Great, atmospheric game although it had some bugs that influenced my experience, mainly around enemy positions when loading a save, and disappearing items such as key cards which forced me to reload older saves.

I do not usually play games where there's a lot of freedom in how to approach the gameplay and specific scenarios in the game, whether to fight, sneak, incapacitate, spare, or murder. Nor do I like stealth in games, I despise stealth as a gameplay aspect. Yet, Prey is so well designed and made that even I, someone who doesn't like those things, was able to enjoy the game thoroughly. An ultimate test of a game is where it's put in the hands of someone who doesn't usually like the kind of game it is and they end up enjoying it. Now imagine how people who like those genres will feel when playing Prey.

Old as time tale, humans reached new heights, just for it to backfire.

"Don't think about how bad it is, think about how to make it better" That is pretty much the game's premise. "I pride myself in being prepared for the worst. But this... this is truly a masterpiece". Hell, in space, has broken loose and it's "Are you trying to fix this mess? or just want to get away?" type of situation you wake up to.

I don't think I have ever played a game that gives you this much freedom in how to play, how to get to places, and how to go about doing anything, it's very creative. They have really achieved the 'play it your way', many games claim it, yet so few deliver on it.

It's a wonderfully fun game, with choice and consequence, an engaging story, loss of gravity, a wrench, and a Gloo gun.

Prey is a brilliant example of a typical Prey immersive simulator, with brilliant decision making hidden in both form and consequence. And the plot is a brilliant sci-fi story with very good plot twists.

Despite this, I didn't like the stealth at all and the combat is awkward, so the game stands out for the story and its decision making, not its combat. But for that there is the easy mode, or directly the story mode, and with that the title is enjoyed in what really makes it great.

This was actually such a good game the only downside it had was that the ending felt very...dull? I mean that in the sense that it just happened and then you had beaten the game. I had the ending where i decided to blow up the Talos I and then used Alexs pod to escape but i still feel like i didn't really FINISH the game. That big typhon that ate up the Talos I was insane and actually a good premise to showcase how severe the situation was going to be but thats where it ends I still see myself replaying this game one day and maybe even completing it as i still have ALOT that i can do in this game.

I do think Prey's biggest flaw is its lack of identity. It crosses everything in a checklist for a immersive sim. When I think of a prototypical game in this genre, I think of Prey. It very rarely brings something new to the table. And yet the game is a wonder in terms of mechanics and exploration. Probably the most impressive immersive sim in that regard. Things might have been done before, but it does them bigger and at times better. Some things I didn't like: the ending was a bummer. Not in the depressing type of way but more that it was lame as hell. One other thing is the insistence on never-ending notes, emails, and audio logs to tell the story. It was compelling in some cases, but most of the time I thought of it as a hassle.

Amazing game, very fun and lots of ways to reach your goals. Just a classic arcane game and way better than Deathloop (hated it). Went for 3 playthroughs b2b, which I never do, to see all aspects of the game and try out only human/only alien run. Got bored during the 3rd run but still, that’s amazing retention for me. Since I got it on PS Plus extra and played around 80 hours it was insane value (in case anyone cares).

A very good immersive survival horror game, definitely an Arkane/Bethesda game with the way it plays. What seems like a very limited and restricted environment is actually very open ended on how you can approach getting to certain areas and how you approach fights. The story telling of the crew mates reminded me of Bioshock with the audio logs, which I like a lot because I can continue my playthrough and listen to it in the background instead of having to stop and read constantly. I would say the game is pretty well balanced with hard choices on abilities almost the entire time, along with a restricted inventory, and almost always running low on some kind of resource. It keeps you on edge because an enemy of all certain types can be around any corner, and you are definitely not that powerful, so approaching/avoiding fights in particular ways is very important.

The overall story was very good, making you make some decisions throughout that lead to different outcomes on the ending. Game could get a little janky at times, which is expected, but I definitely lost count on how many times I died a very cheap death or just didn't pay attention to a trap on a door and got insta killed. I would say it leans towards an 8.5 on the rating scale, I enjoyed Prey a lot, and will probably play another playthrough for a different ending eventually.

Everybody says this game is an underrated gem, but I think the exact opposite. It's an overrated game with nothing of real meaningful value to offer. I thought it was just okay, but not bad. Did I enjoy it? Not really, but I didn't hate it either. It really is rather frustrating to play at times, though, and the plot just gets derailed entirely by its ending, ruining all of the minimal amount of intrigue the game had.

What I liked:
Difficulty. I thought this game was pretty hard on Normal. I was walking into the game with no idea what it was about, and I quickly realized that I couldn't just walk up to phantoms and gun them down before I would get annihilated. You need to scrounge for everything you can in this game (level design feels similar to Bioshock 1 and 2), which makes looting feel important and not redundant like other games. Ammo is scarce. Beating this game felt very rewarding.

Being alone. The anticipation you would feel before entering new areas with no backup and tons of enemies that will kick your *** is very real in this game. Like Metroid and Dark Souls, this game keeps you very engaged and you do get very immersed into the world as it is challenging and you need to pay attention.

That ending. Helped solidify the fact that I thought this game was awesome.

What I Didn't Like:

The Nightmare. That thing was terrifying. I almost killed it once, but got scared that I would run out of ammo in all my guns so I quit shooting it. What a waste.

A good survival horror game with elevated difficulty that brings freedom to the player in terms of exploration. Besides that, the DLC was somewhat decent, even if it was very hard to complete and required many key items to complete some orders. The game is an 8.5/10.

I remember playing prey back when it came out. I was only 12 at the time, so I couldnt afford to purchase the game myself, so I either rented the game from family video, or bought the game with my moms credit card (probably the first one, im not a bad person I swear.) The game was released in a sorta glitchy state, and thus there was a material duplication glitch, which pretty much allowed me to craft whatever I wanted in the game. I had a blast with this cool space shooter, where you could use cool alien powers and fight cool aliens in space. But now, 6 years later, ive played many more games in my day, most importantly system shock 2 and dishonored. What I didn't realise back then, but I have now, is that prey is a mash up of those two games, modernizing the system shock 2 formula, while also adding on arkanes own unique style. Prey is a fantastic amalgamation of these two games, and id argue that it earns the title of, system shock 3.

Prey has an almost perfect gameplay loop, with it pretty much perfectly adapting the system shock 2 formula while adding onto it with dishonored stealth elements and level design, as well as modern game feel and controls. The upgrade system is almost identical to how it was in system shock, where really the only difference is that in prey they are called neuromods instead of cyber modules. At first I didnt like the upgrade economy compared to ss2, because nueromods are found usually instead of given to you, unlike ss2 which were mainly just directly given to you, however as I kept playing I realized it was not only slow a characters progression, but also give you some incentive to explore the environments, which in typical arcane fashion are fantastically designed. Prey uses the same design principals as dishonored, with the game giving many different paths to take to get to a goal, as well as giving you environmental objects to climb on top of such as pipes to help you manage and engage in stealth.

One of the best elements of prey is one of its weapons, being the gloo cannon. Not only does it act as one of the most useful weapons in the game, especially for engaging in stealth or especially melee combat, but it also can be used to engage with the level design and act as a traversal mechanic. Using this weapon, you can bypass whole entire sections of the game, or even access rooms early. Preys entire weapon arsenal is like the gloo cannon, with every weapon having its uses. Prey is one of those unique games where I ended up using every single weapon during my playthrough, multiple times. The shotgun and Q beam are high damage weapons, which work fantastically together against boss creatures. The pistol and stun gun work great for stealth encounters. The littenary of grenedes all work against different creatures, but can all be used in either a stealth scenario where you place them as traps, or active combat where they work as grenades. And even the starting weapon, the wrench, is fantastic. I actually used the wrench the most out of anything in my playthrough because it saves ammo and can really pack a punch. Preys combat is almost like a puzzle, where each weapon has to be used in the right way if you want to save your very limited ammo and supplies. This goes double for another of my favorite weapons in the game, the huntress boltcaster, which is esentially just a nerf gun that you can use to hit buttons or computer screens to open doors. Using this weapon in addition to the gloo gun, can honestly let you open any door you want if you have enough patience. Preys modular gameplay systems let every player have a completely different experience while playing, just like any great immersive sim.

Prey is no slouch in the story department either. While the game unfortunately doesnt feature a villian as strong as shodan from the system shock games, the story is still filled with great moments, characters and even the signature plot twist found in almost every shock game. The story features a litany of different modular variations and dialogue based on the choices you make, both in the story and mechanically. The game also features a hidden morality system, which comes into play based on what ending you get. My favorite part however, was just how realistic the characters on talos 1 were, both those alive, and those found in the many hidden audio logs, which were always a joy to find.

Even preys dlc is fantastic, with it being almost as long as the main story itself. Im not usually a fan of rougelike games, however this one hooked me. I have never seen a sense of progression like the one found in mooncrash in any game. The way the story is slowly unveiled as you complete the simulation more and more. Even the way how it ties into the main story and explains the ending of that game. Its all fantastic and with the randomly generated world events, it has very high replayability.

I very highly recommend prey. It is one of the best games ive ever played. I loved it

I feel quite conflicted about Prey. Despite the obvious inspiration it takes from some other games I found it to be a uniquely fresh and interesting experience. Exploring the station and finding out what happened aboard it, mainly through environmental story-telling and audio-logs/e-mails gave me a hint of Bioshock and hit me right in the nostalgic feels. Arkane has brought the same intricate level design from Dishonored, making each room almost a puzzle in its own right to work out where to go. Do I hack through a door, or move some objects to climb upon, or find a nearby window and smash through that or even take the wonderful GLOO gun and use it form a platform up to an out of reach vent. The amount of choice given to the player in how to spec out their character and how to explore this environment is staggering. Nothing comes quite as close to the best levels of Dishonored 2 but Prey makes up for this in the sheer quantity of stellar environments it has. This may sound like a glowing review so far, but I feel that Prey (although great) could have been better. The combat feels sluggish and a bit undercooked, which is strange given how fun and visceral the combat is in Arkane's other offerings. But in Prey it feels nearly impossible to miss certain enemy attacks and enemies barely respond to your own attacks apart from a slight decrease in their health bar. I understand this might be to instil more of a 'survival horror' atmosphere but that doesn't necessarily mean the gameplay has suffer. Examples like Bioshock or the newer Resident Evil remakes show that such a feeling can be achieved through sound and atmosphere rather than poor controls. The narrative is also a bit unsatisfying by the end. While your playing through Prey there is such a great amount of player choice in who to help and how to navigate the station that it feels like an anti-climax when the story pretty much forces you into a limited number of set paths by the end, regardless of the huge variables in choices you made up to that point. Although there is a 'cool' twist by the end, it does eave a bit of a sour taste in your mouth given the decisions made up to that point. Overall I had a very positive experience with Prey's main story, exploration and work, but there are a few slip ups which prevent it from being Arkane's best. But as a love letter to games like Bioshock or System Shock it certainly delivers.

I really enjoyed Prey, it’s a horror FPS with mild RPG elements like crafting and a sort of simple level up system via the Neuromods you pick up through the game. It has an interesting story and fun gameplay with a quite unsettling atmosphere.

I went for as many human and Typhon neuromods as possible so my Morgan ended up quite overpowered but it was good fun and I completely didn’t see the twist at the end coming!

The game didn’t grip me enough to be a 10 but it was a solid 9 and I would still highly recommend it! Also it was a non-buggy Bethesda game which is very rare!

Very interesting concept. The initial shock of breaking the glass in the first level was mind-bending! I also love the spacesuit and flying around in Zero-G! They really nailed the atmosphere and the feel of it. Though it's technically not horror, this games keeps you on your toes most of the time. You start out just barely getting by, sneaking around and using the environment to help you and then half way though the game, you're a boss running around, parkouring and killing baddies like it's nothin'. It's 2 games in one LOL

PROS:
- You feel a sense of progress as you level up and change as you level up and see your play style change too
-

CONS:
- Bad volume control (the Recycler noise is always too loud!)

Absolutely blown away. An immersive sim this good being made in 2017 seems like a pipedream. Great amount of content that you can choose to interact with or not. Some of the story doesn't make the most sense but it's never jarring. Practically unnoticeable unless you decide to think about a few things for too long. Great systems, great ways to solve problems.
