I'm a bit confused. You say that VC games are considered more primary as a platform compared to BC?

I understand that for older consoles like GBA and PS3, but all Xbox/360 games playable on XB1 can be bought on that platform. So will BC on PS5, XB1 and XSX be considered the same as VC titles?

I went back and forth on Virtual Console because you are buying a ported emulated version that plays on a new console VS. using a disk or cartridge in a new platform.

This was all before I developed the new categorization platform system. I think I can just have those systems listed as "Virtual Console" type for Wii, Wii U, 3DS, etc.

That doesn't quite answer my question. Is BC on XB1/XSX/PS5 going to be treated the same as Nintendo's VC in your new system?

Let's say you play Secret of Monkey Island (Xbox 360 title) on an Xbox Series X.

It will be categorized as Backwards Compatible in my platform system. Not native to Xbox Series X.

Time submitted will be accepted and calculated into the HLTB time but Xbox Series X will not be listed under Platforms at the top of the game page.

It will show down below in the Platform Breakdown system. In the future they will show their "Type" down there too.

Edit: To further muddy this beautiful water... Now take, Forza Horizon 4. Microsoft has stated that it will receive an update for Series X. Forza Horizon 4 then becomes an Xbox One, and Xbox Series X game.

Titanfall 1 will likely not see an official upgrade to Series X so it stays Xbox One release title with Series X being categorized as BC.

Looking at other sites you can see how they handle them. Moby games generally accepts VC games as a new platform release but not backwards compat. Giantbomb does the same but both have weird inconsistent platforms. Gamefaqs seems to stick to original platform releases for the most part.

Moby Games
Super Mario 64
Nintendo 64, Wii, Wii U

Super Mario Galaxy
Android, Wii, Wii U

Splatterhouse
Arcade, BlackBerry, FM Towns, iPhone, J2ME, PlayStation 3, PSP, PS Vita, TurboGrafx-16, Wii, Windows, Windows Mobile

Giantbomb
Super Mario 64
Nintendo 64. PC, Wii Shop, Wii U

Super Mario Galaxy
Wii, Wii U

Splatterhouse
Arcade, FM Towns, iPhone, PC, PlayStation 3, TurboGrafx-16, Wii Shop, Xbox 360

Gamefaqs
Super Mario 64
Nintendo 64

Super Mario Galaxy
Wii

Splatterhouse
Arcade Games, FM Towns, iOS, PC, TurboGrafx-16, Windows Mobile

Mobygames can be somewhat inconsistent. I've worked on some games with proper ports today where all the releases are bundled, and some where they are split. But that might just be the nature of crowd sourced databases.

Yeah, this is why I found it important to build the systems the way I did. The platform list is crowd sourced and only so reliable so I want to make sure applicable user submissions are included and the system is flexible to handle it all.

So what you're saying is that VC releases are considered native ports for Nintendo consoles only, not Sony and Microsoft consoles. This feels too arbitrary to me. It isn't even something that will affect my own games since I log according to version played, not hardware played on. But I do feel like it is a inconsistent in how identical systems are treated differently by manufacturer.

No. I updated my original update post after I replied to you with this:
This was all before I developed the new categorization platform system. I think I can just have those systems listed as "Virtual Console" type for Wii, Wii U, 3DS, etc.

So basically VC will be handled like the BC since they are emulated versions.

Or make it a toggle in the options - I prefer it the way it currently is but understand why some users would want it to be arranged differently.

If you mark a game as playing or backlog or anything.... it'll show up in your profile page as "added" under the recent listings.

But how come when modifying it, it doesn't update the recent activity listing?

Say for example I add that I'm playing Ghost of Tsushima. It'll list it "as playing". Then a month later when I return and mark the game as "completed", it doesn't update the listing there to say "added to completed" or whatever. There is no activity update.

It makes it seem like there is less activity that there really is and no one really sees any follow up activity to the lists, only the initial adding of the game.

If I add a game to my backlog, it'll say "added to backlog" on the recent activity listing. If I then start playing the game... there is no update to in the activity listing to reflect that it's now being played, etc.

Can this be fixed/added? Would love for the recent activity to actually showcase latest list updates as I would have assumed that was the intention.

I don't know if it's just me but the mobile version of the site keeps freezing on me. It's been that way for two days now. Never happened once before, now I have to literally close Safari and start the app again. It happens every few minutes and it's very annoying. Will try with Firefox to see if it's the same...

I know what you mean... but checking the forum on my iPod Touch with Safari has been at least 80% of my site usage in the past five years and this NEVER happened before. But since yesterday, it happens all the time, literally. This is unusual. And HLTB is the only webiste that does that.

When I mean freeze, it's like, it will load half the page and stop there. I can't refresh, I can't click anywhere. I have to completely close Safari and restard it. Then I will browse the forum for 1 minute, get in a different thread, and BAM, it will load half the page and freeze again.

This morning, it froze when I wanted to post that message about my issues. I hit "reply" to post a new message and as soon as I get the field to type in my post, it froze again and had to restard Safari once more. I've never had that issue, not even once, before. Never. And now it's literally every minute. It started yesterday. I don't know if Everdred changed something 48 hours ago?

Anyway, this is wierd...

I looked at my "Last Modified" timestamps and I haven't made any changes to the site since 9/22 @ 1:40pm CST and that was just a single page with a very minor adjustment.

Am I the only one who keeps getting the "HowLongToBeat is under heavy load, please wait 60 seconds and try again!" message a lot at the moment?
