I adore this game. Its not an objective masterpiece but the lore, the unique premise and setting, the music, the charming characters and the battle system shining at boss battles all come together to make me really enjoy it.Updated 1 Year Ago

Great interactions between characters and such a pleasant soundtrack. The game aged like fine wine and I wish modern RPGs can take notes off of this one.Updated 1 Year Ago

Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia was a collection of recycled ideas and assets with concepts borrowed from Sakura Wars and Tales, while boasting the usual embarrassing anime-isms to boot. Outside of the premise, a lot of ideas are either lazily implemented or squandered by its lack of difficulty. Trivial beyond belief in the scene of 2006.Updated 1 Year Ago

Amazing spriting, a lot of the writing takes a giant hit outside of the cosmospheres in lieu of the MC, which greatly hinder this title from being one of my favoritesUpdated 6 Years Ago

Game was outstanding for the most part, until you look at it in retrospect. Story wasn't too complex or deep, but it had charm. Combat was simple and late game you may not even need your Reyvateil. Music however was absolutely amazing. Graphics of the game weren't too great but they weren't horrible either, all around save for the music and general "uniqueness" to the setting of the story, game is just "ok" by today's standards.Updated 8.5 Years Ago

Very fun JRPG. The crafting system was a plus, the characters were very cliche, though (almost to the point of being cheesy). Forgiven, as it is an old game. The story was very diverse and I have yet to figure out half of what is going on (LOL)! Hopefully that'll change after beating Ar Tonelico 2. Combat system felt unique, but I'm a JRPG amateur and have only beat maybe 10+ JRPGs.The music was deeply satisfying, to say it left me mystified would be an understatement.
A little warning, there was enough sexual innuendo to leave me baffled (HAH! VIRGIN). It almost felt like a visual novel, what with heroine girls like Misha, Aurica, and Shurelia. Honestly, it wouldn't have been bad at all if the game's sequel featured Lyner with varying character progression (he's pretty generic but has a good base, in my opinion). What I meant by that is he's pretty much the same person throughout the whole game.
All in all, an entertaining experience!

I really sped through this, I was playing with my friend and was attempting to stay ahead of them, even if it meant missing a lot of things. I hurried up the dialogue where I had seen it already, which happened more in Phase 3. I only made it to level 6 of Aurica and Misha's cosmospheres. Then I took the quick ending at the end of Phase 2. I didn't Grathmeld everything necessary either, My ending party was level 50 to 54. There is a lot of things I missed, and rest assured this game has tons and tons of replay value. Multiple endings, I can see trying to 100% the cosmospheres is going to be a chore. I'd predict to 100% this game it will be well over 200 hours. Why? Because you have two paths to choose, there are multiple endings. I've now seen one ending so my speedrun will get added into the 100% time. Finding all the recipe cards, and grathmelding everything is also going to be a bit of a chore. I know I have at least 3 more play throughs, of which two will have to be more complete. I truly enjoyed this game, it is a very worth while turn based, party system RPG, that can easily be picked up, it also has a fantastic story, full of laughs. The voice acting is fantastic and I swear I have heard those voices elsewhere. The music is some of the best I have heard in a game. The world map isn't great but you can get used to it.Updated 11 Years Ago

A great, fun, and unique game. The setting is one that I've really never seen before, and the idea of Revateils and their lineage is extremely interesting. GUST created an interesting new world, and built a fine narrative to keep you intrigued, revealing bits about the tower and the world without completely overwhelming or confusing you. Even the innuendo-filled Cosmosphere is an entertaining way to level up your Songs (think of them as magic spells). The gameplay, however, is a little boring, due partly to the typical easy GUST difficulty. Battles are slight road bumps in the story, instead of a challenge; there are also a few mechanics that aren't really explained, and will leave players a little confused as to what certain numbers might mean. Find a way to learn it all, however, and you can practically break the game, making everything up to and including the final boss a joke. That might be why none of it is explained...This game is well worth its money in the story alone. If you're looking for a superior gameplay experience as opposed to a great story, though, it may be better to look towards another game.

Ar Tonelico is probably going to be one of those guilty pleasure titles for some players. It's got an interesting story, some creative characters, and very unique ways of bending standard RPG clich¿s on their heads. Unfortunately, it doesn't go nearly far enough with them. The battle system is too easy and the exploration system is too limited. Plus, the dive system comes with a host of issues that complicate the entire reason behind the feature in the first place. It's not even so much that the game can come off as a surprising date sim-lite turn-based adventure. It's that a couple of less defined game features weaken a title that would've otherwise been impressive.Updated 17.5 Years Ago
