Final Fantasy 15 is an okay game. The world is pretty, but empty. The combat has a lot of weapon variety, but is so simple that it can literally be played by holding one button. The story is really good, but that story is told in the worst way possible with skipped events, missing backstories, and unexplained plotlines. The best part of the game is the 4 main boys, who all talk and act like real friends. They’re each so lovable and you want to see them together. The other characters are mostly heavily underutilized, and theres only 1 real villain in the game, so the game can sometimes feel conflictless other than vague military threat. I also loved the city designs. They all look so pretty! I thought the story was told well for a while, before it starts to dip about 60% of the way in, and then just gives up on explaining anything at the start of the final act. FF15 has some good ideas, pretty graphics, and a good story, but almost every good aspect of the game felt undercooked to me.Updated 2.5 Weeks Ago

This game is beautiful and the combat can be quite fun at times. However, the story feels extremely rushed and a lot of it happens off screen. It genuinely feels like half of the story was left out as it's so hard to enjoy what little story there is. This game had so much potential to be great, but it's quite obvious this is only half of a game. In my playthrough I did most of the side quests as I wanted to try and learn more about the world and characters. For such a detailed world you barely get to explore it. Most of it is there just to look pretty. The same can be said for most of the characters. They each get a few minutes of screen time every few quests. Even Noctis feels very half baked. In the end I beat the game and felt extremely underwhelmed by the ending. It tries to make Noctis more interesting but since I was never invested in his story to begin with, it was kind of hard to care about anything that happened to him. After the awful ending from the base game, I decided to give the DLC a try. As they focus on each member of Noctis's team I thought they might have a bit more to offer in terms of backstory and character development, and as it turns out they did. At least a little bit. While they do add some much needed backstory and character development they also suffer from the same issues as the base game. They rushed in some places and dragged out in the rest. These Episodes where a slog to get through. So much infact that after beating the first 3 I couldn't stand playing this game any more. I then decided to leave Episode Ardyn and the Comrades DLC for a time I hope never comes.

i could stand anything in this game except this battle systemcrutial plot points are happening off-screen in the background while the game itself is literally boring monster hunter clone with a huuuuuuge and boring open world
yeah i know about this kingdom hearts style narrative with different pieces of story across different media coming together and it's terrible
also the weakest music in the series
thanks for wasting my time, Tetsuya Nomura
characters were good though and they deserved a better game

I've come to realize that Final Fantasy is one of those series that sentiments about an individual entry tend to wildly change over time.I've also come to find that this sentiment is not true for FFXV. After playing at release in 2016, dropping and picking it up 7 years later, my sentiments haven't changed.
Still 7 years later the game hasn't matured for me. As well the game's story... The story is all over the place. It's anywhere BUT the game. It's in the movie and anime, which by the way have limited availability and are doomed to be soon lost media. It hasn't and won't age gracefully. It will cease to exist, just like itself, only to reappear as DLC.
The Americana roadtrip, Stand By Me friends dressed in Shibuya hot topic street fashion is what this game does best. It is literally the epitome of the "friends we made along the way".
However, I cannot stand to sit through a misguided Journey told by glimpses of story and fetch quests. This world had so much potential and yet the side quests detract IMMENSELY from the experience.
I've tried 2 times, one in 2016 and another in 2023 and yet, I did not enjoy myself as so much I was coping with the squandered potential I saw from the game.

Combat is weak as it is only holding attack and a direction on the analog stick for the majority of it. Store is a mess. Party interations are great but become repetitive over 50+ hours. Side quests are mind-numbing and hyper simple (go to x location, pick up glowing bit on grond, fast travel back to quest giver), yet you just keep wanting to do them.Updated 3 Months Ago

Very decisive Final Fantasy game, but I found myself enjoying basically every part of my playthrough. Fun combat system that doesn’t feel tiresome or like a grind, the only issue I had was occasional camera issues. I enjoyed the main cast, even if they all look like angsty punk rockers, I thought they melded well as a group overall with some interesting and fun dialogue. Some dialogue maybe could have had more variety, especially when driving while not doing the main quest. The story was the main thing I can agree with on some major complaints, I think it has a great foundation and good ideas but the way it was told was disjointed and felt awkward at times. Can only be fully understood if you consume a handful of additional media which shouldn’t be a prerequisite for a video game. Near the early mid-game, characters are introduced that you’re supposed to care about but have maybe 3 lines of dialogue and seem to have had no real impact on the story, but near the end I think it’s better. Was frustrated one time with something I didn’t think made a lot of sense, near the mid-game a character wants you to drive them to the next destination in the story and the game prompts you with a warning that “you won’t be able to return for a long time” while you’re doing the quest. So you accept and you drive them and have to stop to fight some enemies, which doesn’t really take very long and once you’re done you’re free to go back to do whatever you like. The problem I had was: later in the game it gives you the same prompt when you have to meet with a certain character, so me thinking it would just be a cutscene or a discussion segment and then I could immediately go back to finish any hunts or side quests in the main area, I accepted. To my surprise, I was then locked into the late game. While it does later give you an option to return to the main area, it feels very wrong to do so given the sequence of events that transpire in the story at that point. Despite that, it wasn’t bad enough where I didn’t want to return after I finished the story, I went back to finish the quests and hunts I wanted to and also completed some DLCs and very much enjoyed it. I recommend this game to any JRPG fans and traditional Final Fantasy fans with an open mind.Updated 3.5 Months Ago

Great gameplay, and fantastic mechanics, however, fairly obtuse story due to poor execution of providing context and clear story beats; however, I feel that the story is a good one once understood fully after further reading. Would probably have been better received if the story was clearer and less disjointed. If you enjoy 'the chosen one' trope done well and the 'medieval kingdoms at war' setting, mixed with future magical weaponry and daemons, this is a truly fantastic game. Completely changed my opinion of the game after understanding the story. A solid 8/10.

It was alright. Followed it back in the day with all the supplemental material, but with time I think this is on par with FF 13. It felt like the game needed to come out so it can be get improvements for future versions. Didn't play the episodes when they came out, so I'll give the Royal Edition a chance sometime. I wanted to love this game cause I love Noctis, Ignis, Gladious, and Prompto. It's that one of the only good moments I can think of is the Brotherhood Anime where they're eating at the Diner and how they act like a family. Including Ignis and Gladious acting like an married couple while Noctis takes out all the veggies out of the burger. I hate how this game had a lot of potential given the development hell, but all I can think is "Why should I be playing this when I go play Kingdom Hearts"Updated 4.5 Months Ago

Primeiro Final Fantasy qual zerei, e zerei duas vezes.

Final Fantasy XV is a game that is very confused about what it wants to deliver. It has so many new ideas, systems, and story beats to present you. And while some of them land, it's sheer multitude can be overwhelming and bring someone to irritation at the more questionable design choices towards the end. This game can be fun, especially towards the beginning where it more closely sticks to it's theme of being on a road trip with your buddies. Anytime the game's not sticking to those moments, it's floundering around and throwing things at you which make zero sense. After about the halfway point, the game seriously begins to fall apart in tone and in balance.Updated 6.5 Months Ago

Really really disappointed, I love FF games but this one was just BAD. The gameplay isn't fun or challenging ; The quests/hunts bring nothing not even good objets ; The story is bad, didn't get attached to characters you're supposed to care about (like Luna's or Noct's death) ; The map is also boring, open world bring nothing but long trip in car (which was also boring) or chocobos. If I hadn't an OCD about completing games I would have stopped this game after 3-4hours in.The only part I liked about this game was the possibility to unlock the previous FF games' musics.

My first Final Fantasy and for that I am biased towards it. I love this game to pieces. Is the story unfinished and lacks direction? Yes. Does the combat lack depth and is fairly easy? Yes. Despite these things I love this game. Noctis, Gladio, Prompto and Ignis are the best part of the game and the ending is one of the most emotional I've seen in a game. The campfire scene, if you know you know. I can see what people dislike about this game but I don't care, its great to me.Updated 10.5 Months Ago

Does this FF has some flaws, yes, for sure. I still like it overall, some of the new ideas worked and some didn't. The story wasn't as jumbled as everyone said it was, minus a few things in the beginning. I loved the ending chapters and I think this has one of the best FF villains to date. The ending few boss battles are fantastic, things become dire, and I love when FF games get into darker themes. This is a great story and a good game, not fantastic, but good. This game is one of the games of all time. The plot was just a mess. The anime needing to be watched in order to understand the context and backstory of the main cast was a pretty ??? decision. Feel like there was a lot of melodramatic moments for zero reason, Luna dying, for example and one moment, the story would be doing one thing, the next, another. It just felt very unnatural and incohesive, I felt whiplash several times playing the game. I will say that the 4 main boys were pretty lovable, I liked all of them. Everyone else, not so much.
Ardyn isn't that bad of a villain. Honestly, his lore was very interesting and kinda sad how he became the man he was.
Combat seems very complex at first, but then you'll realize you can just hold down a button and you'll basically win every fight lmfao. That being said, if you try to play the game the way the devs intended to, it is genuinely fun and you can pull of some crazy combos with your party.
FF tried their hand at an open world, and I guess they did pretty well. The world was very pretty, I will admit. Tying your characters bonus stats to exploration was a great move, it really does force you to roam around a lot. But the sidequests were godawful (repetitive, fetch quests galore!) and it was enough to kill my motivation to look around for more.
DLCs were decent. They did help flesh out the major characters of the game and their lore, though I don't really like it when DLCs are used to fix a game.
My biggest issue with this game is this. I was bored. Side quests were dull, the plot was all over the place. The world is ok at best and the combat is pretty fun but has its own issues.

Final Fantasy XVPositives+
The game looks amazing
The magic is also cool looking
The combat is very fun
The 4 main characters are very well developed and fun to listen to
The boss fights are epic looking
Magic can be overpowered
The music is very good
The ending is very satisfying despite some confusion in the storytelling
The dungeons are very atmospheric
There is loads of side stuff to do in the open world.
Negatives-
Parts of the story makes no sense unless you look it up
There isn’t enough screen time for the villains (it took me forever to figure out their motives and who they were)
One part of the story relies on liking a certain character, however this character is not developed at all.
Magic has little variety
The camera can be difficult at times
Magic can be overpowered
The world building is trash (in other words it feels like very important events are happening off-screen)
The game has a massive patch.
The game has good spectacle and the relationship between the bros is really good, but the story pacing, copy-paste quests, and overall feeling that the game wasn’t finished hold it back immensely. I had fun, but the game is just plain unfinished and wacky design-wise

this game is trash. almost from start to finish when you consider its initial run without any dlc attached.and then somehow, in a stroke of interesting luck, the dlc managed to make the situation much worse, because the expectations began to pile slowly but surely for a better game to be released as a result of it.
This did not happen.
the characters are by far the most interesting part of this game, and you only really get to know the four of them. i think gladio ends up being characterized as too much of a meathead jerk for me to like him by the time the game ends everytime he lets me know in battle i accidentally hit my gay butler who i love way more than him.
the combat system is boring, the magic system is boring and heavily flawed, every character that isn't part of your main four is flat, and the ones that arent dont join you permanently whatsoever leaving your merry band of four men as the staple of the entire game. the car is interesting? Insomnia as a city is EXTREMELY interesting, but good luck getting there because it blew up. real bad. big shame. the diners are literally copy pasted, there is nothing interesting about one rest stop from another except the few towns that exist with absolutely Nothing to do in them, the optional dungeons are interesting half of the time in their presentation and then the other half are boring slogfests with nothing to do except hit tonberry x amount of times.
i know people blame nomura for this game, but you cannot in good faith honest to goodness tell me that it is not majorly tabata's fault given his history of work in the series. crisis core was a lucky favorite for many fans, but when you think about that game and its systems for more than two seconds you curl into a ball and cry.
he uprooted the intriguing and enthralling storyline of a gang war with gods and a heavy emphasis on death and replaced it with a boy band bland adventure where you start the game to florence + the machine pushing your car, and end on a fight with a genuinely interesting character who doesn't get nearly enough screentime or story focus or payoff to justify giving him such a neat little hat.
why did this happen? i genuinely ask myself this, and asked myself this several more times as the dlcs and re-release were coming out trying desperately to patch up issues that they could only help but scramble to fix. adding in more things made the things that sucked more apparent, and thats not something a movie, a side game, a lackluster co-op addition, and a god damn novel doing its best to fix the bad story can ever hope to repair.
aranea is too pretty for this game, put her in a dissidia game that is worthwhile to play. please. i am begging you, she is a lady dragoon and we need more of those, just not in a game that wastes both its yoko shimomura soundtrack and interesting villain.
what do you mean bahamut wasn't the bad guy until the novel came out, what the hell are you talking about?!
this game sucks, anybody who liked it at the time was coping in a big way, and i hope nowadays many people are saying this.
you could get more mileage and satisfaction watching the spirits within movie. genuinely.
ignis/10, i miss you my gay butler, i wish i could have married you instead of my failwife who just explodes.

I was so hyped for this game. I remember watching all the trailers back in 2015 for it, watching the movie the anime content all of it in the lead up to it. Unfortunately it was a massive flop the game did not deliver on a lot of its promises. I enjoyed it for what it was but the 2nd have and how linear it gets just threw me off completely. The game was clearly released unfinished which is extremely sad as it had a lot of potential. Marketing and production clearly just wanted it rolled out A.S.A.P for that money! If the developers got to put more love and care into it it could of been an amazing game. A real shame.Updated 1 Year Ago

Final Fantasy XV is an odd bird as it's essentially 2 games in 1 -- The first "half" of the game (in quotes because it's technically the first half of the main quests, but it's where >90% of your time will go) is an absolute blast to play, but is almost entirely devoid of story, context or significance; the second "half" isn't much fun at all, but tells a rich, emotionally impactful story, complete with what might be the best Final Fantasy mainline antagonist since Sephiroth (Seymore and Vaine being possible contenders). What's sad is that the first "half" of the game has glimpses of story and worldbuilding in them, but the game simply doesn't attempt to incorporate them, and that makes the significance of the events later on so much lesser. Instead, you only really feel emotion because you would have, by the end, gotten very much attached to the main four characters (well, that and how excellently the final moments are cinematically directed, and musically scored). Luckily, both halves feature excellent visuals, complete with some ultra-sharp textures, nice reflection mattes, incredible particle systems and a strong artistic sensibility. The music is also absolutely stellar, probably my favorite mainline FF musical score since FF7, if not FF6 (and this is from someone who really liked the music in FF's 10, 12 & 13). But mostly, it's a good-sized open world with easy markers to follow as you complete (pointless) sidequests, and both exploration and combat are a lot of fun. If you want a game that's tons of fun to play, and features some outstanding graphics and music (literal top-tier of both), then Final Fantasy XV is absolute top-shelf and I cannot recommend it enough. I just deduct points because I feel like there was a lot of story in this game, and in this world, that the game simply didn't present itself to me, and honestly that's a massive disappointment.Updated 1 Year Ago

It's hard to rate this honestly. I had so much fun with the game, but there were some pretty glaring flaws. The story was entertaining, but didn't flow together well. The open world was a ton of fun to explore, but it felt like some areas were big just to be big, not because the space was needed. The combat is phenomenal, but sometimes the camera sucked. Chapter 13 wasn't as bad as people online make it out to be, but it lasted far too long. The best part about the game was easily the characters. I haven't felt an attachment like this to my party members in a very long time.Overall, the pros handily outweigh the cons.

Originating as a FFXIII spinoff with years spent in development limbo, Final Fantasy XV offered some intrigue as Square Enix's take on western open-world games, but suffered badly from the lackluster action-rpg combat, lame setting and placid MMO-like side quests. If for nothing else, the road trip segments are pleasant little novelties, which benefits mainly from the laid-back atmosphere and party members, all united not by a common enemy but simple friendship.Updated 1 Year Ago

A fun romp with four lovely lads just trying to get to a wedding. Rife with issues but still fun.Things I liked:
- The cast was brilliant. Human, emotional, irrational, angry, happy, sad. The main four especially felt like real friends who had been real friends for a long time. Well-written and felt like a real part of their world.
- The open world itself is a joy to just drive around in and turn on your favorite songs from the previous Final Fantasy games on the radio. Every landscape shot feels like I'm watching a trailer from E3 to show off how beautiful the game world is and it seriously, truly is. It's beautifully designed, really well-modeled, really well-sculpted from a visual standpoint of "how would this look if I was standing at point A and wanted to look out at point B?"
- The visuals are spectacular. The graphical fidelity here really manages to tread the line of "fantastic realism" while still maintaining a stylized artstyle enough to not feel like I've dipped into the photorealistic uncanny valley.
- The story itself is a lovely coming of age tale with a nice number of twists and turns and developments not just in the story but in the lives of our characters.
Things I'm mixed on:
- The combat is very hit or miss. They clearly wanted to try something different, and while it's not *bad,* it's not particularly good either.
- The back ten or so hours of the game are shockingly linear compared to the prior fifty to sixty. Most of the last act is essentially a straight corridor, almost the opposite effect of a game like FFXIII where the game opens up at the *end* as opposed to the beginning.
Things I didn't like:
- Nothing particularly wrong with it. The things that I'm mixed on are admittedly the only real issues I have with it.
Well worth a play, even if you don't particularly like action-focused RPGs.

Pros- Some of the best character interactions in a video game, fun gameplay loop, and very satisfying combatCons- Same combat can feel a little loose in certain moments. However, more importantly to me, the story could not keep up with these wonderful characters. The emotional impact from this game comes from the tragedy that these characters you grow to love face, rather than the impeccable execution of an engrossing story.
Overall, I prefer character pieces with meh story to meh characters with better executed ideas.

This would have been much more tolerable if it didn't feel like such a waste of time. Dumb, pointless task side quests, stupid long travel times to do anything, and environment where I see tiling of textures everywhere, and a bizzare cheerful tone laid on top of a fairly dark and difficult life presented in the story. It's incongruous, boring, long, and a bit ugly.
But, combat was decently fun, and the music definitely helped!
