A fantastic story that is held back by it's clunky gameplay

Pros:
-great characters
-the story is A+. I really really enjoyed it
-great voice acting
-The graphics are very good
-I loved the old time setting and the music with all of the 20s/30s jazz.

Cons
-Since this is a remake of an old game, you can tell that they did not solve a lot of clunk that came from the original. The gun play is very clunky to the point that I would miss shots I should have hit and had to spam fire to make sure things died. I'd end up dying due to this far too often.
-The main complaint I have is the cover system, or lack thereof. I even googled to see if there's like a take cover button and all I could figure out was crouching behind cover and even when you do that the enemies can still shoot and kill you. beyond infuriating.
-This game is too difficult when you mix this horrible clunk with the fact that two to three shots kill you. I enjoy realism, but having that mixed with not being able to do simple shooting and cover properly meant I would die an upwards of 10 times on some missions for no reason, which was ridiculous
-The driving also left a lot to be desired. It was very hard to turn at higher speeds, running from cops was next to impossible at times, and just like in GTA, the AI cars that are in the world would often be in the way to make things more obnoxious. was not fun to drive.
-The AI in the game felt a little off. They would either hit you when you are crouched behind cover and feel like you shouldn't get hit, or you could exploit them by backing away from the fight, causing them to push up to meet you, leaving them in the open and making hem easy to shoot. It felt kinda dumb I could do that.

If the gameplay matched the narrative and characters, it's a 9/10 game easy, but the fact they didn't improve the gameplay to match the rest of the remake is disappointing. Also based off of how the story progresses I am confused and intrigued as to what a sequel has in store. Will hopefully get to it eventually.

Was worth playing for story alone and worth trying on ps plus. Not sure it's worth spending very much on though. Does not feel like a 2020 game gameplay wise, feels like an early 2000s clunky GTA knockoff with how it plays.

The story and characters are a bit forgettable (excluding the main cast that is actually nice) but kept me engaged the entire time.

Because the game is chapter based and you don't need to travel to the missions it breaks the emersion a bit but keeps the the content at an excellent pace, and again if the city is not rich enough with content like missions and events is the best approach.

The game as a lot of cutscenes and driving around, which isn't a bad thing by default.

 The game does not let you make any choice to the cutscenes are like watching a movie.

The driving is fine the old cars handle fine.

The weapons feel good to shoot but they can't be upgraded.

The collectibles and interactions with the world were nicely highlighted on the map (if you get close enough) which I really liked.

I don't pay much attention to music in video games but the music in this game is really good, not the radio on the car (it is also good but not the highlight) the highlight is the OST.

I did not play the side mission (can be done when the game is over).

The game is short (around 10 hours) so I think it is worth a playthrough.

Oh boy, started off strong, but the gameplay mechanics and other issues reminded me of how tedious the game can be.

The graphics have been improved from the first game, but they're a bit below the modern standard. Textures look low res, particle effects are static, and the lighting makes everyone look like a cutout doll. The car drives like a brick shithouse on wheels and same goes for running, this is how it was in the first game and I guess they decided to stay true to that, although it doesn't make the game more fun. The janky driving becomes way more apparent in chasing sequences, like going after Morello or in the racing car mission. Acceleration on most cars is as fast as a sloth figuring out why it has another existential crisis. Most environment objects can't be destroyed so even if you bump into them at low speed the game exaggerates it and makes it look like a crash. The animations are pretty bad, whenever you interact with something the character sort of slides and glides into the animation. The cutscenes are decent though.

The story is great. It starts off really down to earth and makes you cheer for the main character as an ordinary guy with fears and daily life struggles. But on the other hand some parts are quite ridiculous. Mowing down dozens of police officers in the barn and everywhere else and then blowing up multiple cars would be the crime of the decade, but here it's kinda glossed over. I lost count of how many people we killed throughout the missions, but brushing it off by becoming a rat and an 8 year prison sentence is the deal of the century. Sam being a shmuck was a bit foreshadowed but still feels shitty. I guess in the end you can't really trust anyone, besides your family (the real one). Getting killed by Salieri goons at the end feels bittersweet. On one hand we kind of deserve it after all the shit we've done, but getting gunned down after making peace and leaving it all behind is a kick in the nuts.

Anyways, it's a short story game, with mediocre gameplay, but decent writing and cutscenes. I liked it.

(01/09/2024) No sabria decir si es un buen ramake porque nunca juegue el original pero lo que si puedo decir es que es un buen juego apesar de algunos detalles, lo mas interesante de este juego es su gunplay muy divertido la verdad que te lleva a estar usando constantemente las coberturas y seguir avanzando, lo segundo es su historia que muy seguramente es igual que el juego original ya que apesar de ser interesante es bastante cliché no me lograron sorprender en ningún momento siempre predecia que era lo siguiente en pasar, su mundo es BELLISIMO con mucho detalle pero es solo una maqueta ya que su mundo abierto es inexistente la verdad y en lo que me quejo de esta juego seria en sus errores gráficos y descuidos ya que tiene bastantes la verdad

C'est la première fois que je touche à un Mafia et c'est pas pour me déplaire. Le jeu est absolument sublime visuellement, la direction artistique avec l'ambiance dans les années 30 est vraiment top, on s'y croit vraiment et c'est tout ce que j'aime. L'histoire est très agréable à suivre, un bon film de mafieux comme les Affranchis ou le Parrain (sans en atteindre les sommets non plus). Les personnages sont cools à suivre malgré des animations assez bof pour la plupart. Mais franchement ça se fait très facilement et en très peu de temps.

Par contre, le gameplay est assez basique, la conduite est assez moyenne et les missions sont assez répétitives pour la plupart en excluant 2/3 missions très cools.

Go faire le 2 maintenant

I'm not sure what I was expecting going into this remaster, maybe something like GTA? But what I got was something way different and in my opinion, way better than that. Some of the footage might look GTA like but all of the fat's been cut away - this is a tightly structured, linear cinematic experience with nothing but great story interspersed with great gameplay. This might sound crazy but you know what it actually reminded me of more than anything else? Mass Effect. There's no relationship management or RPG elements, but there is an awesome cast of characters with great acting, writing, and directing, and then in between you get to have fun driving around and shooting people. I usually don't go that crazy over story but this one was so good I couldn't help but be invested - I kept guessing what the plot twists would be and every time I would be wrong and I loved every minute of it. I am really glad I played the Definitive Edition - I'm a bit of a baby for modern gameplay, and the outdated graphics, voice acting and controls probably would've been a distraction. But I can't think of a single complaint for this version - the only reason it didn't rank higher is just because there are other genres and combat systems I personally happen to enjoy even more than a great story.

Mafia: Definitive Edition a été une véritable révélation pour moi, en tant que nouveau venu dans l’univers de Mafia. J'ai eu le plaisir de découvrir ce jeu sur PC, en qualité maximale, avec l'option HUD réduite, et j'ai joué à la manette. Voici ce que j'en retiens :

Graphismes et immersion : Avec les paramètres graphiques poussés au maximum, j'ai été totalement plongé dans l'ambiance des années 1930. La ville de Lost Heaven est superbement détaillée, et chaque scène est un vrai plaisir visuel. L'option HUD réduite amplifie cette immersion en me laissant profiter pleinement de l’environnement sans distractions inutiles, même si parfois il y a quelques ombres qui sautent un peu.

Une narration captivante : Même sans avoir joué à l'original, j’ai été immédiatement pris par l’histoire. Les dialogues et la mise en scène sont excellents, et l’intrigue m’a accroché du début à la fin.

Un gameplay bien équilibré : Jouer à la manette s’est révélé être une expérience agréable. Cela m’a même surpris, étant habituellement un joueur clavier-souris. Les contrôles sont intuitifs et la réactivité est bonne, même si la conduite des véhicules peut paraître un peu rigide par moments. Le tout reste fluide et plaisant !

Ambiance sonore : La bande-son, composée de musique d'époque, et les doublages de très bonne qualité ajoutent vraiment à l’expérience. C’est un vrai plaisir de naviguer dans cet univers au son de cette musique qui colle parfaitement à l'époque et à l’atmosphère du jeu.

Mon expérience en tant que nouveau joueur : Découvrir Mafia pour la première fois avec cette version remasterisée a été un vrai bonheur. Le jeu est beau, immersif et captivant, sans que je ressente le besoin de connaître la version originale pour en profiter pleinement. Jouer avec les graphismes au maximum et un HUD épuré a rendu l'expérience encore plus impressionnante.

Mafia: Definitive Edition m’a offert une aventure inoubliable. Ce jeu est une belle porte d’entrée dans la série.

Apesar de ser um game de 2002, ainda assim consegue ser totalmente jogável e divertido para os dias atuais. Um ótimo jogo com uma pegada bastante semelhante ao GTA porém depois de ter zerado posso dizer que um dos fatores que faz ele ser ótimo é a sua história, basicamente ele carrega o jogo com um enredo envolvente e ótimos personagens, de ponto negativo eu destacaria as suas missões que resumidamente é pegar o carro, ir até um local, matar uns inimigos e ao final assistir a uma Cutscene da história e isso é até legal no começo mas logo se cansa por ser repetitivo mas o bom que a jogo não é longo, sendo que conclui em pouco mais de 11 horas. Outro ponto negativo é o seu mundo aberto que tem quase nada para se fazer nele e por último de negativo fica os vários crash que o jogo apresentou e tive que fechar e abrir de novo para continuar a jogatina. No mais deu para curtir o game e recomendo para quem não teve ainda a oportunidade de jogá-lo.

It is a beautifully done remake of the first part of the mafia series, it was quite an atmospheric adventure. Graphically it stands on a high level, the gameplay is a bit slow and the melee animations are repetitive, while the missions are quite spectacular and it's fun to shoot. I have the impression that much more the game could have squeezed out of the city, there were not too many side activities like in Mafia II. A lot in this game is based on driving vehicles, sometimes to get to the quest I had to skip the tedious driving from point A to B. The AI is sometimes super stupid and goes out into the middle of the battle instead of using cover, there is also not much variety of weapons, mostly we just use the thompson (I got to the sniper once and it had three rounds even I had nowhere to use it), there was also a lack of little things like changing character's outfit like in second part. You can certainly have a lot of fun if you set the game to black and white setting and classic difficulty level. Optimization-wise, there is nothing to complain about, which is rare in games on the modern market. Cutscenes and voice acting are well done. The storyline was too slow at first for me, while the second half of the game accelerates strongly in terms of action. I especially liked the ending with the reference to Mafia II. I definitely missed getting to know the characters story in more depth, and the character plot twists were a bit too forced and happened without a really big reason at times. Overall, I consider it a fine remake, although I expected much more. I had more fun in the second part because I was more involved and connected with the characters Vito & Joe rather than Tommy, Paulie or Sam.

I never played the original but I did play Mafia 2 back in the day. This game/remake is a masterpiece for me.

It has an awesome vibe, great story and characters, and some good accessibility options for not-so skilled people like me haha.

It's a pity that 2 and 3 are not on GamePass yet.

Don Salieri never became the boss you wanted to work for, Tommy might has well have been a mute. In the end, Paulie was the best character. Don Morello(the main antagonist) had a handful of scenes, which weren't great or anything to hook you onto. The story was pretty forgetful outside of the nice visuals. Setting up Vito and the next game was a nice touch at the end.

Unfortunately, it feels more like a spiritual successor of Mafia 3 than the legendary Mafia The City Of The Lost Heaven.
It looks okay and plays somewhat acceptable, but the changes in the scenario made it a bit flat, plus deleting the openworld elements (trains and trams) isn't appreciated.
Buggy and tasteless... The team wasn't talented enough to recreate the magic.
I wish there were more love towards the classics

A Way Out, hikaye anlatımıyla ön plana çıkan bir oyun. Oyun Leo ve Vincent isimli iki kişinin aynı kişiye intikam duygusu beslemesi sonucu beraber hapisten kaçmasını konu alıyor. Oyunun hikayesi bayağı bir dram içeriyor. İki adet son bulunuyor ve bu sonları belirlemek oyuncunun refleks ve becerisiyle değişiyor. Spoiler vermeden söylemek gerekirse iki son da aşırı vurucu ve derinden etkiliyor.

Bu oyun da tıpkı It Takes Two gibi Split-Screen olarak oynanıyor ve 2 kişi oynamanız zorunlu, tek kişi oynayamıyorsunuz. Aynı zamanda yine bu oyunu da tek bir kişinin alması yetiyor, davet edeceğiniz arkadaşınız Friend Pass sayesinde oyuna ücretsiz olarak erişebiliyor.

Oyunun temposu ağır, It Takes Two gibi akıp gitmiyor. Ara ara aksiyon sahneleri var, onun dışında durağan geçiyor. Bu yüzden oynanış anlamında sıkıcı bir deneyim yaratabilir. Oyun mekanik anlamında da biraz zayıf kalmış. Her ne kadar her bölüm farklı farklı şeyler yaptırsa da bunları çok basit düzeyde tutmuşlar, eğlenceli değiller. Araç kullanımı ve ateş etme vasat kalmış. Ama dediğim gibi bu oyun oynanışıyla değil, hikayesiyle ön plana çıkan bir oyun. Oyun tıpkı It Takes Two gibi bünyesinde birçok mini oyun bulunduruyor. Dart, basketbol, beyzbol, bilek güreşi... Ara ara durağan oynanıştan kopup bunları oynamak iyi hissettiriyor.

Grafikleri çıktığı yıla bakarsak ortalama. Zaten Split-Screen olduğu için pek grafik aramadım. Sistem gereksinimi de yüksek olmayan bir oyun. Birçok sistemin rahatlıkla kaldıracağı bir oyun.

Oyunda Türkçe dil desteği maalesef bulunmuyor fakat az çok İngilizce biliyorsanız hikayeyi rahatlıkla anlayacağınızı düşünüyorum. Ağır bir dil yok oyunda, gayet anlaşılabilir ve basit düzeyde. Oynanış süresi olarak aşağı yukarı 6-8 arasında bitirebilirsiniz oyunu. Özellikle upuzun oyunlardan sıkılan ben için bu oynanış süresi gayet ideal geldi. Yer yer durağan gidişattan sıkılmış olsam da hikayenin nereye bağlanacağını merak ettiğim için oynamaya devam etmek istedim. Genellikle bir oyunda oynanışa bakarım ama sırf hikayesi için oynadığım nadir oyunlardan birisi oldu A Way Out.

O jogo está muito bonito, mal polido, mas bem jogável no PC. A história é a clássica vendetta italiana envolvendo traição dentro da máfia, contada lindamente e bem desenvolvida. Já a gameplay é extremamente decepcionante, a gunplay é péssima, presa e desengonçada, os veículos tem a dirigibilidade horrível, mas nesse caso talvez seja proposital para reproduzir os veículos da época. A cidade é sem graça, então só vale a pena seguir a campanha sem explorar. As missões são bem elaboradas e nada repetitivas.

The game is so well built and remade. It's so refreshing to have a "linear" game with such a good story during this period with so many open-worlds.
The story is a masterpiece on it's own...
The gunplay is not that great and the gameplay is not amazing, but just follow the story and enjoy.
The graphics are stunning when you realize what the base game is.
I loved it, what a short, but great experience.
