Very satisfying game to get good at. You start off terrible and see a LARGE amount of progress...or maybe you quit and don't see any. Cartoony style is satisfying, storytelling starts off great and then slowly loses its touch. The revenge is great, but I feel the characters weren't set up enough. Has replayability...would probably get burnt out by 100 hours...if not then seek help.

An okay game, but not for me. The idea is interesting, but it is a bit of a negative feedback loop, which I hate. Furthermore, camera is too close to the character, ruining visibility in battles. Controls are also not very clear. In the theme of "mastering kung fu" (which is supposed to be hard I guess) I can understand the creative intent, but it lacks some smoother difficulty curve to learn you how to play efficiently. Here, you have an optional tutorial then it's good luck.
To compare it to something well known and successful, Batman Arkham games are just much easier to pick up, while having a certain depth too, but it doesn't have the aforementioned defaults.

Sifu is an excellent fighting game, very much focused on understanding and learning the mechanics of the game rather than just button mashing.

In spirit, Sifu is quite similar to the studio's previous game, Absolver, but the devs have done a much better job of it this time, making it a single-player game rather than a multiplayer one is already a very good point, but there's also the multitude of combat mechanics as well as the ancillary mechanics, such as the fact that you have to watch out for each death instead of just a simple gameover, which puts a certain weight on the fact of failing. You can also feel the roguelite effect, which in this particular case is really well used, between skill acquisition, which is done as you go along and requires a certain number of purchases before it can be acquired definitively, and shrines, which allow you to obtain improvements that can change the way you play, Shrines are particularly well thought-out because the possibility of upgrading is not ‘free’, it depends on different factors for the different upgrades, the one based on the score is particularly well thought-out because it pushes the player to pay attention to the way he plays if he wants to be able to unlock this upgrade and makes the score useful.
The gameplay makes the whole thing so lively and dynamic, you feel like you're in a well-choreographed kung fu film. Despite the correct amount of input, the game is fairly easy to get to grips with, but clearly difficult to master, and this can be felt during the boss battles, which require a certain mastery of how the game works in order to fully grasp the challenge.Another good idea from the devs is to keep the lowest number of lives clear for a given stage for the next one. This encourages the player to try and finish the stages with as few lives lost as possible so as to have as little impact as possible on the rest of the journey, rather than just having a one-off impact with a death.Speaking of bosses, they all have their own parterns and are all different and interesting in their own way, each bringing their own set of difficulties that help to better understand the mechanics of the game as a whole.

There are, however, a few dark spots in this very pretty picture, notably the tutorial, which is pretty poor when it comes to explaining the different mechanics of the game, and the camera is sometimes an additional enemy working against the player, preventing legibility, which is extremely important in this game.

Finally, I'd like to add that the game is quite difficult, so it's not necessarily to everyone's taste or recommendation, and certain moments could well frustrate people who aren't used to this kind of game.

In conclusion, Sifu is a very good game with a certain replayability and some very good ideas and mechanics, but it suffers a little from a poor explanation and a poor tutorial that could put some people off if you add the inherent difficulty of the title.

story seemed interesting, combat was really cool, but it's basically a soul's like and i hate how stupidly difficult soul's like games are for no reason. it's not fun to run straight into a brick wall. i had fun up to the first boss and then i aged 5+ years and said f this

If you can stomach soul's like games then I would recommend this.

A really cohesive game, the game is super challenging and a flowing combat makes this game a awesome experience to play. Combos are very satisfying to pull off and when everything begins to click the game puts you into a flow state. Areas are taken into account to make sure the environment and set pieces are beautifully crafted and really capture the kung-fu vibe the game is going for,. A must play for any gamer looking for something new.

It looks great, it sounds great... but it's just not fun.

Roguelite mechanics without gameplay/level variety is a big no-no. It also doesn't help the game doesn't have a training/practice mode for the various enemy types, forcing you to replay the levels over-and-over from the beginning just to practice on one enemy.

the bell lady's boss fight is bs thankfully it gets easier after you beat the first phase but my god that first phase is annoying also game is super short which i get the reason for it being short since its limited life's, oldest i got was 35, but still if i hadn't gotten it for free with ps plus i would be very disappointed with how short it was for the price of nearly 50 cad, over all the story is weak and the combat a bit janky at times and parrying is well annoying iv seen worst parrying but still you get so little time to parry attacks you pretty much have to always be mashing the button.

Classic 70's style martial arts movie. The artwork, story and music work really well together. The game is pretty tough until you get the hang of it and timing down but once you do it's a blast. The replay value is also there due to the secret ending, you also get to keep your skills so you character is much tougher with more moves.

The game can best be described in comparison with RUINER. The games are very similar, only the perspective differs dramatically: here it is a third-person view, there it is a top view. RUINER offers a much more logical combat system, a deeper story, a variety of upgrades and even some side quests. In Sifu everything is simple - here you have five levels with some dummies, and then a boss, which you can't even kill. There's no progression, no plot development, no solid combat system. Yes, it's kind of a beat-em-up, but with a touch of fighting game. This very admixture should make the gameplay deep, but it turns out to be the opposite effect. The combat is dull and non-obvious. There are opponents, which we kill with a couple of blows, and there are dudes, which need a long and painful grinding, and visually they can not differ in any way. So what's the point of all the cool tricks you've learned if they just don't do damage? In the end, the game for a single walkthrough, and even then on easy difficulty

Great game, really skill-based and encourages you to get better, which is where pretty much all the fun lies. Wouldn't mind some timing displays and other training mode options to help learn parrying (which I basically never did) and maybe a few other things to do. Planning to go back and clear the game at a younger age, as well as get the "true" ending, which is really hard, since the bosses all die before I can spare them. My main issue with the game is the camera, though. It's just not consistently where it needs to be, especially when you start approaching a wall. Other than that, the gameplay is very good, though the combos still don't really make sense to me. It's not my favorite combat of all time, but it's undeniably solid and feels fantastic when you're on a roll. Ultimately, it's a fun game that's dependent on you wanting to get better to be able to enjoy it, and even after making it to the end, I feel like I still have a long way to go. That said, I've seen all the game has to offer at this point, so I'm fine with just putting it down for now and maybe coming back later.

Pros:
- Art style is alright
- Gameplay and age mechanic is unique

Cons:
- Age mechanic turns the game into a repetitive padfest where you just keep replaying same bosses/levels trying to get a beat it with less deaths rather than experiencing anything new
- Dodge mechanics feel/look like shit, would benefit a ton if there was a way to invert the direction at least if youre going to make 'dodge' a 2 button combination as pressing down to dodge high feels awful
- Chose wrong upgrades? Times to replay the same starting levels again and pick the right ones
- Devs gave up on music after the second level as level 3 and 4 (didnt get to 5) are basically dead silence
- Camera is terrible and gets stuck in walls especially in close-quarter areas

Very pleasant and satisfying combat system. One of those games that has to be understood and learned to be appreciated. It gives you free choice on how to defend and how to attack so that everyone goes and develops a different style. Very nice graphic style and sound compartment. I recommend playing it in Chinese so that you can immerse yourself even more in this adventure. Fairly short video game that however focuses so much on replayability. Interesting and original death and aging system. The chapters of the main story can be completed in less than 2 hours if you complete them in a row, which however being very difficult will have to be repeated several times, even from the beginning in order to arrive with a comfortable enough age to complete the game. Repeating the levels is not boring as there are shortcuts and once you get good at it you will also be very fast, plus the combat system is so much fun that the levels are very enjoyable to be repeated. Plus with the addition of the arenas there are even more hours of gameplay and there are a lot.

🇮🇹

I have never seen a game match the action of Kung Fu movie so well. I think it can grow a bit stale after your first few runs, but taking down a group of 10+ people without getting hit never gets old. Combat once you understand can be a beautiful dance of destruction barring some of the boss fights. Story was okay I am glad I waited for this game to be on sale to play it due to it shortness, overall it was good. Quiet challenging at times especially the bosses. It also had some pretty interesting mechanics built into it, the sort of rouge lite elements of repeating and getting to level skills which can permanently unlock them which never makes a run feel like total waste. Neat game would only say play it if you enjoy difficult games which require mechanical understanding and execution mastery (like Serkio). There are no short cuts to victory and it must be earned, which can make for grueling game but through determination and execution it can be conquered.

This was a very interesting and new take on the beat em up genre and it really worked for the way the game is set up. I like how you can only learn and improve certain skill s only up to certain ages, it was like a metaphor for the saying "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" that brought a whole new level of depth to how you approach the game.

You can go back to previous levels and age down but still keep any abilities you have permanently learned. This game design does nothing but try and push the player into improving themselves through getting and mastering new moves instead of typical strength and defense up upgrades. I found this very refreshing and it gets especially fun to finish off enemies more skillfully than you did the first time as if feels you're actually improving as a player.

These moments of skill feel so great because of the excellent animations and enemy setups they have that give off a very kung fu esque vibe. There will be moments when your playing perfectly and it just looks like a scene out of John Wick where you take out five or six guys surrounding you without taking a scratch, these are the kinds of moments where the game really shines. One highlight especially is the bosses, they are for the most part very intense and fun as heck to fight, they each have two phases which makes them all feel more complete and you don't take them all down in the same way either as they all have their own ways of fighting.

As far as criticisms go, the Switch version did have performance issues at times, far from enough to be prevalent the entire game or make the game unbearable but enough to mention it. I also thought that the 3rd and 4th levels should have been swapped or changed in difficulty altogether as I thought the 4th levels' boss and enemies were significantly easier in comparison and actually would have helped to fight the 3rd boss given how they attack.

Overall the game was extremely fun to play, the gameplay was always addicting and intense to get into with all of the different skills you learn. The music is epic, the age mechanic is unique, and the art style really brings the game together to set it apart from anything else out there.

(shame).
