Hey bud, im a lifelong gamer as well. Im 36 and started gaming on hand me down consoles, beginning as early as the Atari 2600 to go on to include Coleco Vision, Intellovision, NES and Sega Genesis and then I took the jump to Sony. I own the PS1,2,3,4,5 and use to have but sold an Xbox 360, XBox one and OG Xbox. For handhelds I have a GBC, GBA, PSP 2000, PSP 3000, DS Lite, 3DS, Switch and Switch OLED, I primarily play and collect for Sony and Nintendo these days. I prefer story driven games with a definitive beginning, middle and end. I play quite a few other genres but usually they are used to break up the many long jrpgs I play.
I look forward to reading more of your updates and excellent job on your english!

Anything mobile, I know there are some bangers out there but I just cant get a feel for controls without physical buttons and GTA. I liked it for just exploring and doing dumb stuff but as far as the campaign goes I couldnt care less. I tried a few times but I just kept getting bored.

The bizarre thing is, I have never played nor do I own this game. I'll have to rectify that.

Honestly it varies for me.
The games I play on my switch and PS5 I really dont care how long it takes. Im a gamer dad that works alot and I dont have much time for games so like right now im 80hrs into Rebirth and I have been playing it since launch. Im taking my time and enjoying the world, characters and gameplay. Doing whatever side content that I feel is worth playing in the game. It took me a year and a half to beat The Witcher 3 and all the DLCs. 185ish hrs.
Now I also have my emulation handheld that I like to punch out games during my downtime at work. I play alot of SNES, PS1 and gameboy games on it. Those are what generally bring my numbers up for completions because I dont really care all that much about them and its meant to kill time. I have come across some gems that I never got the chance to play or I didnt fell like was worth my precious free time with this device.
For the bigger experiences I take my sweet time and the credits roll whenever they roll.
All in all, if I am really enjoying the game I want to be fully immersed and explore every nook and cranny, not for trophies or completions, just because it what I enjoy doing to alleviate my stress.

I screw up posting images on here all the time so ill just type it.
I just finished Castlevania : Symphony of the Night for the first time. I think it was a very good, well fleshed out game but I wouldnt put it on the God tier game list that most people seem to. Its a solid castlevania game but the inverted castle seemed like an afterthought. I get what they were trying to do and the minibosses were great but by the time I went through the motions to get there I was pretty much done.
At least there is some great weapon combos you can get from there to just cheez the rest of the game if you dont feel like doing it and just want to get to the credits.
Thank you Shield Rod + Alucards Shield.

I was amassing a large collection of games, I started by making a catalogue on gameye and everytime I played a game I liked to track my time. I already used this site to get an idea of playtime and I saw that I could make a backlog on here for my ever expanding collection of games. Once I realized that this site is mostly user generated I wanted to hop on board.
It was a win win for me, I could track my completions and playtime as well as manage games beaten and my backlog. Now I use HLTB to pick my next game, I select the console I want and hit randomize and boom, theres the next one out of my backlog I can tackle.

Reasons besides "pure fun" for playing videogames

So this topic is a pretty good one that I've talked about with a few others from time to time. My reason for playing games is that I had a bad childhood or lack there of to be frank. When I was a kid I had a couple hand me down systems and games and when things would get bad in my house I would play games as a means of escaping since there was nowhere I could actually go that was safe. That brings me today. With all the trauma I've been through its no surprise that I have to work through depression and anxiety on a daily basis and ironically enough I work a career that has one of the highest rate of depression, alchoholism, and suicide. Our average life expectancy after retirement is 15 months.
I can honestly say that video games have saved my life. If I did not have a way to escape via gaming than I probably wouldnt be here right now. Being out of my own head was the best thing I could do. Nowadays I am better at managing those emotions but having ADHD on top of all those other issues my mind is constantly racing, theres about 5 dialogues and a song or 2 going on all at the same time.
But when I play games it all goes quiet and the only thing my brain focuses on is the story, sounds, visuals and the challenges you overcome in games. I only play single player story based games. Being lost in another world is theraputic to me and ill say once again.
I wouldnt be here right now if it wasn't for video games, they hold a special place in my heart.

How has nobody mentioned Final Fantasy XVI with Bahamuts Dominant Prince Dion and his lover. I dont really like when gay relationships are thrown into a game for diversity sake when it doesnt really make sense in the context of the game but Prince Dion and his lover whose name I cant quite remember is such a compelling and tastefully done part of the story.

When I got back into gaming back in 2019 this Ori and the blind forest was one of the first games I beat. I enjoyed it so much I immediately went to Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Man the way this game comes full circle from the beginning of blind forest to the end of will of the wisps is just beautiful. When I figured out at the end of the Will of the Wisps who the narrator and the tree was it brought it tear to my eye.

Hellblade : Sanua's Sacrifice was a nice short journey for me. A serious mind fuck of a game too, play with a headset on. Martha is Dead was a short jaunt through a twisted mind of a girl through WW2 and was less than 10 hours if I recall.

Probably sell my collection and get a bigger house. If I owned and already played every game that I wanted to that exists at said time my collection would be worth hundreds of thousands.

I personally liked the gameplay on the first one a little bit more but the completion of the story was fantastic. Totally came full circle and brought tears to my eyes.
