@lowdefal: I had the same problem as you and GamerAim on Firefox mobile but it stopped today. So maybe really a caching issue, as Everdred suggested (in regards to Firefox mobile)?

@Everdred: Stats -> Release year 1966: overall 0 releases, 1 release in April.
Btw: new stats page looks nice! I'm always pro more/improved stats :)

[edit] @GamerAim: Well said :)

That did indeed do the trick. I thought I had cleared the cache but oh well.

I haven't quite gotten the hang of caching on the new CDN, it never behaves like I expect it to. I'll be trying a new solution next update.

Is there any way to view the 100 most submitted games? Since the website got updated i can only view the 25 most submitted.

Go to Search > Sort Options > Sort By > Most Submissions

You can show the stats themselves with Modifiers > Show User Stats

This is very minor. Hardly worth mentioning. But as someone who claims to be wise in the way of grammar, I would be remiss if I didn't note the most unfortunate error at the bottom of the Friend Statistics page. Since 'friends' is plural, the apostrophe should come after the S, not before it. Besides, if my 12th Grade English teacher was grading this website, this would be an automatic ten-point reduction, and we wouldn't want that.

And now that I'm looking at the page, I guess I could also point out that it should probably be 'Most Retired' games instead of 'Most Retire.'

Haha, how embarrassing.

I often spend so much time on the code, I don't pay enough attention to the actual public facing words.

I'll fix these in the next push.

Edit: Other fun stuff coming next update too! (Monday)

I know the feeling. I can scour something that I've written four or five times and STILL miss some stupid error. It's usually when my brain starts moving faster than my fingers and I skip over a few words. Grr.

@NinjaRic - I did notice your rather large number of retirements (I have a very respectable zero, of course 😜), and I was going to mention it, but I didn't want anything superfluous in my previous post that might have taken away from Everdred's wanton slaughter of the English language.

Ok... friendS'... *takes notes*

My 12th Grade English teacher... *counts fingers* *counts schools* Once confused the closet besides the classroom door with the classroom door, opened it, walked in it, closed the door behind him, stayed there for 10 seconds, opened the door, looked at ~30 confused students and said something along the lines of "Well, that doesn't look like the class room." ... how? I mean I understand that he might have been "brain afk" and on auto pilot... but why he hasn't snapped back to reality when he looked at the empty closet instead of a classroom and even walked in it is beyond me...

It also depends on the usage. The apostrophe falls depending on how many "friends" you are counting and whether or not it is being used possessively or just plural.

1 Friend = I share my friend's opinion regarding this game.
2+ Friends = I like to see my friends' ratings on HLTB.
Not possessively regardless of the number = Several people on HLTB are friends.

I entered my retirements recently. I was quite shocked to hit 160ish!

I thought about it and decided it was a badge of honour that I had tried so many games :)

Everything looks good to me, however, have you ever considered doing something to the categories to make them pop more? Perhaps it is not that they are confusing or some such, just that from a glance that they look the same and are just sort of sitting there in no way really separate from each other even though they very much are.

Not sure if it would be possible to do, but something like this as an example?

Changing the text size and color in the options creates something that makes you pause and consider your choices a bit more as well as drawing your eye to the information you are most considering when deciding where your playthrough falls. Also perhaps even changing the second "Main Story" into something like "Main Story+" to make it not look identical to the one above it.

Just a thought. Either way, it all looks good to me.

Out of curiosity has anyone else had an issue where pages for certain games are not registering current player count? Recently completed a Half-Life 2 mod (Downfall) and the page mentioned I was the only one playing. However, after it updated to tell me this I looked at the Playing section and there are about 5-6 people actually playing? Not sure how many other pages are affected by this.

Confirmed. I checked a few random games, and you can see a similar thing with Final Fight

In my recent update, I made a change so that only people playing in the last 90 days actually register to the count.

I need to update the playing pages to be consistent. That is still showing all time users, I want to remake those pages anyway so I haven't done that yet.

This is cool, but depending on how accurate you want it to be, it's also kind of inaccurate (not that it matters either) - eg, I have a big "playing" list of games that I dip in and out of but haven't finished - the only ones I tend to "update" on the site are games that don't have some kind of time tracking elsewhere. So I never really update steam games until I've finished, because the total time will be there when I'm done, but I constantly update console games that I manually track the time for, because otherwise I'll not know how long they took when I'm done.

I know we've talked before how I'm a bit of an outlier with how I use the list, and probably how I tend to jump between lots of different games, but just wanted to add that other use-case where updates may not indicate "playing" or not. Then again... what else do you have to go on to determine if something's abandoned and left in the category or not?! lol maybe this is all useless info =)

That's good info.

The only other metric I thought to use is games marked as playing from users that logged in within a certain amount of time. That's a little more demanding on the database but nothing crazy.

I'm just eliminating users or playthroughs that haven't been touched for years. That was really skewing the data for playing.

aye I feel like if someone's actively using the site, then they probably have their lists up to date, so that might be a good idea if it's not too taxing =)

I dig the need to somehow weed out the abandoned plays... probably no easy way that will be 100% accurate either way!

Woo, some nice tooltips!

SUGGESTION: Maybe not a good suggestion, but a stat for "longest individual playthroughs?"

SUGGESTION: This is probably more resource intensive than the 90 day playing filter, but could you filter individual games by some margin of their recorded days to beat? I'm pretty sure I've seen that before, a stat for a game from the day you added it to Playing to the marked Completion date. So like most people take 45 days to beat it from the time they add it to Playing, and if they're playing it for 90 days they're removed from the list? I don't think this is better than your other suggestion, but it was one I thought of.
