Given everyone else was also doing it, I thought I'd go through and list a bunch of the games here I own or have played. There's a bunch here I did not get to as I planned or only got a little, but don't worry. I will. Games I've beaten are in bold.

Minesweeper (N/A) - I did play this on Windows, long before I ever found this.

Transistor (5/10) - This is a game I was disappointed by. It is visually stunning and the gameplay is fun enough, but it is so easy that it takes away from the variety due to how super OP some options are, and while Royce Bracket has Top 5 Video Game Voices and is great the rest of the narrative was not my cup of tea. Pass.

Hollow Knight (N/A) - I started this but only got like an hour into it before I got called away by RL and then never got back to it. Absolutely gonna return to it one day.

DOOM 2016 (N/A) - See above basically. Got in slightly, need to get back to it.

Final Fantasy VII (N/A) - Same as the others but one I will probably get to MUCH sooner. I'm approaching 50 RPGs finished (at 43 right now) and want at least one Final Fantasy in there, 6 and 7 being big contenders.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (9/10) - It isn't my absolute favorite Zelda (that would be Majora's Mask), but it is up there which given I am not usually a huge fan of huge open world games surprised me. I tend to like more packed but smaller open worlds, like Yakuza. I think the fact it made traversal so fun was a big part of it (maybe I should try the Spider-Man games?), and the post-apocalyptic "nature is healing" vibe meant there was more narrative resonance for the barren-ness. Combat was fun (if rather basic), it is LITTERED with secrets to find, and the story was actually pretty fun. If there's one thing I'd love to see in Tears of the Kingdom? True Zelda dungeons, as fun as the Divine Beasts are I would have sacrificed a multitude of Shrines if it meant I got a few truly longer traditional Zelda dungeon experiences.

Okami (N/A) - I actually got fairly far into this game as a teen, I wanna say 1/3rd or so through, but my PS2 broke down before I could ever finish it. I do plan to come back to it, and I even have Okami HD on Switch to do so, but I have yet to get to it + that was long before HLTB anyway.

Hades (10/10) - Oh man this thing is SO GOOD, the dialogue is crisp witty and snappy, the action combat is frantic and pretty varied, I love the way the narrative unlocking rolls. Visually impressive and overall a huge step up from Transistor. I plan to go through it and unlock the True Ending at some point, but for now I've "merely" put 36 hours into it.

Celeste (N/A) - I played like 6 screens and intend to return.

Hyper Light Drifter (N/A) - I actually played a good chunk of this, completed half of the dungeons, but as nice as it is visually and as much as I can feel the passion I have to admit I wasn't vibing with the gameplay. The dash felt bizarrely "laggy", especially at the end of use, and I have to say the puzzles were occassionally more frustrating than interesting. I do think it was good enough that I plan to go back and see it through to the end, but I don't anticipate it being one of my higher rated GOTMs.

Ori and the Blind Forest (N/A) - Got an hour or so in, intend to finish it but I just haven't quite gotten back to it vs. other options.

GRIS (8/10) - Really sits on that 7-8 star cusp, I think the game REALLY gets going towards the end with the mechanics like I love the swimming / jumping mechanics and gravity stuff, but the first half of the game is REALLY carried by the story without much of any interesting gameplay. Goddamn beautiful looking game that helps elevate it and the story is good.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (N/A) - Light World's done, but I've been Bad at exploring the Dark World and was legit stuck on how to get into the first Dark World dungeon for a while lmao. I think I'll get to this one rather soon, since while it definitely isn't feeling like a Zelda favorite it feels like a fun one to complete a bit casually.

Super Mario Galaxy (N/A) - I wasn't super far into this, I did get three and a half hours into it. It was actually a blast but I just haven't had as many chances as I want to play it because I only like playing it on the TV due to motion controls and also the lives system / how it works is a bit of a pain for short play sessions.

Super Metroid (10/10) - One of the best GOTM games I actually played while Game of the Month was going on. Holds up basically perfectly, a game where you can look at it as a blueprint for how to make an organic game world that doesn't need fast travel to traverse. It remains graphically impressive, I love the way your arsenal builds up over time, the story does so much without dialogue with the last area in particular feeling like a 90s version of like a modern "story game" in how it is presented. The only real issues I found were it felt like it was one button too large for the SNES and other very minor stuff. I'd recommend this to anyone.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (N/A) - Got two hours into the game, was enjoying it but the month was pretty busy, will definitely return to it.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (10/10) - I never beat this one as a kid, but I got quite far into it and I really obsessed over it. One of the most atmospheric games I've ever played, so many cool little details in this bad boy. I never had Ocarina of Time as a kid, so I really want to play OoT to compare. One of the ones I most want to play again and finish one day, along with Metroid Prime and Wind Waker.

Metroid Prime (8/10) - Never beat this, but I got a decent chunk of the way in as a kid. There's a point in the game where you need to do a long run without saving and get ganked by two enemies at the end, I died and lost like 1-2 hours and at the time put it down to wait for another day. In the end, a bunch of real life circumstances later forced me away from being in position to finish it for years, but god damn do I want to! I started a new file for the GOTM, but I also ended up with too many obligations to be able to do that. If anything, I think my rating might go up in the modern day.

Super Mario World (7/10) - I dunno, it was good, but something about it felt like it didn't go as hard for me as other 2D Marios. The world doesn't feel as varied as Super Mario Bros. 3, which still held a lot of consistency, and it doesn't feel as good to control in my opinion. Mario's just a little slippery, a little too easy to fall off of blocks, and at the same time I feel like its sequel Yoshi's Island most actively expanded on the Mario formula and did the more "puzzle" aspects well. That's not to say that Super Mario World has nothing going for it, the large number of secrets for example is a plus (even if SMB3's map is much more fun to me) and the actual level design is usually high end, but it didn't meet the reputation it has for me.

Banjo-Kazooie (N/A) - I'm actually rather far into Banjo, over six hours so, and playing it with a friend which is the main reason it isn't done yet. It's definitely good, although I can't say it has been blowing me away or anything: I'm definitely more of a "Super Mario 64 is better" kinda guy and I honestly might prefer Donkey Kong 64. The controls, I think, sometimes are a bit much for the Nintendo 64 controller, this isn't usually an issue but sometimes it crops up. It seriously sometimes has some "needle in a haystack" issues compared to other Collect-a-thons though (DK64 obviously has this too, but DK64 felt much more expansive and more varied) and also jesus christ the swimming SUCKS in this game. My god, that might be the main reason I am not vibing with it as much as DK64/SM64 because the water level blew so far. I don't feel qualified to give full thoughts until I finish, but it might end up more of just a 7/10 Good.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (8/10) - Similar to Majora's Mask in that I played this as a kid, but I was AWFUL at Zelda games as a kid, I think I only got like 1/3rd of the way through. Could definitely go up when I finish it. When I was a kid the big pirahna fish spooked me.

Live A Live (N/A) - Quite far into this one, actually! I've finished four of the stories, and the main reason this hasn't been finished is that Octopath Traveler II arriving was an instant play through for me that went for 99 hours! This and Fire Emblem Engage I expect to be my two next "big" finishes, with probably some guest appearances from hour long platformers or the like. Probably trending towards an 8/10 or so.

Castlevania (5/10) - Art direction is amazing, especially for an NES game. Top notch music. Good core ideas. Not so fun to play: The game doesn't feel truly designed for the ol' Belmont jump here, which leads to points which feel cheap more due to controls rather than true challenge and I dislike how heavily varied the challenge can be in a way that makes it feel more cheap than anything. Case in point, Death can either be the most ridiculous boss in the game, or you bring Holy Water the whole way and he is a joke who is stunlocked to death. Holy Water feels like almost the only way to get through the infamous Medusa Head / knights room as well, which crashed on me MULTIPLE times from sprite overload due to how many Holy Waters I was chucking. It was worth checking out, but I can't say it is one of my higher end NES games.

So that's only 7 GOTM finished, which is pretty pathetic even if it will go up soon. I do at least have a healthy amount played! 23 played is totally fine with me, and some of them like Live A Live or Banjo-Kazooie being quite far in. I'll definitely be amping this up with time, since a lot of these are games I have a ton of interest in.

I might only have 7 GOTM games, but I may as well order how I liked them: Super Metroid > Hades > The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild > GRIS > Super Mario World Castlevania > Transistor.

And finally, how about the ones I haven't gotten to yet? Here's a list of all the game of the months I own, but have yet to play. Ones I have particular interest in are in bold!

Taking a leaf out of FrozenRoy's book and listing the games I still have backlogged. Most of them I have started at one point or another but need to get back to them.

Cthulhu Saves the World - partly played, might go back, but not super invested
Okami - partly played 2 or 3 times and need to go back to it! Such a pretty game
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap - Currently playing and really enjoying!
Hollow Knight - another I really need to get back to; didn't mean to stop
Night in the Woods - backlogged but uncertain, something offputting but not sure. Maybe need to wait for just the right mood and time
Hades - partly played and one day maybe? As well-crafted as it is I just can't stick to roguelikes
Ni no Kuni - partly played and was having trouble sticking to it, but would like to try again sometime
Ori and the Blind Forest - Only played a bit but it's waiting. Gorgeous looking game
Wargroove - when I finally feel into tactics games again this is waiting
The Messenger - another I started and stopped by accident and need to get back to
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - my cursed game to reference another thread here
Persona 5 Royal - just waiting to take the plunge into that time sink and looking forward to it!

There are a few games in the list as well that I do have or have access to but haven't bothered adding to my backlog:
Crypt of the Necrodancer - it was fun, but again roguelikes
The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Ages - I did watch a friend play through it and I think that's enough for me now
Super Mario Galaxy - Have the game; don't have a Wii or a Wii U anymore and it was a game I just fell out of after a little while anyway. I'm not good at sticking with single player Mario (except Odyssey)
Final Fantasy VII - I've tried a couple times but it just doesn't grab me and it kind of feels over-saturated by this point and like I know too much
Mega Man 2 - I don't have the legacy collection, but I do have that. Mega Man can be fun to dip into, but actually finishing is a whole other matter for me, especially the old ones.

And lastly there's a few games I don't have but have some interest in:
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - as the other parent of the Metroidvania genre I feel like I need to at least try it. Also that soundtrack
Child of Light - Has floated in and out of my radar for ages. It often goes on sale so probably grab it one day
Thimbleweed Park - Feed the adventure game log

Since others have done it, I'll also list the GotM games I have in the backlog, have retired or am currently playing.

Playing:
Persona 5 Royal - I also mentioned this in the previous post. Based on my calculations it's at least going to take another month until I finish it, however, so far I've had a blast with the game.

Backlogged:
The Legend of Zelda: BotW - I own the game but haven't played it yet. Will at some point, at least before I head off to college.
Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past - I have the game on NSO and I have it backlogged because it is one of the few NSO games I have some interest in playing. Probably play it when I feel like it.
Disco Elysium - Once again I own the game but haven't played it. (That's what most of these backlogged games are.) I'm very interested in it as it's a large narrative-focused game but I've got my hands full with Persona 5 so it'll probably be a while until I play it.
Little Nightmares - The only reason I have it on my backlog is that I got it for free on Steam so this'll probably be one of the last games I play on the list.
Bioshock 2 - Same goes for this game.
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages - Out of the two Oracle games this one seems more interesting although I will play seasons first due to the recommended play order.
Super Metroid - Same deal as Link to the Past.
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch - First game on the backlog that I've actually played. I played it for around 20 hours and got a good chunk into the game but I took a break and when I tried to come back I had completely forgotten how everything worked. I have no idea when I'll return to it.
Hades - This is one of the top games on the backlog that I want to try out, but of course, I don't have any time frame on when I will.
Bioshock - Same as Bioshock 2.
Legend of Zelda: OT - I've played the 3DS port as I heard it was good, but I fell off it because the game still felt very archaic, outdated and Cryptic in many ways despite some of the improvements made in the 3DS version.
999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors - I have it as part of the Nonary Games collection. I'm a big fan of other similar-ish visual novels, so I'll definitely try it out sometime.

Retired:
None

Interested in but don't own:
Tunic - Seems like a better modern take on the original Legend of Zelda format. I have it on my Steam wishlist and I'll buy it at some point when there is a good sale.
Banjo Kazooie - One of the few games on the NSO expansion pack that I might play. I don't have the expansion pack because it is still way overpriced, so it goes here.

Conclusion:
Now for all of the juicy stats. I have completed 9 GotM games (2 during their respective months), playing 1, 12 in the backlog, 0 retired, and 2 that I'm interested in. Excluding the games I'm interested in, the total count for GotM games that I own is 22, which is quite a lot lower than other people.

Because of Game of the Month I played Majora’s Mask a lot sooner than I had intended. Hamtaro is also on the backlog because of it while I played a different Hamtaro game. I can take a while to finish games due to time but when I participated it pushed me into finishing it in at least a month.

Spoiler alert: I am not finishing Breath of the Wild in a month.

Now we have reached the end and so finally we can hit up the most important ranking...my personal ranking. From the list of games I have played 80 of them with 56 of them due to GotM itself. I also have 22 of them are in my backlog.

It has taken me for all the recorded times (7 have no times recorded) I have 1824 hours and 1 minute (or 76 days and 1 minute) to complete these games with an Average of 24 Hours and 59 minutes with a median of 15 hours and 53 minutes.

I will Underline any which I played due to GotM. Average score I gave was 7.7 and the Median was 8. So without further adieu here is my personal ranking:

Ranking
80 – Observer – Observer starts off as an interesting premise into a cyperpunk world as a detective but slowly devolves into a series of annoying flahsy images with an annoying unkillable monster chasing in certain sections which makes you quickly lose interest in whatever it was trying to lead to.
79 – Prince of Persia 2008 – Too much filler in the game and a lot of backtracking doing the same route each time
78 – Beneath a Steel Sky – I’m not easily impressed by point n clicks and I find a lot of there obscure logic annoying and unfortunately BaSS is filled with it so I wasn’t very happy with the game
77 – Thimbleweed Park – Another point n’ click. It more modern and has a lot more assists and didn’t feel as bad with the moon logic as BaSS but the ending tries to go meta and it ruins the whole game ultimately
76 – Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee – A puzzle game that's not aged well. It is far too unforgiving for it’s our worth
75 – Minesweeper – Everyone's played this game. It’s simple but based a bit on RNG and luck
74 – Doom 3 – A rather generic FPS shooter which just misses the mark for a Doom game
73 – The Evil Within – A horror game confused about what it wants to be and throws you multiple times into different scenarios without rime or reason
72 – LEGO The Lord of the Rings: The Video Game – Simple little game and the same game as any other LEGO game. I didn’t like the use of the movie voice overs it just feels out of place for the silly nature of the game
71 – Stories: The Path of Destinies – Interesting concept of using a repeating scenario to find the truth but it quickly becomes repetitive
70 – Borderlands – Borderlands really didn’t know what it wanted to be and mixed itself with poorly with humour and a bleak setting. The gameplay loop though worked a treat and was a good framework for later games
69 – Bit. Trip Beat – Basically pong synced up to music. It’s not bad but far from interesting
68 – Bit. Trip Runner – A runner game through a set of designed levels. Basic standard for Bit. Trip series not bad but not interesting
67 – Bit. Trip Presents Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien – An improved version of Runner but same deal
66- Celeste – This is probably my most polarised GotM game. The story was great and I can see the skill and knowledge used to create this game but I got frustrated by the difficult platforming and RNG elements
65 – Deadly Premonition – A pretty bad game which fun to play through due to it’s bizarre characters and eccentricity
64 – Resident Evil 4 – Enjoyed parts of this game but the island and the tank controls soured my views of the game
63 – Child of Light – A short concise little RPG but lacks depth
62 – Little Nightmares – A rather dark and sinister stealth platformer which relies a bit too much on trial and error for it’s own good
61 – Unreal Gold – Decent enough FPS which encourages constant movement but lack enemy variety
60 – Binary Domain – A fun but unoriginal cover shooter with some interesting topics discussed in the story
59 – Darksiders – A pretty decently made Zelda like hack n slasher but doesn’t offer anything new
58 – Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch – A beautifully drawn and interesting world created but familiars are unbalanced and relies too much on grinding for the end game
57 – Doki Doki Literature Club – Fantastic dating dim parody but feels padded at times. It also lacks much interaction
56 – Super Metroid – Great game for exploration and great interlocking map held down by clunky control and some obnoxious routes to finish the game
55 – Soma – A bleak and sombering story that delves into what it means to be a human. The monsters though ended up being more of nuisance then an integral part of the game
54 – The Witcher – A rather complex RPG to play but start of a rather good RPG franchise
53 – Resident Evil – A classic with some great puzzles and an interlocking map but still has wonky controls for nowadays
52 – Bioshock 2 – A semi decent Shooter which doesn’t match up to it’s predecessor excluding the excellent minerva’s den DLC
51 – A Plague Tale: Innocence – A decent enough linear stealth game with some well written characters but a poor story and weak bosses
50 – Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance – An over the top hack n slash games which plays with it’s setting well but has some hard to master and hard to learn controls
49 – Hyper Light Drifter – A great and challenging isometric action game but it’s lack of dialogue loses context of your objectives
48 – Borderlands 2 – Borderlands 2 is a fun and enjoyable looter FPS but it’s gameplay isn’t spectacular and the humor can be very take it or leave it.
47 – Oxenfree – slow start but an enjoyable short and concise little story
46 – Dead Space – A really enjoyable FPS survival game with an excellent cutting off limbs system with great monster design. Repetition of quest design does hurt the game though
45 – Journey – A beautifully told story using only visuals and landmarking it if extremly short though
44 – The Secret of Monkey Island – A extremely well written point n click which writing got me over my averse to a lot of point n click logic
43 – Rayman Legends – A fun platformer with some excellent music levels I do wish they had more of them though
42 – The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past – An excellent design top down dungeon crawler which is an instant classic. I only wish that you didn’t have to repeat a whole dungeon to beat a boss
41 – Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice – A excellent dive into the mental illness that the main character is facing and builds on top of this to deal with how she can move forward. Combat though is repetitive and there are large section where nothing happens
40 – Alan Wake – A great thriller game that utilizes light as an effective weapon against the enemies. Filled with filler and predictable AI though
39 – Yakuza Kiwami – A fantastic built and deeply filled open world which starts slow but quickly builds into an excellent melodrama
38 – Alien: Isolation – Makes the whole alien enemy increasing terrifying especially with how smart it is however game overstays it’s welcome
37 – Dragon Age Origins – A great CRPG with some excellent writing
36 – Doom (2016) – Excellent update to the Doom franchise that brings the original rampage style of shooting to the modern era. It’s poor pacing issues and redundant weapons are the only things that really hamper the gameplay
35 – Transistor – An excellent mix and real time and turn based action which rewards experimentation and does it behind an addictive soundtrack. The biggest issue is the downtime waiting between moves can make the game tedious
34 – God of War – An excellent hack n slash game with a great Greek tragedy story wrapped around it.
33 – Bioshock – A great FPS RPG with a great critique of libertarianism and a shocking twist two thirds through it. The death functionality is a bit too forgiving.
32 – DOOM II: Hell On Earth – An excellent sequel to the original DOOM game however the level design doesn’t feel as tight as the original and it relies a bit too much on platforming for a game without a jump
31 – Earthbound – A fun and quirky RPG with some weird and fun characters and enemies however there a lot of functionality in the game that should’ve been streamlined
30 – Fallout – A classic RPG with some great world building and interesting plots but some outdated AI and gameplay design
29 – A Short Hike – A lovely little short game which knows what it is and doesn’t get bogged by unnecessary filler
28 – Super Mario World – An excellent 2D platformer with some extremely well designed levels with enough variety to keep the game interesting. Just some outdated design holding it back
27 – Super Mario Galaxy – A fantastic platformer that moved the genre on when it first came out with it’s mix of unique levels and twists on existing tropes. The motion controls are annoying and gimmicky though
26 – The Outer World - The outer worlds is a fantastic RPG which immediately bring you into it’s world with it’s highly likeable characters, fantastic story and excellent critique of the faults of capitalism let down only by a lack of variety in enemies and weaponry
25 – Night in the Woods - Night in the Woods is a great story about deeply flawed characters trying to deal with life in a small dying town where they spend there days either doing nothing or a service job in town
24 – Tales from the borderlands – The best written of the borderlands series It actually has a lot of excellent humour and some well written characters for a change. It is a telltale game though so missing a lot of the gameplay of the other borderlands games
23 – Bayonetta – An excellent hack n slash game with a convoluted and over the top story
22 – Bayonetta 2 - Bayonnetta 2 is an excellent game built on an extremely well built hack n slash system which rewards the player for playing cleverly while not punishing those who hack and slash there way through the game. The story could be better but it does not reflect badly on the game.
21 – Hitman(2016) – Fantastic open level stealth game which utilizes it’s environment and disguises to a great consent although stealth outside of disguises felt lacking
20 – Horizon Zero Dawn - Horizon Zero Dawn is a fantastically well built and beautiful world with great world and great set up for the game. The story is relatively dark and quiet interesting to follow although some of the characters are a bit one note.
19 – Prey (2017) - Prey is a fantastic exploration first person shooter with some excellent enemies which hide within the environment so easily. It’s only main faults are that it is too easy to become overpowered and has a bit too much backtracking.
18 – The Messenger - The messenger is an excellent executed platformer with great fluid controls which expertly seems together 8-bit age and 16-bit age games together into one with a story filled with humour and a great challenge. It’s biggest weakness though is that in the second half it becomes a pseudo-metroidvania which just forced too much backtracking in the game that it slightly hampered the overall experience of the game
17 – Spiritfarer - Spiritfarer is a beautiful and serene game about accepting death by empathising with the characters going through and really humanising a lot of the characters especially the more antagonistic characters. The game does end up petting out in the end though
16 – Pyre – An excellent mix of text based adventure and a unique sports game with some intriguing characters and great world surrounding the game.
15 – Doom (1993) – The game that popularised the FPS genre a great and fast paced shooter which everything its capable of at you.
14 – Beyond Good and Evil – A fantastically built open world game with so much intrigue in the game and utilizing the journalistic skills of the main character to great extent. Final boss was a pain to deal with though
13 – Shadow of the Colossus – A truly unique game with great huge bosses to fight and the use of climbing and these monstrous beasts makes for an excellent series of puzzle platforming
12 – The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - The legend of Zelda ocarina of time is the first 3d legend of Zelda game and it successfully brings the format to the 3d plane. While it has a few stumbling blocks and held back by limitations of the time, the game ultimately succeeds in creating a classic and fantastic experience.
11 – Elden Ring – Brings the Dark Souls series to the open world and does it with great results. The biggest issue I had was too many repeating main line bosses and certain bosses didn’t feel balance well
10- Okami – A beautifully done zelda esque game drawn and based on ancient Japan. The only real issue that it has a perfect end point about two thirds in but still keeps going
9 – Ori and the Blind Forest - Ori and the blind forest is a great little metroidvania game that rewards exploration within it’s beautifully designed world and offers up a lot of secrets and rewards between areas so it becomes worth taking the along route to your destination. Only a few minor issues hold this game back (unskippable cutscenes and sporadic auto saving) but this doesn’t make this game any less of a masterpiece.
8 – Final Fantasy VII – A classic and important RPG with some instant classic characters, a strong story and big epic moments that keep you hooked throughout
7 – Hollow Knight - Hollow knight is a beautiful and brillantly built metroidvania with a lot of things to do and a large variety of bosses and backstory to found spread around the worlds with many different ways to get to and from areas which quickly wrap around itself. The game has great gameplay with ever increasing difficulty with certain bosses have an optional repeat power up challenge where they are at there peak and attack with much more sharpness then there base level.
6 – Hades - Hades is a fantastic roguelite game where it is constantly rewarding you for either failed runs or successful runs and keeps you coming back with it’s great mixture of powers, weapons and trinkets which reward you for trying and using multiple different builds to beat the game. If there wasn’t enough the game is very much character driven and the stories each character has paints a picture of the world you live in and gives out more details throughout each run.
5 – The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker – My first zelda game and bright and colourful game which is not afraid to be silly and offers a real fun location and sailing mechanics
4 – Deus Ex – A fanstastic FPS RPG which allows you to create a character with the strengths and weakness of your choice and in a over the top and compelling world of espionage and conspiracy
3 – Persona 5 Royal - Persona 5 is a fantastic RPG which invigorates it’s turn based style with the ability to hit enemies with weaknesses and the ability to stand off and negotiate with the enemy. With the possibility of taking there power, money or items with the right negotiating skills. It gives a lot more willingness to experiment and gives a lot of depth to it’s gameplay. It is also helped along by the slice of life elements which are merged extremely well into the game and allows for depth to added to each of the characters which the player can interact with. It does this all with a huge sense of style with the UI popping out in very imaginative ways and a cool sense of jazz running the background.
2 – The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Breath of the wild is a prime example of how to do an open world. It does not hold you hand but instead wants and expects you to explore the world to find ways to power up and find unique features in the world. It is fully open and truly rewards creativity. It is how I feel open world games should be going forward
1 – Disco Elysium – Perhaps my favourite game of all time. Disco Elysium is a fantastically written CRPG with an excellent set of characters and brilliant use of amnesia to build a character to your fancy. The world is brilliantly written and filled with a great variety of characters with complex thoughts and there own personal agendas. The plot slowly unfolds get more and more complex as domino effect takes place where it ultimately peters out in the end but still never the less is a great romp and does not take away from the experience.

Thanks, knalb, for this thread and all the work you put into it! The rankings were really interesting and a great appreciation for all GOTM winners so far. Thanks 👍

I'm also impressed by how many GOTM games you played and shocked and outraged by how high up there you ranked Celeste and Deadly Premonition. ;)

I really enjoyed Celeste, probably the first hard game I ever managed to beat and the story and atmosphere are just great in my opinion. Deadly Premonition I didn't even played myself but I watched a whole Let's Play and that game is just so weird and awesome. But I agree with you on other games so I'll try to overcome the shock. ;)

I found Celeste to be too frustrating for my liking that's why I kept it low. It's likely due to not liking precision challenges and that is basically what celeste is. I can see why some people enjoy Celeste but it wasn't for me

Deadly Premonition is basically a so bad it's good game and while the weird and cooky stuff shined through the other issues in the game held it back especially it's performance issues
