It depends on your tastes, what you should start off with. My first was Nocturne, but the difficulty is sure to ward off many.
I say go with Persona 3, it's one of the best in the series and if you like it Persona 4 will be godly to you. Don't worry about P1-2, if you like it that much you can play them but you don't require it as a means to understand the continuity.

Just finished Rant by Chuck Palahniuk, reading The Snows of Kilimanjaro and Other Stories by Earnest Hemingway, The Angel Esmeralda by Don Delillo, and Blindness by Jose Saramago. Still looking for a copy of Tell-All.
It has been 3 weeks since I said I started Jonathan Wild by Henry Fielding, since then I have read "The Wanting Seed" by Anthony Burgess, "Silas Marner" by George Eliot, "The Old Man and The Sea" by Ernest Hemingway, "The Decay of the Art of Lying" by Mark Twain, "A Dog's Life" By Mark Twain, "In the Year 2889" credited to Jules Verne but likely written by his son Michael. "The Magic Fishbone A Holiday Romance From the Pen of Miss Alice Rainbird, Aged 7" by Charles Dickens, and "The Trial of William Tinkling Written by Himself at the Age of 8 Years" by Charles Dickens. I am currently reading "Erewhon" by Samuel Butler.

Finished Fight Club a while ago and really enjoyed it, now I'm reading Invisible Monsters. I'm taking a break from Women because seriously nothing happens.
Also picked up The Shining by Stephen King and Blindness by Jose Saramago.

My roommate really likes Palahniuk. Right now he's reading Tell-All and he really likes it.

If the game doesn't have an achievement system, I'm going to beat it 100%. If it does, I better like it a lot. Either way beating a game with every doohicky and sidequest finished just feels better than leaving it like that.

Glory of Heracles - The entire series isn't great, but hey, Sparta.
Does Fable count? Because the first Fable game is one of my all time favorites.

Pokemon XD - I remember just playing it for hours when I was around 9. I never watched the series or had a modern gaming console to that point, but Pokemon was all the rage and it with Coloseum were some of the five games I had for the system. I remember that my dad, who to that point wasn't a fan of electronics aside from television, bought it with the help of a roommate and friend. I still have the game and I think of him often now.
Fallout, Ultima, Dungeon Keeper and Age of Empires - Back before I got my Gamecube the same roommate had introduced me to some DOS titles, Dungeon Keeper being my favorite at the time. I remember killing my own people in Empires for good amusement.
Super Mario Bros and Startropics - Super Mario Bros, and Startropics.

I enjoy finding things out on my own, unless of course the game has a tenancy of punishing you for doing so. Still, I like to keep the experience the most organic as possible before I resort to any guidebook. For an open world game? That's practically taboo, that and survival horror.

The CD-i is hard to find because it looks exactly like an old DVD player. It's like camouflage, really. I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a truckload of them at some thrift store labeled as such.

Ultima 7: The Black Gate, SMT Nocturne, Resident Evil Director's Cut (I almost beat it without saving, superweapons, or a first aid spray, but I was ganged upon by two hunters near the end), Fable LC, Killer7 and I just beat Shadows of The Damned.

PC VS. Console

I wouldn't take one over the other. Most great WRPGs were on the old DOS but other than that a lot of my favorite games were exclusive to console, aside from the Ultima series and whatnot. I'd be more of a PC gamer if my current PC could actually run more than a bad emulation of Pac Man, but until then I've got consoles and the Black Screen.
