Premonition 2 is worth supporting, regardless of it not reaching the same heights as the first game.
If you're interested in quirky games: Buy it. If you're interested in bigger publishers funding experiments: Buy it. If you enjoyed the first: Buy it. If you like old-school game design: Buy it. Same goes for if you just generally enjoy David Lynch. If you have the money to spare....buy it. :)
I'm one of the many who counts the first among their favorite games, even if it was hampered by too many problems to count. Most everything just doesn't click the way it did in the first game. Whereas our first trip felt like an ode to Twin Peaks for ever dang-blasted minute, this feels like it's just riffing off the prior game...which isn't really bad, it's just missing some of the magic.
The story is good, but feels unfinished -- as you progress through the chapters, the detail in the dialogue and the amount of background content tapers off. The first chapter in Le Carre feels right at home with the promise of lots of quirky characters full of personality, lots of side content around town, but the second you start chapter 2 (of 4), something goes wrong.
"Come back on Monday." When you play this, you'll understand why this mission is notorious. Genuinely shocking how blatantly terrible a design choice that was for the start of chapter 2. Christ.
The pacing is all over the place in the gameplay and the story, really. The game bounces between 2019 and 2005 -- the 2019 scenes are excruciating, just clicking through dialogue that's kind of interesting but also just doesn't sit right. Francis Zach Morgan in present day is just not a fun guy to spend time with like Francis York Morgan is in 2005, and the dialogue between him and the other FBI agents is excruciatingly slow and meandering with small moments of magic.
There are 2 or 3 interesting side missions (of...40+?), but none of them go as far as any of the side missions did in the first game. They're all fetch quests, but it's only the tiny handful that adds to the world and your relationship to the characters. To be fair, most of the actual missions stank in the first game, too, but the character interactions and the gameplay rewards were worth pursuing. Not really the case here.
Nothing's balanced. You can get some killer upgrades, or you can easily stock up on really pointless upgrades. Either way, you don't actually need any since the game is easy as pie. You game overwhelms you with everything you need.
All in all, a good experience -- just not quite the same as the first. 100% worth supporting SWERY, though. We need to make more of these games happen, hopefully with an ideal budget and development cycle. This game's was clearly troubled.

Amazing game by Swery and his team again, I understand the criticism people have put against this game and in the regards of comparing it to the first game it has some moments that are weaker. However though the writing and characters and such in my opinion still nails the mark and it has been an amazing journey through Le Carré. Breaking it down a bit further the game play is nothing to write home about but I think anyone playing this game is more into this game for the story and characters as well as the atmosphere and.... well wackiness that can be a signature of Sweary at this point! If your okay with Technical issues such as framerate issues or an occasional bug here or there, I highly recommend trying this out "Yeah...?".Updated 4 Years Ago

Pretty disappointed with the game and I really didn't have any expectations going in. It some how had none of the charm, quirkiness and pizzazz that the first game did. First game is like half a really good story with some amazing twists, then half of a crazy town with characters that made me laugh and fall in love with Greenvale. This failed on both parts, story was meh and the twists were pretty predictable sadly and then had none of the charm that made the first game enduring. Gameplay sucked to, some how worse than 1 which is crazy. Glad I supported Swery by buying his game.Updated 4 Years Ago
